Crystal, noticing Sonic’s distracted demeanor, reached out and gently touched his arm. “Sonic, you’ve been quiet all evening. Is everything alright?”

Before Sonic could respond, Crystal’s concern turned into action. With a sudden movement, she slapped Sonic lightly on the cheek. The unexpected contact snapped Sonic out of his troubled thoughts. He looked at her, a mix of confusion and annoyance in his eyes.

“Hey, what was that for?” Sonic asked, rubbing his cheek.

The team was breathless and disheveled. Sunset Shimmer managed to get out through gasps, “There was an attack… a black hedgehog… he’s causing chaos…”

Before Sunset could finish, a deafening explosion rocked the town square. Sonic’s heart raced as he recognized the familiar sound of chaos. Without a second thought, he grabbed Crystal’s hand and sped toward the source of the disturbance, his speed blurring the landscape around them.

Sonic arrived at the epicenter of the explosion to find the town square in disarray. The cobblestone streets were cracked, and debris was scattered everywhere. Amidst the chaos stood a figure—an imposing black hedgehog with red markings, crimson red eyes, gold rings on his wrists and ankles, a tuft of fur on his chest, and sleek air shoes.

The black hedgehog stood with an air of confidence and menace. He glanced around, seemingly unfazed by the destruction he had caused. His presence was commanding, and Sonic’s instincts told him this was not a mere coincidence.

Sonic, now fully alert and ready for action, approached the stranger with a determined glare. “Who are you, and what do you want?”

The black hedgehog turned his gaze to Sonic, his eyes narrowing with a mix of curiosity and challenge. “I’m Shadow. I’ve come to test my strength against you.”

Before Sonic could react further, Shadow vanished in a blur of red and reappeared behind Sonic. With a swift and powerful spin kick, Shadow struck Sonic with precision. Sonic was sent flying through the air and crashed into a nearby tree, spitting out a little blood from the force of the impact.

Crystal gasped in horror, rushing to Sonic’s side. Sonic shook off the dizziness, pushing himself up with a grimace. His determination was unwavering. He could see Shadow approaching, ready for another attack.

Sonic’s expression hardened. “You want a fight? You’ve got one!”

He rolled to his feet and immediately charged at Shadow, performing a Spin Dash attack. The momentum and speed behind the attack caught Shadow off guard, and he was propelled backward, slamming into the ground with a heavy thud.

Shadow quickly recovered, his eyes blazing with intensity. He leaped back to his feet and smirked, clearly enjoying the challenge. “Impressive. But don’t think it’ll be that easy.”

Sonic gritted his teeth, focusing on the battle ahead. “You’ve caused enough damage. I’m putting an end to this!”

The two hedgehogs clashed in the middle of the square, their movements a blur of speed and precision. Sonic used his agility and quick reflexes to dodge Shadow’s powerful attacks, retaliating with his own bursts of speed and strength. Sonic took a deep breath, his expression a mix of exhaustion and determination. “We had an unexpected visitor—Shadow. He attacked without warning, and we had to defend ourselves.”

Sunset Shimmer and the others nodded, their expressions thoughtful. “We need to figure out who he is and what his intentions are,” Sunset said. “But for now, let’s make sure everyone is okay and assess the damage.”

As the team began to clean up and tend to any injuries, Sonic glanced at Crystal, who looked both relieved and worried. “Are you okay?” he asked gently.

Crystal nodded, though her eyes were still wide with concern. “I’m fine. Just… worried about you.”

Sonic offered a reassuring smile. “I’m alright. Just a bit bruised. We’ll figure out what’s going on with Shadow and make sure our town is safe.”
