Diablo 3: Hell's Eclipse
Prelude: A New World
Load Full StoryNext ChapterIt was night in Equestria, a few hours after Celestia lowered the sun and Luna raised the moon, where Luna knew that the majority of the ponies would be asleep or getting ready for bed, while the night crowd, like her Lunar Guard, were getting up for their nightly routines. Such a thing caused her to smile as she looked out at Canterlot, as there were ponies who loved her night and even went out to enjoy themselves, just like those who enjoyed Celestia's daytime, and it warmed Luna's heart to see ponies gazing up at the stars and just having fun. She was sure that the likes of Vinyl Scratch were out there, heading to one of the party venues that were scattered throughout Canterlot, and suspected that the ponies would be having fun throughout the night, even into the early hours of the morning. The city itself was peaceful, which was a side effect of what her sister had done since her absence, despite some villains returning from their past to wreck havoc, but Celestia's method of dealing with them had worked wonders for her.
Such a thing caused Luna to sigh for a moment as she sat on her balcony, as Twilight Sparkle and some of her friends were now missing, in fact she and Celestia had been looking for them for quite some time now, and yet neither of them had found a sign of the various missing ponies.
Not only did that mean that some of Luna's personal saviors were gone, since Twilight and her close nit group of friends had been the ones responsible for saving her from the control of her darker side, Nightmare Moon, but they also happened to be the wielders of the Elements of Harmony. She had asked Celestia why they didn't just take the Elements back and use the six gems together, three each like they had done in the past, and her sister claimed that they had no connection to the gems anymore, she had tried multiple times over the years and failed every time. With just one of them missing the Elements were basically worthless, since they now required six users, and based on what Celestia had said previously four of the users were missing, meaning they had no way to use the Elements. Of course both she and her sister were more interested in saving the ponies that had simply gone missing, even though she also knew the Elements were a secondary reason, but it still annoyed her how neither of them had found a sign, like the ponies had simply vanished into thin air.
In fact the only clue they had found was a magical anomaly in the cave that the Tree of Harmony, where the Elements had been returned to, rested in, and every so often she or Celestia, or even both of them, would return to the cave and talk for a time, in an area that was safe and sound, even if part of her wanted to argue with her sister about things.
As she thought about Celestia, however, Luna noticed her sister take flight and head in the direction of the cave, which was due to the fact that tonight they were supposed to meet up and talk, maybe even discuss a new plan of attack to try and find the missing ponies. With that in mind Luna gave her sister a head start, mostly because she wanted to enjoy the fact that the ponies in Canterlot were enjoying her night, before eventually sighing as she got up and opened her wings, as this was very important for the both of them. After that she lifted herself off her balcony and departed for the cave that was in the forest that was outside Ponyville, an enchanted forest called the Everfree Forest that seemed to rebel against the rules that the rest of Equestria lived by. It was here that they built their first castle, before she grew increasingly annoyed with her sister being in the spotlight all the time and transformed herself into Nightmare Moon, resulting in her attacking Celestia and being sent to the moon for a thousand years, a castle that was now falling apart.
Part of her was still saddened when she laid eyes on her former home, as she didn't like seeing it like this, while the other part was more focused on ignoring it and the memories it held, causing her to land outside the cave and head inside, only to find her sister standing in front of the crystalline tree at the end of the passage.
"I just don't understand how ponies could disappear from this place." Celestia commented, where Luna found that her sister looked around the area that the Tree was in for a few moments, and when she did the same thing she found that there were a number of purple cracks in the air, the very ones Discord told them about, before Celestia sighed, "What are we missing? Why can't we find the missing ponies?"
"Still can't make any progress?" Luna asked, where she stepped out of the shadows and let her sister see that she was here, even though both of them agreed that this had to be where everything started, the root cause of the displacements, even if they had no idea how to use this information to track down the missing ponies.
"Yeah... I know this place is important to our search, but I haven't been able to figure out the reason why." Celestia replied, where she turned her head again and focused on some of the other cracks, even though Luna knew that not even Discord had any information on what they could be, he had no idea what these were and had no idea what they could do, "If only Twilight were here, I'm sure she would understand what we're seeing and have an explanation for us... I'm afraid that I don't understand what's going on."
"I agree, she would have all sorts of answers for us." Luna remarked, where she glanced out at the cave as well, she knew it felt different than the last few times they had been here, in fact it was like part of her was drawn to what was going on right now, before she focused on her sister as an idea came to mind, "You don't think this is a trap, do you? That Discord was lying to us so he could finally do away with us and the Elements of Harmony?"
She knew Celestia was going to say something about how they should trust Discord, since he was worried about Fluttershy, but before they could say anything there was a cracking sound as one of the cracks opened, revealing a swirling portal to who knew where. As her sister turned to face her, however, a dark mass formed in front of Luna's chest, surprising her since this wasn't her magic at work, before a dark phantom that took the shape of Nightmare Moon, in fact Luna was sure that it was her darker half as she took in the transparent look, flew out of her. It was like the specter was being fired from a cannon, the force of which sent Luna tumbling backwards, towards one of the now opened cracks in reality, meaning she was going to be sent somewhere, just like the ponies that had gone missing recently. As she opened her mouth, to call out to her sister, Luna found that Nightmare Moon slammed into Celestia's chest, sending both of them tumbling into the open vortex that had opened up behind Celestia.
