It was a normal day in the city of Canterlot, the sun was shining wonderfully and illuminated the Canterlot High building.

Inside there were several students walking through its immense hallways, but a huge group of them were paying their attention to a kind of poster stuck on the wall, which said the following: BATTLE OF THE BANDS.

“AWESOME,” shouted a girl with blue skin and rainbow hair, she was Rainbow Dash.

“Yes, it's about time, it's finally the day of the battle of the bands,” shouted a girl with pink skin and poffy pink hair, she was Pinkie Pie.

“Darling, don't shout so much,” a girl with white skin and purple hair, Rairity, told them.

“Rarity is right, but I don't deny that it's exciting,” added a girl with purple skin and blue hair with a pink streak, Twilight Sparkle.

“We won the last time, but we don't have to trust ourselves, we have to rehearse very well, what do you say Fluttershy?” asked an orange skinned girl with freckles and blonde hair, as well as wearing a cowboy hat, Applejack.

“Yay,” a girl with yellow skin and long pink hair, Fluttershy, responded weakly.

“Then let's not waste any more time, we have to be prepared,” a girl with yellow skin and red hair with yellow stripes, the leader of the band, Sunset Shimmer, told them.

While they were leaving the place, a young boy with purple skin and green hair looked sadly at the poster, that boy was Spike, Twilight Sparkle's little brother, who also wanted to participate in the battle of the bands, but lacked any musical talent, unable to do anything else, he lowered his head and decided to leave the place.

But without knowing it, 2 other boys were watching him, one had gray skin and black hair combed back, the other boy had brown skin and reddish hair as well as wearing a red cap, which they also watched, the first boy was just as downcast than Spike but the second boy was thoughtful.

At the Sparkle family house, Spike was in his room reading a Power Pony comic book, he was immersed in his reading, but a huge noise shook him out of his immersion.

“SHINE LIKE RAINBOWS.”

Spike looked out the window and noticed that his sister and her friends were rehearsing in the yard of the house.

They had a band known as the Rainbooms, and the entire town considered them extremely talented, Sunset Shimmer and Rainbow Dash played guitar, Applejack played bass, Fluttershy played tambourine, Rarity played keytar, Pinkie Pie played drums, and Twilight Sparkle sang.

In addition to having won the previous battle of the bands, they also uploaded their songs on the Internet, whose videos had thousands of views.

Feeling frustrated and a little envious, Spike closed his window in an attempt to minimize the noise, that was until someone knocked on his door.

“Sweetie, you're there,” a female voice was heard.

Spike got up and opened the door, behind her was her mother, Twilight Velvet, a woman of about 40 years old who had gray skin and purple hair with white stripes, “Yes mom?”

Velvet smiled at him, “There are 2 young boys who want to see you.”

Spike didn't know what she was referring to, but behind her were the 2 boys who were watching him at Canterlot High, “Rumble? Button Mash?”

“Hi Spike,” the two of them greeted him at the same time.

“Hi,” Spike greeted them out of inertia and chivalry.

“Spike, you didn't tell me you had friends,” Velvet told him, smiling.

And at that moment the 3 boys remained silent upon hearing that, certainly the 3 of them got along very well at school, but they had never seen each other outside of it, this was the first time that they went to his house, even so, they had never called each other friends, not even Button and Rumble had considered each other friends.

To break that awkward silence Spike decided to act, “Yes hehe, sorry, it was something very recent.”

Velvet smiled while Spike invited Rumble and Button into his room, “You may come in.”

The two nodded and entered, “With your permission.”

Already in his room, Button Mash was the first to speak, “I don't know how you dared to lie to your mother, are you crazy?”

“Hey, I wouldn't know you were coming, what I was going to tell her, I'm just as confused,” Spike responded.

“He has a point,” Rumble added, “We came here without calling him, at least he save the awkward situation, anyway, I think you want to know why we're here.”

Spike nodded to which Button Mash continued, “It's about the battle of the bands.”

Spike raised an eyebrow.

“We saw you, you looked at the sign with a sad face,” Rumble told him.

“Whoa whoa, wait,” said Spike whose face had been turned red, “Sad I don't think is the right expression.”

“Dude, you literally had the same face that Noble Six fans make in their last battle,” Button told him.

“Grrr,” Spike growled as he hung his head in shame.

“Anyway, we also want to participate, but we're missing a singer,” Rumble told him.

That caught Spike's interest.

