Chapter 1
The Encounter
In the small town of Wintersville, it was a generally normal day as per usual, fall was quickly approaching and the slight nip in the air and trees growing bare assured that fact. It was just before sunrise when the ever familiar droning of Tyler’s alarm pulled him out of his pleasant slumber, much to his dismay. He simply rolled over and slapped his snooze button before closing his eyes again, hoping to get more rest before he had to drag himself out of bed, but as he knew for all his life, once he was awake, he could not get back to sleep.
Why can’t my body let me sleep like normal people can? He thought to himself before shrugging and going with what his body told him.
So he just sat up with a groan kicking his covers off his body and sitting up on the edge of his bed, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. Once he felt he was awake enough that he wouldn't end up in the streets in his boxers again he walked out of his room and into the bathroom for his "business meeting" he had every single morning.
After relieving his bladder he went out into the kitchen to silence the growling of his stomach.
“Shut up I know you're hungry…” he said looking down at his stomach before pulling out a box of Cheerios and pouring it into his bowl, promptly pouring milk along with it. He walked back to his room, bowl in hand, as he shoveled a few spoon fulls of Cheerios into his mouth.
After he made quick work of his breakfast, slurping the milk from the bowl, he opened his closet grabbing a pair of jeans and his plain black long-sleeve shirt, quickly dressing himself before looking in the mirror on his door. Tyler was a skinny eighteen-year-old boy with pale skin, topping at just below six feet tall. His long dark brown hair flowed to just below his shoulders covering his ears and sometimes his left eye as his bangs always seemed to grow in that direction. He looked pretty good with long hair, for being a guy that is.
He heard the voice of his mother call out to him from the kitchen as she fixed her morning coffee, "Tyler, wear something warm, I don't want you catching a cold."
Tyler just sighed and rolled his eyes, grabbing a red t-shirt from his closet and pulling it over his head. He didn't think it was so cold out, but he just wanted to please his mother by doing what she said.
He took a quick look at his alarm clock which clearly displayed the time to be 7:25 A.M., almost time when his bus left the station not too far from his house. He quickly grabbed some socks and his favorite red Converses, slipping them on and grabbing his backpack before heading out the front door, waving goodbye to his mother. He walked briskly down the street towards his bus stop, checking the time on his cellphone to make sure he wasn't going to miss his bus.
A few minutes later Tyler saw the familiar white city bus slowly come to a complete halt in front of him. The doors opened, revealing the bus driver he had come to know so well.
“Morning Bill.” He said with as much cheer he could muster this early in the morning.
“Morning Tyler, how was your weekend?” Bill simply replied as Tyler took an empty seat near the front.
“It was pretty much the same as it normally is.” Tyler replied flatly, he never really was one for small talk.
Tyler just idly stared out the window, watching the scenery go by as the bus drove through town, going by the normal stops it went by to pick up any other riders.
As the bus came to a stop Tyler couldn’t help but notice a figure out by some trees, he rubs his eyes to make sure he wasn’t just seeing things and narrowed his eyes to make the figure out better. It seemed to be a rather tall man, looking to be almost 7 feet tall, in a dark black suit, he couldn’t see any hair on the pale, almost completely white, head of the figure. He couldn’t really make out any facial features either, not even eyes.
He quickly dismissed the idea of somebody not having a face, simply blaming it on the distance between them.
Tyler looked to the rider who just came onto the bus and decided to ask them about what he’d just seen.
“Uhm, excuse me sir, but do you know who that is over there?” he asked as he pointed out the window in the direction of the trees.
The man looked out the window then back to Tyler with a look of minor annoyance on his face, “What do you mean kid, ain’t nobody out there.” He said with a grunt before walking towards the back of the bus and taking a seat.
Tyler couldn’t believe what he had just heard, he quickly looked back out the window to see that the figure had all but vanished, leaving Tyler feeling completely crazy.
The day went on as it normally did for Tyler, he went to his classes, he rode the bus home and then he spent the rest of the day on his computer playing Team Fortress 2 and other online games.
He was in the middle of a match when he heard his dad call out to him from the living room.
“Tyler can you take the garbage out?” causing Tyler to let out a sigh before setting his headset aside and going out to grab the trash bag set out for him, walking down to the trash cans they kept at the end of their driveway. Just as he dropped the bag into the empty trash can and putting the lid back on he looked and saw the same figure he had seen before, out across the street just outside of the trees, looking blankly towards his direction. Tyler held the gaze of the tall man before he felt a chill run down his spine, as he realized the man did in fact have no face, causing him to look away and gather his thoughts.
What is he doing here? Did he somehow know I was staring at him? Did he follow me to my own home? What the hell could this freak want with me?
Tyler looked back in the direction of the man, only to see that he was uncomfortably close to him. Tyler stood there frozen in his place, daring not to blink or look away from the faceless man who easily towered over him, his long arms reaching down to his ankles of his thin, elongated legs. He kept staring until he saw long black tendrils slither out from the man’s back, slowly reaching out towards him. Tyler could only watch in horror until something in his brain told him he needed to get out of there, and he needed to do it quick.
Tyler turned and sprinted the opposite direction, towards his house, only to find the man standing right in front of the door, as if he had somehow teleported there. Tyler skidded to a stop turning on his heel before sprinting as fast as he legs could carry him towards the trees across the road. He kept running through the forest, several branches scraping across his face and arms, causing several scratches to appear on them before they slowly started to bleed. He started to slow his pace, eventually coming to a complete stop at a clearing in the forest with a large old tree in the center. Tyler looked around before he sat on the ground, leaning back against the trunk of the tree to catch his breath.
