Interlude: Farewells and Departure

"Are you sure that you want to leave, dear?" the innkeeper asked, as she and the rest of New Tristram had been watching the ordered movement of the Militia gaining new people, new adventurers coming in after hearing of the Fallen Star, by either knowing about the event like how Cain knew it was coming or by following someone they knew, and Tyrael getting his caravan ready to depart, and she was worried about Leah.

"Yes, uncle Deckard would be disappointed in me if I didn't go assist Luna in aiding Tyrael." Leah replied, which was partly the truth, though the other part was due to the fact that she and Luna might be a thing now, she honestly wasn't too sure at the moment, but Luna was her mentor when it came to magic and that, alone, was another reason for her following, since Luna was joining the angel, "New Tristram should be fine, with Captain Rumford and the expanded Militia to watch over the area and keep all of the remaining dangers at bay."

"You guys are doing a brave thing. Foolish, in the eyes of the rest of the Militia, but brave in my eyes." Rumford stated, as he was present as well, to say his farewells to Leah and Luna, since this would likely be the last time he saw either of them for a long time, or maybe it would be the last time for real, but he was hoping they would destroy the Lords of Hell and return with tales of their victory, "I wish I could go with you, but someone is needed here to watch over the rest of the Militia and maintain order with the new arrivals... but you two had better come back with grand stories of your travels and your victory over the Lords of Hell."

Luna nodded her head to that, there wasn't much more she could say to the people of New Tristram other than 'farewell', as she didn't have Leah or even Deckard's connections to this place, but it had been a home away from home and the people had been welcoming, so she was sad to see them put this place behind them. With that in mind she shook the hands of the people who came to see them off, letting everyone else say farewell to Leah since she had been part of their lives for so long, before focusing on the caravan that was outside New Tristram, a convoy of carriages that were like Haedrig's. They knew the angel had been true to his word, he had used all of the resources available to him to ensure they had enough food to last all of them to the port town that would let them cross the sea so they could get to Caldeum, along with room for everyone. He had explained everything to her previously, they would be using a ship to cross the sea and reach their destination, it was far faster than going to the north and then curving around the coast to reach the city that Belial was hiding in, and he assured her that the ship would carry even their carriages across the water.

Other than that there wasn't much for Luna to worry about, to which she pulled out the item she had been working on while they formed their caravan, she had been focused on carving the khazra staff into something else, since she found that they still had it once Tyrael was back in control of his power. She had come to the decision that Leah needed something to help her in her training, a focus that could even double as a weapon, so she was carving the staff down into the handle of a bow and designed it so that when Leah used it her magic would form a bow of whatever element she was using. That was what she intended for the item, hence why she was focusing all of the magic inside the staff down into the core so she could make the handle, though even she knew it would take some time before she was ready to hand it to Leah. Other than that she had trained a little more with Ashbringer, just to make sure it wasn't her imagination and she confirmed that it was like her own battleaxe, which was good to see since it meant she didn't have to summon Nightfell to her side.

After thinking about that, however, Luna found that the rest of New Tristram was allowing them to depart at last, it was time for them to get going, and sure enough she, Leah, and all of their new allies gathered outside with Tyrael, each climbing onto their carriages before he got the caravan moving for a short while, stopping near the hill that Deckard Cain's funeral pyre was resting on.

"You know, for the longest time I had always assumed that uncle's stories were just that... stories. Nothing to be taken even a little seriously." Leah commented, though it was only her, Luna, and Tyrael on the hill, Kormac and Lyndon had stayed back with the others to give the trio some privacy, where she held the tome that her uncle had spent his life on, containing his life's work and attempts to find the remaining Lords of Hell, not to mention deciphering the End of Days prophecy, "But now, after meeting an angel and hearing that one of the seven Lords of Hell is real, I realize how foolish I was to ignore him... that I didn't see the truth that was right in front of my face. I guess... I saw what I wanted to see, just like how many assumed that uncle Deckard saw what he wanted to see."

"Deckard Cain was a good man, and he sacrificed much to save this world... I don't know if he was willing to sacrifice his life, but he would do anything to bring down the Lords of Hell." Tyrael said, looking at the dead figure that was in front of them as he held a torch in one hand, which he would use to light the pyre once they were done talking, before he glanced at Luna and Leah for a few more seconds, "He left the two of you the keys to finishing his life's work."

"He left us his tome, containing everything he knew and everything he researched... even his musings about me, despite the fact that we barely knew each other." Luna remarked, in fact she remembered how they had encountered each other after Leah found her in the crater she had made when she landed outside New Tristram, a small crater compared to the mess Tyrael had made during his own descent, before she glanced at the angel, "Tyrael, you look like you have something you want to share with us."

The angel nodded and handed her the torch for a moment, which she took, and once his other hand was freed he placed one on her shoulder and one on Leah's, allowing them to be pulled into a vision of sorts, in a golden and angelic place that had to be the High Heavens. In fact the vision seemed to be of Tyrael, with his hood up and still having energy wings, being put on trial by an imposing angel that seemed to be the highest ranking, an Archangel like Tyrael, potentially a being that was above Tyrael, and his statement was about how their ally had violated the laws of the High Heavens to help the mortals of Sanctuary. Luna's reason for believing such a thing was because the imposing angel had a halo above his hood, which all of the others in the area didn't have, and soon they had a name for this figure, 'Imperius', who Tyrael accused of hiding behind his throne while he brought justice to a world, causing the annoying angel to actually rush down to the area that their ally was in and attack him. The interesting thing was that Tyrael, being justice itself, viewed angels as humanity's saviors, to aid the innocent, and since none of the other Archangels were willing to break their laws he decided to no longer stand with them, as he said he would no longer be 'their brother'.

Following that he actually broke his shoulder pads and discarded his wings, discarded his angelic nature to become a mortal, which is why Tyrael now had a head and a face instead of the hood, which was followed by tendrils of energy grabbing him before the now mortal angel was ejected from the Heavens, his sword breaking while he did so.

"I fell, willingly, and became a mortal of my own free will... because humanity is the key to saving this world." Tyrael said, as once the pair knew what he had done to reach this point there was no reason for him to hold their shoulders anymore, to which he took the torch from Luna while Leah contemplated what this meant for them.

"So, I'm going to say it: Imperius seems like a prick." Luna remarked, though that was mostly due to the fact that she didn't have all the information on the Archangel and the High Heavens, so with her limited knowledge she was quick to label him as a donkey and an annoying figure that she didn't want to deal with, least she be tempted to knock him down a peg, before she sighed for a few seconds, "And it sounds like the High Heavens won't be coming to our aid."

"No, and even if Imperius were to take my warnings seriously he would most likely try to destroy Sanctuary." Tyrael stated, as his brother really hated this world and the people that called it home, given the fact that humanity was the offspring of an angel and a demon, both powerful in their own right, and while the current humans weren't as powerful as the very first generation of Nephalem he knew some in their group had slumbering powers inside them, "We are on our own, facing the last two Lords of Hell... this is how it must be, with Heaven bound to inaction by their laws."

"We'll make due, just as we did when you fell into the cathedral." Leah said, because she and Luna were good at that sort of thing, especially given how they tackled everything that happened since Tyrael made his grand entrance as the Fallen Star, so she had a feeling they would be ready to do anything and everything to assist the former angel in his quest.

Luna nodded for a moment as Leah told Tyrael to do it, where the former angel set fire to the funeral pyre and they watched as Deckard Cain's body was engulfed in flames, where Luna wrapped an arm around Leah and held her close, so she could have someone to lean on for support in this moment, as she wondered what the future held in store for them.