“The thing is, we don't stand out much at Canterlot High,” Button Mash told him, “Rumble may be very good at soccer, but he's cruelly overshadowed by the sisters Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo.”

“It wasn't necessary to add that,” Rumble said to Button, then he turned to Spike, “But it's true, we want a little fame too, we deserve it, as selfish as it may sound.”

Spike thought about it for a moment, then remembered everything his sister had and he didn't.

“I don't think that's selfish, and if it is then I'll be damned,” Spike told them, smiling.

“So, do you want to form a band with us?” they asked.

“Let's do it,” Spike responded cheerfully.

“YEAH,” the 3 of them raised their arms in the air, excited for what was to come.

The joy and excitement lasted very little.

“Ahh, this doesn't sound good,” Rumble said, trying to play his guitar unsuccessfully.

“Why this thing makes different sounds?” Button Mash said while playing the drums terribly.

“You dont know how to play instruments?” Spike asked them while holding a microphone, they were rehearsing in their garage, “Did you want to enter the battle of the bands without knowing how to play guitar or drums?”

“I didn't think it was that hard to learn how to play a guitar,” Rumble responded.

“My video games made it look extremely easy, I'm an expert in Guitar Hero,” Button Mash added.

“I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I don't think this will turn out well,” Spike told them, “I agreed to be your singer since I can't play any musical instrument either, but I don't think we'll get very far, in fact I think Snips and Snails surpass us.”

The three of them lowered their heads discouraged, but after a few seconds, an idea seemed to occur to Button Mash.

“Wait, I think I have a great idea,” Button told them, then he looked around to make sure that no one else was listening to them, at which point he approached them to whisper something to them.

Hearing what Button proposed, Rumble didn't know how to feel, but Spike was the first to speak, "Button, that's the stupidest idea I've ever heard."

“Stupider than your big idea from a year ago, dressing up as Humdrum and trying to beat up the school bullies?” Button Mash answered with another question.

“Ok, good point, but we can't do that anyway, it's dishonest,” Spike said.

“Well, it's not like we're lip-syncing, technically it would all be true if no one looks under the rug,” Rumble added.

“Don't tell me you're okay with this, Rumble,” Spike was surprised, “Hey, I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be part of…”

But he was interrupted when he heard the voices of his sister and friends, “Alright Rainbooms, let's crush everything.”

“RAINBOOMS,” the 7 yelled at the same time from the yard as Spike watched them.

“You know what, let's do it,” Spike told them with a determined attitude.

“I think they changed your mind, do you really want to beat the Rainbooms so bad?” Rumble asked him.

“You have no idea,” Spike replied, “But that's not the case, even if I refuse you will do it anyway, so if you go to hell, let me accompany you.”

Rumble and Button Mash smiled.

“I think we'll need a name for our band,” Button Mash told him.

The 3 thought for several seconds until Spike suggested something.

“It might sound very childish and cliché, but I've always admired dragons, so what if the name of our band is, Dragon Scale?”

“Dragon Scale,” Rumble said, “Sounds good.”

“I like it, it's very cool,” Button Mash added.

“Alright, then let's give it our all,” Spike told them as he extended his hand.

They put their hands together and raised them to the sky shouting their band's name, “Let's go Dragon Scale.”

The day of the battle of the bands arrived, where students gathered to participate in that great musical event on the Canterlot High football field.

The Dragon Scale band had arrived at the place and with outfits that distinguished them, Spike, Rumble and Button Mash wore a black leather jacket, Spike's jacket had green flames painted on the sides, Rumble's had 2 wings painted on the back , while the Button Mash one had 2 buttons, one green and one red painted on the left side and a kind of crosshair on the right side.

And they had also used face paint since Spike had drawn a dragon claw on his right cheek and had painted a large fang near his mouth, Rumble had painted lightnings coming out of his eyes and Button had painted some kind of x-shaped mask.

“Spike,” they heard some voices, the 3 boys turned around and saw the Rainbooms, who were wearing their band outfits, very bright dresses and shirts, some colored glasses and also some face paint, Twilight Sparkle approached them.

“Spike, what are you doing here?” Twilight asked him.

“Competing in the battle of the bands, what else would we do?” Spike answered with another question.

Upon hearing that, Twilight saw Rumble and Button behind Spike, seeing that they were wearing similar outfits, she assumed that they were part of his band.

“Wow, I didn't expect you to compete,” Twilight told him.

“Yes, because we thought you didn't know how to play any instrument,” Rainbow Dash told him.

“Rainbow,” Applejack scolded.

