Diablo 3: Hell's Eclipse
Interlude: New Information and Arrivals
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"So, Tyrael, what's this message you came to deliver?" Luna asked, while at the same time she and the others had set up the table that she, Leah, and Deckard had sat at while talking about this world and her own world, allowing everyone to sit down, after Kormac made sure the body of Leah's uncle was hidden in the other room, "Is it about the last two Evils?"
"Yes. Belial and Azmodan have been spreading their darkness for some time now, and Caldeum is suffering because the shadow of Belial has fallen of it." Tyrael stated, though his attention was on Luna right now, as she was beyond anything he had seen before and she knew she wasn't a demon or even an angel, she was something else entirely, and her new sword seemed like the perfect match for her, "I know Azmodan is plotting somewhere, but before my fall I was unable to track him down, so I only know where his brother is currently hiding. My plan is simple: we're going to travel to Caldeum, investigate the city, and kill the Lord of Lies, while hopefully learning where the Lord of Sin is located so we can eliminate the last of the Evils and save Sanctuary... fortunately we won't have to search blindly, as Maghda will lead us right to her dark master."
"Two birds with one stone... we avenge uncle Deckard and learn about Belial's location." Leah remarked, where she had to wonder how long it might take them to track down the first of the two Lords of Hell that Tyrael wanted them to take out, as he no doubt recalled everything he had heard about each of their powers, during his time as the 'Stranger', and no doubt suspected that they were the force he was looking for, before she sighed, "I know time is of the essence, but... I'm not leaving until uncle Deckard's been buried. We should have plenty of time, since arranging transport for such a trip will take some time and effort."
"Sounds fair to me. Did the old man have any rites he wanted performed, in the event of his passing?" Kormac asked, as he knew this was going to be hard for Leah, she was literally going to be letting go one of of the most important people in her life, leaving her with just Luna to rely on, as he didn't trust Maghda's lie about Adria being alive somewhere.
"Yes, he... he said he preferred cremation. No doubt to ensure there was nothing for the forces of Hell to use." Leah replied, as that was the excuse she thought her uncle liked to give her, that he had no real reason for his actions, but after seeing the Skeleton King, and fighting both the Coven and the Butcher, she was beginning to see why her uncle would want her to do such a thing, before she sighed, "When Maghda attacked us, and I had a chance to cry over his body, I... I noticed that my uncle's locket wasn't around his neck, meaning it must have fallen into the depths of the cathedral. I don't need it to burn his body, but it would be nice to have something to remember him by, besides his Horadrim tome."
Luna pulled Leah close and told her that they could go back into the cathedral together, it would be quicker with just the two of them, though following that there was a knock on the door and Kormac opened it, revealing the form of Rumford on the other side, which meant he likely had a report for them.
"Luna, Leah, we've received additional reinforcements... and some people have arrived to see you." the guard stated, which caused the group to emerge from the house, finding that there were more people eager to join the Militia and take down all of the enemies that were still in the area, but there were seven unique figures that seemed out of place when compared to the group of people.
Luna found that the group consisted of five females and two males, where one of the females was dressed in what appeared to be light plate armor, another wore a mage robe, one looked like a doctor from a swamp, the fourth wore leather bits on all of her intimate places while showing off her muscles, and the last wore dark leather armor, while the two men wore what appeared to be the attire of a monk and bone armor respectively.
"I am Valla, a demon hunter. These are my companions Johanna, a crusader; Kharazim, a monk; Li-Ming, a wizard; Nazeebo, a witch doctor; Sonya, a barbarian; and Kara, a necromancer." the lady in the dark leather armor stated, where Luna found that each of them were armed, with crossbows, axes, swords, wands, and whatever else they might have brought with them, something that caused many of the people around them to eye the group up and down before giving them space, "Each of us have heard of the Fallen Star, in one form or another, and have come to investigate it's arrival, as well as fight against the darkness it brings."
"Well, you guys are a little late for that. We've already done that." Luna replied, where she beckoned to Tyrael for a moment as he looked at the assembled group, who, in turn, glanced at him for a couple of seconds, allowing her to see that they were curious as to what was going on right now, "New Tristram is safe from the Skeleton King, though the Militia is gathering to take down another other threats that are out there, but we are preparing to travel to Caldeum so we can do battle with one of the remaining two Lords of Hell. You are more than welcome to join us."
"And I'll be coming as well." Haedrig said, approaching the group as they talked, where he pointed back at someone who had arrived with the Militia's reinforcements, a guy who appeared to be another blacksmith, and Luna was sure there were more looking to join up now that trouble had found New Tristram again, "The Militia has enough metal workers to make their gear, plus you'll need someone to outfit everyone and make new weapons or armor for all of you, especially since you're planning on going after the Lords of Hell."
