Equestria's ponies have told their tale
But now a villain shall tell her tail
Allura's hind legs were stuck straight up in the air like two awkward tree branches, and her tail flopped over her head.
Twitch was sitting on his tail beside her. He blinked in surprise, shaking his head to clear the dizziness caused by the catastrophic failure of their latest evil plan. He looked around and realized they were sprawled across a small, snow leaopard-sized ice floe bobbing in the middle of the endless, open ocean.
Allura groaned, her eyes crossed from whatever strange force had deposited her and her sidekick onto this piece of ice. "Ow… what did those ponies do to my spell?" she muttered, her voice muffled by the cold ice beneath her chin. Her back felt like it was locked in a painful cramp, her hind legs still sticking up at a comically awkward angle.
Twitch hopped over, assessing her predicament with a thoughtful expression. He twitched his nose, then his ears perked up. He quickly went to work, tapping his little paws rapidly against various spots along Allura's spine, applying pressure with a series of rapid, precise strikes.
"What are you—Ow! Hey, that’s—Ow!” Allura hissed through gritted teeth. But before she could finish, a loud pop sounded from her back, and suddenly, her muscles unlocked. She yelped as her legs shot back down, and she collapsed flat onto her stomach.
She blinked a few times, groaning slightly as the feeling returned to her limbs. “Okay… I guess that was… helpful,” she muttered. Twitch gave her a smug look and dusted off his paws, clearly satisfied with his handiwork.
Allura shook herself off and got back onto her paws. "I can't even remember what even happened. We were so close to winning. Equestria was ours. And then those ponies ruined it all, as usual." She growled as she lifted a forepaw to press against her aching head. "I think it ended with a magical. . . explosion? Teleport? Warp? Portal that opened for a second and closed right away?"
Allura stood up taller to spread her wings, only to wince and snarl as crackling energy sparked through her feathers. "Argh! My wings! That magical backlash or whatever it was wrecked them! Probably took out all my powers too!"
Twitch stood up a mimed popping something in his mouth.
"Well, we don't have any of those mushrooms that regulate excessive magic with us, do we?" Allura shot back. Then she tossed her long hair back and huffed, "Alright, alright… Enough messing around. Time to swim! Keep up!” She crouched down, giving a determined nod to Twitch. With a mighty leap, she launched herself off the ice floe and into the frigid ocean.
The moment her paws hit the water, she realized her mistake. The icy waves engulfed her immediately, and she started flailing around in a frantic panic, her paws splashing and kicking wildly. “Wait—I CAN’T SWIM!” she shrieked, floundering as water splashed into her face. Her wings slapped against the surface, soaking uselessly, only adding to her chaos.
Twitch sat back on his haunches, watching the spectacle unfold with a bemused expression. He rolled his eyes and gave an exasperated sigh, tapping his foot impatiently on the ice floe.
Moments later, Allura scrambled back onto the ice, water streaming from her fur and wings. She was panting hard, her eyes wide with a mix of panic and embarrassment. “Okay… swimming’s off the table,” she mumbled, her voice barely more than a grumble. She glanced around, noticing for the first time the endless expanse of ocean stretching out in every direction, no land in sight.
Allura’s shoulders slumped, and she moaned in despair. "What are we gonna do, Twitch? We’re stuck in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by water I can’t swim in, and my wings don't work! We’re doomed!” She let out a melodramatic sigh, flopping onto her side, her fur dripping onto the ice.
Twitch, however, seemed oddly unconcerned. A small smile played on his lips, and with a lighthearted hop, he bounced over to a clear spot on the ice. He used his little paw to scratch a tic-tac-toe grid onto the surface.
Allura watched him, her mouth falling open in disbelief. “Really, Twitch? Tic-tac-toe? This is your plan?” She slapped her paw to her forehead, groaning loudly. “We’re stranded in the middle of the ocean, and you want to play games?”
Twitch didn’t answer. He just sat there with that infuriatingly serene smile, his eyes twinkling with mischief as he waited for her to make the first move.
Allura sighed, long and heavy, her breath fogging up the cold air around her. “You know what,” she muttered, “Why not? It’s not like I’ve got any better ideas…”
She leaned forward, and with a single claw, she drew an X on the icy grid. And as the two of them sat there on that tiny ice floe, surrounded by endless blue, their own tale finally began.
Seven days or one week, a chilling test,
For Allura and Twitch, sorely distressed.
Lost at sea, no land in sight,
Just cold and dark, a dreadful plight
The ice beneath them, thin and frail,
A fragile raft, before the gale.
With every wave, a chilling fear,
That doom would soon be drawing near
No food to eat, their strength did wane,
As hope dwindled, like falling rain.
The ocean's vastness, cold and deep,
A silent tomb, where souls would sleep
The days had dragged by, one after the other, on that tiny, drifting ice floe. For a week now, Allura and Twitch had been stranded on this little chunk of ice (which was now covered in finished tic-tac-toe games, most of them ties), floating aimlessly over the vast, unforgiving sea. They’d been surviving, if you could call it that, by licking the ice, scraping it with their tongues to collect what little water they could from the frozen surface. They couldn't drink the salty sea water obviously, so they had no choice.
At the moment, Allura lay sprawled out across the ice, her body splayed like a tired starfish, her usually fierce eyes dulled by exhaustion. Her tail flicked lazily, and her left hind leg dangled off the edge of the floe, occasionally giving a feeble paddle in the water. She winced with every slap of the ocean against her fur, muttering to herself in frustration. “Ugh, my paw’s all wet… and gross… I hate this…”
Her stomach gave a low, rumbling growl that seemed to echo across the open sea. She groaned, rolling over onto her back and pressing a paw to her belly. “Ohhh, I’m starving… So, so hungry…” Her voice came out in a whimper, her sharp teeth clenching against the hunger gnawing at her insides. She turned her head, her gaze falling on Twitch, who sat nearby, his fur disheveled, his whiskers drooping with fatigue.
But as she looked at him, her gaze slowly shifted from pitiful to predatory. Her mouth watered involuntarily. Her eyes widened, and she licked her lips, a drop of drool trickling down her chin.
Twitch looked up and caught her stare. His ears stood up straight, and he gulped nervously. He squeaked out in fear, taking a small step back. He could see her eyes glazing over, her pupils dilating like a cat ready to pounce.
Allura loomed over him, towering like a shadow of hunger and desperation. Her tail flicked back and forth, her claws flexing against the ice. She leaned closer, licking her teeth, the hunger almost visibly radiating off her. Twitch's whiskers trembled as he stared at her sharp, glistening fangs.
He shut his eyes tightly and cringed, bracing himself for the worst.
But then, in an instant, Allura blinked, shaking her head violently. She snarled at herself, disgust curling her lips back over her teeth. “What are you thinking, Allura?!” she hissed under her breath. “Get a grip!” Her expression softened, and she gently patted Twitch on the head, her paw resting on his tiny, shaking frame. "Look, Twitch," she said, her voice low but fierce with resolve, "I'd rather starve to death than eat you. Got it?"
There was no doubt in her voice—only a stubborn, ironclad determination. She might be a villain, but she wasn’t a monster. Not to Twitch, at least.
Twitch slowly opened his eyes, his fear melting into something else. His heart warmed, touched by her words. But then, he looked at her tired, emaciated face, her hollow cheeks and sunken eyes, and he felt a stab of guilt. She was clearly suffering. Swallowing hard, his tiny eyes flitted across the ocean—endless blue with no food in sight.
Making a silent decision, he leaped up without warning and dove straight into her mouth.
Allura's eyes widened in shock as Twitch's fuzzy body landed on her tongue. Her gag reflex kicked in immediately, and she spat him out with a disgusted splutter. “Pffft! Twitch, what the—?!”
He landed with a wet plop back on the ice, shaking himself off like a wet dog. But he was determined. Without missing a beat, he hopped right back onto her face, grabbing at her lips with his little paws, trying to pry her jaws open.
Allura growled, thrashing her head to shake him off. “Quit it! I'm not going to eat you, you selfless idiot!” she snarled, trying to dislodge him, but he clung on like a limpet, his little feet pressing against her nose.
"Twitch! Stop it!" Allura snarled, swiping at him with a broad paw, but Twitch nimbly ducked beneath her swing, his little body a blur of determination. He couldn’t speak, but the frantic twitch of his whiskers and the desperate gleam in his eyes were clear enough: he was trying to do something, and he wasn’t about to give up.
“Are you seriously trying to get in my mouth?” Allura snapped, her tone both incredulous and exasperated as Twitch scrambled upward, his tiny paws pressing into her fur, digging for a grip.
Allura tossed her head, trying to shake him off. “Get off!” she growled, her voice thick with irritation, but Twitch clung tighter, his claws pricking her sensitive skin. His whiskers twitched furiously, his eyes narrowing with a look that practically screamed, "Let me do this!"
“Oh, for the love of—!” Allura snorted, trying to twist her head and catch him at a better angle, but Twitch held on. He braced himself, reaching up with his tiny paws to grab at the edge of her mouth, prying at her lips with frantic energy.
Allura felt his paw slip into the corner of her mouth, and with a frustrated grunt, she snapped her jaws shut—not enough to hurt him, just enough to catch his paw. "I said I'm not going to eat you!" she growled, her words muffled.
Twitch didn’t back down. His tiny paw wiggled against her lips as he leaned further in, one paw clinging to her nose while the other grabbed hold of her upper lip, trying to pull it up. His whiskers twitched furiously, and he puffed out his cheeks in silent insistence, his expression almost daring her to try and stop him.
Allura’s patience frayed to its breaking point. She shook her head violently, but Twitch clung on like a burr, his little feet slipping over her nose as he struggled to keep his grip. His eyes narrowed, and he leaned down, wedging his tiny fingers between her teeth, prying as hard as he could.
“Get off my face!” Allura shouted, her voice muffled as she tried to dislodge him. Twitch merely hunched his shoulders, scrunching his nose, and then, with a burst of determination, grabbed her ear by her earring and gave it a hard yank.
Allura’s eyes widened as pain shot through her ear. “Ouch! Not the ear!” she cried, shaking her head harder. Twitch dangled for a moment, like a strange, twitchy extention to her earring, before scrabbling up to her forehead and grabbing her mane for leverage.
“Seriously, Twitch?” Allura grumbled, crossing her eyes to keep track of him as he clambered around her face. He reached out with his little paws, gripping her nose, and pulled with all his might. Allura let out a sharp yelp, feeling the tug all the way to her skull.
With a growl of frustration, she swiped at him again, but Twitch ducked behind her ear, using it like a tiny shield. Allura tried to swat at him with her paw, but he darted around to the other side, grabbing her mane and yanking with all his strength.
Allura's nose wrinkled, her patience wearing thinner by the second. "Quit tugging on me!" she snapped, twisting her head around, but Twitch was too quick. He scrambled back onto her nose, this time reaching right into both of her nostrils and pulling them wide like he was trying to open a door.
“Ugh!” Allura complained, her voice tinged with disgust. She could feel his little paws pushing against her lips, trying to wedge them open again. "What is your deal?!"
Twitch, sensing an opening, flipped off of her head and hung from her nose. He wedged his back legs against her lower lip, stretching his tiny body up to press his head against her upper jaw, straining with all his might. His face scrunched up with effort, his eyes squeezed shut in concentration.
That was it. Allura had had enough. With a growl that resonated through the ice floe, she reared up on her hind legs. “Alright, you asked for it!” she bellowed.
Twitch’s eyes shot open wide, realizing too late what she was about to do. Allura flung herself backward with all her might, flipping over once before crashing down onto the ice floe with a tremendous THUD, the impact sending cracks shooting across the ice and Twitch tumbling upward a few feet into the air.
He landed in a heap on her belly, dazed and dizzy, little stars spinning around his head after spinning up and over in midair. For a moment, he lay there, stunned, while Allura panted, her chest heaving from the effort. She huffed, staring down at the little rabbit splayed across her fur.
But then, just as she was about to grumble another reprimand, she froze, her eyes catching something in the distance. Just over the horizon; a small, dark shape rising from the ocean, solid and promising.
Allura’s mouth fell open, and her eyes went wide. “Is that…?” she whispered, hardly daring to believe it.
Allura’s mouth fell open in disbelief, and Twitch’s ears perked up. He followed her gaze, and his eyes went wide with sudden realization. He leapt to his feet, bouncing on her belly with excitement, pointing with both paws toward the distant shape.
“An island!” Allura breathed, eyes locked on the promising sight.
Twitch nodded vigorously, his whole body vibrating with joy. Allura, forgetting all about their absurd fight, rolled over onto her belly, her paws trembling with renewed energy. Allura scrambled to her paws and rushed to the edge of the ice floe. She plunged her forepaws into the freezing water, paddling with frantic determination. The floe began to move, gliding faster and faster toward their salvation.
Twitch hopped in glee, his little feet drumming against the ice, his face lit up with hope. Together, they pushed onward, the island growing larger and clearer with every desperate stroke of Allura’s powerful paws, their spirits soaring as they raced toward a new chance at life.
Allura, graceful, drank with ease,
Her tongue dipped gently, her thirst was pleased
Twitch, content, in silent bliss,
Enjoyed the spring, a welcome kiss
The cavern echoed, with a gentle sound,
Of water lapping, all around
A peaceful moment, calm and deep,
A bubbling beauty, a moment to keep
The cavern opened up before them as Allura and Twitch continued their journey. Vast and glittering, the ceiling so high it disappeared into shadows. The walls were lined with enormous crystals, each one towering as high as ancient trees, their surfaces smooth and faceted, reflecting light in a kaleidoscope of colors. Some of the crystals were deep shades of violet and amethyst, while others shimmered in icy blues and greens. The entire cavern seemed to hum with a low, vibrating energy, the air thick with magic and mystery.
Allura padded forward, her pawsteps silent against the smooth floor. Her eyes were drawn to the centerpiece of the chamber—a smaller cluster of crystals nestled in the center of the room. These crystals were different from the others, glowing softly with a pale, pulsing light that seemed to draw her in like a moth to a flame. The glow of these crystals was a soft blue, but with streaks of silver swirling inside them, as though they held the very essence of ice and frost.
Her heart raced with anticipation. This was it. She was sure of it. The energy contained within that cluster could restore her powers—her ice magic, her hypnotic abilities—all the things she had lost. She could feel it calling to her, and for a brief moment, the cold, calculating façade of the villainess melted away, replaced with raw eagerness.
Twitch, ever curious, hopped alongside her, though he stayed a few steps back, his nose twitching as he eyed the glowing crystals with both awe and caution. He could sense the power too, though in a way that felt foreign and strange to him.
Allura, her breath caught in her throat, raised a paw toward the cluster. Her claws, now sleek and gleaming from Twitch’s earlier buffing, hovered just above the smooth, glowing surface of the crystal. She could feel the magic thrumming in the air, could almost taste the power that would soon be hers again. Just one touch, and—
Suddenly, before her claws could make contact, the crystal cluster shuddered. A sharp, crackling sound filled the air, and then, without warning, it erupted. A surge of raw energy shot out from the cluster like lightning, wild and uncontrollable. The energy bounced off the towering crystals around the cavern, ricocheting in every direction, lighting up the cavern in blinding flashes of blue and white.