“What the hell is going on here? This can’t be real…..this has to be a nightmare…I just need to wake up….Then everything will be alright…”he kept reasoning with himself as he closed his eyes and kept repeating out loud as if to try waking himself up from this supposed nightmare he was in. “There's no place like home...There's no place like home….There's no place like home….” He slowly opened his eyes only to see he was still in the forest, much to his dismay. "Maybe I need some ruby slippers..."
Tyler had almost drifted to sleep before he heard the rustling of leaves and the crunch of dirt under the foot of something draw closer to him, causing his eyes to shoot open and behold the blank white face of the man a mere inches from his, he wanted to scream but couldn’t find his voice, he was completely frozen in place as this faceless man….creature….whatever this thing was, just stared into his very being with unseen eyes. Tyler got up to run but fell down to the ground, his face slamming into the dirt, he looked back to see a long black tendril from before wrapped tightly around his ankle, he struggled to pull free only to get wrapped in more of the black tendrils, his body started to feel numb, his mind started going blank and fuzzy as he slipped out of consciousness, the last thing in his sight being the featureless face staring at him, never changing....always watching.
Tyler groaned as he finally came to, his entire body sore and covered in dirt as he lie down on the ground, slowly gathering his thoughts before he felt able to sit up, he had to shield his eyes from the bright sunlight that shone down on him, his eyes slowly adjusting to the light before he could look around. He was sitting on the outskirts of a forest, a large grassy field, adorned with colorful wild flowers. He stood up and decided to start walking around, hoping to find somebody who could help him.
Just outside the Everfree Forest a yellow pegasus by the name of Fluttershy was singing happily to herself as she tended to all her animal friends, giving them their respective breakfasts. She was just about to hand her personal pet bunny Angel his carrot when she was interrupted by the yell of a familiar cyan pegasus.
“FLUTTERSHY!!!!” could be heard for over a mile radius from the mouth of none other than Rainbow Dash, her shouting causing the yellow pegasus to squeal loudly and hides behind a bush, dropping the carrot in front of Angel, before peeking her head out to see Rainbow Dash holding her pet tortoise tank in her hooves, hovering above the ground.
“R-Rainbow Dash you scared me….Why were you yelling so loudly, i-is something wrong?” she asked as she slowly came out from behind the bush, a concerned look on her face.
“You’re darn right something is wrong! It’s Tank!” she exclaimed holding her tortoise out to the yellow mare, showing tank was acting extremely lethargic, even by tortoise standards.
“Oh no you poor thing, you must be sick!” Fluttershy immediately grabbed hold of Tank and took him into her cottage, with Rainbow Dash following closely behind. Fluttershy set tank down on an empty chair and put a dish of water in front of him “He seems to have a pretty bad tummy ache, the poor dear, just let him rest and he should be fine.”Fluttershy said with a smile towards her cyan friend.
Rainbow Dash gave a big sigh of relief before coming down to the floor “That’s a relief, I was really worried about him.”
Fluttershy smiled and opened her front door "I'll keep a close eye on him until he gets better. Since you're here let's just chat for a while."
Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy had a pleasant chat about their friends, Rainbow Dash's new tricks, Fluttershy's animals, stuff mares would always find adequate to keep a conversation going.
"...and as you could imagine Twilight wasn't all that happy that I crashed into her.....again." Dash chuckled as she recounted the events of this morning.
"Well I'm glad nopony got hurt, that would be..."Fluttershy froze and could only stare in pure terror, stopped by a strange sight.
Rainbow Dash gave a confused look at her friend until she turned and saw the strange sight to behold. A creature that could walk on two legs in a full upright position, stood about 2 ponies high and had no fur, save for the long brown mane on his head.
Fluttershy let out a scream and darted into her house, the sound of locks and deadbolts being heard.
Rainbow dash turned to the creature and stared daggers at him "Alright pal, I don't know what you are, but you're goin' down!" she shouted before barreling towards him at full speed.
Tyler couldn’t believe what he saw, a blue miniature horse with wings and a rainbow colored mane flying right at him, faster than he would ever think a something was able to fly without a jet engine. Next thing he knew he was flat on his back, wincing in pain, with the small horse standing on him with a triumphant grin.
“That’s right! Don’t you mess with the best flyer in all of Equestira! Rainbow Dash!” she said proudly with her hoof raised high
Tyler shot his eyes open the minute he heard the voice and looked up at the blue winged horse “D-did you just talk?......” he asked flatly staring in disbelief at the brightly colored mare.
Rainbow Dash looked down at him with a slight glare “And why wouldn’t I be able to talk?” she sneered at him before leaning her face in really close to his “Besides, I should be asking YOU the questions mister! Who in the buck are you?! Coming around scaring Fluttershy and her animals?” she growled digging her hoofs into his stomach
Tyler grunted as the ponies hooves dug into him “H-hey watch the hooves! That really hurts!” he grunted as he tried pushing the pegasus off of him.
Rainbow Dash felt his hands on her and immediately took it as an attempt to hurt her and punches him square in the face with her hoof, knocking him out instantly.
Fluttershy ran over and looked over the unconscious creature, examining every detail of him before looking to Rainbow Dash “W-what do you think it is?”
“Your guess is as good as mine.” She replied with a shrug.
“Maybe we should take it to Twilight, she might know something about it.” Fluttershy suggested as Rainbow Hopped off Tyler’s chest.
“Yeah, that egghead is bound to know something about what this thing is.”
Okay so that is chapter 1 hopefully I didn’t do too bad for a first story idea and my writing abilities, please be VERY honest with what you think about it.
