My Little Pony: Equestria Girls-Crystal problem
Chapter 9
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAfter Twilight states that she has an idea, Rarity asks her what it is.
She then outlines her plan, which is essentially a machine that can find the receiving tool based on its resonance value.
The Nexulixium crystal would be the emitter of the signal, while the Echolitium would serve as the power source for the device's operation.
After Sombra tells us that this could work, Twilight then asks Cadance if we could take a small shard of each of these two crystals.
Cadance agrees because she trusts Twilight's knowledge.
They then set to work.
They get a laser cutter from the school's technology room and use it to cut 2 pieces of crystal, about 10 centimetres long.
Twilight then examines these crystals and, in order not to mix them up, labels them with the help of Sombra.
She places the labelled crystals in her shoulder bag and then declares that she can only do the construction at home, as the school does not have the necessary equipment.
They agree with Twilight, and then, after returning the laser cutter to its place, the team exits to the school, and after Cadance closes the school, the team heads to Twilight's home.
In the meantime, she told Cadance that there was no need to return to the school as this crystal was enough.
As her home is only a few houses away, they were there in ten minutes.
From the front, her home is a large, two-storey house with a sizable yard and a shed with a driveway leading up from the road.
The house is mostly in various shades of dark purple and pink, with lots of star-like patterns and decorations.
When they got there, Twilight let them into the house.
Sombra asks at random if Twilight lives here alone.
She tells him that she is with her parents, only they are away because they are celebrating their 20th anniversary in Manehattan and won't be home until the day after tomorrow.
Before leaving with the two crystals, Twilight tells the others about her workshop, which is located in a small shed next to the house:
"Make yourselves at home, but do not disturb the work and do not make a mess."
...............................................................................................................................................................
While Twilight worked on the device, the others talked about this and that.
Sombra, for example, told about her father's strange sense of humour, which made the others unable to keep a straight face.
In about an hour, Twilight finished her device, then laid a small sheet over it for dramatic effect and left the workshop.
When she got into the living room, she noticed that everyone was either giggling or laughing with full-throated laughter.
"What did I miss?" he asked with genuine interest and a sweet smile as he held the sheeted contraption in his hands.
"Mister Sombra told me some funny stories about his father..." explained Pinkie Pie between giggles, "He was a master of jokes!"
"Well, he was more than that..." said Sombra with a smile, and then noticed the covered contraption in Tvilight's hand, which she had just set down on a nearby table, "You finished that in less than an hour?" she asked in amazement, "Well, YOU'RE probably as much of a genius as Princess Twilight Sparkle!"
Twilight snorted, "Pfff, come on, it's nothing! It's not that difficult to make something like this, it's just science! ...But thank you anyway..., - she thanked the kind words and turned to the machine, -And now back to the device.
Here it is..., - she suddenly pulled the sheet off the machine and pointed at it- the Rezonator Mk 100!" she announced with a broad smile.
When they saw the machine, their jaws dropped and they expressed their congratulations, while some of them clapped.
The Rezonator Mk 10 is a 20x20x10 centimetre box with a grey brick body metal casing.
It has a screen on the front, several buttons and switches next to it, and two 10 centimetre antennas on one side, which appear to be slightly tilted upwards, and are angled in opposite directions to each other.
On the opposite side is a brown belt, probably intended to be hung around the neck.
Finally, a crystal protrudes from each of the other two sides, and a label attached to the connection between the crystal and the machine indicates which crystal is which.
Also on these sides are several buttons and, on the right, a black, scrollable switch.
"And will it work?" asked Sunset, walking with the others to the side of the machine for a closer look.
"Hopefully...," Twilight said hopefully, and then pressed one of the buttons on the device.
Soon the machine started up, followed by a loud cheer.
Then a radar map appeared, an exact replica of the map showing the city of Canterlot and its surroundings.
"All we need now is a little fine tuning and hopefully we'll find the place we're looking for..." said Twilight as she fiddled with the machine's switches.
After a little fiddling, a red dot appeared on the map, flashing over an area.
"The Crystal Lake Cave in Canterlot?!" asked everyone, except Sombra, in surprise, -and Sunset turned to Twilight with a doubtful look, "Are you sure this machine works right?" asked Sunset, pointing to the object.
"Absolutely!" declared Twilight firmly, though she didn't understand why the machine was pointing here, "The machine should show the exact coordinates of the beacon...or at least within 10-20 meters."
"Why, what's wrong with this place?" asked Sombra, "Other than the fact that the name makes it the perfect place to make a crystal detector."
"It's a popular tourist attraction near the Everfree forest," Sunset began her explanation, "It's a big open cave, so you can't just build something like that here..."
"Maybe he just delivered the device there?" hypothesized Applejack.
"That would only make sense if there were Echolitium crystals nearby..." explained Twilight, "Although in this situation you could use Nexulixium!"
"And what if the machine was always there, just directly under the cave?" said Sombra, at a guess, "The signal can easily transmit through even 100 meter thick rock."
"Ah, that makes sense!" agreed Twilight to Sombra's suggestion, "The researchers think there's a collapsed cave entrance nearby, but for safety reasons it hasn't been explored yet...
What caused it to collapse, we don't know!" she said, shrugging her shoulders, palms upturned, "It was probably caused by an earthquake more than five hundred years before the discovery of the lake cave.
Well, my guess is that the signal may have come from behind this cave entrance."
"Well, how do we find out?" asked Sunset, "It's getting dark!"