“That was very cruel,” Fluttershy added.

“It's okay, you can think what you want about us,” Spike told them calmly.

That made the girls raise an eyebrow surprised that Spike didn't respond to Rainbow Dash's provocation.

“Wow, that was very mature,” said Sunset Shimmer.

“I'm not done yet,” Spike told her.

“Yes, what we want to let you know that we…” Rumble said but then at that moment, Spike, Rumble and Button Mash said the following at the same time.

“WE WILL OVERCOME YOU.”

That statement took the girls by surprise, it almost seemed like a threat.

“Spike, are you okay?” Twilight Sparkle asked him.

“Why wouldn't I be, I feel like a million bucks, but anyway we already lost a lot of time, I wish you luck,” Spike said as he and Rumble left.

“Yes, we wish you luck because you're really going to need it,” Button Mash told them as he left as well.

“Oh no, what happened to our Spikey Wikey,” Rarity said sadly.

“This was supposed to be fun,” Pinkie Pie added sadly.

“I don't know what's happening to them, but let's not let it get to us,” Sunset Shimmer told them.

“Sunset is right, when this is all over we can ask Spike what's really happening to him,” Twilight Sparkle added to which the other girls nodded.

The battle of the bands began, there were good bands like Trixie and the illusions.

“You better believe I got tricks up my sleeve.”

The talented singing of the Crusaders.

“We are the Cutie Mark Crusaders.”

And other unique talents in the best term were MCSnipsSnails.

“Yeah we are Snips and Snails.”

It was the turn of the Rainbooms, who gave their best song.

“SHINE LIKE RAINBOWS.”

After the Rainbooms finished their song, the entire place was filled with applause and shouts of encouragement from the spectators, certainly the Rainbooms were in the lead once again.

“And now, the last but not least band, Dragon Scale,” said Principal Celestia.

“This is their first show, but I'm sure they will surprise us,” added Vice Principal Luna.

Backstage, Spike, Rumble and Button Mash were ready, this time in addition to singing, Spike had a guitar too, Rumble had another guitar and Button Mash was on drums.

They looked a little nervous, but willing to give it their all.

“Are you sure this will work, Button?” Spike asked.

Button nodded, then Rumble spoke to him, “Don't worry, nobody is going to notice, besides I'm sure the song Button chose will captivate the audience.”

“Game music always captivates the audience,” Button said as he took out a kind of remote control, when he pressed a button, the curtain that separated them from the audience began to rise, the lights went out and other lights of various colors were turned on. in a visual spectacle.

The curtain had risen, revealing the band, to which Spike spoke into the microphone.

“HELLO PUBLIC, WE ARE DRAGON SCALE, AND WE ARE GOING TO SURPRISE YOU TONIGHT,” Spike shouted then turned to Button Mash, “BUTTON, START.”

Button Mash nodded and started on his drums.

Rumble continued with a confident smile and began to play his guitar.

That's when Spike started following Rumble and Button playing his guitar and after a few seconds he started singing.

“Take off at the speed of sound
Bright lights and colors all around
I'm running wild, livin' fast and free
Got no regrets inside of me.”

Needless to say, the beginning did surprise the public.

“What an interesting song,” said Twilight Sparkle, who had moved closer to hear her little brother better.

Spike continued singing and playing his guitar at the same time.

“Not lookingin' back
Not givin' up
Not letting go
“I’ll keep on running.”

The principals listened with attention and joy.

“Where have I heard that song before?” Celestia wondered.

“Wait a minute, I know where,” Luna responded excitedly.

And that's when Spike sang his heart out.

“I'm gonna reach for the stars.”

“The song is from a video game which I really like,” Luna said with emotion acting like a teenager to which Celestia rolled her eyes.

The boys had finished their song, at that moment after a silence of 5 seconds which made them worried, murmurs were heard and that was when the entire stage began to applaud, praise and encourage the new band.

“No way,” Spike said excitedly, “It worked.”

The place was still full of applause, even Spike could see Twilight applauding him, which made him smile as he wiped away a tear that was coming out of his eye.

“I think we have the winning band,” Celestia announced.

“Which is Dragon Scale,” Luna announced.

“We won, we won guys,” said Button Mash who was crying with joy.

“Yes, you're right, we did it,” Spike responded with tears of joy.

“Hey, don't cry, we won,” Rumble told them, who couldn't hide his tears.

“You are crying too.”

The 3 of them simply put their hands together, they had worked as a team and they had achieved it, but not only that, they had made friends among themselves.
