Indigo's First Sleepover/A Howling Good Breakfast

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

The stakes had never been higher.

Dracula finally convinced Shaggy to finally be in the Monster Road Rally, but at a very risky price.

If Shaggy won the race, Dracula would change Shaggy back to normal and send him, Googie, Scooby, Scrappy and their Equestrian friends home, as well as give Indigo the chance to return to her clan.

But if Shaggy lost the race... there was going to be a very good chance that they were going to be trapped in Transylvania forever.

Indigo felt to blame for what had been going on, but now that she was involved in the deal, she felt even worse than before.

She didn't want to bother her new friends with this, so there was only one other option...

...sneak out in the middle of the night, without anyone seeing, of course, and tell her clan about the latest developments unfolding at the castle.

“Seriously?!” Heather blurt out as soon as Indigo finished explaining the situation. “There's a chance that you could go free?!”

“Indy, that's amazing!” Draven exclaimed with a smile. “Why are you so down and out about that?”

“Because I never asked them to, and now that they have? The stakes are even higher than they were before!” Indigo said with concern. “If they don't win the race, we could all be stuck in Transylvania forever! And... I can't have you guys wait for me for the rest of our lives. It wouldn't be fair to you.”

“Indigo... let me ask you something,” Cyrus said, putting his paws on her shoulders. “Do you have faith in these guys?”

“Well, we just met,” Indigo hesitated a bit, “but... yeah. I do have faith in them.”

“Then keep that faith alive-- if you do that, there's no way you can go wrong!”

Indigo sighed and turned to her friends, who were smiling at her encouragingly. “I sure hope you guys are right. Come on... we might as well play one game of SkyBall before I have to get back to the castle.”

After a game of SkyBall with her best friends, Indigo returned to the palace to prepare herself for the day ahead... no matter how much she dreaded thinking about it.

When she entered one of the bedroom windows, the others were getting ready to have a good night of rest, and Izzy turned to face her. “Hi, Indy-Windy! Where have you been?”

“Oh, I just went to go see my clan before everyone shut down for the night,” Indigo said with a soft smile. “They have faith that you guys will win the race and set us all free, and don’t get me wrong-- I do too, but… the race is always pretty complicated, and I don’t want anyone else to get hurt.”

“Hey, don’t you worry about us,” Hitch said, wrapping a hoof around her. “We’ll be just fine… as long as we have each other.”

“Hey, that actually gives me another idea!” Pipp said, flapping her wings and fluttering over. “Why don’t you sleep over with us tonight?”

“A sleepover? Wow… I’ve never been invited to a sleepover before! Especially with new friends I just met,” Indigo smiled faintly. “But… I wouldn’t wanna impose…”

“Nah, you wouldn't be imposing at all!” Scrappy brushed it off. “We’d love to have ya!”

“Well… if you guys really want me to, then… I’d love to sleep over!” Indigo smiled. “But… I have no idea what goes on at one of these things, and I don’t really know how to act.”

“Trust me-- I had that problem before too,” Misty said. “But don’t worry-- we can show you how!”

And so, the ponies and all their friends began to lead Indigo in a song to show her the best way to have a sleepover, with all kinds of different activities.

Pipp: Call my ponies up 'cause we're 'bout to get down, like

Ponies: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Izzy: Got our manes up in our favorite gowns like

Ponies: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Oh, oh, oh, oh, whoa-oh

Oh yeah, we're havin' the best night

Finally, the song was over, and everyone was on their backs, laughing from all the fun they were having...

...especially Indigo herself. “Thanks, guys… I never knew having a sleepover could be so much fun!”

“And just you wait!” Zipp said. “As long as we’re here for the race, we can show you all the other cool stuff we do!”

Indigo’s eyes widened. “You do more fun stuff? Really?!”

“Sure! We can show you tomorrow, but first… let’s get to the sleeping part of the sleepover,” Sunny giggled. “No doubt Dracula will be waking us early tomorrow.”

Indigo had never slept so soundly since she had been taken in as a slave... and the sleepover was some of the most fun she's had in...

