The Story of Skaro

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

“Centuries ago, there was a planet known as Skaro. It was a beautiful planet with wonderful inhabitants.

“The planet was lush and the perfect plant to live on. The water was the cleanest in the universe. The food was some of the best that I’ve ever tasted.

“And the inhabitants themselves were a marvel to see too. Each held a power of an aspect of the nature and inhabitants of the planet. From the joy of the planes to the sorrow of those who died. There was someone how represented an aspect of nature or emotion.

“All of this was upheld until a war broke out with another planet. The people of Sakro, being a more peaceful people, didn’t have enough to defend themselves. Even with their powers, they didn’t stand a chance. They lost the war and Skaro went downhill.

“The weapons of the other planet used were made from a substance that leaves very harmful radiation. The shadow proclamation has since banned that type of weaponry, but it wasn’t in time to save Skaro.

“One member of the Skaro was able to rise through the ranks at this point due to the chaos of this point. His name was Davros. His power was hatred. In this time of fear, hatred of the rest of the universe was high, and Davros, being the embodiment of hatred, used this to his advantage.

“He used the citizens hate to turn them against the whole universe. He convinced them all to turn from their unique power to share his power of hate. They waged war against the universe. Davros created an armor for them all to use. He developed the armor to bring out the hatred and lust for killing in anyone who wore it. Every inhabitant wore the armor. Every one of them lost their identity and became warriors. Every one of them became Daleks.”

“Daleks?” Discord repeated curiously. “Didn’t you say those were the creatures that fought you in that war?”

The Doctor nodded.

“They all turned to Daleks. All of them... except one. There was one inhabitant that didn’t fall for Davros’ hatful charisma... a child. The child’s power was also affected by the changing of the Skaro, but unlike fueling the hate in Davros, it fueled an odd type of joy in the child. At the time, the child was only 4 or 5, but he was one of the biggest threats to Davros’ plan because he showed they didn’t have to be hateful and could rebuild.

“As one of the first acts of the Dalek empire, Davros ordered the child to be killed, and the brainwashed Daleks attempted to do just that. Luckily, somepony was able to stand in the way of this extermination. That pony was me. I was able to transport that child to a much safer planet.

“Unfortunately, that’s the last remaining inhabitant of Skaro, and the child was so young, he likely doesn’t remember his own home planet. All the other inhabitants were killed the moment they put on the Dalek armor.”

“What does this have to do with me and Screwball then?” Discord asked. “It’s an interesting story, sure, but you seem to be stalling as to why we shouldn’t just take the eye!”

The Doctor sighed. “Perhaps this will help you understand.” The Doctor grabbed the 3D glasses off his head with his hooves and presented them to Discord.

“Those things?” Discord questioned. “Yeah, I have my own pair too.” Discord showed his copy of the glasses. He put them on and waved his hand around his face. “It’s cool to see these particly things on my hands.”

“That’s the thing,” the Doctor said. “These glasses weren’t made to read just chaos particles.”

Discord put his hand down. “They weren’t?”

“No.”

“Then what were they made for?” Discord asked.

The Doctor looked away. “You know, the people of Skaro could create wonderous things. Their powers could create things that related to the emotion or aspect of nature they represented filled that radiated that thing, be it joy, sorrow, survival, what have you. The only one that couldn’t was hate. Hate couldn’t create anything. Hate could only destroy. Because of that, hate radiated from beings of hatred.

“With the Daleks being a big threat, it was commonplace to need something to warn of their arrival. The hate that radiated off them was so strong it could be seen for miles if given the right equipment. So these glasses were made to see the hatred of the Dalek. An unintended consequence of this was that it can pick up all radiation from the inhabitants of Skaro and their creations. Of course, this was mostly unknown because the inhabitants of Skaro were all gone. All except one.”

As Discord listened, his face shifted in realization, horror, sorrow, and seemingly every other emotion wrapped into one.

“Discord,” the Doctor started, “the child’s power was chaos. The chaos of Skaro had given the chaos filled child more power. Discord... you are the last child of Skaro.”

Discord’s eyes began to well with tears. “D-does that mean...” His voice trailed off.

“Yes Discord, the inhabitants of Skaro... were the draconequus people.”

Author's Note

Had some free time and decided to upload this chapter a day early, for those who don’t know, Skaro is a planet in Doctor Who, it was home to the Dalek, but I made up 90% of this lore for this version of the story.
