Queen of Trauma
The new me
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI woke up in Canterlot, the morning sun casting long shadows over the cobblestone streets.
"Go back to where you came from, job stealer!" shouted a pony as they passed by.
I didn't react. I'm used to it by now. Ponies gawked at me like I was some kind of alicorn. Their stares burned, but I ignored them, pressing on.
As I passed a shop window, I caught my reflection in the glass. I wasn’t myself. A zebra stared back.
Before I could fully process it, a bird swooped down, dropping a scroll at my hooves. I carefully picked it up, unrolling it with clumsy hooves. The familiar script sent a jolt of recognition through me:
Emberlune to Star
I’ve granted you some magic to alter your form. I know you didn’t ask for this, but trust me—it’s important.
Celestara is furious right now, but don’t worry; she’ll calm down. Eventually.
I don’t understand why you’re so afraid of the royal sisters, but it’s time to face those fears.
There’s a job fair at Canterlot Castle today, open to all creatures—zebras, dragons, and more if the program goes well. Raven Inkwell’s idea, of course.
You should attend. If you don’t go willingly, I’ll teleport you straight to Celestia myself.
your chance to get over being scared.
Before I could react, the letter burst into ash, scattering in the breeze.
I did my best shop after shop. The scene felt surreal as the unicorns surrounded the zebra. Their faces were twisted in disdain, and their horns flared with magic. The air was thick with hostility as they hurled mud at the poor creature, their laughter ringing out in cruel harmony. I felt a rush of anger bubble up in me, but I knew I couldn't let it show. Not here. Not now.
I stepped closer to the scene, my eyes narrowing as the unicorns jeered. My hooves moved almost on their own, carrying me toward the group with an intent I couldn’t quite grasp.
"Hey!" I called out, my voice startling me as much as the unicorns. "Leave her alone!"
The unicorns froze, their eyes flicking to me in surprise. I wasn’t sure what I expected to happen next—whether they'd laugh at me, ignore me, or maybe even attack. But something shifted in the air. There was a tension, a flicker of something, as if the world was holding its breath.
One of the unicorns, a tall mare with a silver mane, sneered. "And what are you going to do about it? You're just another freak. A zebra pretending to be something you're not."
"The same way you all buy your clothes to make you feel better about yourselves," I said, voice steady, but sharp. "You wear your fancy outfits to fit in, to make yourselves feel superior. Me? I wear what I have. Just like you wear what you have. It doesn’t change who I am."
The unicorn blinked, her sneer faltering for a moment. The other unicorns around her shifted uncomfortably, and I could see the cracks in their confidence.
I didn’t stop. “You think the clothes, the labels, the things you surround yourself with, make you better than me? You think that’s what defines you?” I stepped forward, my voice growing stronger with each word. "Newsflash—clothes don’t make the pony. They just hide what’s inside. So go ahead, wear your fancy things. But I’m not pretending to be something I’m not. I’m just here."
The words hung in the air, and the crowd fell silent. The unicorns seemed to hesitate, the edge of their mockery blunted. I could feel the shift, the change. They were no longer so sure of themselves.
The silver-maned unicorn’s sneer remained, but there was a flicker of doubt in her eyes. "Whatever," she muttered, turning her head as she led the others away, their confidence broken.
I watched them leave, standing tall despite the awkwardness that lingered in my chest. I wasn’t just standing up for the zebra anymore—I was standing up for myself, too.
When I glanced at the zebra, she met my eyes, her expression softer. Thank you she said.
"Please tell me you know where the castle is," I say.
"You got the job offer," she said, her smile wide and proud.
Before I could answer, she wrapped her arms around me in a tight hug.
"Don’t worry, I have a map," she assured me, grabing a folded piece of paper from her bag with her mouth.
"Thank goodness," I say, relieved.
"What’s your name?" I ask, curious.
"Ellwood," she responds, her tone casual.
"But you may have heard of me as Ellwood," she adds, with a wink.
"Let me guess, Ella?" I say, narrowing my eyes playfully. "And you're bisexual?"
Ella looks at me, surprised. "How do you know?"
I used to know a friend by that name I say blushing.
"What is your name?" Ella asked, her eyes curious.
"I'm Star," I say, shrugging. "I know, it’s basic."
She smiles, her expression softening. "Come on, Star. Let's use the map to get to the castle."
