Young Six’s Journey: Adventure in the Kanto Region
All Aboard the S.S Anne!
Previous ChapterThe next morning, the Young Six woke up bright and early, ready to head to Vermillion City. After packing their belongings and healing their Pokémon, they left the Pokémon Center and began exploring Cerulean City, searching for the next route.
However, after walking in circles for a while, Gallus noticed a house that looked like it had been broken into.
“Hey guys, have you seen this building before?” Gallus asked curiously.
The others turned to look, seeing the shattered windows and glass scattered across the ground.
“No, I don’t think so,” Smolder replied. “But we were pretty focused on beating the gym, so maybe we just didn’t notice it.”
The group stood in front of the damaged house, exchanging uncertain glances. After a few moments, Gallus took the lead, mustering up his courage as he gently pushed open the door.
Inside, the place was a mess—books had been knocked off the shelves, a potted plant lay broken on the floor, and standing in the middle of the room was a lone Team Rocket member.
The grunt’s eyes widened as he spotted the group. “Hey! What do you think you’re doing here?! Mind your own business, kids, or you’ll regret it!” He reached for a Pokéball.
Silverstream stepped forward, determination in her eyes. I’m not sure if you’re the one responsible for this, but you just threatened my friends, and I won’t allow that. Wartortle, let’s go!”
She tossed out her Pokéball, and Wartortle emerged, ready for battle.
The grunt scoffed. “Alright, kid, you asked for it! Go, Machop!”
He threw his Pokéball, and a small, light gray, muscular Pokémon appeared. Silverstream pulled out her Pokédex to scan it.
Machop, the Superpower Pokémon.
Loves to build its muscles. It trains in all styles of martial arts to become even stronger.
“Machop, use Karate Chop!” the grunt commanded.
Machop lunged at Wartortle, landing a powerful strike that made Wartortle stumble.
Silverstream quickly reacted. “Wartortle, use Bubble Beam!”
Wartortle shot out a stream of bubbles, hitting Machop, though it wasn’t enough to bring it down.
The grunt clenched his fists. “Again, Machop!”
Machop continued its relentless attacks, striking Wartortle multiple times. Silverstream bit her lip, she had to think of something fast. Then, an idea struck her.
“Wartortle, block the attacks with your shell!”
Wartortle turned away, presenting its sturdy shell. As Machop brought its hand down for another Karate Chop, a loud cracking sound echoed through the room, followed by a pained yelp. Machop stumbled backward, clutching its swollen hand and blowing on it desperately.
“Quit fooling around, Machop!” the grunt barked, but Machop ignored him, still running in circles in pain.
Silverstream seized the opportunity. “Quick, Wartortle, Water Gun!”
Wartortle unleashed a jet of water, hitting Machop directly and knocking it out.
The grunt growled, recalling his Pokémon and pulling out another Pokéball. “You think you’re tough? Go, Drowzee!”
A bipedal, yellow Pokémon with a long snout emerged onto the battlefield. Silverstream scanned it with her Pokédex.
Drowzee, the Hypnosis Pokémon.
Puts enemies to sleep, then eats their dreams. Occasionally gets sick from eating bad dreams.
“Drowzee, use Pound!”
Drowzee charged forward, ready to strike.
“Dodge, Wartortle, and use Bide!”
Wartortle swiftly avoided the attack, a red aura surrounding its body as it stored energy.
“Now, while it’s charging up, use Confusion!”
Drowzee wiggled its arms up and down, attempting to confuse Wartortle, but it failed.
“Again, Drowzee!”
Drowzee repeated the move, but once again, it failed to confuse Wartortle.
Silverstream pumped her fist. “Alright, Wartortle, let’s go!”
Wartortle unleashed a bright beam of energy, striking Drowzee and knocking it out instantly.
The grunt scoffed, recalling his Pokémon. “Defeated by a four-legged brat?!” he snarled, before dashing out the back door through a hole in the wall, leaving behind a TM.
“Yeah, you better run!” Gallus shouted, raising his fist. He turned to Silverstream with a smirk. “Nice work, Silverstream.”
