“This can’t be happening, can it?” she kept repeating, trying to hide the blush that kept rising to her face.
Yesterday, Twilight stumbled out of the bakery, her mind racing and her heart pounding. She leaned against the door of her home, trying to breathe and gather her thoughts; it was already midnight.
“This can’t be real,” she whispered to herself, trying to calm down and control the flush. “I can’t be feeling this for... He’s not even a pony!” she exclaimed.
She rested her head on the pillow, shouting internally. This definitely couldn’t be happening.
“It’s not like that... It’s just that... I’m so tired, yes, that must be it,” she murmured to herself.
That night, Twilight tossed and turned in bed, her thoughts racing as she tried to understand her new feelings. She had tried to rationalize it, telling herself it was just the result of exhaustion, but deep down she knew it was more than that.
“This is ridiculous,” she murmured aloud, burying her face in the pillow.
“It’s just... a nightmare, after all. No, I don’t even know what it is…”
Twilight continued tossing in bed, trying to clear her confused thoughts and emotions. However, every time she closed her eyes, the vivid images came back to torment her. Eventually, sleep overtook her.
“Alright, I’m here,” Twilight said, expecting to find the same dark place as always. But when she looked around, she was surprised.
“What?”
Instead of the familiar gloomy surroundings, she was in front of a vast starry sky. Not just the sky, but the entire space around her seemed like an immense blue canvas, dotted with thousands of bright stars.
“What is... happening?” she murmured, feeling as if she could levitate in the air and even touch the sky. In the distance, she spotted a familiar figure.
In the midst of this vast sky, there was a hill, and on the hill was him, lounging lazily like a cat, observing the wonders of the universe.
“Hey!” Twilight exclaimed, trying to approach. She propelled herself toward him with too much force, flying through and past him. However, with a swift movement, he caught her and brought her back to his side.
“Ah, thanks,” Twilight said, breathing heavily. “What is all this?” the unicorn asked, eagerly awaiting an answer.
The creature said nothing and didn’t look at her; it continued gazing at the starry sky. This frustrated Twilight, who decided to try something else to get his attention.
“Did you do this... for me?” she asked, hoping for some reaction. And she got it.
The being turned quickly, as if he had heard something incredible. He opened his mouth to excuse himself, but then stopped and turned his gaze away again.
“Don’t tell me... you really did this for me?” Twilight said, surprised. She hadn’t expected it to be true. “Come on, look at me.”
Despite her efforts, the being continued avoiding her gaze. Twilight got up and positioned herself in the direction he was looking, but no matter how much she moved, he always turned away.
“Is this how it’s going to be?” Twilight said, tired and frustrated. She was ignored.
Twilight sighed, exhausted and with an increasing desire to understand who this being was and why she saw him in her dreams.
“Why?” she asked, pacing in front of him, desperately trying to capture his attention. “Why can’t you just tell me who you are? Or what you are? Why do you do these things that only confuse me?” she said before giving up and sitting down with a sigh of frustration.
Silence filled the sky, only broken by the distant hum of the stars. He continued to look away, avoiding her gaze at all costs.
“Please...” Twilight tried again, her voice barely a whisper, “look at me…”
He kept avoiding her gaze, but this time he seemed to sense the plea in her voice. His expression softened slightly, as if he were struggling with himself. Slowly, very slowly, his eyes turned to face her.
For the first time, Twilight could see his eyes, shining like jewels in the darkness. They looked at her intently, scrutinizing her inside and out. The tension in the air was palpable; it felt as though they were about to cross an invisible line.
“Who are you?” the unicorn repeated, not breaking eye contact. Her gaze met his, and on an impulse, she extended a hoof toward him, not knowing what she was searching for but needing a touch of connection.
He didn’t move, but she could feel the soft warmth of his skin on her extremities, warming her own. It was a strange and pleasant sensation at the same time.
For a moment, they stayed like that, connected through that faint contact, but then he withdrew his hoof, leaving her empty and with a dry throat.
“Please, say something...” Twilight whispered, her hoof still extended toward him. He looked at her intensely for a few seconds.
Finally, with a slight hesitation, he raised his hoof and placed it under hers. It was so warm against hers.
Time seemed to freeze as their hooves touched, creating an electric connection between them that seemed as full of tension as it was of expectation.
“Are you real?” Twilight asked, her voice barely a whisper.
His touch sent sparks through her body, like a caress that went beyond the physical.
He didn’t answer, but his grip tightened slightly, a gesture that expressed more than words. His eyes stayed fixed on hers. He opened his mouth and moved his lips, but Twilight couldn’t make out what he was saying.
In an instant, everything began to fade, and she woke up, alone in her bed.
Twilight woke up with a jolt. Her heart was racing, and the vivid memory of those moments with him remained fresh in her mind.
She sat up in bed, confused and with a million questions racing through her head. She tried to process what had happened in the dream.
“Why are you doing this to me?” she whispered, talking to herself, feeling powerless in the face of the mysteries.
to be continued.
