Fallen Star: Danger in Wortham

"We've recovered the second fragment." Luna said, handing over the cloth that held the second piece of the blade, which Deckard and the Stranger were glad to have since it meant they were one step closer to restoring the Stranger's memories and see what sort of information he had to share with them, "Any idea where the third one might have fallen?"

"As I feel, I vaguely remember seeing one glowing fragment falling towards... a fishing town, I think." the Stranger replied, though the look on his face told them that he wished he could be more helpful in figuring out everything that was going on at the moment, but Luna was fine with this since they had plenty of people that could determine what he meant.

"The closest fishing village near here is Wortham, across the river. We can talk to the ferryman." Leah stated, though while this was a stroke of good luck she also knew that the Coven was after the sword's pieces, and if one fell in Wortham than it was only a matter of time until chaos consumed everything that was around it.

Luna nodded and followed Leah as she lead the way down to the docks, where Kormac and Lyndon followed behind them, leaving Deckard to talk to the Stranger in his house some more, because now that he had another fragment of his weapon it was possible he might help him figure something out. Most of the people in the town were fine now, thanks to the downfall of the Skeleton King and the culling of the khazra, so the group was able to reach the ferry in no time, which was a simple wooden barge by the looks of it, modified to be large and carry people across the river. The ferryman was willing to take the four of them over, he knew what Luna and Leah had done for the people of New Tristram and knew that their friends were allies in whatever fight they were in, but he had a warning for them. That warning happened to be the fact that smoke was rising from Wortham, something that made them wonder if it was just the blade fragment or if the fishing village was going to be under attack by the Coven, causing everyone to get aboard without delay.

It didn't take them long to discover the terrifying truth, Wortham was ablaze, the Coven's members were summoning what appeared to be either khazra, the risen, or even demonic creatures to kill those that stood in their way, and the moment the ferry reached the now burning village the group disembarked.

"Everyone, flee to the ferry!" Leah shouted, though at the same time she noticed some Coven members and loosed one of her arrows at her target, taking down the foul individual while Luna drew her warhammer once more, leaving their allies to ready their weapons as well as they advanced on their enemies.

"Whenever we find Maghda, someone should take her head." Kormac stated, smashing his shield into some of the khazra that were following the orders of the Coven, while at the same time stabbing the cultists that charged at him, where a couple of them lost their lives thanks to Lyndon providing supporting fire, because while they had conflicting views they knew that such a thing was no reason to ignore the other on the battlefield.

"Trust me, I'm already planning on taking her life." Luna remarked, swinging the warhammer around as she smashed some of the cultists into a fine paste, though this angered her, that the cultists literally had no love for life and just slaughtered anything and everything that they desired, even going so far as to raise things into undeath to wreck more things.

They discovered that nearly everyone in the village had been slaughtered, due to the amount of corpses that happened to be on the ground, ordinary people to be exact, something that prompted them to continue fighting their way through the flames while trying to save whoever was left. The cultists, however, declared death to anyone who dared to defy the power of the Coven, confirming that they believed themselves to be above everyone else, and yet when they screamed for mercy, as a few of them actually dared to do such a thing, Luna and the others offered them none. Normally Luna might grant one such a thing, but after everything she had seen from the Coven she had placed all of their memories on the 'kill on sight' list, with their leader being at the top of the 'must kill immediately' list, since she was ordering her people to do all this. One of the survivors even spotted them at one point, mentioning how his family was taking shelter inside the chapel, but before the group could do anything the cultists killed him as well, summoning a trio of tall pale skinned warriors from Hell to do battle with them.

Of course the Coven failed to account for the fact that Luna was with the group, as she smashed her way through the trio of pale warriors and crushed them completely, while Leah and the others dealt with the rest of the cultists that were around the damaged chapel, and it wasn't long before they cleared out the area.

"I don't like how easy this has been." Leah commented, because she knew that Maghda knew of their strengths and knew all of the forces that she had sent at them would do little in the grand scheme of things, rather it had merely slowed them down a tiny bit, not enough to really accomplish anything, before she felt something in the distance, "Luna... He's out there."

"Who is this 'He'?" Lyndon asked, though at the same time he found the way to the cellar of the chapel and knew that they would be opening it once Luna was sure the coast was clear, but he had to admit that the brief mention of something, which only Leah seemed to sense, didn't calm his nerves in the slightest.

"When we were dealing with the Skeleton King, well, Leah and I found a large red demon that seemed to be a monster, and right now I'm going to hope he's somewhere else." Luna replied, because she didn't want to deal with the figure that the pair had found before they dealt with the Mad King, not when he would only slow them down and might cost them time, but as soon as the blade was reforged she was sure she would have time to fight him, "Come on, let's get the fragment."

There was a priest outside the chapel, who must have been inside the structure before their arrival, and he confirmed that the fragment they were after was in the basement of the chapel, though when he opened the way the group headed down into the basement and found that there was nothing save for an altar and a teleportation device down here.

Fools! While you were busy being heroes, I swooped in and captured all three fragments, plus the one who bore the blade in the past. Maghda stated, her magical image appearing before them once more, taunting them with the fact that she had stolen this particular fragment before the other two and only attacked Wortham to distract everyone, annoying Luna even more than before, Not that any of you will be alive to see what happens next!