“Thanks, Gallus!” Silverstream beamed before picking up the TM. “What’s this?”
She inserted it into her Pokédex, revealing the move Dig.
This move allows your Pokémon to dig underground, avoiding attacks before striking from below.
Silverstream’s eyes lit up. “That sounds awesome!”
“That does sound awesome!” Sandbar agreed. “Who can learn it?”
Silverstream checked the compatibility list. “Looks like Charmander, Wartortle, Growlithe, Geodude, and Jigglypuff can.”
The others looked at each other but shook their heads.
“You defeated that Team Rocket grunt, so I think you should keep it,” Sandbar said with a smile.
Silverstream nodded, deciding to teach Dig to Wartortle.
Wartortle learned Dig!
With that, the Young Six followed the grunt’s escape route, emerging into the bright daylight.
As they traveled Route 5, the group encountered several Pokémon. Ocellus caught an Oddish, and with Ocellus’s help, Gallus managed to capture an Abra before it could Teleport away.
After some more battles and exploring, the group stumbled upon a dark underground staircase leading into a tunnel.
Gallus hesitated. “Are we sure we have to go down there?”
Ocellus checked the map. “Yep, this is the route to Vermillion City.”
“Then what are we waiting for? Yona wants to fight gym!” Yona declared, charging forward, only to trip on her own mane and tumble all the way down the stairs.
The group gasped and rushed after her, only to hear a loud thump at the bottom.
“Yona! Are you okay?!” Silverstream called out.
Yona groaned but quickly got back up. “Yona is fine! It will take more than stairs to hurt Yona!”
Everyone sighed in relief before noticing a woman standing nearby.
The woman turned to them. “Excuse me, does anyone have a Nidoran Male?”
The group looked at each other before Smolder stepped forward. “I do. Why?”
The woman smiled. “I was wondering if you’d like to trade your Nidoran Male for my Nidoran Female.”
“A Nidoran Female?” Smolder asked curiously, looking it up on her Pokédex.
Nidoran (Female), the Poison Pin Pokémon.
Although small, its venomous barbs render this POKéMON dangerous. Unlike the male counterparts, the female has smaller horns.
“So, do you want to trade?” The woman asked Smolder.
Smolder took out her Pokéball, looking at it thoughtfully. “…I don’t know. Spikoran was my first caught Pokémon…”
The woman nodded understandingly. “I promise I’ll take good care of him.”
Smolder hesitated, then handed over the Pokéball. “Alright, but please take care of Spikoran.”
The trade was completed, and Smolder received Spot, the Nidoran Female in return.
“Thank you! Please take care of her,” the woman said warmly.
Smolder smiled faintly. Yeah… you too.”
With that, the Young Six continued their journey, eager to reach Vermillion City. Along the way, they battled trainers, caught new Pokémon, and took in the sights of the region. Finally, they arrived in Vermillion City, home of the Thunder Badge.
Their first stop was the Pokémon Center to heal up after their long trek. Once they were ready, they set off toward the Vermillion Gym.
On their way, they ran into a fisherman who was excited to tell them all about his fishing stories. Most of the group either zoned out or looked bored—except for Silverstream, who hung on to every word, completely fascinated. After his long-winded stories, he handed each of them an Old Rod as a gift.
As they continued exploring the city, Gallus wandered over to a trading post, browsing the available trades. Most of the Pokémon on offer didn’t interest him, but then, something caught his eye—a light brown duck-like Pokémon with a white underbelly, holding a leek.
Curious, he pulled out his Pokédex:
Farfetch’d, the Wild Duck Pokémon.
The sprig of green onions it holds is its weapon. It is used much like a metal sword.
A trader standing nearby noticed Gallus’s interest. “Ah, I see you’re eyeing Farfetch’d! If you have a Spearow, I’d be willing to trade.”
Gallus pulled out his Spearow’s Pokéball, considering it for a moment. Then he grinned. “A Spearow, huh? Sure, you’ve got yourself a deal.”
They exchanged Pokémon, and Gallus smirked, holding up his new Farfetch’d.
