Sparky sighed to himself as he walked down main street. He was heading to Maretime Bay's Card Shop; a shop that had opened last year. It had gotten popular with many ponies, mostly the kids and teens, some adults to. Normally, he would avoid the shop. Not because he didn't like the place. It was always so crowded. Yes, the shop was known for being crowded and for holding special events. As he turned a corner, he could already see a crowd forming at the store.

He sighed. “Great.” He grumbled to himself. “Why did I let myself get talked into this?”

Yesterday after Sparky had gotten home from school. His father had a small talk with him. He hadn't done anything bad, all his grades were good and he was staying out of trouble. Thankfully, he wasn't in any form of trouble. But, his father was concerned about his social life. To say Sparky was a little bit of a loner would be an understatement. He typically avoided other ponies his age. In fact he tried his best to avoid most other kids his age. He would just go to school, come home, do his homework and chores and then go to bed. His father wasn't worried about it at first. That was until he got a phone call from the school.

Sparky asked himself. “Why did you sign me up for this club, dad?”

His father had signed him up for an after school club. The clubs name was “Kaijudo: Future Pro's Of Equestria.”. A club that featured one thing, Dueling. Sparky knew about Kaijudo but he had no clue how to play the game. All he knew about the game was that it was very popular. But, that was it. That was all he knew about the game. He knew nothing else about it. And, now, here he was walking to the card shop just to purchase cards to hopefully put together a deck. As he stepped closer to the line of ponies; he felt himself growing more nervous. He was always cautious when he was in crowds. He had heard and seen too many reports of missing foals.

The card shop was crowded with ponies. Some were talking with their friends. Others were browsing the stores shelves. There were even some playing games on tables that were set up in the shop. Sparky looked around amazed by the atmosphere of the shop. There was some lively music being played and the way the shop was decorated, it was almost inviting. He stepped further into the building; he had to find where they kept the Kaijudo cards. Once there he could find out how much they were. He had saved up his allowance and he worked some small jobs here and there on a few of his weekends. It allowed him to save up quite a few bits. Eventually, he found the area where the cards were kept.

He commented.”Wow.”

There were a lot of card packs for the game. Some of the packs had fire for their artwork; while others had water, earth, what looked like a machine, and some kind of strange creature was on some of the packs. He looked at each one; wondering which pack he should buy. That was until his eyes saw a strange looking pack. He focused on it, it was something called a “Starter deck”.

He wondered. “Starter deck?” He asked himself. “Does that mean this deck was made for beginners?”

The card shop owner waved goodby to a group of ponies as they made their way out. Another sale, another good day. His ears perked up when he heard someone say. “Whoa, Twenty-Five bits!” He looked over where the voice had come from. He saw the sheriffs son standing in front of the Kaijudo cards. He must have just saw the price of one of the decks. He chuckled a little; even he agreed the decks were a little overpriced.

He waved at the dragon. “Hey, you.” Sparky looked around and eventually the little drake looked at him. He motioned for him to come over. “Come here.”

Sparky looked around nervously; why was he being called up to the counter? Did he do something wrong? He stood in front of the counter and looked up at the pony behind it.

The shop owner asked. “Thinking on playing Kaijudo?”

Sparky breathed the sigh of relief; he thought he was in trouble. He nodded and answered. “Yes.” He asked him. “Are those the only cards you have?” He pointed at the section where the cards were.

The shop owner nodded. “Yep.” He added. “Those are the only ones we got until the next shipment comes.” He informed him. “But, I do have some special packets up here.”

Sparky asked him. “Where?” He looked inside the case; he saw some cards packs. But, none of them were for the card game.

The shop owner then motioned a hoof to a small station he had set up. The station was one of those luck wheel games. Sparky had seen one during Maretime Bay Day last year. You spin a wheel that had a random number of balls inside. All the balls were the same except for one of them. If the different colored ball falls out, you win. But, this game also had a strange tower beside it. The tower had two tube; one was red the other was blue.

Sparky walked up to the station and asked. “What's this?”

The shop owner answered. “This my friend is a little game I set up here in the shop. For two bits you can spin the wheel. If you get the golden ball, you can drop it through one of the two tubes on the tower. If the ball falls all the way down the tube; you win ten packs of a limited run Kaijudo theme.”

Sparky questioned. “Huh?”

The shop owner chuckled and reached behind the counter. He then pulled out a strange booster box; filled with ten booster packs. Sparky was amazed by the artwork on them; they had black images of nine creatures on them. He wondered what these packs were.

He looked at the pony and asked. “What are those?”

The shop owner answered. “These packs were the only ones made when Kaijudo first started.” He smiled and admitted. “I was lucky to be the only shop to actually get them. Since their rare; I decided to give them to whoever wins this game. Since I was lucky enough to be the only one to get them. I believe only one who is lucky enough to win this game should get them. “He smiled and asked the little dragon. “You wanna test your luck?”

Sparky had to think about it for a moment. For two bits he could take a chance and win all those packs. But, all he had was Twenty-six bits, if he played the game he wouldn't have enough to get the deck. Plus, all the booster pack were five bits each and each pack contained only five cards. He needed forty to make a complete deck. He thought about it for awhile; until he sighed and handed the shop owner two bits.

The shop owner told him. “Best of luck.”

Sparky nodded and reached for the handle of the wheel. The moment his claws wrapped around the handle; he began to crank the wheel hard. He spun the wheel fast; the balls inside rattled loudly. After he finished turning the handle the wheel slowly stopped turning. When the wheel stopped he watched eagerly to see what ball would fall out. It was the golden ball! Sparky could feel his heart beating rapidly. He was halfway through the game; but now he had to choose which tube to let the ball slide down. He looked at the tubes and pondered which one to choose. He had a fifty-fifty chance. But, this chance was a little too risky. He gulped a lump down and grabbed the ball. He slowly lifted it up to the top of the red tube. For a moment he hesitated to let the ball fall down the tube. Before releasing the ball he closed his eyes and took in a deep breath. The moment he let go of the ball he let the breath out.

