“Alright, it’s time,” Twilight said, the elixir in front of her.
She took a deep breath; she wasn’t sure what awaited her, but she knew she had to face it once and for all.
With a single motion, she lifted the container and began drinking the liquid. A shiver ran through her; it was even worse than Applejack’s medicine.
“Ugh, did it work?” she asked, noticing nothing was happening in the following minutes. “I guess I need to sleep first…”
Upon examining the small bottle again, Twilight noticed a tiny piece of paper stuck to it. She carefully removed it and read it:
“To uncover the hidden truth, this elixir you must taste. In dreams you'll find the answers, from them, you must not haste.”
“Does this mean I’ll be able to enter… his dreams?” she murmured to herself before yawning.
“I guess I… should try…” she whispered, before collapsing onto the floor and falling into a deep sleep.
Twilight opened her eyes, only to find herself in the same oppressive darkness that had become all too familiar. "Is this what home is supposed to feel like?" she thought bitterly, her voice a hollow echo in the void.
She walked for what seemed like an eternity, but the darkness remained unyielding, a vast and impenetrable expanse that swallowed her whole.
Frustration gnawed at her. Then, she decided to try something she hadn’t considered before: channeling the light of her magic. Her horn began to glow with a soft, pink radiance that cut through the dark, revealing a faint path.
"There you are," she murmured as she finally spotted a figure in the distance, lying still—a creature whose haunting presence had plagued her dreams.
"Let’s see what you’re hiding," she said, her voice trembling with a mix of determination and dread.
She approached and pressed her forehead against the creature’s. A sudden glow enveloped them both, casting eerie shadows that danced around them.
She opened her eyes again, her heart pounding in her chest. “Did it work? Had she managed to enter the creature’s dreams? How could she tell?” The space around her was vast and blank, an unsettling white void. Above, dark, twisted roots reached out like malevolent fingers, corrupting everything they touched. Though disturbing, she chose to ignore them; they weren’t her concern right now.
What mattered was finding him...
Normally, when we dream, we have this "dream body"—it's not a real body, but one we create to project ourselves in our dreams. So, if that thing's real body was in her dreams, then the creature should also have a dream body within its own. Was that what she needed to find to uncover the truth? Its true form?
In the distance, she saw a vague figure. As she drew closer, she realized it wasn’t the shadowy beast she had expected.
There he was, standing alone, devoid of his cloak and armor. King Sombra stood there, gazing into the void with an expression of deep emptiness.
Twilight’s breath caught in her throat; she could hardly believe her eyes.
Suddenly, he turned toward her, as if sensing her presence.
"Twilight..." he murmured softly, but she heard nothing.
Her worst fears had materialized before her, or perhaps everything she had believed was nothing more than an illusion—a cruel deception devised by that villain to shatter her, to mock her hopes and dreams.
Every moment she had shared with him—every tender touch, every heartfelt embrace—now felt like an unbearable weight. The thought that it had all been a lie made her body tremble uncontrollably.
She was paralyzed, unable to speak, unable to react.
"What are you doing here?" Sombra asked, his voice laced with surprise and confusion.
He had not anticipated finding her here, especially not with that expression of devastation on her face, as though she were confronted by a ghost.
The silence grew thick and oppressive, a heavy shroud that seemed to choke the air from the room, until Twilight broke it with a desperate plea.
"Why?"
That single word was enough to crack the facade of arrogance he had maintained.
He remained silent, his mouth closing tightly as if he were struggling to find the right words.
"I asked you, why?!" Twilight cried out, her voice rising in pitch, filled with desperation and anguish.
He looked away, as if the weight of his own guilt was too much to bear.
"What’s wrong? Now you don’t have the excuse that you can’t talk, right?" Her voice wavered, cracking under the strain of her unbearable pain.
The accusation hit him like a physical blow.
"Just tell me one thing, just one..." Her voice was barely a whisper, laden with torment. "Why?"
"I... I don’t know what you mean..."
"Enough lies! I demand to know! I need to know why you did this! Why you...!" The words choked in her throat, her gaze dropping to the floor, her face etched with the raw pain of betrayal.
"Why did all this happen? Was it to torment me? Was it revenge?" she continued, her eyes searching his face with a desperate hope for some explanation that might offer even a shred of satisfaction.
Sombra watched her, the anguish in her eyes clear. For a fleeting moment, a flicker of conflict appeared in his gaze, as though he was on the verge of confessing everything. But then he shook his head, his expression turning cold and dismissive.
"Did you really think there was any other reason?" he said with a frigid, contemptuous smile, the coldness in his voice cutting deeper than any blade.
to be continued.