Twitch squeaked and dived to dodge as one of the bolts of energy zipped past his ears.
Allura barely had time to react as the energy lashed through the air. Her ears flattened against her skull, and she crouched low, eyes wide as she watched the chaos unfold. One of the bolts rebounded off a crystal and shot directly toward Twitch. He didn’t see it coming.
“TWITCH!” Allura’s voice was sharp, full of panic.
The bolt struck Twitch square in the chest, sending him tumbling backward with a small yelp. His small body hit the ground hard, rolling limply until he came to a stop several feet away, motionless.
For a heartbeat, the world froze. The cavern fell into eerie silence, the crackling energy dissipating into the air as quickly as it had appeared.
Allura’s heart pounded in her chest as she rushed over to where Twitch had fallen, panic gripping her. She cradled the tiny rabbit in her paws, his fur soft against her pads, but his body limp and unmoving. Her breath came in shallow gasps, her usual composure gone as her eyes darted over him, searching for any sign of life.
“Twitch… No… no, no, no,” she whispered, her voice cracking, something it almost never did. She gently shook him. “Wake up. Come on, wake up!”
Nothing.
Her throat tightened, and she growled in frustration and fear. “You can’t leave me here alone, Twitch! I—” Her voice broke again. “I need you.” Her paws tightened around him, pulling him closer. She pressed her forehead against his, something she would never normally do, desperate to feel him move, to hear that familiar squeak of his.
For several agonizing moments, there was nothing but silence.
Then, just as she was about to lose hope, Twitch stirred. His eyes fluttered open, groggy but alive, and he blinked up at her, dazed. The first thing he noticed was the softness of her paws cradling him.
“Your paws are… really soft,” he muttered, his voice clear and startling in the silence.
Allura's eyes widened, and she recoiled slightly, nearly dropping him. “You—” she stammered, her brain struggling to process what had just happened. “You just talked!”
Twitch blinked up at her in confusion, then realization dawned on him. His eyes went wide, and he sat up in her paws, a grin slowly spreading across his face. “I talked,” he repeated, this time more deliberately, and his grin widened. “I talked!”
He slipped out of Allura’s paws and bounced with excitement. “Oh wow, this is amazing! I can finally talk!”
Allura stared at him, her heart still pounding, though now it was more out of disbelief than fear. She narrowed her eyes, quickly masking her earlier panic with her usual cold demeanor. “What… what is happening?” she muttered, “What did that crystal do to you?”
Twitch, thrilled by his newfound ability, began pacing in excited circles. “Do you realize what this means? I can finally share all my brilliant ideas! All my mischievous plots! Oh, we are going to have so much fun taking over Equestria now that I can talk and provide actual input!”
Allura, regaining her composure, raised an eyebrow, her expression skeptical. “Input?” she echoed dryly. “Since when have you ever had anything useful to say?”
Twitch puffed out his chest, full of confidence. “Oh, you’ll see. Now that I can speak, you’ll finally realize just how much you’ve been missing out on. But first—” He stopped pacing and turned to her with a sly grin. “There’s one thing I want from you.”
Allura tilted her head slightly, her tail swishing behind her. “And what’s that?”
Twitch leaned forward, his grin widening. “You have to admit that I’m your best friend.”
Allura froze. The words seemed to hang in the air, sharp and uncomfortable. Her fur bristled slightly, and she narrowed her eyes at him. “I am not a friendship obsessed pony,” she said coolly, her voice edged with disdain.
But Twitch, undeterred, wagged a paw at her. “Oh, I know better. You care about me, Allura. You wouldn’t have freaked out so much if you didn’t.”
Allura opened her mouth to snap back, but the words died in her throat. He was right, of course. She hated to admit it, but she did care about him, more than she wanted to acknowledge. Swallowing her pride, she huffed and looked away, her ears flattening against her head in discomfort.
“Fine,” she muttered, barely audible, “I would be an idiot to deny it after everything. You’re… my best friend.”
Twitch’s face lit up with glee, and he started hopping around in joyful circles. “Ha! You said it! I heard it! I knew you cared!”
Allura sighed, flopping onto the cavern floor, her tail swishing irritably. “Are you done?” she grumbled, resting her head on her paws as she waited for him to finish rubbing it in.
Twitch, still bouncing around in celebration, called out between hops, “Never! You admitted it! Best friend status achieved!”
The energy in the crystal cavern was still humming from the wild burst that had knocked Twitch down, but now the air was charged with something new—Twitch's manic excitement. The small rabbit had never felt so alive, especially now that he could finally speak.
Twitch hopped up with a gleeful grin, his little paws bouncing on the cavern floor. "Oh, Alluraaa!" he sang out, his voice high and bouncing to match his movements. Twitch's small body was practically vibrating with excitement as he began his lively performance, his paws bouncing against the smooth cavern floor in a rhythm that was all his own. His ears flopped with each bound, and his nose twitched wildly as he sang, his voice high and bright, overflowing with glee. He hopped in tight, rapid circles, then shot straight up into the air, legs kicking out in all directions, his movements frenetic and full of life.
With each energetic leap, Twitch’s tiny frame seemed to radiate mischievous delight. His tail wiggled with every bounce, and his little feet hit the ground in a series of soft thumps, creating a beat of their own beneath the crystal cavern’s echoing acoustics. He zipped from one side of the cavern to the other, spinning on his back paws as he went, his head bobbing to an unseen tune, a manic grin plastered across his face.
"We’re the best of friends, the sneakiest of pairs!
They won't stand a chance against us,
Your claws are so sharp, my mind’s a bright spark!
Together we’ll make the whole world cold and dark”
Twitch belted out his lyrics, springing into the air in a joyous twirl, spinning so fast that his ears whipped around his head. He landed, then immediately bounced back up, twisting mid-leap and stretching his paws out dramatically.
His laughter bubbled up between his words, but it didn’t slow him down. Twitch hopped onto a nearby crystal, his feet clacking against its surface, and crouched low, his eyes narrowing playfully. He wiggled his bottom, then shot into the air with an explosive hop, landing next to Allura and spinning in a circle around her as he continued,
"We’ll sneak and we’ll slink, hide in the dark night,
While all the little ponies run around or hide in fright!
With all my clever plans, and your icy cold glare,
They won’t even know: we’re already there!"
His feet thumped against the floor in a rapid beat, his whole body a blur of motion as he bounced from one crystal to another, each leap more playful and erratic than the last. He wove in and out of the towering crystals, springing off the walls, twirling in midair, his energy seemingly endless.
“I’m the brains and you’re the brawn,
Together we'll bring a cold. . . new. . . dawn!"
Allura, who had been silently watching Twitch with an incredulous look, furrowed her brows. "Twitch... why are you singing?" she asked flatly, as if she couldn't believe what was happening in front of her.
Without missing a beat, Twitch twirled in place, his ears flopping as he spun. He pointed one tiny paw at her dramatically. "Don’t you know? Every great villain has a villain song! It’s part of the job!"
Allura blinked, then slowly sat up. "You’ve... actually got a point," she said, her voice laced with reluctant realization. After a beat, her expression shifted, a sly smirk curling on her lips, "Well then..." she stood, stretching her graceful limbs and spreading her wings wide.
Allura’s eyes glinted with a predatory gleam as she began her part of the song, her voice slipping into a smooth, minor key, each word dripping with a mix of cold elegance and power. Her movements were slow, deliberate, as if every step she took was calculated to command attention. She circled Twitch with the languid grace of a stalking feline, her paws silent on the cavern floor, barely making a sound as she slinked forward.
Her wings unfurled behind her like the cape of a villain, casting shadows across the shimmering crystals. With a fluid motion, she raised one paw and then the other, moving with feline precision, as if daring the world to watch her every step. She swayed her hips from side to side, her tail trailing behind her like a ribbon of shadow, as she moved closer to the center of the crystal chamber. Each step was soft and quiet, yet there was a palpable tension in the air, as though the very ground was waiting to yield to her.
"The time has now come,
For me to rise,
To claim my power,
and my prize!”
She stretched her wings outward, letting them glide gracefully behind her as she turned in a slow, deliberate circle. Her paws crossed one over the other, her body rippling like water with each step, her fur sleek and shining under the crystal light. She cast a look over her shoulder, her grin wide and wicked, as if she were daring the world to stop her.
“Ponies will kneel,
They’ll fear my name,
For I’ll take control of
Equestria’s game."
With a final snap of her wings, she stood tall, gazing at Twitch with a cool, satisfied smile. It was clear—this was no ordinary dance. It was a declaration, a promise of the power she intended to reclaim.
Twitch grinned wide, eyes gleaming with mischief as he bounced energetically around the crystal cavern, his tiny rabbit paws tapping the ground in a quick, rhythmic dance. Each leap sent him higher into the air, his body light and carefree, as though the energy inside him couldn’t be contained. He moved with an unbridled enthusiasm that contrasted sharply with Allura’s measured grace. Where she was sleek and composed, Twitch was all frenetic energy, a whirlwind of movement and excitement.
“Equestria’s story was oh so boring,
Till we came along!
Now we will give those meddling ponies
Something worth a song!”
His voice bounced in perfect time with his hops. His paws barely touched the ground before he sprang up again, twisting mid-air with a gleeful flourish. His ears flopped with each bounce, and his tiny body twisted in playful, chaotic spins. The cavern seemed to amplify his lively voice, the melody bright and unpredictable, matching the erratic way he bounced from one crystal to the next.
He hopped up onto a low crystal, balancing for a split second before launching himself into a joyful leap, flipping backward with reckless abandon. His eyes sparkled as he twisted in mid-leap, landing on his back paws and springing forward again, all in one fluid, bouncing motion.
“We’ll flip the script, we’ll toss out the plot!
They’ll wish they could forget what power we’ve got!
We’re the cold chaos they didn’t expect,
We are the twist they just can’t deflect!”
Twitch kicked his legs out as he danced, hopping on one paw, then the other, his movements quick and nimble. He spun again, this time bouncing higher, his laughter ringing through the cavern.
Allura hovered in the air, her wings extended just enough to keep her suspended, yet she moved as though she were walking on an invisible surface. Her paws glided in a mesmerizing rhythm, stepping with a sultry, confident grace. It was as if the air beneath her had turned solid, her paws finding purchase where there was none. She moved smoothly, her body flowing in perfect time with the slow, deliberate beat of her song.
Each paw lifted gently, her claws barely visible as she took a step, and then she slid backward, her body in perfect balance. Allura was moonwalking in midair, her paws shifting effortlessly, the movement so seamless it was almost hypnotic. Her eyes gleamed with a cold confidence, her expression sharp, as though every note was calculated, every step meant to show off her untouchable elegance. Her wings moved in slow, deliberate waves, adding to the illusion that she was more than just a big cat—she was something ethereal, otherworldly, commanding.
Her voice, low and icy, slithered through the air, smooth and confident, yet with a chilling edge as she sang.
“Sunny and her friends,
They all think they’ve won,
But they’ll soon learn,
that we’ve only just begun
Soon they'll see,
Us return with a roar
They can't guess,
What we’ve got in store”
Her words were a soft purr, dripping with condescension. Allura’s paws continued their steady, backward glide, each step like a whisper against the invisible ground. Her wings flared slightly, casting long shadows across the cavern as she tilted her head ever so slightly, her eyes narrowing with cold calculation.
As she glided backward, her wings fluttered just enough to maintain her lofty position, the feathers moving in perfect sync with her slow, seductive dance. Her paws continued their moonwalk, as if she were gliding across the surface of a mirror, her body barely swaying as her eyes flashed with a cruel, icy delight.
“Their light will fade,
And all of their hope will fall,
We’ll shatter their dreams,
We’ll be sure to take it all
They’ll tremble and break,
It’s their turn to lose their way,
For we’re the ones,
Who’ll finally rule the day!”
With a final flourish, Allura spun once more, her wings curling in close to her body as her paws came together in a graceful landing. She paused in mid-air, hovering silently, her gaze sharp and cold, watching Twitch with a half-lidded, knowing look, as if she already envisioned the chaos they would bring.
Twitch’s eyes gleamed with manic energy as he laughed wildly, and belted out lyrics in a tempo just as manic.
"We’ll play an evil game,
a game dropping with the darkest wicked glee!
Don't give us all the blame,
Between justice and vengeance, the line is thin, ya see!”
His voice rang through the cavern in a bouncing, chaotic melody that matched the frantic rhythm of his movement. He launched himself into the air, ricocheting wildly off the towering crystals like a pinball in a machine. His small, agile body was a blur of motion, every bound more unpredictable than the last.
“Justice, vengeance, there’s really no difference there
Especially if we twist the rules and rewrite the game!
We’ll make the heroes question
Make them doubt what they know
As we turn their world upside-down and drive them insane”
He bounced off a particularly large crystal, kicking off it with his powerful hind legs, spinning mid-air before landing atop another with a mischievous thump of his foot. The momentum sent him flying across the cavern, where he rebounded off a glowing shard, laughing wildly as he did so. The sound of his laughter was as chaotic as his path, echoing through the chamber like a gleeful threat. His ears flopped with each hop, a frenzy of energy that couldn't be contained, yet his movements were precise, almost calculating in their madness.
“We’ll dance on the line, between right, wrong, and divine
Make them wonder where they belong!
For justice is nothing but a word that they speak,
And we’ll show them the powerful takes down the meek!"
He landed on a small outcropping of crystal, standing on his hind legs with his chest puffed out, his grin wide and triumphant as he finished his verse with a dramatic flourish.
Allura’s voice dropped to a low, smooth purr as she took over and sang to a slower tempo,
“Life is a crazy ride,
But in the bitter end
You know I always win,
Freeze my foes and their friends”
Her movements matched the slow, deliberate beat, every step calculated and controlled. She rose onto her tiptoes with the effortless grace of a stalking predator, her sleek muscles rippling beneath her glossy fur. Each step was a whisper against the cavern floor, her claws barely grazing the surface as she glided forward. Her wings unfurled slightly, draping like a villain’s cloak, adding an air of mystery and danger as they swayed with each languid movement.
"I play the game with ease,
I push until I'm pleased
I dance and watch them fall,
In the end, I will take it all."
she sang with icy coolness, her tone dripping with arrogance. Allura’s long, feline limbs moved fluidly as she spun in a slow circle, her tail swishing elegantly behind her like a ribbon caught in a gentle breeze. Her paws moved with precision, toes flexing delicately as she tiptoed through the air as if walking on an invisible tightrope. Her entire body was a contradiction—fierce yet graceful, powerful yet impossibly light, every step speaking of control and dominance.
“In the end, I will take it all."
Allura leaped silently into the air, her wings catching her as she hovered just above the ground, floating with the same effortless grace as before. She stretched out her limbs in a slow, powerful extension, her paws moving as if she were walking on air once more, each step deliberate, each movement exuding a quiet, deadly confidence. Her eyes gleamed with satisfaction, her every motion a declaration of her inevitable victory. There was no need for speed, no need for haste. Allura moved with the assurance of someone who knew the world was already in her grasp. Her dance was not a frenzy of movement like Twitch’s, but a slow, methodical display of dominance and elegance, a predator circling its prey, knowing full well the outcome.
