A Moonlit Embrace

Night had gently fallen over the castle, and the library, now calm, was filled only with the occasional sound of the outside wind. Twilight and Sombra had spent the day together, sharing snacks and discussing topics that went beyond books and spells. The atmosphere in the library was peaceful and cozy, a contrast to the tension they had felt earlier.

When it was time to sleep, Twilight had prepared a corner of the library with pillows and blankets. The softness of the moonlight coming through the windows created a serene ambiance. Sombra had settled into a corner, visibly tired but still struggling to relax.

Twilight was getting ready to lie down at the other end of the makeshift bed. As she adjusted the blankets, she looked over at Sombra with a gentle smile.

“Is everything okay, Sombra?” she asked in a calm tone, trying to check if he was comfortable.

Sombra looked at her with a weary grimace and gave a weak smile. As he watched her, he couldn’t help but question why he felt so disturbed by the idea of leaving. All these feelings bubbling inside him were quite annoying. How could a simple goodbye feel so complicated? All of this confused and unsettled him more than he wanted to admit.

“Yes, everything’s fine. It’s just… I’m not used to being so relaxed,” Sombra admitted, stretching his legs a bit. It had only been the two of them so far, and maybe that’s why he felt so attached to her. As the saying goes, two mice together will love each other until death. Perhaps that was what was happening to him. “By the way, aren’t your friends taking too long on their missions?”

Twilight looked up at him, realizing that it was true: her friends were taking longer than usual. It was almost a week since they had left. Although deep down she was grateful for the extra time with Sombra, she knew that her friends' return was inevitable.

“Yes, I guess they’ve had complications,” Twilight said, trying to sound casual while her mind was revolving around the imminent farewell. “But if they needed help, they would let me know… I hope.”

Sombra looked at her with a mix of concern and understanding, sensing that there was more in her tone than just worry for her friends. The atmosphere between them grew charged with a palpable tension, a mix of emotions that neither of them wanted to fully face at that moment.

Silence returned to fill the library, broken only by the occasional rustle of the blankets and their soft breathing. Twilight settled into her spot, feeling a bit more at ease.

Suddenly, Sombra, in the midst of a restless sleep, moved closer to Twilight and, without realizing it, wrapped her in a soft embrace.

Twilight was surprised to feel the warmth of his body close to hers. Her first impulse was to tense up, but she soon realized how comforting the proximity was.

“Sombra…” she murmured, still half-asleep. “What are you doing?”

Sombra, still in the realm of dreams, mumbled something unintelligible before tightening the embrace slightly, seeking the warmth and comfort he found in her closeness.

Twilight, feeling the warmth of his embrace and the rhythm of his breathing, gradually relaxed, feeling the tension fade away.

“This… is nice,” she said softly, almost to herself. Her thoughts tangled in a sea of emotions, and she wished the moment would never end.

Sombra, still drowsy, murmured:

“Twilight…”

Twilight blushed, surprised that Sombra was calling her by her name even in his semi-conscious state. What a scoundrel! Was he dreaming about her? The idea that he might be thinking of her while asleep filled her with curiosity and excitement. But why? Could it be that Sombra felt something for her? Her expression of longing intensified, but then she shook her head. It couldn’t be that he was talking about her, could it? Perhaps he was referring to the other Twilight?

She made a grimace of annoyance at the thought. She had never imagined she would feel jealous of herself. Her mind returned to the idea of the other Twilight. She had never managed to get many details from Sombra about his alternate version, only that she was… strange? Well, maybe she was also strange in her own way.

“What’s happening to me?” Twilight murmured to herself, still wrapped in Sombra’s warm embrace.

She could no longer deny it. The truth hit her with overwhelming clarity: she no longer wanted to be just his friend. She felt something deeper for him, something that went beyond simple friendship.

The problem now was how to handle these new feelings, especially given the context of their current situation.
