Sombra struggled between sleep and wakefulness, with palpable confusion. He had dreamed about her, he was screaming internally. It was such a vivid and peculiar dream: they were at a picnic, surrounded by simple and natural happiness, but in a place he didn’t recognize. It wasn’t his world, but it wasn’t completely unfamiliar either. Twilight was smiling at him with a warmth he had only wished to receive from her, embracing her and... well, the dream cut off abruptly at that point.
When he awoke, he found himself actually holding her, and for a moment, he almost thought he was still dreaming. The reality of having Twilight so close surprised and confused him. The warmth of her body and the gentle beat of her heart made him question whether he was dreaming or if this connection was real.
The temptation to hold her even tighter was strong, but Sombra stopped himself, aware that he was crossing a line. The boundary between dream and reality was blurring, and his feelings for Twilight were becoming increasingly complicated.
Sombra felt on the brink of madness, a state he had never experienced before and which frankly terrified him. These feelings, which he didn’t fully understand, were pushing him to his limits.
The uncertainty and the daily proximity to her kept him in a constant state of emotional confusion. Almost a week had passed since he arrived at the Rainbow Castle, as he called it, captive in a place that wasn’t his home but had begun to feel like one, and Twilight still hadn’t found a way to send him back to his world, even though he continued to question why he didn’t feel such a rush to leave.
He approached her, feeling a whirlwind of emotions as he tried to deal with the complicated reality of his situation.
Each day in the castle seemed to intensify his feelings, making him question what he truly wanted and needed.
“So, how’s the research on the spell to send me back to my dimension going?” Sombra asked, his tone revealing a mix of curiosity and anxiety.
Twilight flinched slightly, as if she had just woken from a dream. Her expression showed surprise and a bit of discomfort. In fact, she had been so immersed in conversations and Sombra’s company that she had completely forgotten about her research.
“Oh, um...” Twilight said, blinking as she tried to regain her train of thought. “Well... I haven’t made as much progress as I hoped.”
The alicorn realized she was lying again, and it pained her a little to do so. She was supposed to tell him the truth today, but it never seemed to be the right time.
Every time she thought about the situation, it felt like the perfect moment would never come. The pressure of her feelings and the difficulty of finding the right words were overwhelming her. Her mind was torn between the urgency to be honest and the fear of possible consequences.
Sombra looked at her with an arched eyebrow, puzzled by her evasive demeanor.
“I guess it’s time for Plan B, huh?” he said, his tone indicating a mix of certainty.
Twilight looked up at him, confused.
“P-Plan B?” she stammered, not understanding what he was referring to.
“Yeah, don’t you remember? If you didn’t find a solution, you said you’d seek external help,” Sombra asserted confidently, though his tone concealed a desire to avoid facing the inevitable.
Twilight froze. The idea that Sombra was considering a Plan B made her feel a knot in her stomach. Was it so urgent for him to leave? After all, this wasn’t his home, and it made sense that he missed his world and everything he knew. Despite understanding this rationally, she couldn’t help but feel a pressure in her chest, a mix of anxiety and disappointment.
She knew she had to help him return to his dimension, but the idea that he was already considering a Plan B affected her more than she expected. She looked up quickly, her eyes filled with determination.
“Wait! I haven’t finished exploring all the options for the research. I just... need a little more time, can you give me that?” she said, almost desperately but trying to stay calm.
Sombra looked at her with a mixture of surprise and consideration, sensing the desperation in her voice and the intensity in her gaze. What’s happening to her? he thought, feeling a pang of doubt.
Perhaps he had pushed her too hard. The worry on her face revealed that the situation was affecting her more than he had anticipated.
He wondered if he had been too blunt in mentioning Plan B. Though his intention was clear, he hadn’t fully considered the emotional impact it might have on her.
Despite his own desire to return to his world, he couldn’t help but feel a little guilty for the distress he was causing.
“Alright,” he finally said, with a softer expression. “I’ll give you the time you need and I don’t want to pressure you. I just want to make sure you’re okay with continuing this…”
Twilight stared at him, her eyes reflecting a palpable pain she knew how to hide. She was aware that, from the beginning, this was the direction everything was meant to go.
However, the sadness she felt wasn’t just about the process itself, but about the impending loss of someone much more significant than just a friend. It wasn’t just a friend, but someone who had awakened deep and unknown feelings within her.