“Pleasure doing business with you!” the trader said, waving as Gallus rejoined the group.
Finally, the Young Six arrived at the Vermillion Gym, only to find their path blocked by a tree.
Gallus growled in frustration. “I’ve had it with these stupid obstacles!” He slashed at the tree with his claws. Nothing happened.
Smolder stepped up. “Move aside, I’ll just burn it down.” She inhaled deeply and blasted a stream of fire, but the tree remained completely untouched.
Yona, now determined, stomped her mighty hooves into the tree.
Still nothing.
“Okay, what is this thing made of?!” Ocellus examined the tree closely.
Just then, a stranger approached. “Trying to get into the Vermillion Gym, are you?”
“Yeah,” Sandbar said. “Any idea how we get past this stupid tree?”
The stranger nodded. “The only way through is by using Cut, a move that lets Pokémon slice through small trees like this one. You won’t get through with brute force. If you’re looking for Cut, the captain of the S.S. Anne has it.” He gestured toward a massive cruise ship docked nearby.
“Awesome! Thanks for the tip!” Sandbar said, leading the group toward the ship.
As they stood at the docks, looking up at the massive S.S. Anne, Ocellus gasped. “Look at the size of this thing!”
“Yeah, great, it’s huge,” Gallus muttered. “But how are we supposed to find the captain in there? It’s going to take forever.”
Sandbar thought for a moment, then suggested, “We’ll split into two groups. Gallus, Silverstream, and Yona go left, while Ocellus, Smolder, and I go right. We’ll meet back here once we find him.”
Everyone nodded and set off. Along the way, they battled trainers on the ship, earning experience and growing stronger. After some time, they finally reached the captain’s quarters.
Just as they were about to knock on the door, a familiar voice called out behind them.
“Well, well, trying to get Cut, huh?”
They turned to see Ace, standing confidently with his Eevee at his side.
“Ace!” Silverstream said excitedly. “What are you doing here?”
“Checking out the S.S. Anne,” Ace replied. “Figured there might be some strong trainers on board.” He smirked. “And I just happened to spot you guys. Since we’re here, how about a rematch?”
Silverstream giggled. “Oh, you’re on!”
Gallus shot her a confused look. “Wait, you battled Ace already?”
Silverstream nodded proudly. “Yep, and I won!”
Gallus stiffened. “Wait, what?! You already beat him?! Okay, no way I’m letting that slide, I want my own rematch!”
Ace grinned. “I like your energy. Let’s see if you’ve gotten any stronger.” He pulled out a Pokéball. “Go, Ivysaur!”
Gallus smirked. “A Ivysaur, huh? Ha! Growlithe, let’s go!”
Growlithe appeared, barking confidently at its opponent.
Ace pointed forward. “Ivysaur, Vine Whip!”
Ivysaur lashed out its vines, striking Growlithe.
Gallus reacted quickly. “Growlithe, Bite the vines!”
Growlithe snapped its jaws around Ivysaur’s vines, forcing it to retract them.
Ace called out, “Ivysaur, Tackle!”
Gallus countered, “Growlithe, Bite again!”
The two Pokémon charged at each other, clashing in a fierce exchange of attacks. After several more powerful blows, Growlithe emerged victorious.
Gallus grinned. “Yes! Let’s go, Growlithe!”
Ace smirked. “Not bad. But don’t get cocky. Poliwag, let’s go!”
Ace threw his next Pokéball, revealing a small tadpole-like Pokémon with a swirling pattern on its belly.
Gallus checked his Pokédex:
Poliwag, the Tadpole Pokémon.
Its newly grown legs prevent it from running. It prefers swimming over walking.
Gallus recalled Growlithe and sent out his newest Pokémon. “Dux, let’s go!”
His Farfetch’d landed on the battlefield, twirling its leek like a sword.
Ace smirked. “A Farfetch’d, huh? That’s a rare one. Let’s see how you use it. Poliwag, Bubble!”
Poliwag fired a stream of bubbles, but Farfetch’d shook it off.
“Dux, Peck!” Gallus commanded.