...well, even Indigo wasn't sure how long it was since she had something so enjoyable happen to her.

All she hoped was that Dracula never found out how much fun she had, otherwise she and her friends might get in even bigger trouble.

By the time that next morning arrived, a monster bird perched on the roof of the castle and let out a rooster-like crow, causing the group to immediately sit up, surprised.

“Yikes!!”

“Huh?!”

“What was that?!”

All of a sudden, Dracula poofed into the room, causing Misty and Scooby to scream, and Shaggy to leap into Scooby’s paws. “The sun is up!” Dracula summoned with a grin. “Rise and shine-y!”

“Hey, wait a second,” Zipp said, noticing something off. “I always thought that you had to stay out of the daylight!

“That's right, I did. But no more. Now I wear sunblock,” Dracula said before getting out a bottle of sunscreen. “This is number 5022!”

That’s when he noticed Indigo hiding behind Izzy and Sunny. “What is she doing in here?”

“Well… sir…” Indigo gulped. “The thing is… uh…”

“She was in here watching us all night, making sure she didn’t try anything,” Sunny spoke up. “Right, Indigo?”

“Huh? Oh, yeah! That’s what I was doing!” Indigo nodded at this statement with a smile. “Just… doing my normal duty, sir!”

Dracula seemed satisfied with such a response, smiling at this. “Well, now that that’s out of the way,” he said, “how about some breakfast?”

Sparky let out a gag at this. “No thanks,” Hitch said politely. “Uh-uh,” Googie shook her head. “We don't want any more of that yucky stuff like you had last night.”

“Oh, no! You will have anything you want. Anything except, ugh… angel food cake, that is,” Dracula said, getting out a phone from nearby. “All you have to do is call tomb service. When you are finished, I will show you the course you are going to race, Shaggy. Ciao!”

“Like, ciao is right!” Shaggy said before Dracula disappeared. “Tomb service? Huh…” Indigo muttered. “I never knew we had that before.”

“Well, let’s not take it for granted,” Zipp said. “Go ahead, Shagster.”

Shaggy nodded and lifted the phone up to talk into it. “Hello? Yeah.
Like, will you send up about three dozen flapjacks, please? And, uh, six side orders of peanut butter. A little bit of toast and jam and a couple of dozen of pickles.”

“Uh, don’t forget the fruit, please!” Sunny said. “I wanna make us a couple smoothies to go.”

“And some waffles,” Misty requested. “And maple syrup!” Scrappy added. “And,” Scooby spoke, “a double garden pizza!”

“Yeah? Did you get all that?” Shaggy asked the operator with a smile, who said that they did. “Ha ha! Great!”

“I just hope they get here soon,” said Hitch, holding Sparky. “It’s been a while since Sparky and I have eaten anything.”

Within just a few seconds of Hitch saying that, the Hunch Bunch rolled in a huge tray filled with all the food ordered, and it didn’t take long for Sparky, Scooby, Scrappy and Shaggy to start digging in.

Shaggy took a bite of bacon, immediately impressed with how well it was cooked. “Mm-mm! This stuff is terrific!”

“Ah, yes,” Brunch nodded. “And to think it's all fashioned from a special kind of beans.”

“Beans, huh?” Sunny looked a bit impressed herself when suddenly, Shaggy let forth a genuine werewolf howl, even surprising himself.

But then, with all the food they were eating, Shaggy, the dogs and Sparky began to howl non-stop, making Googie a bit concerned. “Hey, just what kind of beans are in this stuff?”

“Scream beans,” Brunch answered. “They grow wild in our torture chamber.”

“Scream beams?! Ugh, that’s awful!” Pipp said as she covered her ears with her hooves. “Yes, I quite agree, my dear,” Brunch said, covering his own ears before turning to Crunch. “I say, Crunch, remind me to tell chef his cooking is out of tune again!”

“Let’s just get the boys to stop howling first!” Indigo said to her friends over the howling. “Then I can take you down to where Dracula is waiting for us-- you guys have gotta get ready for the race, after all!”
