Wallflower

“Lasagna, nice,” I muttered and half heartedly poked at my lunch before taking a bite and sighing contently. I need coffee.

Lasagna was a gift from God in my opinion. Whenever I got lonely, Fuchsia would always make me some and the two of us would share while watching cartoons. Before she got sick of course. I did most of the cooking after that.

“Wallflower?” A light green girl asked and j glanced at her. “Wallflower Blush, right?”

“Mhm.”

I gestured for her to sit. I’m guessing this was Sophisticata, based on Lavenders description of her this morning.

“So,” Sophisticata brushed some hair behind her ear. “Proper introduction, my name is Sophisticata. I’m in charge of the student council and stuff. You are?”

I never really understood why people did this. I mean, she already knew my name. I had a feeling everyone did at this point. And that genuinely scares me. I’ve spent so long in the background that being in the spotlight makes me well, uncomfortable.

“I’m Wallflower Blush,” I answered softly and Sophisticata gave me a warm smile. “I uh run the gardening club. I’m one of the only members but Derpy might be joining.”

“Derpy is a very kind and gentle lovable girl. She’s very nice,” Sophisticata commented smoothly and rested her hands on top of each other. “It’s a pleasure to meet you properly. I’d love to see your garden one day.”

I blinked at her a few times. Her smile did seem surprisingly genuine. I was getting shockingly good at telling a real smile from a fake one recently.

“Okay,” I nodded quickly. “Uhm, we can do that. What now?”

“We can have lunch together, if you’d like. I just wanted to properly meet you and extend a invitation to join us on the council. All club leaders are there to represent their club,” Sophisticata explained as she took a sip of her water. “It’s also a way to get more members like how you got Derpy.”

I took another bit of my lasagna and chewed on my lip nervously. I never even imagined I’d get one person in my club. To think of the possibility I’d have more than just me is mind-blowing and a bit exciting to be honest.

“I’ll join,” I answered softly and Sophisticata beamed at me before she slid a paper over to me. “Uhm what’s this?”

“Sign up sheet,” Sophisticata explained and tapped under some lines on the paper. “All I need is you to sign your name, the name of your club and I’ll be able to post these sign up sheets around the school for you.”

“Oh, okay,” I muttered and started writing with my free hand as I kept eating.

“Ambidextrous?” Sophisticata inquired and I nodded. “Fascinating, not many people are. It’s pretty rare.”

I gave a brief nod in response before sliding the paper to her along with her pen she had provided me too.

“Thank you. I’m gonna be heading back to my own lunch now. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance,” Sophisticata bowed her head slightly at me. “I’ve already heard rumors from Roseluck and her two sisters they are interested in joining. We meet after school every Friday at four.”

Sophisticata stood up to leave, gathering her stuff and I cleared my throat nervously.

“Actually, would you stay with me?” I asked and she glanced at me with a raised eyebrow. “I’m not really good at talking to new people. You must think I’m weird or annoying or-”

“I’d love to eat lunch with you,” Sophisticata patted my hand with a smile and sat back down. “Let me text my boyfriend to bring my lunch here and I’ll stay. We can talk about whatever interests you. For the record, I don’t think you are weird or annoying or whatever else you were going to say. You seem to be a very nice girl, just shy and that’s okay. I’d be happy to be your friend if you wish.”

I examined her briefly before nodding with a small smile.

“Let me give you my phone number and you can give me yours,” Sophisticata suggested as she pulled her phone from her purse and I slowly mimicked her gesture. Except mine came from my pocket, of course. I don’t really do the purse thing. Just extra weight to carry around. “You don’t have to talk at the council meetings unless you truly want to. Lavender Lace is always there since she, Trixie and Fuchsia all co run the gaming club. Which is surprisingly successful, to be honest.”

“They love their video games. Especially Fuchsia,” I agreed and sipped my water as a guy I assumed was her boyfriend set down a lunch tray with a salad on it and she kissed his cheek. Public affection like that always made me uncomfortable. I never know what to say or if I should watch or what.

“Indigo Wreath, this is my friend Wallflower Blush. Wallflower, this is my boyfriend Indigo,” Sophisticata introduced us and I awkwardly shook his hand as Indigo gave me a small smile.

“Nice to meet you,” he squeezed my hand as we shook for a few seconds longer and let go. “Have a good day, you two. See you after school?”

“Mhm,” Sophisticata hummed and watched him walk away before turning to me. “I’m sorry, that was probably pretty awkward for you.”

“A little but it’s okay. You two seem well together,” I answered honestly and she shrugged with a blush. “How long has that been going on?”

“About a week and a half, if that,” Sophisticata waved a hand around and shrugged again. “It’s been a great week and a half so far. What about you, you got someone important in your life?”

“I got a lot of important people. I got Sunset, Cloudkicker, Lavender, Diamond Tiara, Raindrops, Carrot Top, Trixie, my sister, Alula, Twilight and uh that’s it,” I answered before hastily adding. “And you, of course. Oh and Derpy. Can’t forget Derpy.”

“I meant romantically,” Sophisticata clarified and I turned pink.

“No. I’m too ugly and awkward for dating. I’m happy with my friends,” I muttered and she gave me a flat, unimpressed look that made me nervous.

“Wallflower, you’re far from ugly or awkward. I can guarantee someone out there will like you for just being you,” Sophisticata placed a hand on my shoulder and I tensed. “Has anyone ever told you that you were ugly?”

I hesitated before giving a brief nod.

“Nobody you know. It’s whatever,” I sighed and Sophisticata frowned slightly. “My relationship my dad is awkward to say the least.”

“All due respect, screw what he says. I personally think you are a very beautiful girl with a bright future, Wallflower. Don’t care what others say, be your own person,” Sophisticata squeezed my hand.

“If only it was that easy.”

“It isn’t but you have good friends and a great sister. I’m honest when I say you have a future,” Sophisticata answered and frowned. “Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you don’t, you got me?”

I gave a shy nod as she hugged me and I tensed up slightly before relaxing and hugging her back.

This might not be so bad after all.
