Chapter 1: A Treasure is worth a thousand words

In the Appaloosan Mines, two ponies trot through. One is a green coated pegasus with a rainbow mane and tail, an alternating red and blue scarf, with stockings that have orange, blue, and pink on them. "I thank you for coming Midnight, I was worried that I'd need help fighting the monsters in this place," she said to her friend.

Midnight had little in the way of color, black coat, black mane, black tail, with his bright purple eyes being the only thing that shows color. A set of changeling-like fangs poke out from his muzzle. Midnight carries a sword made from the blackest enchanted steel that he calls the Midnight Blade. "Not an issue, Flighty, remember you have a spear you can fight with if an Alura Une or Chupacabra gets in your path," he stated, knowing that Flighty just felt safer with him.

"Midnight... yes, I have it but I'm not as good of a fighter as you since you have that ability to hold your weapon in a hoof, I have to use my muzzle like all the rest..." Flighty stated as she and Midnight jumped over a bottomless pit, a sign of the changeling's becoming desperate, well... what remains of the ones loyal to Chrysalis, at least.

"And need I remind you that when I saved Equestria from falling to chaos when the Mane 6 disappeared like 2 or 3 years ago, I wasn't nearly as strong as I am now?" Midnight replied, chuckling at the fond memories of storming through the halls of Canterlot Castle and fighting monsters like the Siren Gem and Tatzlwurm(The latter of which Midnight would like to forget).

The two kept going deeper eventually finding the treasure, a small, no wait, tiny ball of gold. Midnight and Flighty blinked several times looking at it, wondering if their eyes were deceiving them.

"The hay... are we... to do... with that?" Midnight said, annoyed that he had to come here instead of making sure his pet cat, which wasn't actually a cat but rather a Shadow that decided to be Midnight's pet. "Buck it, I'm leaving, you're on your own, Flighty," he said as he teleported away without a biological horn on his head.

Flighty Spear sighed, she was alone. She sat on her hunches and grabbed a plush toy she kept on her mane. The plush toy was an exact replica of Midnight that somepony had hidden in a hidden room of the abandoned Castle of the Two Sisters. She wasn't sure why it was hidden there of all places, but it was.

Flighty felt safe with Midnight but... even she knew that this toy couldn't keep her safe... but she held it close to try and feel safe anyways. She always spoke to the toy, as if it listened, whenever she was alone and angered her best friend. And no matter what, the toy always made her feel as if, as long as it's with her, everything will be alright. Flighty didn't know how bad things with that plush could get because there was a reason to hide it.

Flighty smiled as she put the plush back where it deserved to be, on top of her mane, and grabbed the tiny ball of gold which... was still a disappointment. She slowly wandered out of the Appaloosan Mines to go back to Ponyville.

Inside Flighty's mind, a storm and plot was a-brewing. The spirit of the plush, a purple pony who was knowingly responsible for the Siren Gem existing and called himself Perfect Desposition stared at the memories Flighty had. "This pegasus is so idiotic and trusting. She just keeps opening more and more of her own mind to me... hehehehe, eventually... I'll gain the ability to completely replace her spirit like I des-" He was interrupted by the sound of a room shaking, "What the hay was that?" He said as he trotted to the room where it happened. And he found a literal treasure trove in Flighty's head.

"Does this stupid pegasus really only care about some stupid bucking treasure!?"

"Yes, she does," Perfect Desposition heard that voice, the voice of Midnight, and felt dread arise. "Perfect Desposition, if you even dare touch Flighty's soul, I will not hesitate to make sure you stay dead forever. Even if it means killing Flighty," Midnight threatened with an obvious distain in his voice as he vanished. Perfect Desposition is now slightly scared but his plan will still be executed.

Within Ponyville, a bat pony who has a bright blue coat and face mask, and his mane and tail were mostly black with a singular red streak in them and his eyes are a deep red. Beneath his mask he has a grey mark under one of his eyes that represents his special property... the "Curse of the Moon" which, despite the name, was a blessing as it gives the one with it powers no other bat pony has like the ability to turn into a bat or a cloud of mist. His name is Dusk. Nopony knows much about him as he keeps much of his life a secret except to his best friends, one of which being Midnight. His cutie mark also looked different based on which side you saw him from.

As he trotted through town, he found Flighty, "Hello Flighty, how are you?" Dusk asked Flighty who had the goofiest smile on.

"I'm great! How about you, Dusky?" Flighty asked, forgetting that only Lucky, a less physically and mentally abled earth pony, could call Dusk, Dusky.

"Eh, could be better. I'm guessing you came back from a treasure hunt."

"Yep yep! It was disappointing though... all it was was a tiny ball of gold," at saying that Flighty's smile did droop a bit which Dusk was upset by a bit.

"Eh, I'm sure that your next hunt will be ten times better," Dusk said with a smile that didn't try to betray how he actually felt. Shame that mask is up for the betterment of everyone.

Flighty looked at Dusk after he said that... and smiled full force again as she immediately went to gather information about the next treasure she could hunt for.