Farfetch’d dove forward, aiming its sharp beak at Poliwag.
But Ace was ready. “Hypnosis!”
Poliwag’s spiral pattern began to glow, and Farfetch’d suddenly slowed before collapsing asleep.
Gallus’s eyes widened. “Oh, come on! Wake up, Dux!”
Poliwag didn’t wait. It continued blasting Farfetch’d with Bubble, eventually knocking it out.
Gallus groaned. “Ugh… Alright, Blink, let’s go!”
His Abra hovered onto the field.
Ace smirked. “You do realize Abra only knows one move, right?”
Gallus smirked. “Yep! But let’s make this interesting. Blink, Teleport!”
Abra began teleporting around the battlefield, dodging attacks—but not fighting back. Eventually, Poliwag landed a hit, knocking Abra out.
Gallus sighed in defeat. “I… forfeit.”
Ace looked at him. “Losing isn’t failure. It’s an opportunity to get stronger.”
Gallus took a deep breath and nodded. “Yeah… I’ll train harder. Next time, I will beat you.”
Ace grinned. “That’s the spirit.”
The five waved goodbye to Ace, except for Gallus, who remained standing there, staring at the ground.
Sandbar walked over, concern written on his face. “You okay, Gallus?”
Gallus shrugged, not meeting his gaze. “Yeah, I’m fine. Come on, let’s just get this stupid move and fight that gym.”
The others exchanged worried glances but decided to move forward, opening the door to the captain’s quarters.
As they stepped inside, the captain, a cheerful, bearded man, greeted them with a smile. “Ahoy, trainers! What can I do for ye today?”
“We’re here for the move Cut. Someone told us you have it,” Sandbar explained.
“Ah, yes, I do,” the captain nodded. “But I’ve got a bit of a problem—my back’s been killing me, and I can’t bend down to reach it in the lower cabinet. A good back rub would fix me right up!”
The six stared at each other, hesitating.
Yona, never one to back down from a challenge, stepped forward. “Yona will help!”She placed her hooves on the captain’s back and—CRACK!
The captain groaned, then let out a relieved sigh. “Ahhh… that’s much better! Thank ye kindly!” He handed over the HM. “Here you are—use it well.”
The group thanked him before leaving the ship. As they stepped onto the dock, they spotted Ash, Brock, and Misty approaching.
Gallus perked up. “Ash, buddy! How’s it going?”
Ash grinned. “It’s going great! Check this out!”He held up a Thunder Badge, which resembled a sunburst or flower. “I beat Lt. Surge!”
“Wow, that’s awesome!” Silverstream beamed. Then Gallus tilted his head. “Wait… how did you get into the gym? There’s a big tree blocking the entrance.”
Ash blinked. “A tree? Oh… that tree. We just walked around it.”
The Young Six collectively faceplanted.
“… We could have just walked around it?” Smolder muttered.
Ash chuckled. “Yeah, it wasn’t that hard.”
Sandbar groaned. “Well, that’s embarrassing.”
Ash shrugged. “Anyway, are you guys here to board the S.S. Anne too?”
“No,” Sandbar replied. “We just needed Cut from the captain so we could get into the Vermillion Gym.”
Ash nodded. “Oh, gotcha. We actually got our tickets from those two.” He gestured toward a pair of oddly familiar figures in the distance.
Yona and Silverstream squinted. “Wait… they look like—“
“Wanna join us for the Pokémon Trainer Party onboard?” Ash asked.
Silverstream shook her head. “Nah, we already battled a bunch of trainers here. We’re heading to the gym now.”
Ash grinned. “Your loss! Alright, guys—let’s go!” He ran toward the ship, with Misty and Brock following close behind.
The Young Six turned back toward the gym, finally ready to claim their next badge. With the HM in hand, they cut down the tree blocking their way and stood before the entrance.
Sandbar looked at his friends, determination in his eyes. “Alright, everypony—ready?”
“Ready!” the others replied in unison.
With that, the Young Six stepped inside, prepared to take on their next challenge.
As the journey continues…