A moment later he heard the shop owner say. “Look's like we have a winner!”

Sparky's eyes shot open as he looked at the bottom of the tower. There it was; the golden ball resting in the bottom groove of the tower. A smile stretched itself across his face as he looked to the shop owner. The pony smiled back at him as he not only handed him the booster box but also some kind of strange crystal.

As The Shop Owner watched the little drake leave he wished him. “Good luck.”

Sparky nodded and exited the shop; he eagerly walked back home. He was ready to start building his deck. Once he had his deck built; he would be able to join the Kaijudo club. As he walked he looked at the crystal he was given. He wondered what it was?

Sparky sat at the desk in his room; he had just finished opening all ten packets. He had a total of fifty cards in front of him. Meaning he had ten extra cards. He wondered what cards to use in his deck; some looked amazing. Their art designs looked wonderful and frightful at the same time. He also wondered about the crystal; it didn't look like some of the crystals he had seen. It had no shine to it and it didn't look as pretty. He wondered why the shop owner had given it to him. He looked from the crystal to the cards again. He had separated the cards into three stacks. One was for magic cards. One was for shield cards, and the third stack was for creature cards. He reached for the stack of creature cards.

He wondered as he looked at the cards. “Did the creator of Kaijudo also know about humans?”

The cards had picture of strange humans on them. He had heard about humans from his aunt Sunny. She had a book that belonged to her father that mentioned them at one point. It even had a part where Princess Twilight Sparkle had gone to the very world. He knew about humans but he did not know what kind of humans these were.

He picked up one card and studied it. The card had a human that wore strange clothing. It carried a bat in one hand and what looked like a soda can in the other. There was also a strange cap on it's head. The cap had headphones on top of it. He looked up at the cards name.

He questioned. “Scout?”

He gasped as he saw the crystal suddenly start glowing. He sat the card down and stared at the crystal. The glow looked a little dim. He wondered what was making it glow? As he stared at the crystal; he never noticed a glow coming from the cards.

He asked. “What is going on?”

A voice replied. “That's what I would like to know.”

Sparky questioned. “Huh?” He turned and looked in the direction where the voice had come from. The voice itself sounded like it had come from in front of him. But, that was impossible he was the only one in this room.

The voice called to him. “Down here!”

Sparky slowly looked down and saw the very creature that was on the card; standing right there on top of his desk.

The creature greeted him. “Yo, whats' up?”

Sparky yelled out in shock as he fell backwards onto the floor. He groaned a little form the sudden impact on his back.

The creature laughed. “Yo, did any of you see that?” It continued laughing.

As Sparky picked himself up off the floor another voice spoke. “Still acting as childish as ever, Scout?”

Scout replied to the voice. “Got to hell, Spy.”

Sparky slowly crawled back to his feet; as he peered over the desk. He saw more creatures from the cards. Each of them were moving and walking about. He couldn't believe it. All of them were walking and talking; right there on top of his desk. One of them, The Medic, noticed him and walked up to him.

Sparky spoke in a voice filled with disbelief. “I'm dreaming.”

The medic pulled his bone saw and swiped it on one of his claws. Sparky yelled out as he pulled his claw back and shook it. The medic asked him. “Did that hurt?”

He replied. “Yes!” He asked him. “Why did you do that?”

The Medic answered. “To show you that you weren't dreaming.” He turned and walked away from the edge before adding. “Plus, I wanted to see if this saw could cut through dragon scales.”

Sparky questioned. “What?”

One of the other creatures walked up to him. It was The Sniper. It spoke to him. “Don't worry bout him, mate. That bloke has a few less shrimp on his barbie.” Before Sparky could even asked the creature asked him. “So, you're our master now?”

For a moment Sparky was silent; he could only nod slowly. One of the other creatures, the soldier, suddenly shouted. “ATTENTION MAGGOTS!”

Sparky quickly placed his claw over the soldier and shushed. “SHH!” He looked at his door with slight fear in his eyes. He sighed in relief before he spoke to The Soldier. “Keep it down. My dad is in the main lobby.”

The Pyro spoke. “Mm mam't mear mus. Mmmm mm moo.”

Sparky questioned. “What did you just say?” He felt the soldier lifting his claw.

He looked at him as the soldier said. “Pyro, said.” He grunted as threw the claw off of him and continued. “That only you can hear us, sir.”

Sparky replied. “Oh.”

The Spy pulled a cigar and lit it before saying. “Gentlemen, your attention please.” All of them looked at him; when he saw he had everyone's attention he continued. “It appears that our master.” He looked at the dragon and asked. “What was your name again?”

Sparky gasped and answered. “Sparky.” He repeated. “My name is Sparky.”

Spy nodded and continued. “Sparky, has just started playing Kaijudo.”

Scout commented. “Oh, like none of us knew.” The Heavy gave him a hard elbow to the gut. He doubled over as the air was knocked out of his lungs.

Spy cleared his throat and continued. “As I was saying, Sparky here has just started playing Kaijudo. That means he has no clue about the rules of the game or how all of us work.” He took a puff from his cigar and slowly exhaled. He thumped off the end before he finished. “That means it is up to us to teach him the game.”

Sparky could only watch in disbelief as the creatures continued talking to one another. Was all of this part of the game? Did all the cards do this? Why was he the only one who could hear them? He had so many questions. But, at the same time he was really excited. He couldn't wait to join the Kaijudo club tomorrow. Maybe he would be able to see more monsters come to life. A smile stretched across his face. Just as all his creatures turned to face him; each of them smiling happily.
