My life in Equestria
The School of Magic
Load Full StoryNext ChapterToday, the world seemed to be ganging up against me. My alarm clock, a faithful companion of unpleasant surprises, did not ring. My eyelids opened abruptly, revealing a sun already high in the sky. A quick glance at the clock felt like an icy shower: I was terribly late. I felt a wave of panic wash over me, burning, tightening my chest to the point of taking my breath away. I sprang out of bed, grabbing my belongings in a frenzied whirlwind, trying to fight both the pressure of the passing hour and my feverish thoughts. There was no way I was going to miss today's class, especially with Twilight waiting for me... or, at least, who was hoping for me on time this time. We had this absurd bet going on: to arrive on time for once. It had become a kind of game between us, but each failure weighed on me a little more. Not just because of the gamble, but because I felt that, in a way, I needed to prove to him that I could be up to the task... at his level.
I ran down the stairs of the magic school, short of breath, my heart pounding. My hooves pounded on the ground, and every step sounded like an accusation. I was never ready, never perfectly in tune with what Twilight represented: rigor, discipline... excellence. But she... She remained there, always, with that look so understanding, so benevolent, that it sometimes made me dizzy. This bond, this friendship so strong, sometimes I didn't know what to do with it. Especially since I was the only one to have this privilege. Twilight never went to the other foals.
Finally, I arrived at the door of the classroom. With a trembling hoof, I pushed open the door and burst inside. All eyes instantly turned to me, their eyes filled with a mixture of curiosity and mockery. My gaze immediately sought Twilight, as if she were the only one who could calm this whirlwind that threatened to engulf me. And, as always, she was there. Her large violet eyes sparkled with a barely concealed gleam, and an amused smile floated on her lips. A smile that disarmed me every time.
"Mady! You're here!" she exclaimed with a burst in her voice that betrayed both surprise and amusement.
My heart raced a little more. It was crazy how a simple sentence from him could make me feel. I took a deep breath, trying to regain some composure, before sitting down next to her, almost stumbling in my own chair.
"Heh! I forbid you to laugh!" I said, out of breath, with a wry smile. But even I couldn't hide my amusement. His presence always reassured me, even in the worst moments.
Twilight stifled a chuckle behind her paw, her eyes narrowing mischievously. She looked at me as if it was all a game, a game where I often found myself losing, but where she always seemed to be waiting for me, patient, indulgent." You almost lost our bet," she said, leaning lightly on the back of her chair, her eyes sunk into mine. "I seriously wonder if you'll ever make it on time... just once, to see."
His tone, although amused, stung me gently. Not in an unpleasant way, but rather as a reminder, a challenge hidden behind his sweet words. A challenge that I desperately wanted to take up, for her.
"But I'm not late," I retorted, trying to keep some dignity in this losing battle. "The proof, the princess isn't even here yet!"
I glanced quickly at the door, hoping that Celestia wouldn't choose this exact moment to contradict me. Twilight raised an eyebrow with an almost insolent grace, a smirk gently stretching her lips. Those lips... I tried to divert my attention from what had no reason to be thought.
"Hmm, you're not wrong," she finally admitted, not without a hint of mischief. "But our bet is holding until the end of the year, don't forget."
She let out a crystalline, light laugh, like a gentle breeze on a hot summer day. That laugh, so unique, that made me feel like everything was fine, that anything was possible when I was by his side.
"Oh no, I don't agree!" I protested as I crossed my arms, falsely offended, hoping she wouldn't notice the blush that was rising on my cheeks.
"There are a few words missing from your sentence," she replied, with that mischievous look.
"It was done on purpose," I replied in an overly sarcastic tone, trying to keep control of the situation, even though, deep down, I knew she was still leading the way.
She rolled her eyes, a smile on the corner of her lips, before stretching out her paw to gently undo my hair. A gesture that had become our little habit. At that moment, the door of the classroom opened, and our teacher, the majestic Princess Celestia, entered. There was an instant silence in the room, but quickly, a bright smile lit up her face, and she let out a soft laugh, dispelling the aura of solemnity that had set in.
"My dear students, there is no need for such a solemn silence," she said with the kindness that characterized her. "I prefer a living classroom to a silent one."
His words were followed by a few nervous laughs in the room. I glanced at Twilight, who was still smiling at me, as if nothing in the world could break this moment we shared. After the usual few formalities, the princess announced the exercise of the day: to make a Moly flower bloom. This mythical flower, whose flowering was only possible for the most talented magicians, seemed almost an impossible challenge to us. But Twilight, with her eternal optimism, gave me a confident look.
"We can do it," she says simply.
We set to work, focused, trying to channel our energies. But with each attempt, the flower refused to open. Frustrated, I sighed as I almost collapsed on the table.
"I think we're missing something," Twilight whispered as she looked at the plant, pensive.
"Yes, maybe we miss him... magic, or maybe just a little luck. Or I don't know, talent?"
With renewed determination, we began the incantation again, this time in perfect synchronization. Slowly, the flower began to quiver, its petals opening before our astonished eyes. The Moly was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined, its petals shimmering in the light of the room, as if impregnated with stars.
"We did it!" I cried, my heart pounding.
Without thinking, I turned to Twilight, and in a burst of joy, I held her close to me. It was only a quick hug, but the intensity of the moment left me speechless. She slowly pulled away, her eyes shining with emotion. Twilight looked at me, her bright smile lighting up her face, and her breath still slightly jerky from the effort. For a moment, everything seemed to hang around us. Her big purple eyes sank into mine, and I felt a strange warmth wash over me, more intense than usual. It was as if, at that very moment, something had just changed between us. It was subtle, almost imperceptible, but I couldn't ignore it.
