Chapter 10: Of Cuddles and Kisses

Written by TheCrimsonDM

Rarity sat on the couch in her private upstairs living room. Nearby sat Rainbow Dash. It was Rainbow Dash's turn for television tonight and to everypony's surprise except for Rarity, Rainbow Dash had picked one of her favorite cartoons to watch on marathon. Something about a young deer adventurer and his brother a shape-shifting dog as they went on silly adventures together. Sometimes sad, sometimes very strange, but almost always happy at the end. Of course there was a series of episodes about a vampire pony who had a distant and tragic relationship with the main villain of the series who served as their father figure. It was absolutely soul-crushing to see, and Rarity began to get invested in the show's small details after that. Finding that much like a plain dress created by an expert seamstress, the main show may be direct and a bit bland sometimes, but the small details shone out like diamonds and created a hidden pattern that wove around the entire show's story and universe in such ways that she swore the creator must be a genius.

Rainbow Dash leaned in and wrapped her forelegs around Rarity as she nuzzled into Rarity's neck. "This episode's so sad, why is it so sad?"

"Because it is sad dear. It's so hard to think about losing one's parent, to insanity no less."

"I didn't want to be sad tonight, I wanted to be happy."

Rarity leaned in and kissed the top of her marefriend's head. "Do you want me to put something else on? how about that show with the talking sponge?"

That show was beyond terrible and annoying, but if it made her lover cheer up it would be worth it.

"No... no more TV. It's late."

Now that was weird, Rainbow Dash never said no to TV unless she wanted something else. The crazy filly would stay up playing games or watching TV all night if she had the chance. Something must be going on. "Did you want to go to bed?"

"Y-yeah. You probably need cuddles or something right?"

Aha, so that was it. Rainbow was feeling sad and needed cuddles, but still had just enough pride not to directly say so. Well Rarity could do that for her other half. After all what kind of lover would she be if she didn't offer to cuddle any chance she could? "Of course, dear. I love cuddling with you."

They turned the TV off and then went upstairs to the bedroom. Rarity had noted that Rainbow Dash was staying here an awful lot lately, even before they revealed to their friends the two were an item. Rarity had only been up to Rainbow Dash's house once or twice, it was a massive mansion made out of clouds, almost a castle in its own right. Taking up considerable air space to be sure. Though from what Rarity understood, the castle was empty. Only the lone pegasus lived there. And since turtles couldn't exactly live in clouds even her pet Tank was usually in a special tank not roaming the house but just staying put where he lived.

The place was simply too large for one pony.

Once they had gotten to the bedroom Rarity closed the door behind them and turned off the lights only leaving the lamp on the nightstand on as Rainbow Crawled into bed and under the covers. Rarity looked at her, meeting those magenta eyes and seeing that distant look in them that sometimes came out in the middle of the night. Only when they were alone, and nopony else was around. A vulnerable and sensitive look that made Rarity feel like the most special pony on the entire planet to get to see.

Rarity climbed into bed and lay beside her, staring deep into those eyes. "You know, when I first saw your cloud home, I had assumed you had a full staff of servants that worked in secret living there with you. Or a full family. Or both."

Rainbow Dash let out a quiet sigh. "I used to."

That... was news to her. "Really?"

Rainbow's ears went flat against the side of her head. "Don't tell nopony, got it."

"I am sworn to secrecy. I'd do the Pinkie Pie thing, but you know... she would instantly learn of the secret then. So my word alone will have to suffice for now."

"Yeah, Pinkie's scary like that sometimes haha..." Rainbow gulped. "But yeah, I used to have servants, and family. Big family too. Mom, dad, lots of siblings."

It only occurred to her at that moment that Rarity had never once heard of Rainbow Dash's family, nor heard about her past. If she was honest, she didn't know much about most of her friend's extended families. The most she got from Fluttershy once was that her parents were hippies. So Rarity had to move carefully to make sure she was not overstepping her bounds here. "I see, where are they now?"

Rainbow rolled over, facing away from her and closed her eyes. "Their altogether, they kind of left me alone... and I didn't feel like keeping servants and what not. My family has a lot of money in some banks or something, I don't mess with it, I don't need it, I don't want it... but we've been together for a while yeah?"

Rarity scooted in, being the big spoon as she held her lover close. "Yes. We have. I remember when I introduced you to my folks as my special somepony. They... accepted it."

"Your folks seem to not really care about anything."

"Oh don't say that... but your right. They just accept everything they see and roll with it, its almost like they think life is one big party, but not in the way Pinkie does. Their rather irresponsible."

"Is that why your raising Sweetie Belle?"

"It is... one reason. There is another, and I'll tell you it someday. But yes, I need to make sure that Sweetie Belle has a responsible pony to take care of them. Why did you know when I was a teenager, I snuck into their wine cabinet to drink some alcohol. Do you know what they did when they found me?"

"No what?"

