Diablo 3: Hell's Eclipse
Interlude: New Tristram
Previous ChapterNext ChapterLuna had no idea how long she was out, though when she finally opened her eyes again she discovered that she was in what appeared to be a bedroom, one that was lit up by candles and had a number of books scattered around, on shelves and on a few small desks. She was resting on a bed, though it was far less than what she had used in the past, just a simple frame and what she guessed passed as a mattress, and she found that there was a fireplace nearby that was currently lit, and the roof above her looked like a second floor. Luna realized something in that moment, she was either in someone's house or in a building that was more like an inn, despite the fact that this room seemed far too much for an inn room, especially since it seemed larger than what the owner might open. She then moved her limbs and found that her body had been changed by the magic of the vortex, as her front limbs were now arms, like a minotaur, and her front hooves were hands, before quickly realizing that she looked like a hybrid between a human and a pony, the former a creature Twilight had told her about.
She then found the figure she had seen after arriving in this world, sitting at a desk with a red shirt on, brown leather pants, and had short brown hair that she had braided in one spot, and right now it seemed like she was wiping something with some sort of liquid, but what that something was she had no idea.
"You... are the one I saw earlier." Luna said, where she struggled to move her body, since it was totally different from what she was used to, while at the same time finding that the figure stopped what she was doing and turned to look at her, no doubt having assumed that she would be out for some time, "You said... we were in New Tristram, right?"
"That's correct. My name is Leah, and right now we're in my room, in the Slaughtered Calf Inn." the figure replied, though as she said that Luna knew the name of the place sort of matched what a griffin might have named their place of business, or at least a few would have done such a thing, before Leah noticed something, "You aren't familiar with your body, are you?"
"If we were talking my old form, I'd be a natural... this, not so much." Luna stated, where she tried to move her new arms, as she was using the terminology that the minotaurs and what Twilight had told her about her time on the other side of one of Starswirl's mirrors, yet it seemed hard for her to do anything, "Ugh, how did Twilight do this so easily?"
"Sounds like there's a story there. Here, let me help you out." Leah said, to which she got up and walked over to where Luna was resting, as she was on her side she finally realized, no doubt because of her wings, before the lady stopped in front of her and offered her a smile as she rested a hand on Luna's shoulder.
What Luna discovered was that Leah started to demonstrate how one moved their body and even sat by her from time to time as she showed her how to properly move her arms and legs, which Luna was still getting used to since this wasn't her natural form. Leah was a nice person, spending her valuable time teaching her things that most of the people of this world knew and learned when they were little, though as Luna figured out how to properly move her body, and learned about the mounds on her new chest, one thing became clear. That was the fact that Leah seemed bored of her life, because when she went back to her table there was a sense of boredom, like she had been doing this for a long time or just wasn't interested in whatever it was she was working on, but Luna, herself, was a person that stimulated her mind. Of course Luna didn't like being thought of like that, but at the same time it seemed to have a good effect on Leah, she was engaging with someone new and that meant she had stories to tell of a new land, a new world, and that caused her to smile.
It reminded her of Twilight, in a way, and soon Luna found that she was able to walk somewhat, so Leah handed her a robe made of cloth as they headed out through the opening, which lead out into the rest of the inn, allowing her to see a bunch of 'humans', as Leah called them.
"As I said, this is New Tristram, which was built near the ruins of the old town, and it's protected by the Militia." Leah said, all while noticing that many of the people were looking at Luna, which was fair since she was looking at them, everyone being interested in the other since this was the first time they were seeing each other, "Used to be a popular destination for both adventurers and travelers, back when people were still looting the cathedral, but once they determined that all of the good stuff was taken the town fell into decline."
Luna followed Leah outside and found that there was a central area that looked like it had a teleportation pad of some kind on it, one that wasn't in use, an area for the local blacksmith to work in, a few merchant stands that seemed to be focused on the few travelers they still had, and all of the houses looked more like depressing shacks.
"So, if you don't mind me asking, why do you live here?" Luna asked, though at the same time she had to focus on her legs as they stepped outside, as she wasn't used to the new weight she was dealing with, and Leah caught her to make sure she didn't fall face first into the dirt.