"We really did it," she whispered in a soft, almost hesitant voice.
My heart was pounding, and despite the heat of the room, a slight shiver ran down my spine. I was trying to catch my breath, to hold on to reality, but it was difficult. The weight of the intensity of this moment made me almost dizzy.
''Yes...'' I finally managed to answer, my voice lower, more trembling than I would have liked. "We're really a great team."
Twilight smiled even wider, and I couldn't help but notice the faint pinkish tint that rose gently up her cheeks. I didn't know if it was due to the excitement of our success or something else, but it made me strangely happy to see her like this. The bell rang, abruptly bringing us back to reality. The sharp sound put an end to this moment suspended in time, and I almost felt a twinge of disappointment. Princess Celestia's voice, always benevolent, rose above the hubbub that gradually invaded the room.
"It was a great job, little ones," she said with a proud smile. "You can leave and enjoy the rest of your day. And don't forget to keep training, practice is the best way to improve!"
Everyone thanked her, and then we started to put our things away. As I was about to leave my seat, I saw Twilight hesitate, as if she wanted to tell me something but didn't really know how to go about it. We left the classroom together, in silence, but there was nothing uncomfortable about this silence. He was filled with this gentle tension, this certainty that a new chapter in our relationship had just opened. Outside, the air was cool, and the wind blew softly through the branches of the trees. The sun was beginning to set, flooding the horizon with golden and pink shades. We walked side by side, our steps in rhythm, our bodies close to each other, as if the mere thought of moving away a little could break the fragile balance of what we had just discovered. Along the way, Twilight leaned slightly toward me, her shoulder brushing against mine. This simple, almost innocent gesture.
"Do you remember when we were younger, and we dreamed of becoming great magicians?" she asked suddenly, breaking the silence in a soft voice.
"How could I forget?" I replied with a wistful smile. "We spent hours imagining all kinds of adventures..."
"I think we've already started to realize some of these dreams," she continued, her tone slightly pensive.
"Me neither, Twilight," I whispered, feeling the emotion rise inside me. "I'm so lucky to have you by my side."
We finally arrived at the lakeside, where we had often spent our afternoons discussing and revising. Twilight sat down under our usual tree, and I joined her. She looked up at the sky, watching the first stars begin to twinkle.
"You know, sometimes I wonder what my life would be like without you," she confessed, her voice barely more than a whisper.
She looked down at our intertwined paws, and a tender smile lit up her face. We remained in silence, observing the stars. The minutes ticked by, and soon, fatigue made itself felt. We snuggled together, our bodies instinctively seeking each other's warmth and comfort. The gentle evening wind played in our manes, and I felt my eyelids grow heavy. Before I fell asleep, one last thought crossed my mind: no matter where life took us, as long as Twilight was by my side, everything would be fine.
As I snuggled a little more against Twilight, feeling her reassuring warmth, a deep, familiar voice abruptly woke us from our tranquility.
''Twilight! Mady! Where are you?''
I immediately recognized the panicked voice of Shining Armor, who was approaching at a run. Twilight jumped, her eyes widened, and without waiting, she jumped to her feet.
"Shining!" she shouted before jumping on him, her hooves wrapping around his neck in a stifling embrace.
"But damn it, Twilly, don't ever scare me like that again!" he cried, his voice trembling between relief and anger. "I thought you had disappeared!"
I stood up in turn, a little embarrassed. I had completely lost track of time. "Sorry, Shining Armor, it's my fault... It was my idea to come here. We didn't realize that time was passing so quickly."
He shook his head, softening his expression. "Don't worry, Mady. I know you didn't do it on purpose. But next time, let me know. I have to keep an eye on both of you."
Twilight and I exchanged a knowing glance before replying in chorus, "I promise!"
Shining Armor sighed, an affectionate smile on his lips. "Come on, come, I'll bring you back. It's getting late."
We left the lake and made our way back, Shining's hooves echoing softly on the trail while Twilight stayed close to him. I walked by their side, my heart still agitated by the emotions of the day. The complicity I shared with Twilight warmed me.
When I arrived at Twilight's house, I couldn't help but take a look at her house, the home that had also become mine. My parents had not been there for a long time, and it was here that I found the warmth of a real family. Every time I crossed that threshold, I felt a weight lightened, as if the mere presence of Twilight and Shining Armor was enough to soothe all my sorrows.
"Good night, Twilly. Good night, Mady," Shining said as he dropped us off at the entrance.
"Good night, big brother," Twilight replied before offering him a tender smile. She loved him so much, and I could see in her eyes that this affection went beyond their brotherly bond. They were really close, and it always warmed my heart to see them together.
Twilight just smiled, a sweet and benevolent smile, before pulling me to her room. "Come on, we still have to revise a little for our next class!"
I burst out laughing, that lightness regained after such an intense day. "Always homework with you, huh?"
She laughs softly before undoing my hair with an affectionate gesture. "Yes, someone has to make sure you're not late tomorrow, again!"
We spent the evening laughing, reviewing and discussing everything and nothing, like two inseparable friends... Night fell slowly, and as silence filled the house, I felt the cool evening wind caress my face through the half-open window. We fell asleep as usual, side by side, under the soft blankets, but this time with one certainty: no matter what the future held, we would always be together. And yet, in the back of my mind, a small voice whispered to me that this fragile balance would not hold forever. One day, everything could change. But for now, I chose to savor every moment spent with her, without worrying about what tomorrow would bring. Our daily life continued like this for months, filled with magic, laughter and this ever stronger complicity