Ella poked the map with her hoof, her eyes scanning it carefully. "Are you sure this is the right way?" she asked, her tone a bit uncertain. The map fluttered in the breeze, almost as if it was teasing us with its secrets.
I glanced at the map, then back at her. "Pretty sure," I replied, tapping the spot where the castle was marked. "But if we end up in the middle of nowhere, at least we'll have an adventure."
Ella raised an eyebrow, amused. "I suppose you're right. Just make sure that adventure doesn't end with us getting lost in the woods."
I chuckled. "We'll be fine. Just follow the map, and we'll get there in no time."
We both started walking again, the journey ahead feeling a little more exciting with Ella by my side.
As we continued along the path, we soon found ourselves walking past bustling shops, the air filled with the sounds of ponies haggling, laughing, and shouting. I could smell the fresh bread and sweet pastries wafting out from a bakery nearby, and the colorful signs of various stores flashed by. But something felt off.
From the corners of my eyes, I saw a group of ponies standing by a shop, sneering at us. One of them yelled a slur, making my ears twitch. I ignored it, but Ella’s expression darkened.
"Ignore them," she whispered to me, her voice steady but with a hint of annoyance. "Some ponies can be cruel. They're just asses."
I nodded, trying not to let it bother me, but I could feel the heat rise to my cheeks. It was hard to ignore the harsh words being thrown our way. They weren’t just calling us names; there was something more behind their tone, something ugly.
"Let’s just keep moving," Ella said, sensing my discomfort. She walked a little closer, her presence reassuring. "The castle’s the real prize, not these ponies."
I took a deep breath, and we continued walking, determined not to let their words spoil our adventure. The clamor of the town faded as we left the shops behind, heading into the quieter parts of the countryside. But the memory of the cruel remarks lingered, gnawing at me.
Ella noticed my silence. "Don’t let them get to you. You’re better than that."
I managed a small smile. "Thanks, Ella. I’ll be fine."
As the road ahead grew quieter, the tension eased, and I found myself focusing on the task at hand again. The map was guiding us through the rolling hills now, and the castle loomed ever closer.
"State your purpose," said the guard, his eyes sharp as he stood in front of the massive iron gates of the castle.
"Job opportunity," I say, keeping my voice steady despite the tension in the air.
The guard narrowed his eyes, clearly skeptical, but before he could respond, a voice rang out from behind him.
"Stand down, guard," said a firm, commanding voice.
Raven Inkwell appeared, her dark cloak billowing behind her as she approached. Her presence was immediately commanding, and the guard stepped aside without question, bowing his head slightly.
"You must be the ones I've been expecting," Raven continued, her eyes scanning us both. "Come with me. I’ll take you to the others."
Ella and I exchanged a glance, and without hesitation, we followed Raven through the gates.
As Raven opens the door, a soft creak resonates through the room, and the air thickens with anticipation. The sight that greets her is both striking and surreal: five zebras and five dragons stand in a circle, waiting.
The Young Zebra
Among them is a young zebra who immediately captures Raven’s attention. Her sleek white coat glows in the light, adorned with vibrant blue stripes that run in dynamic, bold patterns across her body. The stripes are bright and vivid, standing in stark contrast against her pristine white fur, making her appear both powerful and graceful. The blue is mesmerizing, an almost electric hue that seems to shimmer as she moves.
Her mane is a fiery blend of yellow and orange, the colors flowing in soft waves like the warmth of a sunset. The fiery tones of her mane add an element of energy to her appearance, balancing the coolness of her blue stripes. The combination of colors is mesmerizing, radiating both warmth and strength.
Excitedly, the young zebra bounds around the room, her joyful energy bubbling over. Her movements are full of life, each leap full of uncontained excitement. She seems almost weightless as she jumps, her hooves barely touching the ground before she springs back up again. Yet, despite her boundless energy, she is mindful of those around her, making sure not to accidentally strike anyone with the swishing of her tail. Her movements are graceful, like a dancer carefully choreographing each motion, careful of her surroundings but never letting her joy dim. her brother I think? Was asking her to stop jumping. he said it qutiety.he zebra with a soft, white coat that serves as a perfect backdrop for his striking orange-red stripes. The stripes are vibrant, bold, and fluid, wrapping around his body in a natural yet dynamic pattern, giving him a unique and fiery look. His coat contrasts beautifully with the warmth of the orange-red hues, creating a striking balance of colors that speak of energy and potential.