"They began drinking with me! How, how irresponsible! I was too young, and instead of punishing me they just dragged me into it. It was such a shock to my system that I chose not to drink again on purpose until I was of legal age."

"Wow, that's... bad. Like really bad."

"See, its your hidden responsible nature that makes me love you. Perhaps one day I can have a baby with you and we can do better together."

"Rarity."

"Or not... if you don't want too."

"No, not that. I'd love to have a baby with you someday... but we'd have to adopt one right? That could be fun..."

"Got any candidates in mind? Perhaps an orange little pegasus?"

"Am I that obvious?"

"Only to me darling."

Rarity decided to leave out the fact that she may not be allowed to adopt a pony, given her unique... medical background. It may not be allowed, but she'd at least try. For her sake.

"Rarity, I want to introduce you to my parents... tomorrow if that's okay."

"Oh are they nearby?"

"Yes. Yes they are."

That was strange, how come they never visited if they were nearby? Did they disown Rainbow Dash? If that was the case how come she wanted to introduce her? Though it was considered proper etiquette to introduce your special somepony to your parents, sometimes that just wasn't possible. She always figured that Rainbow Dash would never do something like this, that the estranged relationship was just too much to bear. If Rainbow Dash was willing to open like this though, then Rarity was going to take that opportunity without any question.

"It would be an honor my love."

"Thank you. I'll need you there with me. Just... don't think less of me when it's done alright?"

"I could never think less of you."

Rainbow Dash relaxed in her embrace and Rarity could feel the mare slowly slipping off into slumber. Rarity closed her eyes and nuzzled into that mane. The scent of sweat, dirt, and rain were clinging to her but instead of being gross, it just smelled heavenly. It smelled like the pony she loved, and that was all she ever needed it to smell like.

The next morning came around and Twilight woke up with having rather satisfying dreams of playing video games with Luna all night as the royal princess showed off her collection and explained what each one was and how to play it. Of course when she woke up on her bed with Celestia behind her, and Luna in front of her, she realized perhaps that dream wasn't so random and more an excitable princess wanting to share in the best place she could. In her dreams.

Well it was thoughtful if that was the case, and it also got Twilight away from the kissing dreams for once. So she woke up feeling rather cool instead of overheated. Getting out of bed though was going to be a brand new challenge. She was stuck in a mass of precariously placed princess parts, and was seeing no easy way out of it. So when in doubt, magic it out. Twilight's horn began to glow pink, taking on a slightly reddish hue as she teleported herself out of the pony princess pile and onto the hard wood floor.

Spike was not here this time, but looking at the window outside at the dawn's morning light having already risen she knew that she had probably slept in. Which meant that Celestia must have gotten up just long enough to turn on the sun so to speak before going back to bed. Well it was sweet to see the sisters like that. Even without her, the two sisters only scooted closer together, their limbs wrapping around each other as they nuzzled in. She watched them, breathing deeply, wings over each other's bodies, hooves slowly sliding up and down one another's sides, slowly going toward the other's flanks.

They... were sleeping right?

After watching for a few minutes, and feeling a slight heat return to both her face and her hind quarters, she decided it was best to leave them be and go downstairs instead. After all, if this heat was coming back she now had the tools necessary to deal with it on her own, even if she did want to ask Celestia to be the one to help out again. For now she would check on Spike and see what was going on with him.

He was downstairs and drinking some coffee and eating some peanut butter toast. "Morning, Twi."

"Morning, Spike." Twilight greeted as she poured herself a cup of coffee and noticed a piece of toast already made for her. This one with butter and jam just the way she liked it. "Aww, thank you."

"No problem, someone has to cook for you. The last time you tried you nearly burnt down Sugar Cube Corner."

"I can make toast."

"If you count making an entire kitchen toast then I guess you're right ha!"

"Hmm..."

The pair shared a small laugh at that as Twilight returned to her chair and sat down. Just as her rump was about to land on her favorite chair, a golden flash of light filled the room and she sat down on a soft snow-white lap... Twilight looked up to see Celestia grinning down at her. Dark blue lipstick had been smooched over her lips, cheeks, and neck. "Thought you could take your chair back that easily huh? Nay, I claim this chair as part of the Solar Cake Empire. But you may have permission to come aboard."

Twilight let out a sigh of defeat. She was never getting her chair back was she...

Spike laughed. "Cake is right, HA!"

Celestia purred. "Did you want to try some of my cake, Spike? Twilight seems to love it." His entire face went bright red and he quickly took his piece of toast and coffee and absconded. Celestia shrugged. "Guess he's not ready yet."

Twilight looked back up at her. "You made a cake?"

"Oh Twilight, I'm going to hate it when you stop being so innocent and sweet."

Twilight frowned as she stared at the lipstick all over her mentor's face and neck. "Celestia, I have a question."

"Yes, dear?"

"I don't remember kissing you this morning..."

"You could have in your sleep."

"And I don't wear blue lipstick."
