Something Between Us

“Hitch, slow down!” Zipp yelled as she was being pulled on a wagon by Hitch, who was zooming through the halls of the palace.

“Zipp, you are about to give birth, I will not be slowing down till I get you to the hospital!” Hitch yelled back as he pushed the main doors of the palace open, once he saw the stairs, he taped his hooves on the ground and a vine grew from the spot he tapped on, which picked them up and placed them at the bottom of the stairs.

He continued to pull Zipp in the wagon across the city of Zephyr Heights, many of the ponies that saw them instantly bowed down and made way for the two.

“Hitch, please go back to the palace, you are being ridiculous!” Zipp yelled as she was starting to get sick due to all the movement.

“How am I being ridiculous, I am trying to take you to the hospital to give birth, what part of that is ridiculous!” He yelled back, turning a corner and seeing the building that was the “Zephyr Heights Hospital.”

“Because we have our own private hospital at the palace, have you forgotten!” At those words, Hitch instantly planted his hooves into the pavement and came to a screeching halt.

He was panting hard, sweat running down his coat as he looked back at Zipp, “Since when did we have our own private hospital…”

“You broke a leg trying to get me some cookies and we took you to it so that they may help you,” Zipp said as she winced, as she was starting to feel the pain already building up.

Two nurse ponies from the hospital came outside, confused at the sight of the two royal ponies, “W-will you want us to bring her in, it looks like it will be too late if we try to take her to the palace hospital at this point,” One of them said as they saw Zipp wincing hard.

“Just take me in already, why was that question even said, obviously it’s too late, so just take me in here now!” Zipp yelled, causing the two nurse ponies to go back in and bring out a gurney.

A unicorn nurse also came out and gently levitated Zipp onto it, which allowed for the other two to pull Zipp into the hospital.

An older nurse came out, she walked up to Hitch and placed a hoof on his shoulder, she laughed a little and spoke softly, “This reminds me of when Queen Haven was having Princes Philomena, her father did the exact same thing as you did, ran all the way over here, forgetting that they would have been just as good staying in the palace,”

She ushered him into the hospital. Hitch saw that four nurses were already calling their friends.

“Daddy, Is Mommy going to be ok?” Sparky asked.

Hitch instantly jumped as he heard him, he turned and saw that Sparky was at the door with Zoom next to him, “I’m sorry sir, but he was insistent on coming here with the two of you,”

“You’re ok, Zoom. Sparky please come here with me and yes, she will be fine, in fact, today will be the day you will be a big brother now,” Hitch said as he hugged Sparky.

At those words, Sparks’s eyes widened, “Really!” He yelled, catching the attention of some of the other ponies.

Hitch chuckled at his son’s reaction, giving him a pat on the head, “Yes, really, now go sit down in one of the other seats, this will take a while and I will have to be with your mother the entire time, so please listen to Zoom, I am being serious,”

“Ok, Daddy,” Sparky said as he went to take a seat next to Zoom.

“Zoom, you have full authority over Sparky, please make sure he doesn’t get into trouble,” Hitch spoke sternly to Zoom.

“Yes, Sir!” Zoom said as he gave Hitch a salute.

“Hello, this is the Zephyr Heights Hospital, am I speaking with Princess Pipp? Oh ok good, I wanted to call you to tell you that Princess Zipp is about to give birth…” The yell was clearly audible over the phone, other nurses looked up to see what happened. “Y-you can come to visit her at the hospital, not the royal private one, but the one that you were born in, Princess,” As she hung up another nurse started another call

“Hello, this is the Zephyr Heights Hospital, am I speaking with Sunny Starscout? Oh ok good, I wanted to call you to tell you that Princess Zipp is about to give birth… Ok, ok, ok, well we will be waiting for your arrival.” As he hung up another nurse started another call.

“Hello, this is the Zephyr Heights Hospital, am I speaking to Misty Bightdawn? Oh ok good, I wanted to call you to tell you that Princess Zipp is about to give birth… Ok, well that is good to know, we will be waiting for your arrival,” As she hung up, another nurse started another call.

“Hello this is the Zephyr Heights Hospital, am I speaking to Izzy Moonbow? Oh ok good, I wanted to call to tell you that Princess Zipp is about to give birth… Oh, that is great, we will be expecting your arrival," he said as he hung up. With all the calls being made, all of them put up their phones with the one that had her ear screamed into going to get her ear checked out while the others went back to work.

An hour later, Zipp was already slowly giving birth, Hitch was with her the entire time, one of his hooves was badly bruised and the other was being held tightly by Zipp.

“This is all your fault, you hear me, why did you do this to me!” Zipp yelled as she squeezed Hitch’s hoof even tighter.