His mane is a mixture of orange and red, a fiery blend that tumbles down in soft waves. The color gives off a warm, almost glowing effect under sunlight, further enhancing his appearance. However, his mane often falls slightly messily over his eyes, as if he is too distracted by his own thoughts to keep it neat. Please stop Rhyla he said.okay fine she said and stoped jumping. the third zebra stunning light green coat that sets her apart from the usual zebra hues. The green is soft and serene, like the calm after a storm, and it blends perfectly with her natural elegance. Her body is marked with dark, bold stripes that wrap around her like a work of art, contrasting against her soft green coat. These stripes are deep and dark, grounding her appearance in a sense of strength and stability.
She has a white patch on her tummy, a subtle yet striking contrast against the green of her coat, adding a touch of lightness to her overall look. Her muzzle is also dark, framing her face with an intense, almost mysterious aura. The dark muzzle complements her dark stripes, adding depth to her features and creating a sense of balance.
her eyes reflect a calm and composed nature. There is a quiet wisdom in her gaze, a gentle strength that comes from within.
Ella is a zebra with a striking and unique appearance. Her coat is a soft, mussel green, a pale yet rich shade that gives her an almost ethereal look. The mussel green hue is complemented by darker brown stripes that run across her body, sharp and bold against the soft green, creating a beautiful contrast. These stripes are more subtle in their pattern, but they give her an air of sophistication and quiet strength.
Her mane is a deep, dark brown, thick and flowing with natural waves that give her an almost regal appearance. The deep brown contrasts against her lighter green coat, adding a touch of boldness to her overall look. The dark brown color of her mane also deepens the expressive nature of her face, giving her eyes a focused and determined look.
Ella’s eyes are a warm amber color, with a sharp, intelligent gaze that conveys both thoughtfulness and confidence. She moves gracefully, with a quiet elegance, her body language calm but strong—each step purposeful, yet fluid. Shed
probally beat up any dragon if theyed have a problem with me or her.
This dragon is a striking sight to behold. His scales are a deep, fiery red, each one shimmering with an almost molten intensity. The color of his scales gives him a fierce, intimidating presence, glowing under any light with a fiery warmth. His body is muscular, with a long, sinewy tail and strong limbs, adding to his imposing stature.
His eyes are a brilliant shade of green, glowing with an otherworldly intensity. They are sharp, intelligent, and filled with a mischievous gleam—one that seems to look right through you, calculating and assessing. His gaze holds an unsettling power, as if he sees more than just what is on the surface.
The dragon's mane is pure black, cascading down from his head, sharp and jagged, almost like the shadow of a storm cloud. His black back spikes extend down his spine, rigid and imposing, adding an extra layer of menace to his appearance. These spikes seem to be as hard as stone, sharp as obsidian, and they emphasize the power coursing through his body.
His horns are a striking yellow, their vibrant color standing in stark contrast to the rest of his dark features. They curve back elegantly from his head, almost like a crown, adding a regal yet dangerous quality to his image.
This dragon has an air of arrogance and self-assuredness. He is smirking as he observes you, his expression one of quiet amusement, like he knows something you don’t. His attitude hints at a dangerous, calculating nature—one that sees others as challenges to be conquered or trophies to be claimed. His smirk seems to suggest he sees me as a prize, a victory waiting to be won great I thought.
The other dragon was qutie the oppsite dragon has a unique and captivating appearance, with smooth, grey scales that give his body a sleek, almost metallic look. The grey is deep and rich, highlighting his strength and elegance. His belly features a bright yellow patch, which adds a cheerful contrast to his overall muted tones. The yellow patch on his tummy gives him a more approachable look, softening his imposing dragon form.
His wings are a beautiful blend of grey and yellow, with the yellow highlights making his wings appear almost like a work of art, bright and eye-catching. The wings are strong and capable of impressive flight, but the mix of colors makes them look more playful than intimidating.
His tail is adorned with pink spikes, jagged but not overly threatening, lending a touch of quirkiness to his appearance. The pink contrasts nicely with the grey of his tail, adding a pop of color to his form.