In the following moments Luna summoned a magical barrier around them, just in time for the ceiling to collapse as a large butcher's cleaver tore through the material, and when the weapon was pulled back she found that the large demon was now in the village, confirming Leah's comment that he was close by.

"Fresh meat!" the demon, the Butcher as Luna decided to call him, declared as he raised his weapon and slammed it down on the barrier once more, flattening the area for a moment as they heard the sounds of the people screaming in terror in the streets, while Luna extended the barrier to cover the teleportation device.

"Kormac, Lyndon, take Leah and go back to New Tristram. Make sure the others are safe." Luna stated, where she turned for a moment and forced the demon backwards with her magic, sending the Butcher into the woods that were outside the area that Wortham was in, but she knew that he'd be back if she wasn't fast enough, "Go! I'll deal with the demon."

Leah stared at Luna for a moment, torn between helping her and going to her uncle's aid, before nodding her head as she and the others rushed to the teleportation device, allowing the three of them to warp out of the area, just in time as Luna found that the Butcher smashed through the ceiling and grabbed onto her barrier. Luna turned and used more of her magic to hurl the demon back away from the chapel, finding that it collided with some of the trees as she called for the survivors to get out of here, while she held off her foe, who came rushing at her. This reminded her of the time that she and Celestia dealt with Tirek, they were like ants to his impressive stolen height, and the Butcher had an impressive height that seemed at least twice her size, if not triple in total, hence his large butcher's cleaver. With that in mind she shifted her stance as she used her warhammer as a shield to block the incoming attack, only to find that the Butcher smashed through the handle of Leoric's, breaking the weapon, and when she used the head of the warhammer she found that the demon destroyed it like it was just a twig.

That caused Luna to backup for a moment as she discarded the pieces of the weapon, still surprised that the demon had the power to break such a powerful weapon like it was nothing, as she drew out a pair of blades from her arsenal and rushed at the Butcher. She found that the demon's hide was stronger than she was expecting, as the moment Luna brought the blades down on it both of them shattered like brittle clay being thrown against a hard rock wall, causing her to drop out of the air as her foe swung at her again. Luna suspected that she was going to run through a lot of her weapons while she was stalling this demon, plus she couldn't just warp away since the Butcher seemed like the type that would rush her if she tried to do such a thing. With that in mind she went with the heavier weapons first, the ones in her arsenal that might be able to stand up to the demon's power and his hide, like the battleaxes, greatswords, and warhammers, yet she found that none of them seemed to do much as the Butcher tanked her blows and smashed through her weapons like they were nothing.

The Butcher, on the other hand, continued to advance on Luna, each powerful swing of his cleaver breaking the ground and shattering each weapon she brought to bare against him, leading her to wonder if it was time to summon Nightfell to her side, even if it would take some time to do so.

As the last of her weapons clattered to the ground, shattered and broken, the Butcher punched Luna in the chest and sent her flying through one of the buildings of Wortham, a place that was now evacuated and deserted, meaning it was just the two of them, causing her to groan as she realized that this demon was far stronger than she had assumed. As she thought about that, however, the Butcher seemed to stop, as if Maghda was commanding him to flee, though before Luna had time to react she felt a surge of energy coming from New Tristram, Leah was angry at something, or someone. Sure enough not a few seconds later the teleportation device became active and she found Leah angrily marching out of the ruined chapel, but the moment she laid eyes on the large demon she didn't back down, rather she just glared at it like her hatred and anger would be enough to burn it to ash. The funny thing in Luna's eyes was that the Butcher actually backed up a tiny bit, almost as if he could sense Leah's power, everything that she was capable of, as Leah angrily growled at the demon as she pulled out her bow and focused a lot of magical energy into one arrow.

This one tore through the air and slammed into the Butcher's chest, sending the demon flying into the air, as in his feet were lifted off the ground as he was tossed into another part of the area they were in, before Leah huffed as Luna pulled herself up and walked over to her, wrapping her arms around the girl.

"Leah... what happened?" Luna asked, though she had a terrible feeling that she knew exactly what the answer was, since there was only one thing that could make the girl this angry, and she was hoping that she was wrong, even though she also found that Leah was no longer hiding her slender tail, it coiled around her leg for a few seconds.

"Uncle, he... Maghda tortured him, tried to get him to repair the blade, and when I arrived she fled with the Stranger. Uncle Deckard was able to repair the blade, but died shortly after doing so." Leah replied, confirming Luna's fears, plus the fact that the Butcher was merely a distraction to make sure Luna couldn't be there to save Deckard, and yet Leah's anger just melted away as the two stood in the embrace of the other, like she was the only one who could calm Leah now, "Kormac and Lyndon are making sure the Coven is no longer in New Tristram, and I brought you this, the Stranger's sword... an angels' weapon... to carry while we search for him."

Luna nodded as she took the blade from Leah, who had been storing it inside her backpack, but for the time being she just focused on making sure Leah was able to calm down and cry as she grieved for her uncle, all while thinking about ways to make the Coven, the Butcher, and Maghda pay for their crimes, something to look forward to in the coming days.