Twitch’s voice rang out in a mischievous, high-pitched tone as he bounced into a slow swinging polka beat, his little body practically vibrating with excitement.
"We are the best team,
No doubt at all, please!
Bring down all their dreams
Watch them all falling!”
He leapt from one crystal to another his movements were chaotic yet perfectly timed to the upbeat rhythm, his hops so quick and light that he seemed to barely touch the ground before launching himself into the air again.
His paws flailed wildly as he spun mid-air, ricocheting off the sides of the crystals like a hyperactive pinball. Twitch didn’t just hop in straight lines; he zigzagged, twisted, and tumbled, letting his body roll and bounce in ways that only a nimble creature like him could pull off. His laughter echoed in time with the melody, his eyes wide and gleaming with wicked glee.
"With you, and me,
There is no defeat
Silly little pony dreams?
Ha! They’re obsolete!"
Allura, watching with a half-amused, half-annoyed smirk, decided to join in on Twitch’s verse. She moved forward with the grace of the snow leopard she was, her body gliding as if it barely touched the ground. With a sultry chuckle, she extended one paw, effortlessly snatching Twitch mid-leap. The little rabbit blinked in surprise but grinned widely as Allura swung him around, twirling him like a ragdoll in a powerful yet fluid motion. She held Twitch aloft for a moment, spinning him with ease, her eyes narrowing with wicked satisfaction. She sang in a low, velvety voice that contrasted beautifully with the slow swinging polka.
“Know our reign will be last forever,
Crush all ponies in our endeavor
They will yield to my rule divine
It will be all mine!”
Allura’s body moved with perfect control, each step deliberate, her tail swaying behind her like a whip. She twirled once more, this time swinging her body low to the ground, her paws moving in a slow, hypnotic rhythm as she dipped Twitch close to the floor and then pulled him back up in one smooth motion. The mischievous rabbit squealed in delight, his paws flailing as he laughed.
Then Allura kicked out one hind leg, and her paw connected with one of the large, towering crystals.
The crystal wobbled ominously for a moment, teetering as if considering its fate. Then, with a thunderous crack, it toppled over, the sound echoing through the cavern. The impact sent vibrations rippling across the ground, shaking the other crystals loose like a chain reaction. One by one, they began to fall, crashing to the floor in a growing cacophony of destruction.
Twitch cackled with glee, barely holding onto Allura’s paw as she spun him out of the way of the collapsing crystals. "Now that’s what I call a grand finale!" he shouted, his voice almost drowned out by the chaos.
Allura, ever the cool and composed predator, merely smirked. She didn’t break her stride, continuing to dance through the chaos as if she’d planned it all. Her wings flared out behind her, catching the dust and debris in a swirling vortex as she dipped and twirled, dragging Twitch along for the ride. The two of them moved as one, villains caught up in their own symphony of destruction,
Allura finally flared her massive wings, her feathers shimmering in the dim light as she leaped into the air. Twitch clung tightly to her back as she soared toward the opening high above them. The crystals fell like rain, smashing into the ground below, but Allura darted between them with fluid grace, twisting her body with the ease of a natural predator.
She angled her wings for a swift, vertical ascent. The wind rushed past them as she pumped her wings, sending them higher and higher. Her lithe form cut through the dusty air, her eyes gleaming with wicked intent as the cavern’s ceiling loomed closer.
Twitch, his face stretched into a wild grin, lifted his head and began to sing again, his voice high and triumphant.
"Equestria will be ours,
Oh there is no doubt at all!
They’ll watch their little world
As it crumbles and it falls!"
His laughter echoed through the air, almost drowned out by the sound of the collapsing cave below. He bounced slightly on Allura’s back, his feet tapping excitedly against her as if even flying couldn’t stop his relentless energy.
"They’re living in denial
Thinking they’re safe
But soon they’ll be pleading,
So desperate for our grace!"
Allura cackled darkly, her wings beating harder as she aimed for the shaft of light peeking through the cavern ceiling, and her voice joined Twitch’s in a duet.
"They think they’re the heroes,
The most purest of heart
But when we break through,
We’ll tear them all apart!"
The wind howled as they burst through the ceiling, emerging into the open sky. The fresh air hit them like a wave of freedom, the horizon stretching out before them in all its vast, untouchable glory. Allura’s wings spread wide, catching the sunlight as she flew higher, her dark form a silhouette against the pale sky. Together, Allura and Twitch rose into the sky, their voices lifting in unison.
“Equestria will shake
they’ll scream both our names!
We'll get to hear their pleading
Our reign will not end
A cold day of dread
Their screams will echo as the villains win instead!"
As the two soared higher, leaving the wreckage of the crystal cavern behind, their voices blended in a chilling harmony, carried on the wind toward their inevitable conquest.
A distant shape, a glimmer bright,
Rose from the sea, a hopeful sight
Allura's eyes, with wonder filled,
A heart once weary, now fulfilled
Twitch, too, saw, with joy and glee,
An island ahead, a sanctuary
Together, they, with might and main,
Paddled towards, to break the chain
The ice floe moved, a hopeful sign,
As they drew near, the land divine
Their spirits soared, their hearts grew light,
As hope replaced the darkest night
The sand crunched beneath Allura's paws as she finally crawled off of what remained of the ice floe, her front legs heavy and soaked with seawater. Twitch flopped down beside her, his little chest heaving, his tiny body trembling from both cold and exhaustion. For a moment, they lay there on the warm sand, basking in the blessed stillness after days of drifting on that icy, merciless sea. The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows over the beach, the warm rays gently kissing their fur.
After catching their breath, they turned to the dense, vibrant jungle that lay just beyond the beach. Allura’s eyes glittered with determination, while Twitch’s nose twitched, picking up the scent of fresh greenery. They exchanged a quick nod and sprinted toward the thick undergrowth, legs pumping with newfound energy. They had made it to solid ground; now they had to find sustenance.
Twitch immediately darted ahead, his small form weaving through the tall grasses and broad-leafed plants like a little brown shadow. His instincts kicked in, and he began sniffing out every edible plant he could find—wild carrots, dandelions, clover, and even some tender roots poking out from the ground. His paws moved almost automatically, ripping up green shoots and stuffing them into his mouth. He chewed quickly, hungrily, swallowing down mouthfuls of fresh, sweet plants, barely pausing to breathe.
He didn’t notice anything else. The only thing on his mind was filling his stomach after days of gnawing hunger. He tore at leaves, chomped down roots, and even nibbled at bark. His world shrank down to the delicious taste of greens, the feel of them sliding down his throat, and the blissful relief of finally, finally eating something. For a little while, he was in his own world, completely focused on satisfying the hunger that had haunted him for days.
But at last, his stomach gave a satisfied gurgle, signaling that he’d had enough. Twitch let out a long sigh of relief, flopping down against the trunk of a nearby tree. As he did, he realized with a start that he hadn't seen Allura in a while. His ears perked up, swiveling around, and he sat up straight, scanning the edge of the jungle with wide eyes.
Then, he spotted her. Allura was making her way back toward him, her fur looking a bit disheveled but her posture relaxed and satisfied. But what caught his attention were the red stains smeared across her mouth and down her chin, stark against the purple fur of her face.
Twitch’s heart gave a nervous jolt. His imagination ran wild for a moment, picturing Allura sinking her teeth into some poor animal, tearing it apart with her sharp claws. He suddenly wished he hadn't eaten so much as his stomach churned. He turned away, placing a paw over his mouth as his cheeks bulged. But then he caught himself and swallowed it back down. He took a deep breath and reminded himself that Allura was a predator. She eats meat and that's just nature. His whiskers twitched, and he turned back to face Allura and gave her a quick sign—a little shrug and a wave of his paw that seemed to say, "You do you."
Allura blinked, her ears flicking back in mild confusion. Then she saw the nervous look in his eyes and seemed to catch on. Her face shifted from puzzled to mildly irritated, and she let out a snort of amusement. "Oh, come on," she said with a roll of her eyes, her voice tinged with annoyance. "It's just berry juice, Twitch."
Twitch blinked, his ears twitching in surprise. He looked at the red stains on her muzzle again, then back up at her face. The realization hit him, and he felt a little foolish for his earlier panic. Of course, they were berries—bright red, juicy stains, not at all like the aftermath of a hunt.
Allura gave an exasperated sigh, wiping a paw across her mouth to clean some of the berry juice away. “They were sweet, by the way. Pretty good for jungle berries," she muttered.
Twitch grinned sheepishly, his whiskers twitching with a mix of embarrassment and relief. He thumped his hind leg a few times in a little apologetic gesture, acknowledging his mistake.
Allura sighed, though a small smile tugged at her lips. "Alright, now that we're not starving to death," she began, glancing back at the jungle stretching out around them, "we should check out the rest of this place. See if there's anything useful—maybe fresh water or a high spot where we can get a better look around.”
Twitch nodded eagerly, his ears perked up, ready for whatever came next. They had made it through one challenge, but there was no telling what else lay ahead. With a determined flick of her tail, Allura started forward, and Twitch bounded alongside her as they went deeper into the island jungle.
The air grew thick with the scent of damp earth and lush greenery as Allura and Twitch made their way deeper into the jungle. Sunlight filtered down in scattered patches through the canopy above, casting dappled patterns on the ground. Allura’s kept her keen senses alert to any signs of danger or opportunity as they walked.
Then, something caught her attention. Her nose flared, picking up a scent that made her stop dead in her tracks. It was an enticing, almost intoxicating smell, unlike anything she'd ever encountered before. Her head snapped in the direction of the aroma, and she sniffed the air again, eyes narrowing as she followed the invisible trail with single-minded focus.
Twitch noticed her sudden change in demeanor and hesitated, his nose twitching nervously. He could smell it too, and he immediately recognized it. His eyes widened in alarm, and he scampered in front of Allura, waving his paws frantically to get her attention. He knew exactly what that scent was—catnip.
But Allura barely noticed him. Her head was already low to the ground, nostrils flaring as she inhaled the scent, leading her to a small patch of green leaves with a silvery tinge to them. The smell was almost overwhelming now, so alluring that she felt a deep urge to investigate further. Twitch hopped in front of her again, trying to warn her, his small paws waving like crazy. He squeaked frantically, trying to convey his message: "Don’t touch it! Don’t eat it! Stay away!"
Allura knew many things, but there were still things that Twitch knew that she did not. Plants was a category that the rabbit happened to be a bit of an expert in. Twitch was indeed familar with catnip, while Allura had never even heard of it.
So, Allura huffed and batted Twitch aside with a paw, her focus dominated by the scent coming from the plant in front of her. "Oh, come on, Twitch. It smells so good, how could it be bad?" she murmured, more to herself than to him. In all honesty, she probably would have listened to Twitch’s warnings if it wasn't for that incredible smell messing with her head. She leaned down, took another deep sniff, and closed her eyes in delight. She’d never smelled anything quite like it before. It seemed to draw her in, compelling her to get closer, to taste .
Twitch jumped up and down, still trying to warn her, his ears flopping wildly, but Allura wasn’t listening. Her mouth opened wide, and with an impulsive, almost gleeful decision, she took a huge chomp of the plant. She chewed slowly, savoring the unexpected burst of flavor, a dreamy look crossing her face. Twitch froze, his little eyes wide with worry as he watched her swallow.
For a moment, Allura stood still, her tail flicking in confusion. Her eyes grew wide and round, her pupils dilating to the size of saucers. She blinked, a strange grin spreading across her face. "I... I feel... strange," she mumbled, swaying slightly on her paws.
She tried to take a step, but her legs wobbled underneath her, and with a giggle—a giggle of all things—she flopped over onto her side, then rolled onto her back. Her paws curled in the air as she began to laugh, a light, high-pitched laugh, completely lacking her usual wicked edge. Her tail swished back and forth, batting at leaves with carefree enthusiasm.
Twitch watched, baffled, as Allura’s mouth twitched and she began to purr. "Purrrr... purrrr..." The sound rumbled from her chest, a soft, steady vibration that filled the air around them. This wasn't the hypnotic purring of her mind control spell. This was something more innocent. Allura’s eyes widened in surprise, and she gasped. "Wh-what is that? Where is that coming from?" she demanded, looking around wildly due to the catnip messing with her perception.
Twitch sighed, exasperated, and pointed a paw at her chest.
Allura’s head tipped to one side, her ears perked up. "Me?" she asked, sounding dazed. "That’s me?" She paused for a moment, as if pondering this revelation, and then a mischievous grin spread across her face. "I wonder what other sounds I can make..."
She took a deep breath, her nose twitching with amusement, and began to experiment. "Mrrrrrow," she trilled, stretching the sound out, her voice rising and falling like a musical note. "Mrrrrrrraaaaow!" Her mouth formed into a perfect little “O” shape, and her ears flicked forward, then back.
She tried again, this time deeper and longer. "Rrrrrrreeeeowww," she growled, rolling her tongue and stretching her jaw wide, her eyes crossing slightly as she concentrated. Her nose quivered with delight, and she batted playfully at the air, like she was a kitten chasing an invisible butterfly.
"Meeeooowwrr!" she sang next, her voice suddenly high and squeaky, her face scrunched up into an almost comically serious expression. Her eyes crossed again, and her ears twitched wildly. "Meeeee-yoooow! Mrrreeeew!" She moved from one noise to the next, chaining them together like an orchestra of feline sounds, each one slightly different, some drawn out long and melodious, others short and sharp. "Mew, mew, mew, mew!" she continued, her mouth moving into a series of exaggerated shapes—round, wide, and stretched.
As she continued, her face twisted and contorted with every noise. Her eyes widened comically, her tongue occasionally sticking out as she made a strangled, gargling noise: "Grrrrowlll-ow-ow!" She then squeezed her eyes shut and let out a long, almost mournful "Mrrrrrrrrowwww…" before breaking into another fit of giggles.
Twitch, growing more perplexed with each passing second, finally let out a soft huff and began tapping his foot on the ground, his arms crossed over his tiny chest. He gave her a pointed look that clearly asked, "Are you finished?"
Allura paused mid-"meow," her eyes half-lidded in a daze, and then she smiled down at him with a dreamy expression. “Meeeow,” she replied in a high, cutesy voice, dragging out the sound like she was mimicking a kitten.
Twitch sighed dramatically, rolling his eyes. He hopped up onto Allura's fluffy belly, settling himself down in the soft fur with a resigned look. Her fur was warm and thick, and despite himself, Twitch felt his eyelids grow heavy. Allura's belly rose and fell rhythmically beneath him as she continued to hum and purr in a daze, her eyes half-closed, enjoying the strange, new sensations coursing through her.
Within moments, Twitch decided that he, too, could use some rest. He curled up on her stomach, snuggling into her soft fur, and let out a contented little sigh. It seemed that both of them could benefit from a bit of sleep; Allura from the effects of the catnip, and Twitch from their days of surviving on the ice floe.