The dragon's horns are a bold yellow, curving gracefully from his head, with their bright color making him appear less fearsome and more playful. His claws are also yellow, sharp but not menacing, giving him a somewhat comical yet still powerful look.
His green eyes are the most inviting part of him. Though they are sharp and perceptive, they have a warmth and kindness to them that seems to say he's not all menace and danger. His gaze gives off a friendly, somewhat goofy vibe—like someone who might be more mischievous than threatening, and perhaps a little more down-to-earth than one would expect from a dragon.
This dragon’s appearance is striking, unusual, and captivating all at once. His scales are a deep shade of grey, giving his body a sleek and somewhat metallic look. However, the contrast comes from his vibrant blue accents that add life and vibrancy to his form. His wings are a stunning shade of blue, large and strong, with membranes that shimmer in the light. The blue seems to radiate from his body, creating an almost ethereal glow when he moves.
he sall me looking at him.
It is allright he said this is how I normal look he said my name is neon black he said offering a claw i took it and shook hoofs.
Im star i say.
nice to meet you neon black said.
Then new dragon came in This dragon's appearance is one of striking contrast and undeniable power. His scales are a deep, glossy black, creating an aura of strength and mystery that radiates from his form. The sleek black is occasionally interrupted by dark purple accents, especially around his horns and wings, adding depth to his dark appearance. His horns are a rich, dark purple, curving from his head in elegant yet intimidating arcs, each one a symbol of his regal presence.
On his tummy lies a soft, light purple patch, a stark contrast to the surrounding darkness. This light purple patch gives him a gentler, almost mystical quality, hinting at a side of him that is not as fierce as his outer appearance suggests.
A glowing blue gem sits upon his forehead, catching the light with a soft, magical glow. It seems to hum with power, its presence commanding attention while also adding to his enigmatic allure. The gem could symbolize something deeper—a source of his magical abilities or a connection to a greater force or purpose.
His eyes are an intense, mesmerizing purple. They pierce through the darkness, filled with a mix of ancient wisdom and a strangely unsettling predatory gleam. These eyes seem to see everything, calculating and aware, with an air of mystery that makes you question whether they’re filled with kindness—or something more sinister.
His claws are a soft, light purple, but don’t let their delicate appearance fool you—these claws are sharp and lethal, able to cut through almost anything with ease. His wings, a blend of black and dark purple, are vast and powerful. When unfurled, they give him an imposing silhouette, making him appear both majestic and terrifying. The colors of his wings seem to blend with the shadows, as if he’s a creature who moves unseen in the night, only revealing himself when he chooses to do so.
This dragon is a complex mix of calculating intelligence and dangerous allure. His gaze alone suggests that he is no ordinary creature—there’s a sense of power about him that is as much psychological as it is physical. He sees the world as a game of power and control, where those who are worthy can become allies or rewards. Unfortunately for you, he views me as something to be claimed—something of value, perhaps a prize to be won. I'm I that pretty I thought.
He did not even apologize for being late. His smirk remained as he eyed the group, his posture exuding a kind of nonchalance that irritated Raven. But she said nothing, instead focusing on the task at hand.
“All right, hold still,” Raven commanded. Her voice was calm yet authoritative as she prepared to cast the spell. She raised her horn, and it glowed with a soft, pulsing light, the arcane energy swirling around her.
As the light intensified, Raven’s horn flashed brightly. There was a soft, almost musical hum as the spell took form, and the air around them shimmered for a moment. A wave of warmth spread across everyone in the room.
“This spell will help the guards identify you as maids and not intruders,” Raven said, her tone serious as she observed the effects of her magic. She glanced at each of them, making sure the spell had been cast properly. The magic would cloak them in a subtle aura, one that would mark them as harmless servants rather than potential threats.
The dragon, still standing in the corner with that cocky smirk, didn’t seem phased by the spell, though there was a flicker of curiosity in his purple eyes. He wasn’t one to be easily fooled, but for now, Raven’s magic seemed to do the trick.
“I hope this works,” Raven muttered under her breath, though she knew there was no turning back now.
“Relax, Raven,” the dragon said, his voice smooth, almost mocking. “It’s just a spell. It’s not like it’s going to change anything.”
Raven shot him a quick glare but said nothing. They had their role to play, and if the spell worked as intended, they would move forward—no questions asked.