"I've got night vision goggles... -Twilight saw the confused looks on the others, -I've had them made for a few years and have enough for everyone, -she started to list several items as she counted on her finger, -Plus a flashlight, battery, survival kit..."
"We get it, Twi!" said Sunset, with a slight smile.
"If we want to get going," said Rarity, looking at the bus schedule on her phone, "we'd better hurry, the bus is coming in 15 minutes!"
"So we're in?" asked Rainbow Dash, with great enthusiasm, then held out her hand in front of her.
The others did the same, and then, with hands raised together, shouted "Go for it!"

Then they go to get the stuff, but Cadance's phone starts ringing, and she looks and sees that it's her mother. So she stands back and picks up her phone.
"Hi, Mom. What do you want?"
"I just wanted to warn you that it's one o'clock and your father's birthday party starts.
-At the words, a look of surprise appeared on Cadance's face, tinged with mild fear. There followed a moment's silence, whereupon her mother said, with a hint of maternal concern. "You're all right, aren't you?"
"Sorry, I just forgot about it a bit as I had to go to school today for an important matter..." said Cadance, in a slightly sad tone, "But don't worry, I'll be there in 20 minutes. I promise! "
"Relax. It's okay, sometimes we all forget things...
So take your time. I'm waiting for you with lots of love. Goodbye, darling'"
"Bye Mum.", Cadance hung up her phone and, as Twilight and the others returned, turned to them.
"I'm sorry, but you'll regret it terribly if I don't go...," she explained, a little nervously and guiltily, "It's my father's birthday and I completely forgot about it because of what happened yesterday."
"Don't worry, Miss Cadance," said Sombra, in a soothing tone, and with a kindly expression, -We can manage without you... Go and enjoy yourself.
And don't worry, I'll take care of them..."
"Actually, we'll take care of you!" said Rainbow Dash pompously, and then pointed to her necklace, "You know, the necklaces!"
Twilight gave her a stern look, then scolded her in a stern tone.
"Dash! You shouldn't be talking like that in front of this crystal!" she pointed at the crystal, "You want to give the watcher...or watchers!"
"Don't worry...," said Sombra, "Crystals are not capable of voice communication...
And in this case," he pointed to Rezonator, "the strong vibration wave blocks the crystal's ability."
"Thanks again for your help!" said Cadance.
"Not at all. Just have a good time and I wish your father a happy birthday!" replied Sombra, and the others wished him similar wishes.
Cadance then said goodbye to them and thanked them once again for their help, who assured her that they were happy to help, and then returned her thanks.
Twilight hands out walkie talkies to everyone for communication purposes.
After explaining to Sombra how they work, the group packed up and left the house, walking to the bus stop across the street.
Just as they exited, Cadance boarded the bus and, after sitting down, waved to them, who waved back.

Meanwhile, from the entrance to the cave, you can see the robot working on a piece of machinery about 5 metres in front of you.
This machinery is located right next to the left wall of the cave.
Next to the rig is a piece of furniture resembling an electric chair.
From the entrance to the cave, you can see the cave in its entirety, which is the size of a large room.
(average size: 20 metres (from the entrance, left wall to the right wall) x 10 metres, and 6 metres.)
The cave is irregular, with red crystals hanging down from the dome-shaped roof.
Looking forward, a cave wall is visible on the left, running parallel to the left side of the cave entrance.
This wall is so smooth that it is impossible to believe it could have formed naturally.
On the far side from the cave entrance is a right-angled corner with a large monitor set at an angle.
Next to it is a stand with a light blue crystal on it.
The stand is connected to the monitor by cabels.
Moving to the right, there is a lamp in the middle of the room that illuminates the cave in white.
Beyond it is a piece of furniture resembling a mirror, with its back directly against the cave wall. The mirror part of this piece of furniture is a hexagon with an edge, about 2 metres high and 1 metre wide by 2 centimetres thick.
The rim is made up of a large emerald-coloured crystal, 5 centimetres wide and completely smooth. The emerald-coloured pedestal is 1.5 metres in diameter and 30 centimetres high.
The pedestal also features a symbol that appears to match the symbol on the robot's body.
The part between the raven and the eight-pointed star is partially obscured by a small grey metal plate.
The cave wall behind the mirror is a natural formation, and on the wall directly behind the mirror is a vein of red crystals that runs up the wall to the red crystals.
Standing in front of the mirror, to the left, in an irregular corner of the cave, is a machine with a huge yellow crystal on it. Part of the machine is futuristic in design, and there is a small monitor on it.
On the monitor is a bar graph showing the energy reserve of the crystal, which is at 90, sorry, now 91%.
From this, wires run to the large monitor, the lamp and the machine.
On the other side of the mirror, directly 3 metres from the cave wall, is a modern desk, apparently made of metal.
The right side of the desk is directly adjacent to the right side of the cave.
The robot suddenly stops working and starts talking.
"Fortunately, the modification for my new design can be done more quickly on the machine made for my older design...," he chuckled, "What a pleasure it will be to avenge you, LITTLE PRINCE..." he said in a mocking, delighted tone.
Then he starts towards his desk.
On it is a piece of machinery with a tank attached to it, in which a green liquid is bubbling.
"Time to unload the traps!" he announced, then grabbed the machine, and then the apparently just-assembled machinery stored next to the desk.
These are 10x25 square centimetres with 3 crystals wired into them.
On one side is a flame-coloured crystal, which sits directly next to a red crystal.
At the other end is a light blue crystal connected to the red crystal by a wire via a transmitter.
With these objects, he finally walked out the entrance to the cave.