Slowly, lulled by the rhythmic sound of Allura’s purring, Twitch closed his eyes, and the jungle around them seemed to grow quieter. Allura's purring softened, a gentle, steady rumble, and soon enough, she was drifting into a blissful, catnip-induced nap, Twitch nestled comfortably on her warm, furry belly, both of them finally at peace—for now.
Allura, dazed, from catnip's spell,
A peaceful slumber, she did dwell
Twitch, too, sought rest, so sweet and deep,
Curled on her belly, fast asleep
The jungle's sounds, now soft and low,
As slumber's peace began to grow
Allura's purr, a soothing sound,
As peaceful dreams did now abound
Together, they, in slumber's bliss,
Found respite from their trials and stress
Their weary bodies, now at ease,
As night's calm shadows filled the trees
Allura awoke with a start, blinking rapidly as the haze of the catnip faded from her mind. She shook her head, feeling a bit disoriented, and found herself sprawled on her back. For a brief moment, she was tempted to close her eyes again and drift back into that strange, blissful state, but then she remembered where she was and who she was supposed to be.
The thick, humid air of the jungle flooded her senses. Her head still felt slightly fuzzy from the remnants of her catnip-induced stupor, still lingering like a fading dream. She blinked a few times, her golden eyes sharpening back into their usual calculating gleam. She sat up abruptly, causing Twitch, who was still napping on her stomach, to tumble off with a startled squeak.
"Alright, nap time's over," Allura commanded, shaking off the last vestiges of her bizarre behavior. She stretched her muscles, a low growl escaping her throat as her claws flexed. "Get up, Twitch. We’ve got to keep moving."
She rolled onto her paws, shaking off the last remnants of her temporary daze, and glared down at Twitch. The rabbit stood up and blinked, rubbing his eyes with his tiny paws. He looked up and gave her a look that said, “You’re the one who was snoring like a cub.”
“Come on, Twitch, enough dawdling!” Allura hissed, pushing past him. "Let’s just focus on getting off this island and back to Eques—"
Her words were cut off by a sudden rustling in the bushes. Twitch’s ears shot straight up, his nose twitching furiously as he sensed movement all around them. Before either of them could react, the jungle erupted with sound. A group of brightly colored rabbits, wielding tiny spears made from sharpened twigs and bound with vines, sprang out from behind the undergrowth. They formed a circle around Allura and Twitch, their eyes wide and their expressions fierce.
Allura’s fur bristled as she crouched low, ready to pounce. “Great. Just what we needed. More rabbits,” she muttered, her tail flicking back and forth with irritation.
Twitch, however, stared at the newcomers, his whiskers twitching with curiosity. These rabbits were different from him. Their fur was brighter, almost neon in color—greens, yellows, blues, and pinks that seemed to glow against the rich greens of the jungle. Their eyes were wide and expressive, chattering in rapid, excited tones as they closed in.
One of the rabbits spotted Twitch and froze, its eyes growing even wider. It chattered something in its strange language, pointing a paw at him. The others followed its gaze, and suddenly, they all dropped to their knees, bowing low before him.
Twitch blinked, his ears drooping in confusion. He shot a questioning glance up at Allura, who, for a moment, looked just as baffled as he was. Then, slowly, a sly smile spread across her face. She leaned down close to Twitch, her voice low and conspiratorial. “Looks like they think you’re someone important,” she whispered. “Maybe even their king or something. We could use that, you know. Play along, and we might just get ourselves some allies—or at least some free food.”
Twitch’s ears twitched nervously. He wasn’t sure about this. The whole situation felt strange, and something in his gut told him not to trust it. But when he saw Allura’s eyes gleaming with that mischievous, cunning light, he knew she wouldn’t let him back out now. With a small, reluctant nod, he decided to play along.
He puffed out his chest and hopped forward with a confident bounce, trying to imitate what he imagined a royal rabbit might look like. The island rabbits squeaked with joy and quickly ushered them toward their territory—a large clearing in the jungle filled with burrows, woven nests, and even small huts crafted from leaves and sticks.
In the center of the clearing, they were presented with a grand feast laid out on broad banana leaves. Fruits of every shape and color, crisp vegetables, juicy mushrooms, and various types of boiled beans were arranged in an elaborate spread, clearly meant to impress. Several rabbits hopped around the winged snow leopard, gesturing for her to eat her fill.
Allura’s eyes lit up at the sight of the food. Her stomach growled loudly, and without hesitation, she leapt forward, her mouth already open to take the first bite. “Well, don’t mind if I do!” she declared, pouncing on the nearest pile of ripe berries and sinking her teeth into them with gusto. Juice dribbled down her chin as she tore into the feast, oblivious to anything else around her.
Twitch, on the other hand, remained wary. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. As the rabbits cheered Allura on, he spotted a hollowed-out tree stump to the side, filled with plants and herbs that looked oddly familiar. He hopped over and sniffed cautiously, his nose twitching with recognition. It was a makeshift medicine chest, filled with healing plants and roots.
Among the various herbs, his eyes landed on a particular mushroom—a plump, round specimen with a blue cap. His heart leapt in his chest. He recognized it immediately: a healing mushroom known to absorb and disperse excess magical energy. This was exactly what Allura needed to fly again!
Twitch darted forward, grabbed the mushroom with his paws, and looked over at Allura. She was too busy stuffing her face with beans and meaty mushrooms, the closest thing to actual meat she could get at the moment, to notice him. He sighed impatiently and tucked the mushroom away in the thick fur on his side, making sure it was safely hidden. He would give it to her later when things calmed down.
But just as he turned back, two of the brightly colored rabbits appeared beside him, chattering excitedly. They began to adorn him with necklaces made of woven grass and bright flowers. A makeshift crown crafted from twigs and colorful feathers was placed upon his head. Twitch blinked and tried to keep still as they fussed over him, but the feeling in his gut only grew stronger. This didn’t feel like a coronation—it felt like a trap. But for who?
He glanced over at Allura, still feasting with abandon, her eyes half-lidded in pleasure as she devoured the food. Clearly she had still been hungry from her time stuck on that ice floe, and those few berries she had eaten when they first arrived hadn't nearly been enough. Luckily, this feast seemed to be just what she needed to regain her full physical strength, although her ice magic most likely wouldn't be returning for a while.
In spite of Allura’s contented feasting, Twitch's ears drooped a little. He couldn’t shake the feeling that something weird was about to happen, something somecreature wouldn’t like. But what could he do? He was in too deep now.
Allura licked her chops and let out a satisfied sigh, stretching luxuriously. The feast had been better than anything she’d eaten in days—maybe weeks. She felt full, warm, and far too content for a snow leopard in her situation. Twitch, on the other hand, was still fidgeting with his new crown, his nose twitching anxiously as the island rabbits began to chatter and gesture for them to follow.
“Alright, where are they taking us now?” Allura asked, still basking in the afterglow of her meal. “Hopefully to an even bigger banquet hall, hmm?”
Twitch didn’t respond, just gave her a wary side-eye, his foot tapping with nervous energy. Still, he hopped along beside her as the brightly colored rabbits led them deeper into the jungle, their small feet pattering over the moss-covered ground. Allura kept her pace leisurely, her belly full and her mind drifting lazily over schemes and possibilities.
After a short trek, they emerged into a clearing dominated by a wide volcanic crater, not towering or menacing, but more like a deep, jagged hole in the ground with an ominous red glow emanating from within. The heat radiating from the pit made the air shimmer, and a low rumble hummed in the background, like a distant growl.
The rabbits gathered around a large rock near the crater's edge. One of them pointed at it excitedly, and Allura squinted to get a better look. The rock was painted with a crude but clear image: a rabbit that looked suspiciously like Twitch, standing tall and proud on the chest of a big cat that, in turn, bore a striking resemblance to her. The cat lay sprawled on its back, its wings folded uselessly against its sides.
Allura snorted and flicked her tail, a wry smile spreading across her face. “Ah, I see,” she mused aloud, tilting her head to study the painting more closely. “The old ‘prophesized ruler’ routine. We’ve hit the jackpot, Twitch! All we have to do is play along, and we’ll be worshipped as rulers. Not a bad deal, hmm?”
Twitch still didn’t speak, but he shot her a look that was both annoyed and worried, his ears flattening slightly against his head.
But before Allura could revel in her imagined future any further, one of the rabbits hopped forward and pointed to another rock, this one closer to the crater's edge. Her smile faded as she saw the painting on this stone: it showed the rabbits, these brightly colored islanders, lifting a large, winged big cat—her, unmistakably—over their heads and tossing her into the volcano below.
Allura’s eyes widened, her smirk vanishing in an instant. “What—?”
She glanced down at Twitch, who had folded his arms and was giving her a pointed look that seemed to say, “I told you so.”
Allura took a step back, her instincts screaming at her to run, but before she could spring away, her legs wobbled and then went completely limp beneath her. She fell to the ground with a heavy thud, her limbs useless and her head spinning. “No… no, no, no!” she stammered, her voice rising in panic. “The food—it was drugged!”
The island rabbits erupted into gleeful chattering, their voices like high-pitched giggles. They closed in around her, grabbing hold of her paws, her tail, her shoulders. Allura tried to fight, but her legs wouldn’t respond. She attempted to bite at them, but they were all just out of reach. All she could do was watch in horror as they lifted her up, carrying her toward the edge of the crater. She felt the heat intensifying, the air growing hotter with each step.
“No! Let me go, you little pests!” she roared.
The rabbits ignored her. With a collective cheer, they heaved her over the edge and into the yawning mouth of the crater.
Allura's heart jumped into her throat as she felt herself falling, tumbling end over end toward the molten lava far below. The heat was unbearable, like a furnace blast against her fur. She tried to flap her wings, but they were still useless, still heavy and sparking from the magical overload that landed her in this situation to begin with. At that moment, she believed she would die cursing Sunny Starscout and her friends.
But then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw something that made her gasp. Twitch had jumped in after her! The small rabbit was diving through the air, his tiny body a purple blur against the glowing backdrop of the crater. In his paw, he clutched something—a small, blue-capped mushroom, the same one he had tucked away earlier.
Allura’s eyes widened with realization. She stuck her tongue out as far as she could, reaching desperately as Twitch extended his arm, stretching every muscle in his tiny body to reach her. She felt the mushroom brush against the tip of her tongue, and she craned her neck, straining to grab it.
At the last possible moment, she felt her tongue wrap around the mushroom. She snatched it into her mouth, chewing frantically. The taste was earthy and bitter, but she swallowed it down in one gulp. Almost instantly, a tingling sensation spread through her body, radiating from her back to the tips of her wings. She could feel the crackling magic fade from her wings, her powers of flight reawakening.
Her wings snapped open, powerful and strong. She caught Twitch in her forepaws just as he began to fall past her. With a mighty flap, she beat her wings against the hot air, pulling them up just in time. The heat of the magma brushed their fur as they shot upward, riding the thermal drafts out of the crater.
The rabbits at the crater’s edge watched in disbelief as Allura and Twitch soared out of the pit, climbing higher and higher into the sky. They chattered angrily, waving their spears in frustration, but there was nothing they could do.
Allura let out a triumphant laugh that echoed across the jungle. She looped and twirled in the air, feeling the wind rush past her face, her wings feeling stronger than ever. She clutched Twitch close to her chest as she flew up, up, and away from the island.
“See, Twitch?” she called over the roar of the wind. “I told you we’d be fine! Just a minor setback!”
Twitch glanced up at her, his expression a mix of exasperation and relief, but he didn't argue. Instead, he nestled closer into her fur, his tiny paws holding on tight.
With a few more powerful flaps, Allura left the island far behind, the jungle fading into a small green dot against the vast blue of the ocean below. She soared higher, catching a strong tailwind, and together they flew off into the distance, the open ocean stretching endlessly before them, ready for whatever adventure lay next.
Allura fell, a fiery plight,
The magma below, a dreadful sight
Twitch, brave and bold, did follow suit,
A daring leap, a desperate route
A mushroom clutched, a hope restored,
A chance to live, a precious reward
The mushroom grasped, a bitter taste,
It's restorative power, soon embraced
Her wings, reborn, with newfound might,
She soared upward, a glorious sight.
Twitch, safe and sound, in her embrace,
They fled the danger, left the place.
As the island shrank into a tiny speck behind them, Allura felt the wind rushing through her fur, the air cool and sharp against her face. For a moment, she let herself revel in the simple thrill of flying—wings beating in a strong, steady rhythm as they cut through the sky. But then, the events of the past few minutes played back in her mind, and she glanced down at Twitch, who was still nestled snugly in her grasp.
He had jumped after her. Risked everything to save her. She could still see the determination in his bright little eyes, the way he’d stretched his paw as far as he could to get that mushroom into her mouth. A life-saving gamble without a moment's hesitation.
She felt a lump forming in her throat, a weight pressing against her chest that had nothing to do with the little rabbit curled up there. Twitch had leaped after her without a second thought, without hesitation, into a volcano . He’d risked everything to save her.
She glanced down at Twitch, his purple fur catching the sunlight, making him look like a small, amethyst gem against her. “You… you really risked your life back there,” she murmured, trying to sound casual, but the words came out softer than she intended.
Twitch looked up at her, his expressive eyes glimmering with something that made her heart tighten. He nodded once, solemnly, and then nuzzled deeper into her chest, his nose twitching against her fur.
Allura swallowed harder, fighting against an even larger lump in her throat, feeling her emotions threatening to spill over. She focused her gaze straight ahead, over the endless ocean, her wings gliding effortlessly on the warm currents of air. “You could have been a king, you know,” she said, “Servants, a throne, all the carrots you could eat… It’s a pretty sweet deal, Twitch. That's basically the kind of setup I've been trying to achieve this whole time back with those stupid ponies. If I've wanted that life, then you must have wanted it too. I mean, who wouldn’t want that?”
Twitch just shrugged against her, his expression utterly disinterested in the idea. Allura let out a shaky breath, trying to play it cool. She just wasn’t used to these feelings—this warmth in her chest that wasn't from the sun or the heated rush of battle. She cleared her throat, trying to sound nonchalant.
“Are you sure?” she pressed, her tone light but her eyes searching his face. “I mean, I could just turn around, drop you back on that island, and you could be a king. You know, just say the word and—”
Before she could finish, Twitch reached up with a tiny paw and tore off the crown that was still perched between his ears. He flung it into the wind without a moment’s hesitation. It tumbled and twisted before disappearing into the blue waves below. The necklace followed in kind, falling apart as it fell before vanishing beneath the water.
Allura blinked in surprise, her heart giving a strange, unfamiliar flutter in her chest. Before she could say anything, Twitch climbed up her leg with surprising speed, his tiny claws gripping onto her fur until he reached her back. He scrambled up, settling himself against the back of her neck. His small arms wrapped around her tightly, hugging her with all his strength. He pressed his face against her cheek, his soft fur brushing against hers in a tender nuzzle.
“You’re… you’re a fool, you know that?” she huffed, hoping her tone still carried some bite. “You could’ve had it all. Why would you give that up just to—just to save me?”
