In the library, the atmosphere was enveloped in an unusual calm, interrupted only by the soft rustle of pages and the occasional whisper of the wind coming through the open window.
Sombra was reclined in his armchair, his gaze fixed on the book in his hooves, but his mind was clearly elsewhere. His thoughts kept him occupied, and his contemplative expression did not do justice to the tranquility that seemed to reign in the library.
Twilight, in contrast, appeared visibly nervous. She was using her magic to keep the book of spatial distortion hidden as she made her way slowly toward where Sombra was seated..
Her expression was a mix of anxiety and determination, and her heart was pounding in her chest. She had been agonizing over how to reveal the truth, but the moment always seemed to escape her. However, this time she was determined to do it.
“Sombra, there’s something I need to tell you,” Twilight said, her voice trembling slightly as she tried to keep a calm tone.
Sombra, noticing the change in Twilight’s tone, raised an eyebrow and smiled with a playful smirk.
“Oh? Something serious?” he said, his tone filled with humor. “Are you going to confess that you’ve been feeding me bricks?”
Twilight, hearing the joke, tried to smile, but the seriousness on her face didn’t fade. The concern in her eyes was evident, and Sombra’s joke only increased her nervousness.
“It’s not a joke,” Twilight said, her voice trembling a little. “It’s something important…”
Sombra, seeing the sad expression on Twilight’s face, stopped smiling and sat up in his chair, concerned.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, his tone now serious. “Are you okay?”
Twilight opened her mouth to speak, clearly about to reveal the secret of the book, when suddenly the library door burst open. A group of ponies entered the room, chatting animatedly among themselves. Rainbow Dash, Rarity, and Applejack were conversing.
“You wouldn’t believe how hard it was to find that ingredient!” Rainbow Dash said as she entered, not noticing Twilight or Sombra.
“Yeah, and don’t get me started on the time it took to fix that mess in the gem cave,” Applejack replied.
“How could it be so difficult?” Rarity complained.
Suddenly, Rainbow Dash stopped and, looking forward, saw Sombra sitting in the armchair with Twilight beside him. The conversation came to a screeching halt, and the group fell silent, staring at the shadow king.
“Girls!” Twilight said, startled to see her friends.
“King Sombra?!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed, surprised and wide-eyed.
“Uh, this is…” Twilight stammered, unsure of how to introduce Sombra.
Sombra, for his part, stood up from the armchair, feeling the tension in the air. His eyes met those of the newly arrived ponies, and his expression changed from surprise to a diplomatic smile.
It was an unexpected and complicated moment, and both Twilight and Sombra found themselves caught in a situation they hadn’t even anticipated.
The silence in the library was interrupted only by the sound of a book falling to the floor.
The library was plunged into an awkward silence as the ponies looked at Sombra with a mix of surprise and distrust. Rainbow Dash, with her wings spread and an expression of disbelief, took a step forward, and the tension in the air became palpable.
“How did the shadow king come back from the dead?!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed, her voice filled with alarm. She approached Twilight with a defensive stance. “And what is he doing here?! You need to stay away from him!”
Sombra raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised by the hostile reaction. He turned to Twilight with a worried look.
“What’s going on?” he asked, trying to stay calm while looking at the ponies. “Do I need to be worried about this too?”
Twilight quickly stood up, stepping between Sombra and her friends, trying to defuse the situation.
“No, no, wait!” Twilight said urgently. “He’s not King Sombra! He’s not the one you know!”
Twilight’s friends stood frozen, staring at Sombra, and confusion became evident on their faces.
“What?” Applejack said, her eyes wide open. “Then who is he?”
Sombra, with a friendly smile, tried to ease the atmosphere.
“Hi…” he said in a friendly tone.
The group remained silent, unsure of how to react. Twilight sighed, relieved to have at least stopped the confrontation, though she now had to face the inevitable questions.
Rainbow Dash, with curiosity replacing her tension, stepped forward and asked.
“Is he from another dimension?”
Twilight nodded, relieved that Rainbow had taken the first step in understanding the situation.
“Yes, exactly. He’s here due to a magical accident in my lab, and he’s trying to find a way back to his world.”
Rarity furrowed her brow, confused.
“Is it like what happened with Sunset Shimmer?” she asked, recalling the experience with the mirror princess.
“Something like that,” Twilight confirmed. “Sombra comes from a different world, and we’re working to find a solution.”
Twilight’s friends exchanged looks of astonishment and relief as they began to process the new information. The tension in the library started to dissipate slowly, replaced by a sense of intrigue and curiosity. Though they were not entirely comfortable with him, they trusted their friend.
“I understand,” Applejack said, nodding slowly. “So, what can we do to help?”