“Y-y-you, w-we-were the one that decided to stop, t-taking, y-your birth control!…” Hitch winced, trying his best to fight the pain, but his wife’s grip was way too strong, as the pain won and he fainted.

“You idiot, wake up!” Zipp yelled as she saw Hitch’s body go limp.

Suddenly a massive crash reverberated throughout the hospital, ponies could be heard screaming and yelling, dust flew everywhere outside completely obscuring the view from the doors.

A minute passed and everything went quiet, a nurse pony slowly walked to the front door, and as soon as he was going to open them, suddenly six ponies burst through the door, flinging the poor nurse pony a few feet away.

“Where is our daughter!?” Yelled both Queen Haven and Alphabittle.

“Where is our Sister!?” Yelled both Pipp and Misty.

“Where is Hitch!? Yelled both Sunny and Izzy.

The other four instantly looked at Sunny and Izzy, their faces were a mix of anger and confusion.

“Oh, Zipp already has you four to worry about her, but no pony even mentioned Hitch,” Izzy said proudly.

The pony that was flung with a shaky hoof pointed at the door labeled “Delivery Room” in bright red letters, soon two other nurses went to aid the poor pony.

“Sorry,” Sunny said as she saw what they did.

“Ahhhhhhhhhh,” Zipp’s scream was clearly audible from behind the doors, which gave everypony enough evidence to say for sure that she was, in fact, behind those doors.

The six ponies started to run to the doors, but another nurse ran and placed himself right in front of the doors, “Sorry, but only the spouse of the pony giving birth may be in there,” he said.

“That is my daughter in there, as Queen, I demand to be let in,” Queen Haven said proudly, “Oh, and please do also let her friends in too.”

“I’m sorry, but rules are rules, even royalty can’t be above them here,” The nurse said sternly.

On the other side of the doors, Zipp was crying hard, her hoof was still grasping Hitch’s tightly, she was having a hard time staying conscious, she had already fainted three times, but woke up immediately due to the pain she was going through.

“You can all wait out here with that guard and dragon,” The nurse said as he pointed to Sparky and Zoom.

The ponies begrudgingly went to sit where they were instructed, frustrated that they were not able to be with Zipp and Hitch at this moment.

Two and a half hours had passed, Hitch was trying his best to not faint a fifth time, and Zipp was already unable to keep on going, but as soon as she was about to faint for the eighth time, a cry sounded throughout the room.

Zipp’s vision was completely clouded over, all she was able to hear were mumbles, she then soon felt something being placed on her chest, she tried to look down and once she was able to, she wasn’t able to keep herself from crying.

On her arms was a healthy earth pony foal, he was a pale yellow with a white diamond on his forehead, he has a light green mane with light pink and blue streaks on the top, his fur went from the pale yellow to a light silver going down to his hooves which were a brilliant silver.

Hitch kissed Zipp on her forehead and gently leaned his head on hers, facing his son, a few tears ran down his own eyes and he didn’t know if it was because he was happy that his son was finally born or because his hooves were in a massive amount of pain.

“He’s perfect…” Zipp said as she leaned down and kissed him.

The foal instantly stopped crying as he felt his mother’s kiss, falling asleep in her arms once he fully calmed down.

“What should we name him?” Hitch asked as he patted his head gently.

“I’m thinking, Shining Star,” She said as she softly placed her forehead on the foal’s, “My little Shiny Star.”

“Sounds perfect to me, Honey,” Hitch said as he hugged her, wincing a little due to the pain in his hooves.

A few hours later, Zipp was in a room with Hitch. She was sleeping soundly as Shining Star was a little lower down on the bed feeding from her.

Softly the doors opened and in came six familiar ponies and a small dragon.

“Hey Hitch, hey Zipp,” Sunny said as she walked in, “How are the two of you?”

“That looks really bad,” Izzy said as she pointed at Hitch’s hooves which were wrapped in bandages.

“Just some bruising, nothing serious,” He said softly, “And please keep it down, Zipp really needs to rest, she has been through a lot.”

Yawning a little, Hitch got up from his chair and walked outside. The six ponies followed him and closed the door softly so as to not disturb the two.

“Tomorrow you will be able to see him, but right now, I need to go get some rest,” Hitch said as he yawned again.

“Oh, it’s a foal, what’s his name?” Pipp asked as she pointed her phone to his face.

Hitch just placed a hoof on her phone and brought it down, “Please Pipp, tomorrow, ok?”

“Oh, alright, tomorrow it is,” she said as she rolled her eyes in a teasing manner.

With that, the eight of them turned to leave, leaving the newborn and his mother alone.

Zipp has a massive smile on her face as she sleeps, she never expected for her life to be like this, but she didn’t want it any other way. The bonds she built with her friends, family, and her husband is incredible, she loves it, she loves where she is right now, she loves her new family and her friends.