Allura felt a prickling at the corners of her eyes, an unwelcome moisture that she quickly blinked away. She sniffled once, just a tiny bit, before reminding herself fiercely that she was an evil, villainous winged snow leopard who always gets what she wants. Emotions were weaknesses, cracks in her armor. She had no place for them in her heart, especially not now, not after everything she’d been through.
But still…
She glanced back at Twitch, who seemed perfectly content, his eyes half-closed in the comfort of their shared warmth, and something inside her softened—just a little. “You’re ridiculous, you know that?” she muttered, her tone softer than she intended. “But… thanks. Really. For what you did back there.”
Twitch responded by pressing his head against her cheek again, his fur brushing hers with a tenderness that sent another unexpected warmth through her.
“Alright, alright, that’s enough,” she said quickly, trying to shake off the strange fluttering sensation in her stomach. “Let’s just… focus on getting out of here. I don’t want any more surprises today.”
With a steady flap of her wings, she propelled them higher, into a patch of fluffy white clouds that rolled across the sky like soft waves. The wind whistled around them, cool and refreshing. She felt Twitch’s little paws tighten slightly around her neck, and she let herself smile, just a tiny bit, her lips quirking upwards.
“Yeah,” she muttered to herself under her breath, “thanks, Twitch.”
"I think. . . I would do the same for him," Allura thought to herself, amazed that there was anything she cared about more than her own ambition.
She dwelled on this during what felt like hours of flying, until the mainland finally loomed ahead—a swath of green and brown, dotted with the distant shapes of buildings and roads. Allura felt a rush of relief at the sight of civilization. Her wings were tired from the long flight over the open ocean, and her muscles ached from the strain of endurance flying. But she pressed on, determined to reach solid ground.
She grinned to herself, already imagining the havoc she could wreak—the villagers bowing and scraping, terrified of the mighty winged snow leopard come to claim their town as her own.
Allura landed with a thud on a patch of soft grass, her paws sinking slightly into the dirt. She stretched her wings, feeling the satisfying pull of muscles. Twitch hopped off her back, shaking his little body to get rid of the stiffness from riding for so long. Allura watched him for a moment, considering her options.
“What do you think, Twitch?” she mused aloud. “Should we go terrorize whatever creatures live here? Make them our loyal subjects? Conscript them in our quest for revenge on Sunny Starscout and her friends? I bet they’ve never seen anything like me before.”
Twitch paused, sniffing the air. Then, suddenly, he squeaked in pain, his body jerking sideways. Allura’s eyes widened in horror as she saw him wobble dizzily and fall flat on his face. A dart protruded from his back, its feathered end quivering slightly.
“Twitch!” Allura screamed, her voice raw with panic. “No! No, no, no! Please don't be poisoned! Don't be dea—”
Before she could finish, she felt a sharp sting in her haunch. She twisted around, seeing a dart embedded in her rear. A low growl rose in her throat, and she yanked the dart out with her teeth, spitting it aside with disdain.
“A single dart?” she scoffed, her wings flaring out aggressively “That’s not gonna stop a mighty winged snow leopard like—”
More darts flew through the air, landing with pinpoint accuracy on her rear. One, two, three, four—Allura stopped counting as they peppered her haunches. Her eyes widened in surprise, and she swayed slightly on her paws.
“Oh... okay,” she grumbled, her words slurring, “That should… be enough…”
And then the world tilted, and everything went black.
Allura, weary, reached the shore,
Her wings, now tired, could fly no more
A vision of conquest, filled her mind,
A town to conquer, forces to find
"What shall we do?" Allura did say,
"Shall we rule here, in our own way?
Make them our subjects, rule with fright,
And seek revenge, with all our might?"
Twitch sniffed the air, a sudden pain,
A dart had struck, a cruel refrain
Allura's heart, filled with dismay,
As Twitch fell, in a dizzy haze
Another dart, did strike her side,
A stinging pain, her anger tried
She yanked it out, with fury's might,
Scoffed at foes, so weak and slight
But darts flew fast, a vicious rain,
Her strength began to slowly wane
Her vision blurred, her senses failed,
As darkness fell, and courage paled
Twitch woke up to find that the whole world had been turned upside-down. He blinked, shook his head to clear out the misty confusion in his brain, and realized that he was the one who was upside-down. He craned his neck and looked up to she his feet were tied together and hanging off of a hook. The rabbit then looked around the room, and he noticed various jars, bottles, and cooking utensils all around him. He also noticed the pot of boiling water atop a nearby stove.
It all became clear to him at that moment. He was in a kitchen, and somecreature wanted rabbit stew.
Twitch immediately swung his upper body upward, reaching up with paws. Eventually he grabbed the twine tying his feet together. In a few moments, he was able to untie the knot. He fell to the stone floor, then stood up tall to sniff the air. He needed to get back to Allura. Lucky for him, nothing in this land smelled anything like a snow leopard, so tracking down Allura wouldn't be too hard.
With a determined hop, he sprang up onto the windowsill, and then leapt out in search of a big cat.
When Allura’s eyes fluttered open, she was in darkness. Her head throbbed, and her limbs felt heavy. She tried to move, but her head hit something cold and hard. She blinked, her vision clearing, and saw that she was in a metal cage within a dark stone chamber. Panic seized her, and she pushed herself up, ignoring the ache in her body.
"How dare anyone put ME in a cage!" Allura snarled, and she lifted up her front legs and slammed her paws on the ground to unleash her icy powers. She hoped to shatter the cage with a blast of freezing wind and icy shards. However, not a thing happened.
"My ice magic still isn't back yet?" Allura roared incredulously, "Curse you, Sunny Starscout!"
Just the cage door creaked open, followed by the door to the chamber the cage sat in. She bolted out, only to skid to a halt as the bright sunlight outside blinded her. When her eyes adjusted, she found herself in a massive open-air stadium. It was a circular arena of stone and sand, with high walls and towering stands packed with cheering centaurs. Creatures with the legs and bodies of the ponies Allura had grown to despise, but with the torsos, legs, and heads of monkeys.
The air buzzed with excitement of these hybrid creatures, and the smell of sweat and dust filled Allura's big black nose. Allura made to spread her wings, ready to take flight and escape this madness, but she felt a sudden yank at her sides. She looked down and saw thick chains wrapped around her barrel, pinning her wings tightly against her body.
“You must be kidding me!” she growled, tugging at the chains. “How dare you restrain me, you wretched half-pony freakish—”
Her angry shout was cut short by a tiny squeak. She turned and saw a small hole opening in the ground, as if something was burrowing through. Without any fanfare or buildup, Twitch popped right out of the hole, his ears twitching wildly, his fur covered in dust but his eyes bright and alert.
“Twitch!” Allura gasped, her heart leaping with joy, "You're alive!" She didn’t care about the chains, the stadium, or the cheering crowd. Her legs sprang into action, and she sprinted toward him, her paws pounding the ground in frantic strides.
Twitch saw her and ran too, his little feet kicking up sand as he raced toward her, his eyes wide with relief. But before they could reach each other, a chariot shot out from the side, cutting between them. The side swipe sent Twitch spinning on one leg like a top, and he stumbled around dizzily when spinning finally stopped.
Allura yelped in surprise as her tail snagged on the back of the chariot. A pair of smaller centaurs pulled the chariot, where a larger more butly centaur, dressed in fine armor, drove it with pride and boldness. The crowd went wild with cheers, jeers, and laughter at the sight of the snow leopard being dragged by the champion's chariot. The driver looked over his shoulder and laughed at the unfortunate cat.
Allura’s paws barely skimmed the ground as the chariot tore across the arena, dragging her along for the ride. "What the—!" she screeched, her claws desperately trying to dig into the sand beneath her. But the arena floor was a mixture of coarse sand and loose rocks, making it impossible to gain traction. The landscape whipped by, the scorching sun glaring down on her as her body bobbed and jerked violently. Her paws skidded across the dirt, her claws scraping against the sand, kicking up a cloud of dust. Her sleek, lavender fur was soon dusted with grains of sand. Her mane blew back wildly in the breeze, and her legs wobbled as she struggled to keep her balance.
"Ice! Ice! I need my ice!" Allura shouted desperately as she slapped her paws against the ground while sliding backwards. The rough ground did not feel good under her paw pads. She turned her head to insult the centaur driving for giving her paws road rash, only to spot a pile of rocks up ahead, placed by the centaurs as an obstacle for the chariot. The centaur driving pulled on the reins to make the ones pulling him turn sharply. Allura leapt to one side to avoid the rock, and wound up on her hind legs facing forward, her tail still stretched out ahead of her.
“HEY!” she roared, her fierce voice carrying over the wind as she aimed a venomous glare toward the charioteer ahead. “DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO YOU’RE MESSING WITH?!”
The driver didn’t so much as glance back at her as he laughed again. The chariot’s wheels clattered noisily against the uneven ground, bouncing over rocks and dips in the sand as if her predicament was of no consequence.
"Oh, you’re going to regret this!" she snarled. But her words were cut short as a large boulder loomed ahead, and Allura barely had time to twist her body, avoiding it by the narrowest of margins. Her hind legs kicked out, her paw pads burning as they skidded across the rough sand.
Allura had always prided herself on being in control—fierce, selfish, and unrelenting in getting what she wanted. But now, she was at the mercy of someone else, reduced to being nothing more than a passenger on this humiliating joyride. “When I get loose, I swear, you’re going to wish you’d never seen me!” Her threats, while fierce, were punctuated by the increasingly desperate yelps and hisses every time she dodged a new obstacle. Her tail yanked again as the chariot jerked to the side, weaving between obstacles. It was all Allura could do to keep herself from being slammed into the nearest rock pile.
She landed on her rear with a thud, sliding across the sandy arena. Her hindquarters scraped painfully against the ground, leaving behind a trail in the sand. She yelled at the centaur driver, her voice filled with indignation, “You are scraping the fur off of my-!”
Before she could finish her complaint, the chariot swerved sharply to the left, narrowly avoiding a massive, jagged rock—but Allura wasn’t so lucky. She let out a choked yowl of surprise, her eyes going wide as the unavoidable became reality.
With a brutal, bone-rattling impact, Allura slammed face-first into the rock. Mocking laughter and delighted cheers echoed through the stadium as the chariot continued to speed off, leaving Allura flattened against the unforgiving stone surface. Her body hung limp for a moment. A groan of pure frustration escaped her, and her claws slowly slid down the side of the boulder, leaving small gouges in the stone as her body flopped into the sand.
Dust clouded around her as she lay there, stunned, her ears ringing from the force of the collision. For the first time in what felt like forever, Allura had nothing to say. She simply stared up at the sky, the soft azure of it mocking her in its serenity while her own world was turned upside down.
“I’ll... I’ll tear that chariot apart,” she seethed, her pride more bruised than her body. “No one messes with me and gets away with it.”
Though, deep down, as she rubbed her sore rump and winced at the ache in her tail, she had to admit... this wasn’t exactly her finest moment.
But then, she remembered who she had been running towards when the chariot rudely interrupted her.
She wasted no time and darted back to Twitch, her fierce predator demeanor forgotten in the rush of relief that he was alive. When she reached him, she wrapped her paws around him, pulling him into a tight embrace. She rubbed him against her cheek, her face wearing a huge smile. Twitch hugged her back, his tiny paws gripping her fur as if he’d never let go.
Allura closed her eyes, letting herself melt into the warmth of his tiny body. “I thought… I thought I lost you,” she whispered, her voice breaking with emotion she’d been trying so hard to suppress.
Twitch nuzzled her cheek, his nose twitching, his eyes bright with affection. She felt his whiskers brush against her fur, and she let out a soft purr, something she hadn’t done in years. She didn’t care that she was supposed to be a fierce, terrifying villain. Right now, all that mattered was that Twitch was safe and with her.
The sound of the centaurs’ cheering grew louder, filling the stadium with a deafening roar. Allura and Twitch glanced at each other, their expressions smug. They broke apart, standing tall, puffing out their chests, and waved grandly to the crowd, believing the cheers were for them. Allura even gave a dramatic bow, her tail flicking with pride.
But then they heard the sound of a heavy door creaking open behind them. They turned, and their confident grins faltered. A dark room lay beyond the door, and from within, they could see two glowing, hungry eyes staring back at them. A deep rumble echoed through the arena as a massive, scaly form stepped into the light—a cragadile, a massive reptile made of nearly unbreakable stone. Its teeth were bared, and saliva dripped from its gapping maw. One could tell just by looking at it that this was abnormally large specimen. It was certainly large enough to snap up abd swallow an entire snow leopard in one go.
Allura froze in place, her heart pounding in her chest. Twitch, ever quick-thinking, scampered up her back and began to fiddle with the lock on the chain that pinned her wings.
The cragadile bellowed, and it charged toward them with surprising speed for something do huge. Allura’s breath caught in her throat, and she felt a scream building in her chest. “Hurry, Twitch!” she shouted, her voice high with panic.
Twitch’s paws worked frantically, using a toothpick he had picked up from the kitchen he woke up in to pick the lock. The cragadile jaws were open wide, ready to snap them up in a single bite.
Allura squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for the worst. But then she heard a faint click. The chain around her wings loosened and fell away. Her eyes flew open, and without a second thought, she spread her wings wide and took off with a powerful leap.
They soared into the air just as the cragadile’s jaws snapped shut below them, missing by mere inches. Allura flapped her wings hard, ascending higher and higher, away from the reach of beast of stone.
The centaurs shouted angrily, their cheers turning into boos as the pair flew out of the stadium. But Allura didn’t care. She and Twitch were free, and that was all that mattered.
As they flew away from the arena, Allura glanced over her shoulder at Twitch, who was clinging to her back, his face pressed into her fur. She felt a rush of gratitude she hadn’t known she was capable of.
“Alright, Twitch,” she murmured softly, “Let’s leave this dump behind.”
And with a final beat of her wings, they flew off into the bright, open sky.
Allura, reunited, her heart did mend,
As Twitch she embraced, her dearest friend
Tears of joy, her eyes did fill,
As fear and doubt, began to still
Twitch, too, was overjoyed, so true,
His love for her, forever new
Together, they, in peace did rest,
Their hearts content, their spirits blessed
The centaurs cheered, a deafening sound,
As they stood tall, with pride unbound
But danger lurked, a hidden threat,
A monstrous beast, they weren’t safe yet
The cragadile, a fearsome sight,
Its jaws wide open, a source of fright
Allura froze, her heart did race,
As Twitch worked fast, a frantic pace
He freed her wings, just in time,
As fate intervened to silence door's chime
The centaurs booed, their anger shown,
Allura and Twitch, the coop they've flown
Arrows whizzed through the air, their sharp tips slicing past Allura's ears, embedding themselves into the nearby rooftops with harsh thuds. The winged snow leopard growled in frustration, her wings flapping furiously as she ducked and weaved, trying to evade the rain of projectiles. Twitch clung tightly to her fur, his little body pressed flat against her back as he squeaked in panic, pointing frantically towards the ground.
"Yeah, yeah, I get it!" Allura hissed between gritted teeth, her eyes darting for a safe place to land. The sky was far too dangerous now, with those arrows coming from all directions. The centaurs were not happy that their newest gladiatorial victim had flown away, and now archers were on a mission to recover her their entertainment dead or alive. She sucked in a breath, tucking her wings close to her body and plummeting towards the city below.
