Wings and Words

King Sombra raised an eyebrow, clearly impressed by Twilight’s wings. He couldn’t take his eyes off how they moved or fluttered every time he approached, a clear sign of the pony’s nervousness.

Twilight, feeling the fixed gaze on her, turned around with a serious expression. Seeing her reaction, King Sombra felt an irresistible urge to keep provoking.

“An alicorn, huh…” he muttered, turning the situation around in his mind. “Are they real? Because, honestly, those things look… how should I put it? Slapped on at the last minute.”

Twilight huffed, offended.

“These wings are the symbol of my ascension as the Princess of Friendship. They’re not mere ‘extensions!’” she retorted, spreading her wings with pride.

King Sombra took a step back, placing a hoof on his chin, pretending to be thoughtful.

“Princess of Friendship, huh?” he murmured, trying not to laugh. “I didn’t know there was a crown for that. Is it made of papier-mâché?”

Twilight glared at him, and King Sombra let out a soft laugh, clearly enjoying the discomfort he was causing. The situation was reaching levels that were beginning to frustrate her. Not only did she have to deal with her crown, which she rarely wore, but now this unicorn seemed intent on making her day even more complicated.

“It’s not made of papier-mâché!” she exclaimed, feeling anger start to boil inside her. “It’s a very important title, and it has a deep meaning for all the ponies in Equestria. You can’t just mock it!”

King Sombra let out a soft laugh, clearly enjoying the situation. It was more fun to tease this Twilight from this world than the one from his own.

“Oh, I’m sorry, Sparkle, I didn’t mean to offend Your Majesty, the Princess of Friendship,” he said, giving an exaggerated bow. “I must admit it’s a title that sounds… charmingly harmless. Does it come with any special powers? Like shooting friendship rays?”

Twilight looked at him, now more irritated than ever.

“It’s not that simple!” she protested, trying to maintain her composure. “The magic of friendship is much more powerful than you think. It has saved Equestria more times than I can count!”

King Sombra made a dramatic gesture with a hoof.

“Oh, of course! The fearsome magic of friendship,” he said, pretending to shiver. “I must admit I’m impressed, Sparkle. Out of all the powers in the world, you managed to master… friendship. Does that come with a rainbow cape?”

Twilight snorted, trying not to let frustration get the better of her.

“At least I have friends, something I can’t say about you, Sombra,” she shot back, crossing her forelegs. “Maybe if you had learned something about friendship, you wouldn’t be so… gloomy all the time.”

King Sombra looked at her with a false expression of surprise.

“Friends? Are those the little colorful beings that follow your orders?” he asked sarcastically. “No thanks, Sparkle. Who says I don’t have friends?”

Twilight rolled her eyes, exasperated.

“You know what? I’m not going to argue about this with you,” she said, raising a hoof to stop the conversation. “I need to find a way to get everything back to normal. I don’t have time for your… ‘jokes.’”

King Sombra smiled smugly.

“Oh, Sparkle,” King Sombra said with a mocking tone, leaning toward her with a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Who told you this isn’t normal? After all, if I’m really here, who’s to say your perception isn’t a little… distorted?”

He gave her a suggestive smile, his dark eyes sparkling with a mix of disdain and amusement.

“Maybe you’re the one dreaming, or maybe… just maybe… you’ve been living in your own altered version of reality. What do you think, Twilight?”

Twilight stared at him, noticing how her face slightly flushed at King Sombra’s unexpected proximity. Although she knew she shouldn’t trust him, King Sombra’s attitude made her doubt for a moment.

“Uh, get closer and I’ll…” she finally said with a resigned sigh. “Alright. But if you’re going to stay here, at least try not to cause any trouble. And stay away from my books… especially the restricted section.”

King Sombra smiled broadly.

“Don’t worry, Sparkle,” King Sombra said with a suggestive grin. “I’m only interested in the section on curses and dark enchantments. You can keep your rainbow and unicorn books. Although, if you ever tire of ‘friendship,’ I can always teach you something much more… interesting.”

Twilight blushed, irritated, and turned away with a frustrated gesture.

“I don’t need your lessons, Sombra!” she shouted, heading for the door. “I have more important things to do… like figuring out how to get you out of here before you start redecorating my castle with… with… shadows!”

King Sombra watched her leave, amused.

“Suit yourself, Sparkle. I’ll be in the library… trying not to read anything too adorable!” he shouted, laughing to himself.

Twilight quickened her pace, muttering to herself as she walked away.

“This is a disaster… a disaster…”