Luna could do nothing as her sister and Nightmare Moon were sent to an entirely different world, while she herself fell into her own portal and rushed off for parts unknown, something that only made her wonder what in the world the future had in store for her and wherever she ended up.
Leah was bored out of her mind, which was nothing new in her dull life in New Tristram, as most days she was either helping her uncle out in his research into old tales and legends, none of them she believed in since a good majority of her uncle's stuff revolved around angels and demons, or helping around town. There wasn't much she could do in town since she had no real skill in blacksmithing, she wasn't a warrior and couldn't join the guard, she didn't have any priestly powers, and she had no abilities when it came to farming. Her only real talents were in helping her uncle with his studies, sifting through all of the ancient tomes and scrolls that he was interested in, and yet that got boring after some time because she didn't have his faith in the Horadrim, an order he claimed to be the last of. The reason they were here, in New Tristram, was because her uncle was convinced that this was where the 'Fallen Star' would land, that it would crash into some part of the town, or even the old cathedral on the outskirts of the town.
She sighed for a moment as she finished walking up the path that lead out of the town, which would head off into the woods for a time, and turned to glance back at the town that was her home, where she idly swatted at something that was near her right leg for a few seconds.
"I wish something exciting would happen in this town... it's too boring." Leah commented, as she preferred it when she and her uncle were out exploring the world, at least there was something new to see and new places to explore, because New Tristram felt like a cage at times.
For a moment nothing happened, not that she was expecting the world to respond to her wish, before she noticed that there was something in the sky, a comet or maybe just a rock that was coming in hot, she could see the fire coming from it, which was when she realized what she was seeing. In that moment her uncle's stories came to life before her eyes, it was the Fallen Star, it had to be, because it happened to be coming right towards New Tristram, just as her uncle's stories said it would, a fact that made her wonder if he was even seeing this right now. In the next moment she found that it wasn't going to crash on the cathedral, like her uncle thought it would, nor was it going to crash somewhere in the town, like some of the stories claimed, which caused her earlier excitement to die down a little. It was in that moment that she realized that the Fallen Star was heading right for her, for some reason, and Leah freaked out as she wondered what she could do to prevent the object from hitting her.
As Leah thought about that, however, the Fallen Star slammed into the ground off to her right, smashing through some trees and leaving flames in it's wake, where Leah waited for a few moments to let her heart stop beating like it was a drum, and the moment she was sure her heart was calmer she investigated the Fallen Star.
She honestly wasn't sure what she was expecting the Fallen Star to be, the tales really didn't go into great detail on that part of the story, but the form that was in the crater was definitely not something she was expecting, as it was a woman that was slightly older than her, likely twenty or twenty-one. The was attractive, not that Leah had any examples since she was used to the older ladies that lived in New Tristram, yet she had a blue coloration to her body as she noticed that the woman's body was like a human had been mixed with a pony. Her legs ended in what Leah assumed were hooves, her face had a little muzzle, she had pointed pony ears on her head, and her hair was like a mane, especially since the lady had a tail, despite the fact that her hair and tail were two different tones of blue and almost looked like the night sky from a certain angle. There was also the fact that she had what Leah assumed was a horn in the middle of her forehead, not to mention a pair of wings that were feathered and bared the same coloration as her body, and she wore what appeared to be a ragged robe, parts of which were ruined from her violent entry.
Leah's thoughts were interrupted as she heard the woman moan for a moment, causing her to step down into the crater before coming to a stop near the figure, who didn't seem injured from what she was seeing, like some sort of magic might have protected her.
"Ugh, where am I?" the woman asked, where Leah found that she had light blue eyes when she opened them, though at the same time the confused look on her face told her that the woman had no idea where she was, which made her wonder how she could be connected to the Fallen Star.
"New Tristram. Who are you?" Leah replied, because while she was confused on whether or not this woman had anything to do with the Fallen Star, as her earlier excitement over seeing it had vanished, she was curious about the newcomer that was in front of her, and maybe she could get some information out of her to share with her uncle.
"Luna, Lunar Princess of Equestria. Have you seen anyone else like me?" the woman inquired, something that caused Leah to raise an eyebrow for a moment, as she had no idea who the figure was and had no idea what she called herself a princess, since she didn't have a crown or anything.
"No, I've only seen you." Leah answered, though in that moment the woman, Luna she reminded herself, let out a sigh that seemed to be one of frustration as she rested her head against the ground once more, something that caused Leah to get up for a moment, "Wait here, I'll be back with aid."
Leah had no idea what was going on right now, nor did she understand anything that Luna had said, but something told her that things were going to be more interesting in New Tristram for the foreseeable future and it made her interested in what the coming days and weeks might have in store for them.