The wind whipped around her as she dove, the buildings growing larger and closer with each passing second. The huge statue of old King Vorak stood tall in the city center, seemingly looking straight at her as she descended. Her paws struck the cobblestone streets with a heavy thud, her muscles absorbing the impact with a jolt that sent a tremor through her bones. Twitch, still perched on her back, tugged at her fur, squeaking urgently.
"Hide? Yeah, sure, because I have so many options right now!" she snapped, eyes wide and darting around. Her paws pounded against the street as she sprinted down the nearest alley, her heart racing in her chest. Twitch squealed, pointing ahead, and Allura spotted the first building she could find—a modest stone structure with a faded sign and an open door.
With no other choice, she dashed inside, skidding to a stop as she realized what kind of place it was: a public lavatory. The smell hit her like a slap to the face. Allura wrinkled her nose, but there was no time to find somewhere better. She darted into one of the curtained chambers, tugging the thick, tattered fabric closed behind her.
She hopped up onto the large centaur-sized chamber pot, her hindpaws balancing precariously on the rim. She couldn't chance any centaurs spotting her vibrant purple legs underneath the curtain. Twitch, ever the nimble one, climbed up onto her head, crouching low to make himself as small as possible. Allura did her best to stay steady, but her paws wobbled on the slick edge, her claws scraping for grip.
"Don't move," she whispered harshly, trying to keep her voice low. Her ears twitched, listening intently for any sounds from outside. But then, her right hindpaw slipped, dipping straight into the cold, murky liquid at the bottom of the pot.
"Ugh, gross!" she whispered, her lips curling in disgust as she lifted her paw back out, giving it a firm shake, droplets flying off her fur. "Please, let that just be water," she muttered, her nose twitching as she tried to ignore the unpleasant sensation.
The faint sound of hooves clopping against the ground outside made them both freeze. Allura's heart pounded in her chest, and she could feel Twitch's tiny claws gripping her fur tighter.
They waited, every muscle tensed, barely daring to breathe. The sound of hooves grew louder, then stopped right outside the door. Allura's ears flicked, straining to catch any sound, but it was hard to hear anything over the rapid thudding of her heartbeat. The tension was suffocating, the air thick with anxiety.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the sound of hooves moved on, fading into the distance. Allura let out a slow breath, her shoulders relaxing. "I think they're gone," she whispered, daring to hope for a moment of respite.
But just then, Twitch's grip on her fur faltered, his balance shifting dangerously. Allura barely had time to widen her eyes in realization before Twitch slipped off her head. There was a moment of weightlessness, a tiny squeak of alarm from the rabbit, and then—a loud plop as he landed right in the chamber pot.
Allura's stomach churned, her nose wrinkling at the sight. "Oh, no... Twitch," she muttered, feeling a rare pang of sympathy. She watched as Twitch flailed in the filthy water, his eyes wide with fury and disgust. He surfaced, covered in a mess of who-knows-what, his expression pure indignation.
"Yeah, you have my sympathy," Allura whispered, doing her best to suppress her desire to retch. Twitch shuddered and shook himself off, his nose twitching in rage. He glared up at her with a silent but clearly exasperated look, his little body quivering from a mix of disgust and frustration. Allura shook her head at him and said, "But, really, of all the places you could have fallen... Well, that’s just your luck, isn’t it?"
Twitch scowled at her, his eyes narrowing as he squeaked a series of rapid, irritated noises, expressing his utter displeasure with their current situation. Allura gave a small sigh, and she hopped off of the chamber pot, her tail flicking behind her. "Yeah, yeah, I get it. Let’s just get out of here before they come back, okay?"
Twitch hopped onto her back again, and she felt his tiny paws grip her fur tightly once more. Her hindpaw still dripped from the earlier mishap, and she couldn't help but shudder at the sensation. But there was no time to dwell on it. They needed to move, and fast. Allura peeked out from behind the curtain, her blue eyes scanning the surroundings. The coast seemed clear—no centaurs in sight.
She crept out of the lavatory, her paws silently padding across the cool stone floor. Her fur was still bristling, and her hindpaw was damp and cold, but she pushed those thoughts away. They had to move, had to get out of here before things got worse.
Slipping into the adjacent bathhouse, Allura paused, blinking at the empty room. It was dimly lit by flickering torches along the walls, and steam curled lazily in the air, giving the place an eerie, almost dreamlike atmosphere. The large communal stone bath in the center was mostly empty, its water level low, barely covering the smooth bottom. Allura’s sharp eyes quickly spotted the large, circular drain at the center, a dark hole set into the stone floor. It looked just big enough for a snow leopard of her size—at least, if she could make herself small enough.
A grin spread across her face, and her tail flicked with excitement. "Perfect," she whispered, already imagining her escape. Without waiting for Twitch's input, she bounded toward the bath, splashing through the shallow water, droplets flying everywhere. The cool water soaked her paws and belly, but she didn’t care. She had an exit, a way out of this mess.
Twitch, riding on her back, felt his fur stand on end. He squeaked in alarm and frantically tugged at her fur, trying to get her attention. When that didn’t work, he jumped off her back and ran ahead, waving his little arms wildly in front of her, his ears flopping as he desperately tried to signal for her to stop. But Allura was in her own world, her mind set on the drain.
“Oh, come on, it's a way out, isn't it? What’s the worst that could happen?” she scoffed, more to herself than to Twitch. Without a second thought, she lunged forward, tucking her wings tightly against her sides and diving headfirst into the dark, round hole.
For a moment, she felt the rush of freedom, sliding down the drain, the cool, damp stone brushing against her fur. But that feeling was short-lived. Suddenly, she came to an abrupt halt. Allura blinked, confused, her front paws dangling in the darkness. Her back paws, however, were very much stuck above, her body wedged tightly at the hips.
“Seriously?” she groaned, her voice echoing through the narrow space. She wiggled her rear, her hindlegs kicking, trying to shimmy herself further down the drain, but it was no use. The drain was just too tight around her hips, and every twist seemed to wedge her in tighter.
Twitch stood at the edge of the drain, staring down at her with a bemused expression. He facepalmed, his ears drooping in exasperation. Allura’s fluffy rear was sticking out of the drain, her tail twitching irritably above her. "Come on, come on!" she snapped, her voice muffled and echoey from within the drain. "Do something, Twitch! Help me out here!"
Twitch sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose as if mentally preparing himself. He took a few steps back, judging the distance carefully, then sprinted forward with all his might. He leaped into the air and landed on Allura’s butt with a loud thud, his big bunny feet stomping down hard. Allura yelped, her tail lashing about like an angry snake.
"Hey! Gentle, you stomp happy rodent!" she snarled, her voice muffled but indignant. She could feel his weight pressing down on her rear as he hopped and stomped, trying to push her further into the drain. Each bounce sent a jolt through her body, and she growled, wiggling her hindquarters, but still, she remained firmly stuck.
Just then, a loud clatter echoed through the bathhouse as a group of centaur guards burst in, alerted by the noise. Their eyes went wide at the sight before them—Twitch hopping on the back half of a snow leopard wedged halfway down a drain. For a moment, they just stared, their expressions a mix of confusion and disbelief. Then they raised their spears, pointing them directly at Twitch.
Twitch let out a panicked, high-pitched scream. He needed to act fast. He glanced down at Allura's rear, then up at the centaurs, and made a quick decision. He crouched low, bending his spring-loaded rabbit legs, then jumped high into the air. Twisting his body mid-air with surprising agility, he spun around and slammed his rump down onto Allura's with a powerful bum bash.
Allura's eyes widened, her breath catching in her throat as she felt the sudden, forceful impact. Her hips squeezed through the tight stone drain with a pop, and she yelped as she was finally pushed down, vanishing into the darkness below. Twitch fell in after her, tumbling head over heels as they both disappeared into the drain.
The centaurs rushed forward, shouting angrily, but it was too late. Allura and Twitch were gone, swallowed up by the dark, winding tunnel. The sounds of the centaurs' hooves pounding against the stone faded away as they were plunged into the cool, damp darkness, falling deeper and deeper into the unknown.
Allura’s heart raced, her paws flailing as they fell, unable to see where the tunnel would lead. The cold, wet stone brushed against her fur as they hurtled downward, twisting and turning through the darkness.
Allura, bold, did take the leap,
A daring dive, a perilous steep
But fate had plans, a cruel decree,
As she was stuck, a tragedy
Twitch, watching on, with wide-eyed stare,
A comical sight, beyond compare
He jumped and stomped, with all his might,
To free her from this dreadful plight
The centaurs came, their spears did gleam,
A perilous scene, a dreadful dream
Twitch, quick and clever, did escape,
A daring feat, a desperate leap
Allura, freed, did tumble down,
Into the darkness, trouble bound
The tunnel's depths did swallow them whole,
A chilling plunge, down the hole
Allura and Twitch hurtled through the narrow sewer tunnel, the damp, grimy stone walls whizzing past them as they careened down the twisting, turning passageway. Allura's claws scraped against the wet surface, trying to slow their descent, but it was no use—the slope was too steep, and they were moving too fast. Her wings, pressed tightly against her sides, felt useless in the cramped space. She clenched her teeth, trying to brace herself for whatever lay ahead. Twitch clung to her fur, his wide eyes darting around as they shot through the dark tunnel, bouncing off the walls with jarring thuds.
And then, suddenly, there was light. The tunnel opened up, and they shot out of the sewer's mouth like a cannonball, splashing down into the shallow waters of a bay. Allura gasped, sputtering as she lifted her head from the salty water, her fur soaked and heavy. Twitch popped up beside her, his fur clinging to his small frame in dripping tufts. They were alive. Miraculously, they were both alive and relatively unharmed.
But Allura was furious. "I cannot believe this!" she growled, her voice echoing over the bay. "I was nearly fed to a cragadile, almost filled with arrows, stuck my hindpaw into a disgusting chamber pot, and then I got humiliatingly stuck in a drain!" She whipped her tail around in frustration, water spraying everywhere. "Could this day get any worse?"
Twitch, sensing the rising storm, tried to calm her down with a gentle wave of his paw, his expression nonverbal but soothing. He reached out, touching her foreleg with a reassuring tap, trying to convey that they were safe now, that things could be worse.
But Allura wasn't having it. "Oh, don’t give me that!" she snarled, glaring down at him. "You fell into the chamber pot, for crying out loud! Why aren’t you as mad as I am?"
Twitch blinked up at her, his whiskers twitching in amusement. He gave a sly grin and reached into his fur, pulling out a small object—something he’d tucked away during their frantic escape. Allura’s eyes zeroed in on it immediately, and her tail flicked with greedy anticipation. It was a bar of soap, swiped from the bathhouse. Twitch waved it in front of her, his grin widening as he watched her expression shift from fury to desire.
Without a second thought, Allura snatched the soap right out of his paws and flopped onto her back in the shallow water. She extended her hindleg toward the sky, stretching it so she could reach it with her front paws, and began furiously scrubbing the damp fur of her paw, her eyes closing in bliss as the grime and filth began to melt away.
Twitch, still dripping wet and feeling more than a little indignant, huffed and puffed out his chest. He’d gone into that chamber pot, and he deserved that soap more than she did. He waited for the perfect moment, then leapt forward, yanking the soap right out of her paws. He hopped a few paces back and started scrubbing at his own fur, his ears flopping wildly as he quickly worked up a lather, his fur becoming foamy and white in places.
Allura’s temper flared, and with a roar, she pounced onto Twitch. The two of them tumbled into the water, paws splashing wildly as they wrestled for control of the slippery bar of soap. Allura's wings flared slightly, trying to give her an edge in the water, but Twitch's nimble footwork kept him just out of her reach. The soap squirted out from between them, shooting up into the air, sparkling in the sunlight.
Twitch darted after it, ears flying behind him, but just as he reached out to catch it, he smacked face-first into the pad of Allura's open front paw. She used her other front paw to deftly snatch the soap out of the air and held it up triumphantly, her grin smug and self-satisfied. "Hah! Superior feline reflexes!" she boasted, turning to look at Twitch with a twinkle in her eye.
Her victorious grin vanished in an instant when she saw Twitch floating face-down in the water. Her heart seemed to freeze in her chest, and her breath caught in her throat. "Twitch!" she cried, panic and genuine concern lacing her voice. She waded through the water toward him, eyes wide with fear. "Twitch, no! Come on, don’t do this to me—"
But before she could reach him, Twitch sprang up like a jack-in-the-box, snatching the soap from her paw and diving into the water with a splash. Allura stood there, stunned for a moment, water dripping from her whiskers. Then, she let out a small, incredulous laugh, unable to help herself. "You sneaky little rabbit," she muttered with a hint of admiration. "A trickster after my own heart."
Twitch surfaced a few feet away, his fur completely covered in soapy lather, looking like a frothy cloud. He tossed the bar of soap back to her with a playful smirk, paddling in the water like a contented duck. Allura caught the soap and rolled her eyes, but she couldn’t suppress the smile tugging at her lips. She lifted her hindpaw again and began to lather it up, rubbing the soap against her fur in vigorous circles, feeling the dirt and grime slough away. Bubbles frothed around her paw, and she dipped it into the water, watching with satisfaction as the filth washed away, leaving her fur clean and gleaming.
Twitch caught her attention with a wave, gesturing with his paw and pointing to her back. He mimed a motion as if he were rubbing fur and wrinkled his nose in disgust. Allura followed his gaze, and realization dawned. "Oh, for the love of—did I miss a spot?" she grumbled, craning her neck to try and reach the spot where he had been riding. But no matter how she twisted and turned, she couldn’t quite get to it. Her frustration mounted, her tail flicking with agitation.
Twitch, seeing his opportunity, hopped up and snagged the soap from her paws again. With a deft leap, he landed squarely on her back, paws already moving to scrub the offending spot. Allura growled, a mix of annoyance and begrudging amusement. "You're making it really hard for me to stay mad at you, you know that?" she muttered, half under her breath.
Twitch just smiled smugly, his ears flopping back with satisfaction as he worked up a good lather on her fur. The soap bubbles drifted in the air around them, catching the sunlight like little rainbows, and for a moment, despite everything, Allura found herself chuckling.
Allura stepped out of the water, shaking the last of the suds from her fur with a vigorous shake. The salty breeze felt cool against her clean fur, and for a brief moment, she allowed herself to savor the feeling of being rid of the filth that had clung to her all day. Twitch, now equally clean, hopped out of the bay behind her, his fur fluffed up as he shook himself dry.
But just as they reached the dry sand, a dark shadow fell over them. Allura’s fur bristled, and she looked up, eyes narrowing. A massive satyr airship hovered overhead, its cannons gleaming ominously in the sunlight.
Before Allura could react, Twitch dove for the beach, scrambling into the sand with a speed only a rabbit could muster. In seconds, he was half-buried, his small frame disappearing under a mound of dirt as he frantically covered himself. His wide, nervous eyes peeked out from beneath the sand as he motioned for Allura to do the same.
