“Maybe I should sleep in a cave,” I thought, glancing around the darkening forest. I was new to this world and felt out of place, particularly after what had just happened. Somehow, without warning, I’d turned from an alicorn into a unicorn. I felt the absence of my wings keenly, a sudden loss of my alicorn form’s comforting strength.

My heart raced as I wondered aloud, “How do I return to my alicorn state?”

Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes and focused on the feeling of flight, imagining the weight of wings on my back. Then, in a flicker of energy, I felt a surge run through me. I opened my eyes and saw a glimmer of magic surrounding me—my wings had returned! I was an alicorn once more. I breathed a sigh of relief, marveling at the magic within me that I barely understood.

Curious about my appearance, I felt my flank with my tail, sensing the edges of my cutie mark. To my surprise, it was a three-dimensional star, intricate and detailed, shining softly with an inner light. I gasped, feeling a sense of pride and excitement.

“Oh my, it’s a star cutie mark! A three-dimensional one, too,” I said with amazement. After a moment’s thought, I decided, “I’ll call myself Lucky Star! Just like the song!” I giggled, the thrill of a new name adding a spring to my step.

Deciding it was too risky to stay out in the open, I looked back into the forest. “Well, back to the woods,” I murmured, stepping a few paces deeper among the trees. The Everfree Forest was dim and mysterious, filled with shadows and sounds that kept me alert.

Suddenly, the silence shattered as I heard a low, menacing growl from behind. Turning slowly, my heart dropped as I came face-to-face with a Timberwolf. Its green eyes glowed with a wild hunger, its wooden limbs creaking with every slight movement.

Panic surged through me, and I instinctively took a step back. But before I could turn to run, two more Timberwolves appeared, circling me. I was surrounded.

“Wings, wings!” I stammered, trying to concentrate on my alicorn form. But fear clouded my mind, making it impossible to focus. My voice rose, almost a shriek. “Help! Help!”

The Timberwolves advanced, their growls deep and menacing, eyes gleaming as they closed in. I tried to call upon my magic, envisioning a spell, anything that could get me out of this. I fired off a few frantic bolts of energy, but each one missed, shooting into the forest and hitting nothing. My heart pounded in my chest, my legs shaking as the Timberwolves loomed closer.

Just when it felt like I was about to be overwhelmed, a thundering roar broke through the forest. The Timberwolves paused, their ears twitching, and I turned in the direction of the sound. Mr. Manticore, the same one who had helped me find my way earlier, burst onto the scene, followed by a few other manticores. His eyes flashed with determination, his powerful limbs rippling as he faced down the Timberwolves.

With a mighty roar, Mr. Manticore charged at the Timberwolves, his pack following close behind. The Timberwolves hesitated, their instincts flaring in response to the fiercer predators before them. One by one, they backed away, growling and snarling, until they finally turned tail and slinked back into the forest shadows.

Breathless and trembling, I watched as the Timberwolves disappeared. Relief flooded over me, and I could hardly believe I was still standing. I looked at Mr. Manticore, bewildered but deeply grateful.

“How did you know it was me?” I asked aloud, almost to myself, as the manticore stepped closer, sniffing the air around me.

“Sniff, sniff,” he replied, nudging me gently with his nose.

I chuckled, feeling a warm wave of relief. “You remember my smell, don’t you?” I asked with a soft smile. “Thank you, Mr. Manticore! I owe you so much.”

Mr. Manticore grunted in a friendly sort of way and sat back, his tail swishing lightly as he regarded me with what seemed like curiosity. I hesitated, looking around at the unfamiliar forest.
