G5 Adventures in Scooby-Doo! and the Reluctant Werewolf
A Funny Car Race Reunion
Previous ChapterNext ChapterMisty had just put herself through a lot that day, building all the training equipment for her friends and then wearily taking part in the training.
This made her friends a bit worried, especially since they had a new Unity Quest mission.
What if Misty exhausted herself so much, she could get hurt? Or worse?
Putting these thoughts aside for now, the ponies knew that they would probably get the chance to talk to her later on.
Right now, they had to get started on their mission.

Soon as the ponies and their baby dragon companion stepped through the other side of the portal, they looked around their surroundings, which appeared to be in the middle of a busy city, which was home to a huge stadium that was not too far away. “I wonder where we’ve been sent and who we need to help this time,” Sunny said in thought. “Well, I’d say since we’re so close to that stadium,” said Zipp, pointing to it, “we should go there first.”
“Then let’s go!” Hitch said encouragingly with Sparky up on his back. “It sounds like there’s a lot of commotion going on in there, and it could mean bad news!”
That's when the six ran across the street and toward the stadium, finding a way to sneak in through the back where they couldn't be seen. When the Mane 6 eventually did make it inside the stadium, they were stunned to see cars of different varieties and sizes racing around and around a circular track, as if they were trying to pull ahead of the other ones using various gadgets and switches. “Oh man!” Zipp cried. “What is all this?”
“I think I heard Shaggy and Scooby tell me about this-- this must be a funny car race!” Pipp said with a smile. “These cars have loads of gadgets and equipment built inside, and they use all those gadgets to try and get in the lead and win the race.”
“Hey, let’s see if we can recognize anypony in the race,” Sunny said. “Maybe they’re the ones who need our help.”
“Maybe someone like… Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy?” Misty pointed to one specific car in the race… with Shaggy, Scooby and his nephew Scrappy inside. Coincidentally, that’s exactly who the announcer was talking about from the speakers. “Tyler County, USA. A funny-car race is in progress. A young driver named Shaggy maneuvers for the lead in his double-dyno turbo-blaster. Assisted by his faithful companions, Scooby-Doo and Scrappy, and cheered on by his adoring but liberated girlfriend Googie.”
“Shaggy’s got a girlfriend?” Pipp looked around. “Where?”
“Uh… I’d say the one with the pom-poms,” Izzy said, pointing out the short, blonde-haired teenage girl with the pom-poms, cheering Shaggy and his team on. “Go, Shaggy, go! Don't be a bust! Leave all the other guys in the dust! Yay, Shaggy!”
“Huh, for a girl we just now met,” Pipp commented, “I gotta admit… her rhyming is impressive!”
“Come on–- let’s find a better place to sit and watch the race,” Zipp told her friends with a grin. “After all, Shaggy and the boys are gonna need as much encouragement as anypony if they're gonna win this race!”

At the same time, Shaggy was trying to get past two of the other racers, but the gap between them was too small for the car to get through. Luckily, Shaggy had just the solution for that. “Okay, Scoob! Hit the skinny switch!”
Scooby barked and did as asked, lifting the car up and pushing the wheels closer together. “Coming through!” Scooby howled as Shaggy’s car zoomed out in front, prompting the crowd, including the Mane 6, to cheer wildly and Googie began another cheer herself. “Go, Shaggy, go! Keep up the pace! Go all the way and win the race! Yay!”
After another minute or so, another racer refused to let Shaggy out in front of him, and Scrappy, being the pup he was, wasn’t happy about such a thing. “Come on!” Scrappy shouted. “Get that bucket of scrap out of the way!”
“Scrap, huh?” the other racer challenged. “Well, chew on these scraps little big mouth!”
With one pull of a lever, the other driver sent trash pouring onto the team, which Shaggy quickly swerved to avoid. “Yikes! Like, it's time to split, guys. And I mean split!”
“Gotcha!” Scrappy barked with a smile and pulled a lever, splitting the car into two halves that went around the rude driver before coming back together once they were in front of him. The other driver was shocked, and as the crowd cheered once again, Googie let in one final chant. “Way to go, Shaggy! Give it the gun! You're gonna finish number one! Yay, Shaggy!”
“Only one car between Shaggy's car and victory,” the announcer told the fans as Shaggy got behind the final car ahead of him. “But wait, what's this? Oh, no! It's the steam-powered grease-grinder! It looks hopeless for our heroes, but wait!”
“Okay, gang,” Shaggy said confidently. “Like, let’s do the drill bit!”
Scrappy pressed another button, prompting a drill bit to pop out of the car, which began to tunnel under the track to get ahead of the other car. “Hey, isn’t that cheating in some way?” Hitch asked in confusion. “I mean… no one else would allow this to happen… would they?”
“Well, in funny car races, anything can happen,” said Pipp with a shrug. “And usually anything is okay… especially when it gets you the win! Look!”
The ponies looked back and saw that Shaggy’s car had burst out of the ground in front of the other racer, and now was crossing the finish line!
The ponies cheered wildly for their friends as they took their victory lap around the track-- and once they were done, they HAD to go and congratulate them on such a thrilling, exciting win.

A few minutes later, after Shaggy finished his victory lap, he, Scooby and Scrappy got out of the car and approached Googie, who Shaggy took the trophy from before Googie gave Scooby a huge kiss on the cheek, causing the cowardly Great Dane to giggle amusingly.
This gave the ponies the perfect opportunity to approach. “Wow, Shaggy, you were terrific!” Misty smiled as the Mane 6 and Sparky came over. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a race like that one before!”
“Hey, it’s you guys! Ha ha! Like, we’d be wondering when we would be able to see you again!” Shaggy said as he, Scooby and Scrappy hugged their friends with smiles on their faces. “What have you been up to?”
“Oh, a little bit of everything,” Zipp casually admitted with a smile. “Fighting supervillains, getting rocketed off into space… that sorta thing.”
“But there’s one thing YOU haven’t told us about yet,” Pipp said, eyeing Googie with a mischievous grin. “Who is this lovely lady you’ve yet to introduce us to?”
“Oh, right! I forgot you guys haven't met. Googie, these are the ponies Scoob and me told you about a few weeks ago,” Shaggy introduced. “Gang, this is my girlfriend Googie. We hooked up a couple of weeks after you guys left at the college.”
“It’s so nice to meet you,” Googie said, shaking Sunny’s hoof. “Shaggy-kins talks about you all the time.”
“Shaggy-kins? Oh man, dude…” Zipp tried not to laugh. “She’s got you hooked, hasn’t she?”
“Please pay no attention to my sister. She doesn’t understand anything about romance yet,” Pipp said, glaring at Zipp before eventually turning to Googie. “It’s really nice to meet you too. Hey, why don’t we all go out to lunch to celebrate Shaggy’s totally pony-tastic win! I can get an interview with you for my live feed!”
“That sounds mega-fun, Pippster!” Scrappy said, eagerly hopping on her back. “Let’s go!”
Laughing, the group set off out of the stadium and to their dinner destination, unaware of what was to come in the next few days...
...a monstrous adventure that no one would be sure to forget... for better and for worse.