“Don’t you dare!” Allura hissed, baring her teeth as she glared at him. “Don’t even think about ditching me, Twitch.”
Twitch shot her a look, his ears flat against his head, and pointed up at the airship. He made a silent motion with his paws, indicating she should try to blend in, maybe disappear from sight.
Allura glanced up again, her eyes catching the deadly cannons mounted on the sides of the airship. Her heart skipped a beat. Cannons. Big, centaur-made cannons that were already lowering toward the beach, their heavy barrels aimed right at them.
Her fur puffed out slightly in alarm. With an awkward huff, she dropped down into the sand and began rolling around, using her paws to throw sand over herself. Her long tail swished wildly, scattering even more sand in all directions.
"See? I'm blending in," she hissed under her breath, trying to maintain her usual haughty attitude, though the sight of those cannons had her nerve faltering just a bit.
Twitch, now buried up to his neck, stuck a paw out of the sand and waved it frantically. Allura paused mid-roll, her paw frozen in mid-air, sand clinging to her purple fur. Twitch’s paw motioned for her to stop moving. She glared at him but reluctantly fell flat on her belly, the sand covering parts of her back and sides. She lay still, hoping desperately that she wasn’t too purple to pass for a rock or a lump of sand.
For a brief, tense moment, everything was still.
Then, with a thunderous boom, a cannonball landed just a few feet away from her, sending sand flying into the air. The force of the impact rattled the ground beneath her paws, and her eyes widened in shock. Before she could react, Twitch erupted from the sand, landing squarely on her back. His powerful hind legs gave her a swift kick that sent a clear message: Run. Now.
Allura didn’t need to be told twice. She leaped forward, her claws digging into the sand as she sprinted across the beach. Cannonballs rained down around her, smashing into the ground with deafening explosions, sending shockwaves and clouds of sand flying in all directions. She zigzagged, her agile body strafing and leaping to avoid the deadly projectiles.
Twitch clung tightly to her back, his ears flat against his head as he kept his balance with surprising ease. He was light, barely noticeable amid the chaos, but his presence spurred her on. She couldn’t afford to slow down, not for a second. The centaurs weren’t holding back, and if one of those cannonballs hit its mark, it would be game over.
Ahead, Allura spotted the dark opening of a cave. Hope surged through her veins. If she could just reach it, they’d have cover. She gritted her teeth, put on a burst of speed, and sprinted toward the entrance, her paws pounding the ground in rapid succession. The cave was so close now, just a few more strides—
A cannonball smashed into the beach behind her, the force of the blast almost knocking her off her paws. But she didn’t stop. With one final leap, Allura dove into the cave, sliding across the stone floor just as another cannonball hit the entrance, causing the rocks to collapse in a heap of rubble.
Allura skidded to a stop, breathing hard as she whipped her head around to look at the now-blocked entrance. The cannon fire ceased, and the sounds of battle faded. She blinked, panting as she realized they were safe.
A triumphant grin spread across her face. "HA!" she cackled, tail lashing in victory. “Take that, you pony-legged, monkey-faced fools!” She sauntered over to the collapsed entrance, swishing her tail dramatically. "You thought you could outwit me? I’m Allura! You’ve got nothing on me!" She flicked her tail in a smug wave, her whiskers twitching with satisfaction.
Confident that no centaurs could pursue them now, Allura turned and strutted deeper into the cavern with a swagger, her paws leaving prints in the damp stone as she surveyed their new surroundings. "Well," she said, her tone still dripping with haughtiness, "this place better lead somewhere decent. I’ve had enough nonsense for one day."
Twitch hopped down from her back, shaking the last bits of sand from his fur. He glanced around the cave warily, his ears swiveling as he listened for any sounds of danger. But for now, it seemed quiet. They were indeed safe. For the moment, at least.
A thunderous boom, a fiery sight,
A cannonball landed, with all its might
The sand flew high, a deafening roar,
As Allura's panic began to soar
She zigzagged and dodged, with nimble grace,
A deadly dance, a dangerous chase
Twitch, clinging tight, a fearless friend,
His presence a comfort, to the very end
The cave, a beacon, a glimmer of hope,
As cannonballs struck, a heavy scope
Allura, determined, reached the door,
As rubble fell, the danger no more
Safe in the cave, they breathed a sigh,
As danger passed, their spirits high
A narrow escape, a lucky break,
As fate intervened, for goodness' sake
Allura stalked deeper into the cavern, her tail still flicking in frustration behind her. The dim light and uneven stone walls were nothing compared to the trials she’d already endured, but she wasn’t exactly thrilled about trudging through some dark, damp cave after almost being obliterated by cannon fire. Still, she moved forward, her paws padding softly over the rocky ground.
After a about an hour of walking deeper into the cavern in contemplative silence, Allura's eyes caught sight of something glimmering in the dim light of the cavern. Nestled among a cluster of snow-covered rocks, sat a large, metallic sphere. It hovered silently, its surface smooth and reflective, gleaming with an otherworldly light. A strange hum seemed to emanate from it, vibrating through the air.
Allura’s eyes widened, curiosity overpowering her caution. "What manner of magic is at work here?" she muttered, padding closer. Twitch’s ears perked up, and his nose twitched rapidly in alarm. He jumped off Allura's back and landed in front of her, furiously shaking his head, ears flopping from side to side like frantic flags in a gale.
Allura rolled her eyes at him. “Oh, come on, Twitch, it’s just a… ball? A very shiny ball. What’s the worst it could do?” She raised a paw towards it, her curiosity piqued.
Twitch’s frantic shaking intensified, his whole body vibrating with panic now. He waved his paws wildly, trying to get her attention, but Allura had already moved closer, her paw reaching toward the metallic surface.
The moment her paw got close, it was yanked forward with a sudden, powerful force. Her paw slapped onto the sphere with a loud, echoing thwack. Allura’s eyes went wide with shock. “What the—?” She tried to pull her paw back, but it was stuck fast to the metal. “Oh, great… just great!”
She tried to use her other forepaw to pry herself free, but as soon as it got close, it too was sucked onto the surface with a sharp, magnetic snap. “Oh, come on!” she growled, her patience wearing thin. She tugged with all her might, but it was no use. Her paws were stuck fast.
Twitch hopped around in a panic, shaking his head, his eyes wide with worry. He seemed to be silently pleading with her to stop whatever she was doing, but Allura, now thoroughly frustrated, ignored him. "Fine, if that’s how you want to play it," she snarled at the sphere, leaping onto it with all four paws.
The moment her hind paws hit the metal, they too were pulled in with a loud slap. Allura found herself splayed awkwardly across the sphere, stuck to it like a cat on a particularly annoying piece of flypaper. She tried to push herself off, but nothing worked. The sphere, sensing her struggle, began to hum louder, vibrating beneath her.
“Let… me... go!” Allura demanded, leaning back with all her weight. The sphere, however, did the opposite. It began to spin, slowly at first, then faster as she rocked back and forth. Allura’s paws finally lifted, but not in the way she wanted; she found herself moving in circles as the sphere spun faster and faster. She was forced to trot, then jog, and finally run just to keep her balance.
“Oh, no, no, no!” Allura yelped, her paws moving frantically now as the sphere picked up speed. She felt like she was running on a giant hamster wheel. The sphere shifted directions, tilting and wobbling, forcing her to run in strange, zigzagging paths.
"Twitch!" she shouted, her voice filled with urgency. “Do something! Stop this crazy thing!”
Twitch, at a loss but determined to help, dashed over and grabbed Allura’s tail with his small teeth. He yanked with all his might. The unexpected tug made Allura lose her footing, and she fell flat against the sphere. The metal spun even faster now, and both she and Twitch were whipped around on its surface like a couple of ragdolls caught in a whirlwind.
"Ahhhh!" Allura shrieked, her claws scraping against the metal as the sphere spun out of control. Twitch clung to her tail, eyes wide, his cheeks puffed out like a squirrel in a snowstorm. The sphere’s speed increased, the hum turning into a high-pitched whine, a sound that seemed to fill the entire cavern.
In a moment of desperation, Allura found just enough leverage to push herself up. She timed her jump perfectly, launching herself off the sphere and latching onto a nearby stalagmite with her forepaws. “Ha! Got it!” she grinned triumphantly.
Twitch fell off and landed on his tail. He looked up and let out a scream at what he saw.
Allura turned and saw what Twitch was screaming at. Her tail was stretched out and still tightly wrapped around the spinning sphere. She stared at it in horror as the sphere continued to rotate, winding her tail tighter and tighter.
“Uh-oh…”
The sphere suddenly changed direction, spinning in reverse, and her tail began to unwind. The stored tension released all at once, and with a tremendous snap, Allura was flung off like a slingshot, her body hurtling through the air, deeper into the cave.
“AHHHHHH!” Allura screamed as she shot over some stalagmites and then plummeted down a steep incline, her limbs flailing as she tumbled. Rocks scraped against her fur, and her body bumped and rolled painfully over the uneven slope. With each rough impact, her already foul mood darkened.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, she hit the bottom with a thud, sprawling out in a most ungraceful heap. Groaning, Allura lay there, dazed, as she tried to gather herself. Her head throbbed, her fur was in complete disarray, and her pride—well, it was practically non-existent at that point.
Twitch, after weaving through the maze of stalagmites, hopped down after her, his light, nimble form descending the slope with far more grace than she had managed. He landed softly beside her, his nose twitching as he checked to see if she was alright. But before he could offer any sign of concern, Allura shot up, fur bristling, and glared at him with fiery golden eyes.
“Why didn’t you try harder to stop me?” she snarled, her voice sharp as her claws, her tail lashing angrily behind her.
Twitch, ever calm, gave her a quiet look, his eyes wide but soft, as if to say, "I tried to warn you" , without needing words. He motioned with his paws for her to breathe, to calm down, but the silent gestures only stoked the fire in her.
Allura’s lip curled, and she raised a paw, claws unsheathed, as if ready to swipe at him in her frustration. "Don't tell me to calm down!" she snapped. "You think this is funny, do you?"
But Twitch, in his usual quiet way, didn’t flinch. Instead, he gently reached up and grabbed her raised paw with his smaller ones, his paws cool and soft against her own. Allura blinked, tilting her head in confusion. "What are you doing?" she growled, but the edge in her voice was already dulling.
Twitch said nothing, of course. Instead, he squeezed her paw slightly, causing her retractable claws to pop out further, gleaming in the low light of the cave. Then, with surprising efficiency, he began to buff her claws with the fur on his forearm, moving with swift, deliberate strokes.
Allura’s mouth opened, but no sound came out as she watched, bewildered. Twitch worked diligently, moving in quick, smooth motions, his fur providing the perfect buffer to polish her sharp claws. He kept his eyes focused on the task, rubbing each claw with the precision of someone who’d done this a hundred times before. The movements were so fast, yet gentle, almost like a tiny artisan working on his latest masterpiece.
The feel of his fur brushing against her claws was oddly soothing, and despite her villainous demeanor and all her pent-up frustration, Allura found herself relaxing under his touch. His soft fur buffed away the grime and dirt from her earlier struggles, leaving her claws gleaming and clean. It was such a simple gesture, but it spoke volumes about their relationship, about how Twitch, in his quiet, unassuming way, always knew how to defuse her anger.
“Seriously?” Allura muttered, her voice softened by surprise. “You're really doing this now?”
Twitch paused, looked up at her, and flashed a cheeky grin, one that spoke volumes without him having to say a single word.
For a moment, Allura just stared at him, her tail twitching with uncertainty. But then, she couldn’t help it—a small smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. It wasn’t often that anyone could get under her skin in such a way that made her actually appreciate it.
She lifted her freshly-buffed paw, admiring the way her claws caught the dim light. Clean. Shiny. Almost elegant. Allura sighed, the last remnants of her earlier anger fading away. “Alright, fine,” she muttered, flicking her tail. “All is forgiven. This time.”
Twitch stood up, his whiskers twitching as if to say "I knew it." He crossed his arms and nodded smugly, still flashing that quiet, knowing grin.
Allura flicked her tail and gestured to her back. “Get up, then. So we can both stay out of trouble.”
Twitch didn’t hesitate. With a quick hop, he bounded onto her back, settling between her shoulder blades with a comfortable familiarity. His soft fur brushed against her as he settled in, and Allura padded forward once more, deeper into the cavern.
Despite her earlier frustration, she now felt a bit more at ease. The darkness of the cave no longer felt so ominous, and with Twitch perched securely on her back, she couldn’t help but feel that, no matter what else this place threw at them, they could handle it. Together.
Allura found a sphere of metal bright,
A glowing orb, a wondrous sight
Her paws were drawn, a strange attraction,
As if held captive, by a mystic action
Twitch tried in vain, to pull her free,
But great force the sphere seemed to decree
She ran and spun, a dizzy whirl,
Until she was thrown with a startled swirl
Deeper into the cavern's depths, she went,
As the sphere's attraction did relent
The floating sphere, a mystery,
A riddle with an answer that will never be
As they ventured deeper into the cavern, the faint sound of bubbling caught Allura’s sharp ears. She twitched, her golden eyes narrowing as she spotted a pool of water up ahead, shimmering under the pale glow of the cave's natural light. An underground spring—its surface constantly disturbed by tiny bubbles rising to the top—lay nestled in a small hollow, the water so clear that they could see the smooth rocks and sand beneath.
Twitch, always curious, wasted no time. He hopped off Allura’s back with a nimble bounce and scurried over to the edge of the spring. His nose twitched, and his large ears perked up at the scent of the cool, fresh water. Without hesitation, he dipped his face down and took a sip.
Almost immediately, his eyes lit up. Twitch's ears stood straight up, and he began thumping his hind foot rapidly on the ground, his little body practically vibrating with excitement. He turned to Allura with a squeak, his wide eyes urging her to try it.
Allura, still standing by the edge, watched with mild amusement, one eyebrow raised. "It's just water, Twitch," she said with a dismissive flick of her tail. “It can’t be that good.”
But Twitch was relentless. He kept thumping his foot, the sound of it echoing through the cave, and he squeaked at her insistently, not taking no for an answer. His excitement was contagious, and though Allura huffed in annoyance, she rolled her eyes and padded over with her usual feline grace.
“Fine, fine,” she muttered, pretending to be above such excitement. “If it’ll get you to stop squeaking.”
She lowered her head toward the bubbling spring, her movements graceful and deliberate as she lapped up the water with slow, elegant tonguefuls. The moment the cool liquid hit her tongue, her entire expression shifted. Her eyes widened in surprise, pupils dilating, and she jerked her head back in a dramatic gasp.
"Oh. My. Stars," she declared with mock awe, stepping away from the spring as though she were stunned by what she had just tasted. "It's… it's… unbelievable!”
Twitch, eyes sparkling with joy, thumped his foot even harder in excitement, squeaking in triumph as if he had just discovered the world’s greatest treasure. He hopped in place, his small body practically vibrating with delight at her reaction.
But then, with a sudden shift, Allura’s expression turned flat. Her gaze leveled, and she said bluntly, "I was lying. It’s just fizzy water, like I thought. I suppose you just have an extreme preference to it. But it's nothing special."