Luna suspected that Haedrig was also thinking of the fame that one would gain by being known as the one that worked on all of the gear that heroes used to slay the last two Lords of Hell, but decided not to comment on that, because Haedrig was one heck of a blacksmith, he had mended Leoric's crown like it was nothing. With that in mind she would be foolish to turn him away and have him remain here, though while Leah was worried about how he'd work, since it didn't look like his stuff could be moved, only for him to surprise them by showing them that he had a wagon nearby. Such a thing meant that he had the ability to pack up his entire workshop into a wagon, which was like a carriage back home when Luna thought about it, since so much fit in one space, and he even had a small sleeping area near the front. It was incredibly impressive when she thought about it, while at the same time Leah nodded her head and watched as Valla's group dispersed into the town for a time, some helping Tyrael plan their journey and caravan while others went off to gather supplies.
With their new allies busy, and Kormac and Lyndon focused on preparing for the trip as well, Luna and Leah were left alone, to which Luna nodded as she brought her friend back to the teleportation device before teleporting both of them outside the area that the cathedral's secret passage rested in. Her reasoning was simple, there was a path Deckard had come from when she and Leah went in search of him, a path that had shattered after he crossed it, and since the skeletons were done for, thanks to the downfall of the Skeleton King and Tyrael's power was back in his body, Luna was sure they would be alone to search for the missing locket. Even with that in mind she had Ashbringer on her back in case she found enemies to fight, as she loved her new weapon, it was a worthy replacement for her battleaxe, but even though Luna was looking forward to using it again she suspected that there would be no skeletons or undead to fight. While they walked down the stairs she also found that Leah was distracted, it was easy to see in how she walked and how her tail moved, and she understood why, the thought of actually saying goodbye to her uncle was bothering Leah, since he had been the only family she had known.
When they reached the bottom of the stairs, however, Luna stopped and pulled Leah into a hug, surprising the young girl at first, it was out of nowhere, before Leah started to sniff and cry as she rested her head against Luna's chest, her walls falling as she finally let the floodgates open at last.
"It's okay, I'm here for you." Luna said, as she knew that sometimes all people needed was a shoulder to cry on, though at the same time there was more she could do, but with someone like Leah she didn't want to go overboard, before taking a few seconds to glance at the area that Deckard had been in the first time they were down here, "You don't have to do this, you can just tell me what the locket looks like and I can..."
Luna didn't have a chance to finish her statement as Leah did something she wasn't expecting, she leaned forward for just a few seconds and actually kissed Luna on the lips, where she returned the favor for a few seconds, especially since it helped calm Leah down, so it wasn't long before Leah pulled herself back with a blush on her face.
"Luna... thank you. For being there, for listening to me, for offering me all the help you've given me... I honestly don't know where I'd be without you." Leah softly said, because she considered herself lucky to have someone like Luna in her life, even with all of the chaos that was unfolding with Tyrael talking about the Lords of Hell and the loss of her uncle, as the alicorn was a rock she needed right now, least she lose herself to her chaotic emotions, "I... I can continue. I'll mourn uncle Deckard once we finally cremate him."
Luna nodded as she held onto Leah and leapt over the collapsed walkway, bringing them down the other side, and once she was on the ground once more she let the girl pull away, though she sensed there was more to Leah's gesture than just her mourning her uncle. It had been a long time since Luna had had a lover, and while she wasn't totally sure about many things she also had to admit that there was something about Leah that drew her to the girl, in fact part of Leah reminded her of Twilight Sparkle, who Luna had crushed on a little when they first met. Of course Leah was no longer like Twilight, Leah was a fighter and a survivor, though that had to be why she was drawn to the girl, almost like how Leah was drawn to her, which she suspected they would explore in greater detail during the journey to Caldeum, in addition to their training. She had the feeling that their training would include her showing the newcomers some of her moves and magic, to make them better as a whole, even though she doubted that everyone would be in the same area at the same time, but it would make everything more interesting during their travels.
Eventually Leah came to a stop as she spotted what she was looking for, a silver locket that, when opened, held two pictures inside it, one of her uncle and one of herself, though this time Luna gave her some space as she sat there with her uncle's tome in her lap, since she had been carrying it in her bag this entire time.
"Oh uncle... what am I supposed to do now?" Leah softly asked, speaking more to herself while noticing that Luna was giving her some space, as she had to wonder what her uncle would have done, even though she was committed to going with the angel so she could avenge her uncle, at the very least.
She wasn't expecting a response, but yet it seemed as if the light and dust almost formed a faint image of her uncle as he pointed at the tome, where a faint light was coming from the Horadrim icon that was on the front cover, something she was only now noticing. She looked over the symbol for a moment before finding a small latch that, when released, allowed her to extract something from the icon, which appeared to be a small red crystal that held some sort of power inside it, almost like her own power at times. Leah had no idea what the item was or why her uncle had hidden it in such a way, but she had the feeling he meant for her to find it when she was ready and might have left a bit of magic to let her know it was time to take it, where she found that the crystal was no longer than her pointer finger, like it was a sliver of another crystal. She felt that this might be a catalyst for her, a way to increase her power and maybe control it far more than she had in the past, causing her to offer some thanks to her uncle as she pocketed the small red crystal, before getting up and turning to Luna.
With the locket collected, and a new item secured, the pair returned to New Tristram, as there were new people to talk to and items to acquire so they could prepare for the journey ahead of them, yet this time Leah was looking forward to what the future held for her, Luna, and the others.
