Twilight sat in the library, surrounded by books and scattered notes across the table. Despite her deep immersion in the search for a solution to the dimensional rift, a feeling of guilt enveloped her.
She realized that although King Sombra hadn't done anything wrong since his arrival, she still harbored a constant distrust toward him.
Determined to clear her mind, she got up from her seat and walked into the hallway. What she found there was unexpected: King Sombra stood in front of a set of windows, with the light streaming in from outside casting a kaleidoscope of colors upon him, making his red eyes shine like freshly polished rubies.
Twilight was momentarily mesmerized, observing how the light reflected off King Sombra’s face, creating an almost magical atmosphere.
She was so absorbed in her thoughts and the image before her that she didn’t realize King Sombra had noticed her presence.
“Sparkle…” King Sombra said, breaking the spell of the scene.
Twilight approached, still absorbed in the windows. The glass was decorated with images of her friends in various heroic scenes.
“Are these your friends?” King Sombra asked, noticing the nostalgic expression on Twilight’s face.
She nodded, a touch of melancholy in her voice.
“Yes, they are. They are very special to me,” Twilight replied, feeling a pang of nostalgia as she looked at the images.
King Sombra regarded her with interest, his face showing an expression that wavered between curiosity and understanding.
Silence settled in, and Twilight, feeling uncomfortable, decided to break it.
“I’m sorry,” she said sincerely. “I’m sorry for not trusting you from the beginning. I know I have my reasons, but it’s not fair that I treated you this way when you haven’t done anything wrong.”
King Sombra looked at her with surprise, then lowered his head slightly, as if evaluating whether the apology was genuine or a trick.
“It’s alright,” he said in a serene tone. “It’s not the first time I’ve been suspected. I haven’t always been… good. There was a time when power nearly consumed me, but I found the right path.”
Twilight looked at him, surprised by the vulnerability in his voice. She hadn’t expected such a sincere confession from King Sombra.
“It’s hard to believe,” Twilight admitted.
Silence fell again after Twilight’s words, until Sombra unexpectedly burst into a laugh that startled her.
“What?” Twilight asked, looking at King Sombra in surprise.
“Well, I’m not surprised you find it hard to believe,” he said, smiling. “But I appreciate your honesty, at least.”
“Friends, then?” she asked, with a small smile, a bit of nervousness still present in her voice.
Sombra looked at her, surprised by the sincerity in her words. His expression softened, and for the first time in a long while, a genuine smile appeared on his face.
“Yes, friends,” he responded, with a warm tone.
Twilight smiled, feeling a mix of relief.
“Wow, and here I thought you just needed a good pillow,” Twilight said with a smile.
Sombra laughed lightly, a mix of gruff and amused.
“A good pillow? Any pillow would be better than the one you gave me.”
Twilight leaned a bit forward, observing Sombra’s amused expression.
“Isn’t that a bit dramatic?” Twilight asked with a teasing smile. “It’s just an old pillow.”
Sombra moved a little closer to her, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
“Well, at least it was better than sleeping on the floor,” he said, glancing back at the window with a playful tone.
He leaned a bit closer to Twilight, his presence growing increasingly near, and said in a voice brimming with suggestion:
“So, what do you think? Would you like to be my pillow?”
Twilight blushed intensely, surprised by the direct insinuation. For a moment, she was speechless, her mind trying to process the question as she turned her gaze toward the window, avoiding eye contact.
Sombra didn’t expect this reaction. He also blushed, feeling a bit embarrassed for crossing the line. He looked back at the window, trying to divert attention from the awkward moment.
Silence settled between them, both observing the landscape through the window. The filtered light created a play of colors that illuminated their faces, giving the moment a sense of calm and unexpected tension.
“Well, there’s not much to do with an old pillow,” Twilight said, trying to regain her composure. “But, anyway! Maybe… maybe I’ve found something in one of the books. I need to go back and review the notes.”
She turned around hurriedly but, in her haste, tripped over the velvet on the floor, stumbling.
“Uh… I’m fine!” she exclaimed, trying to stay calm as she got up and hurried out the door.
Sombra stood there, watching her with an amused smile as she walked away. When Twilight finally disappeared from view, he couldn’t help but murmur to himself:
“She's cute.”
Then, he turned back to the window, his face illuminated by the filtered light, enjoying the peaceful moment.