"It's not by choice, honestly. My guardian Deckard Cain, or Uncle Deckard as I call him, believes that the prophecy known as the 'End of Days' will come true in the near future, and it will start here." Leah replied, where Luna noticed that most of the people seemed unconcerned by the comment as they walked down the street a little, no doubt heading to her uncle's place, even though Luna thought it was weird that they would live in two different areas, "Supposedly a 'Fallen Star' will collide with part of New Tristram, though Uncle Deckard thinks it will happen in the old cathedral, and that the 'Evils' will rise to action once more. Honestly, I've thought of his tales and prophecies as nothing more than stories to be read and enjoyed, nothing to be taken seriously, but he thinks they're going to come true... I almost thought they were coming true as well, when I saw you falling through the air as a meteor or comet, but then determined that you couldn't be the Fallen Star. I've thought about leaving, but I can't just leave my uncle alone, not with his failing age, so I've resolved to be with him to the end of his days, and once that happens I'll think about what the future holds."
"I am not wrong, Leah. The armies of Hell are on the move." an elderly voice stated, something that was followed by Luna noticing a hunched over man that had a long white beard, scholarly robes, and a cane that likely helped him with walking, as he seemed about the age where she assumed he'd be unable to move on his own, or at least he would be soon, "The Fallen Star is the key to the prophecy, of that I have no doubt. Ah, our guest has awakened. I am Deckard Cain, last of the order known as the Horadrim."
"Luna, Princess of the Moon... or I would be, back home. Still... trying to figure out how I got here." Luna replied, taking a few seconds to shake the man's hand softly, since she didn't want to cause him any harm by being forceful, even though it was easy for her to tell that he was interested in her, like her species was an unknown in this world, "Long story short, I'm what's known as an alicorn, a being having the powers of the earth ponies, unicorns, and pegasi mixed into one body, all of their benefits with none of their weaknesses. What makes an alicorn special is, well, they're linked to a very specific thing, like how I'm the Lunar Princess, connected to raising and lowering the moon, plus I help my citizens with their nightmares... my sister, Celestia, is likewise connected to the sun."
"So... each alicorn has a specific aspect that they're connected to and draw power from?" Leah asked, because this was very interesting, even though she was sure there was a lot more to the information they were being given and that they could spend days going on and on about the world Luna came from, which would delight her uncle to no end.
As Luna opened her mouth to reply, however, the blacksmith started to move a shipment of swords and halberds that were no doubt slated to go to the Militia, though he tripped and ended up sending all of the weapons into the air, something that caused her to move before the others even reacted. Luna moved through the air, grabbing each of the weapons before they could hit the ground, where Leah and Deckard found that she landed behind the blacksmith with ease and moved each of the weapons around like she was a natural with them. Even the two handed weapons were nothing, as Leah found that Luna was able to swing them like they were nothing, as if she was used to using them despite the strangeness of her new body, a fact that made her wonder who they were actually dealing with and what sort of powers Luna actually had. She also knew that her uncle was no doubt wondering if Luna was the key to defeating the armies of the Hells, since that was his focus at the moment, but she was more interested in the figure and the stories she could offer them.
A few seconds later Luna helped the blacksmith up and returned his weapons to him, while at the same time everyone that was outside just stared at her in shock, since they clearly weren't expecting such a thing to happen in the first place, and as soon as that was done Luna returned to the pair.
"To answer your question, yes: each alicorn has an aspect they're connected to. Mine is the moon, Celestia's is the sun, Cadance's is love, and Twilight is magic itself... then there's Flurry, but she's too young to know her aspect." Luna replied, as she felt it was best to answer the question that hadn't been answered, even though she could tell that they were stunned by her show, in fact she was surprised by how well she could move with her new body, like her old instincts had come back to life in a mere matter of seconds, "Celestia is more known for being a teacher, a wise protector, and often the shield between our citizens and the dangers of the world... I'm more recognized as being the warrior, a sword if you will, a huntress in the night that seeks to protect our citizens in my own way. Cadance and Twilight are too new to things, so they're not known by other titles."
"Fascinating. Maybe you can share some tales of your home with us? Maybe while you train the Militia... it looks like they're interested in learning from you after that show." Leah commented, where Luna turned her head and noticed the people in armor that looked like they wanted to train, confirming her thoughts on the matter, though at the same time Luna let out a light chuckle as she decided that this might be a good thing.
She could learn about this world from Leah and Deckard, they seemed knowledgeable on the subject, while using training with the Militia to hone her skills with her new body so she could be ready for whatever the future held in store for them, as the Fallen Star worried her and made her wonder what the coming days might have in store for them and New Tristram.