Twitch’s ears drooped immediately, his foot slowing to a stop as the realization sank in. His entire posture deflated, and he looked crestfallen, staring down at the bubbling spring like it had betrayed him. His nose twitched in disappointment.
Allura shrugged again, utterly unbothered by the letdown. “I mean, I’m still thirsty,” she added, and without any further fanfare, she sauntered back to the spring and began drinking again, her tongue dipping gracefully into the bubbling water.
Twitch, still pouting, hopped alongside her and, after a moment of hesitation, took another sip himself. Despite the earlier disappointment, he found himself content just drinking in silence with Allura, the only sound being the soft laps of their tongues in the water.
For a few moments, the cavern was filled only with the gentle sound of the spring bubbling and the quiet, rhythmic laps of water being drunk. It was peaceful, in a strange way, despite the awkwardness hanging in the air after Allura’s teasing. Twitch occasionally sniffed, his small nose twitching, while Allura's ears flicked absently, her tail swishing from side to side as she drank.
Breaking the silence, Allura lifted her head slightly, water droplets clinging to her whiskers, and sighed. “You know, Twitch,” she said between laps of water, her voice oddly contemplative. “For an underground cave, this place isn’t half bad. If it weren’t for that floating sphere I would much rather forget about, I might even say it’s relaxing.”
Twitch, his cheeks puffed up from drinking, squeaked in agreement and wiggled his nose, though he didn’t stop lapping at the water.
Allura tilted her head, thinking aloud as she resumed drinking. “I mean, I would prefer a much colder environment. If I had my ice magic back, I could turn this place into a proper icy lair… But for what it is? It's not exactly bad .” She licked her lips, savoring the taste of the cool, bubbly water, even if she’d never admit it was as refreshing as it actually was.
Twitch paused, looking up at her with wide eyes, and squeaked softly, a sort of quiet acknowledgment. His ears twitched as he gave her a brief, understanding nod before returning to the spring.
Allura gave him a side glance, smirking as she continued to lap up the water. "Glad we're on the same page," she remarked, her tone dripping with her usual mock superiority, though there was a subtle softness behind her words.
The awkwardness that had hung over them after her teasing seemed to dissipate in the quiet companionship of the moment. They didn’t need grand gestures or deep conversations. Just the simplicity of shared silence, a spring, and the occasional flick of Allura’s tail brushing against Twitch’s side as they both drank to their hearts’ content.
In between her laps, Allura spoke again, her voice casual, almost lazy. “So, any bright ideas about how we get out of here, or are you planning on drinking this spring dry?”
Twitch looked up at her, his eyes thoughtful, and then he squeaked softly, giving her a small shrug. Clearly, he hadn’t figured out the next step yet.
Allura chuckled softly to herself, a rare, genuine sound. “Guess we’ll figure it out soon enough,” she said.
Author's Note
This chapter was intentionally mellow and simple, because next chapter is going to be BIG.
Allura cackled, with a wicked glee,
Her wings took flight, with wild abandon free
Her voice joined Twitch's, a chilling sound,
As they burst through, with freedom found
The wind did howl, a chilling blast,
As they emerged, the darkness passed
The sky stretched wide, a boundless sea,
As Allura soared, wild and free
Her wings spread wide, a silhouette,
Against the sky, their freedom met
Together, they, did rise so high,
Their voices echoed, to the sky
The crystal cavern, left behind,
Out of sight, and out of mind
Their voices blended, a chilling song,
As they soared onward, their spirits strong
Allura and Twitch landed with a soft thud amidst the tall, shadowy trees, the branches swaying gently in the wind as if the forest itself could sense their arrival. The dense canopy above hid them from view, casting dappled shadows over the forest floor. Allura folded her wings, taking a deep breath as she glanced over her shoulder, making sure they had successfully escaped the collapsing cavern. Her icy eyes flicked over the landscape, alert and calculating, while her chest rose and fell steadily, regaining composure after their daring escape.
Twitch, on the other hand, was still full of energy, his whiskers twitching as he hopped off Allura’s back with a carefree bounce. He shook his fur out, sending a light dusting of crystal shards flying before turning to grin up at the fierce winged snow leopard. "Whew, that was a close one! But we made it! I knew we would!" he said, his voice brimming with excitement. Then, his eyes twinkled with mischief, and he leaned closer to her. "Hey, Allura," he said with a teasing lilt, "tell me you love me."
Allura’s reaction was immediate and visceral. Her fur bristled, and she recoiled as if he’d just insulted her. She bared her sharp fangs, ears flattening against her skull. "What?! Don’t say that awful word to me!" Her voice was a low, dangerous growl, dripping with disdain. Her eyes narrowed, flashing like a storm about to break. She looked as though she was ready to claw the very idea out of the air.
But Twitch wasn’t fazed. In fact, he only grinned wider, unfazed by her ferocity, and leaned into her side, nuzzling against her fluffy, purple fur. “Oh, please,” he said, his tone light and playful, “I know you love me. You don’t have to say it for me to know. I mean, look at us! Best partners in crime, thick as thieves! You love me.”
Allura gave an annoyed huff, stepping away from him with a flick of her tail. "I am fierce," she snarled, her wings flaring slightly for emphasis. "I am powerful. I am dominating. I take what I want, and I crush those who stand in my way! I don’t have time for... love in my heart. That’s not who I am, and I won’t let some pitiful, sentimental emotion sully my cold, unfeeling nature." Her voice was like ice, and she punctuated the last words with a sharp snap of her jaws, warning him to drop the subject.
But Twitch only laughed—a short, delighted sound that seemed to catch Allura off guard. She blinked, confusion flickering across her face as her ears twitched in irritation. She growled low in her throat, stepping toward him menacingly. “What’s so funny, rabbit?” she demanded, her eyes narrowing dangerously.
Twitch looked up at her, still chuckling, and waved a paw dismissively. “Oh, calm down, you big ball of fur. I’m not saying you’re all warm and fuzzy inside. Because you aren't.” He grinned, hopping onto a low branch so that he was closer to her eye level. “Look, Allura, you’re cold and cruel and everything a great villain should be. But I don’t buy that it’s all you are. I would say that nastiness and cruelty are your. . . hobbies."
Allura stared incredulously at him, the look on her face showing that she was struggling to understand him. "Hobbies?" she echoed.
Twitch nodded and pointed at her, "Yeah, hobbies! You know, something you do to pass the time. You’re great at it, don’t get me wrong, but I know there's more to ya. There's gotta be room for... I don’t know, a little affection in there. It doesn’t ruin your villain cred. It’s just another part of what makes you, well, you. And hey, having someone to stand by you while you take over Equestria? That’s not so bad, right?”
Allura stared at him, her icy mask cracking just a little as she considered his words. She hated to admit it, but there was a certain logic to what he was saying. Sure, she was powerful and ruthless, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t keep a few things—like Twitch’s loyalty—close to her heart. It didn’t mean weakness, and she'd be delusional if she denied all the times she had shown him affection.
After a long moment of silence, Allura’s eyes darted around the forest. She meticulously checked the surroundings, her wings shifting slightly as she scanned the trees for any signs of prying eyes or listening ears. No other creatures. No witnesses. Satisfied, she lowered her head and leaned in close to Twitch, her muzzle brushing against his ear. Her growl was low, and her voice was stiff, almost like it pained her to say it, but she whispered, “Fine. I... I love you, Twitch.”
Twitch’s eyes widened in delight, and his entire body lit up with glee. He bounced off the branch and into the air, twirling in a little hop of joy. “Ha! I knew it!” he squealed, his voice full of triumph. “I love you too, Allura!” He danced around her in wild circles, hopping from side to side as his laughter rang out through the trees.
Allura groaned in embarrassment, her ears flattening against her head as she resisted the urge to pounce on him and shut him up. Her face heated with a mix of frustration and reluctant amusement, and she growled low in her throat, “Don’t make me regret it, Twitch.”
But she didn’t stop him. Instead, she allowed him this one moment of victory, even if it grated against every icy instinct she had. For now, she’d let him celebrate.
But then, out of nowhere, a shimmering portal ripped open the air before them. The edges of the portal glowed a strange violet hue, casting an otherworldly light on the surrounding forest.
Allura narrowed her eyes, her wings instinctively flaring in defense. But then, stepping out of the swirling void was a figure she hadn’t seen in years.
His appearance was nothing short of striking. His fur was a pristine, pale violet with faint lavender spots swirling across his powerful limbs. His piercing violet eyes radiated calm confidence, and his mane—flaming red, gold, and orange—was wild but regal, an untamed fire against the coolness of his coat. His wings, sleek and sharp, looked like they could slice through the sky itself, their undersides gleaming with a fiery iridescence that made him look both graceful and dangerous. His muscular form exuded strength, and the way he moved was with a quiet, assured power. Everything about him screamed royalty, control, and charisma.
Allura stood frozen, her mouth slightly agape, blinking as though unsure of what she was seeing. "Alterro...?" she whispered, confusion flickering across her sharp features.
Alterro gave a long, weary sigh as his eyes locked with hers. "Allura," he began, his tone calm yet filled with a sense of gravity, "the collapse of this reality has warped your mind. You’ve forgotten yourself."
She blinked again, stunned. “W-What are you talking about? What collapse? What do you mean, warped?”
Alterro stepped forward, his gaze softening but never losing its intensity. "I hope my 'Purr-suation' is enough to remind you." His voice dropped to a low, resonant purr, vibrating through the air like a soothing, magical hum. His eyes glowed softly, their violet light brightening as he fixed her with a powerful stare.
Allura’s body stiffened, her pupils shrinking as the glow from Alterro’s eyes reached hers. For a moment, her mind resisted, pushing back against the wave of warmth, but then something inside her shifted. The tight, icy grip that had held her thoughts in place suddenly loosened. Her claws dug into the dirt as she gasped, a flood of clarity crashing into her like a tidal wave.
Her voice was trembling with anger and confusion. "What’s wrong with me? Why did I want to conquer Equestria? I never cared about that!" She shook her head, growling in frustration. "I didn’t come here for this! I came for the Nova Charm, to open a portal... back home! Back to you! I sang a musical number about it back in that stupid pony amusement park! I-!" Her voice caught, and for the first time in what felt like forever, Allura’s eyes shone with vulnerability as she looked at her brother.
The realization hit her hard, her breath hitching in her throat. Alterro was standing right in front of her, after all these years of trying in vain to get back to him. With a sob, Allura’s tough exterior shattered, and she leapt forward, burying her face into his warm, familiar fur. Her tears soaked into his thick coat as she let out a series of ragged sobs, her body trembling.
Alterro wrapped his powerful paws around her, his wings curling protectively as he held her close. His voice was gentle, his purring even softer now. "It’s okay, Allura. Everything’s going to be okay now."
For a long moment, they stayed like that, her sobbing gradually quieting as the sense of safety in his embrace calmed her. Once her breathing had steadied, she pulled back slightly, her eyes shimmering with confusion. "But... how did this happen?" she asked, her voice quieter now but still laced with anger. "How did my motivation change without me even realizing it?"
Alterro sighed again, his eyes dark with an understanding sadness. "It’s because this world is ending, Allura."
Her eyes widened, shock clear on her face. "What? Ending?" she repeated, her voice rising with disbelief.
Alterro nodded solemnly. "This reality is crumbling. The ponies’ world is reaching its final pages, like a journal that’s been written in for too long. And when a world comes to its end, it starts frantically trying to fit in as much as possible—memories, stories, lives, everything gets jumbled. It’s why your mind was affected. Personalities get scrambled when realities lose their structure."
Allura’s brow furrowed as she processed this, the anger simmering in her chest. "My mind was warped because of this... this pony world falling apart?" She growled, her fangs bared, though her frustration was directed more at the situation than at Alterro. "I don’t care about their world collapsing. But messing with my head—" She growled again, her frustration with Equestria reaching new heights.
But then a new thought flickered in her mind, and she turned back to her brother, further confusion creeping into her gaze. "How did you even open that portal? You didn’t have the Nova Charm..."
Alterro gave her a reassuring smile, shaking his head. "I didn’t need it. With this world ending, the boundaries between realities are thinner than ever. My magic was enough to break through the barriers. It also let me look in on you from time to time. I saw several of your setbacks and sticky situations. It spurred me to force my way through even harder. I’d say the fact that I'm standing here right now is proof that it all paid off."
Allura blinked, considering his words. Her anger slowly drained away as relief took its place. She nodded slowly, feeling the weight of everything settle into place. "Then... it’s finally time to go home."
Alterro nodded, a soft, comforting purr rumbling from his chest. "It’s time, sister. You’ve been away far too long."
Allura’s chest tightened with a strange mix of emotions. The thought of leaving the chaos and failure of this world behind filled her with a sense of urgency. "Good. I’ve had enough of this place." She turned to Twitch, who had been unusually quiet, though his eyes were wide with curiosity and uncertainty. He hopped nervously on the spot.
"Am I... coming too?" Twitch asked, his voice small and not filled with the bravado he gained from finally being able to talk that very day.
Allura’s expression softened and an absolutely tender look spread across her face—something she never would have allowed before—and she reached out, grabbing him gently and him pulling him close. "Of course you’re coming, you little rodent. I’m not leaving you behind." Her voice had a rare warmth to it, though she quickly buried it beneath her usual growl.
Twitch beamed, his paws flailing excitedly. “Yes! I knew you’d never ditch me!” he squealed, snuggling up against her, feeling victorious.
Alterro nuzzled Twitch's head between his ears and said, "Thanks, little guy. . .for being there for her."
Allura stared into the portal Alterro had opened up, a sense of true relief flowing through her. Then, with a final look between her brother and her partner in crime, Allura nodded and said, "Let’s go home."
Together, the three stepped through the portal, leaving the crumbling world of the ponies behind them, bound for the snow-leopard realm. A new beginning awaited them, and this time, Allura was ready to reclaim everything she'd lost.
Allura pondered, her anger ceased,
As relief took hold, a welcome feast
"It's time to go," she softly said,
As Alterro nodded, his longing fed
Allura's heart, with mixed emotions stirred,
As she thought of home, a longing word
"Enough of this," she firmly said,
"Let's leave this world, soon to be dead"
"Am I coming?" Twitch did inquire,
His voice was small, filled with desire
Allura nodded, her heart grew warm,
As she pulled him close, to keep from harm
Twitch was thrilled, his joy did gleam,
As they stepped through the portal, a wondrous dream.
A new beginning, awaited them,
As they left this world, a fading gem.
THE END
Author's Note
Congratulations, whoever made G5. By trying to make it a direct sequel to G4, you insulted and angered many of the fans to the point that Izzy's voice actress got booed at a convention. I don't know who is to blame for the failure of G5, but I suppose it doesn't really matter. Maybe G4 was lightning in a bottle. Hopefully G6 will go back to the roots and be a high fantasy with a Megan Williams like figure aiding the ponies. As for G5, my headcannon ending is Alterro picking Allura and Twitch up himself while Sunny and her friends just keep pointlessly fooling around since that's all they're apparently capable off.
