Somewhere in the northern equestrian plains

Two miles away from a Royal Equestrian army base.

Three months after succession

Two royal guards stood upon a large grave.

It was filled with twelve ponies, some of which wore strange clothing.

The younger of the two guards, Lucky dawn, a mare, struggled to hold the urge to vomit.

"Dear celestia..." She muttered, as her friend, fancy hooves, tapped her side with his hoof.

"Don't morn them, there traitors" He said with a scowl as he turned back to fetch something.

"I know, but, some of them look like civilians!" Lucky dawn said exasperatingly, while flaying her wings.

"They were spies" Fancy said as he came back with a box of white powder held in his magic.

"Those d.s.e cunts sure do love there spies!.." Fancy said with an annoyed tone.

"Oh" Lucky said as she looked back at the grave.

'Then.. it's fine' She thought to herself.

"Mind helping me out?" Fancy asked as he gestured several boxes behind them.

"Sure" Lucky responded as she quickly flew and grabbed one of the boxes.

"Thanks, just pour it on the bodies" Fancy said as he did just that with his box.

"What's it supposed to do?" Lucky asked as she flew above the grave and dumped the powder from the box she was holding.

"It supposedly dissolves the bodies, at least that's what our officer said" Fancy responded with a shrug.

Lucky didn't say anything else as the two dumped box after box of the powder.

"That's all of it" Fancy said as lucky landed on the ground.

"Do we head back now?" She asked.

"Yeah, and we should probably hurry, looks like I lost track of time" Fancy responded as he looked up at the sky.

"Is something happening today?" Lucky asked as both guards started making their way back to their base.

"We should be getting sent down south I think" Fancy responded, wich caused lucky to gasp.

"South?! W- were getting sent to the frontline?!" She exclaimed, as fancy stared idly.

"Yes, why did that get you so worked up?" He asked.

"I just, don't want to fight..." Lucky said with a somber tone, as fancy chuckled.

"You didn't really complain about dumping that acidic powder on the bodies though" He said, as she stared ahead.

"Well," Lucky began to say.

"They were traitors, and besides, I wasn't the one who killed them" She continued as one of her wings outstretched and pointed at herself.

"I just don't think I have what it takes to take a life, especially another pony's!" She finished.

"So why join the military?" Fancy asked with a smirk.

"You know my dad practically forced me to" Lucky responded with a huff.

"And that was before everything with the portals and the rebellion!"

"Fair" Fancy said as they continued walking.

...

"I've got an idea" Fancy hooves piped up.

"An idea?.."

"Yes, to put your mind at ease about any pony you may kill" Fancy said as he turned his head to look at lucky.

"And that is?"

"Just remember that they are traitors, and, if you didn't kill them, they would have killed you" Fancy said with a nod.

...

"That's.. morbid" Lucky said with a blank stare.

"Yeah.. but it'll help" Fancy said as the two went quiet again.

"What took you two so long? Bell was about to send somepony to get you" Merry mane asked as both Fancy and Lucky made it back to their base.

"I lost track of time" Fancy said as Merry eyed the two curiously.

"Really? You guys didn't, you know..." Merry asked with a hint of embarrassment, making Lucky's face flush red.

"Of course not! Do you even know what we did? I don't think any pony would want to mate after what we saw!" Lucky exclaimed angrily as she stormed off.

...

"What did you guys do?" Merry asked as she and Fancy started.

"You don't know? Oh, right, your a new recruit, I forgot" Fancy said as he rubbed the back of his head.

"We get rid of enemy bodies"

"Oh, they've already made it this far out?" Merry asked.

"Yes, surprisingly, but it's fine, we've already got our own spies imbedded in their forces, the rebels aren't smart enough to find them" Fancy said confidently as they continued walking.

Lucky, alongside Fancy, Merry, and every pony else in the base stood outside, fully geared, waiting for the carriages and airships that would take them to Phillydelphia.

They couldn't use the train, since the D.S.E disabled it.

"Nervous?" Fancy asked.

"N- na, I'm fine" Lucky responded with a contradicting nervous chuckle.

"Don't worry, the princess said that even though these rebels might pose a problem, they should be squashed by hearths warming" Fancy said reassuringly.

"Really? How do you know?" Lucky asked.

"I heard it from one of those machines that were gifted to us, pretty sure it was called radio" Fancy responded.

"Oh, well that's good, still, I'm not sure if I'm ready to fight" Lucky said with a sigh.

"It's fine, the d.s.e may act all high and mighty, but they're not organized at all, and don't even have proper military training, they won't stand a chance"

"I don't know, I've been hearing some pretty wild rumors about them" Merry spoke up.

"Like what?" Fancy curiously asked.

"For starters, they supposedly have foreign support!" Merry started saying dramatically, almost like she was telling a horror story.

"And, that they have some pretty nasty weapons!" Merry finished.

While Fancy was amused by these supposed rumors, Lucky couldn't help but immediately think the worse, making her anxiety worse.

"And where did you hear these rumors?" Fancy asked.

"My cousin said she saw it, told me in a letter" Merry responded with a shrug.

The trio went quiet, and after some time of waiting, the first transport chariots started to arrive.

Lucky, Fancy, Merry, and a fourth unamed guard boarded a chariot.

Lucky started blankly at the country side as the chariot lifted into the air.

"Hey" Fancy spoke, making Lucky turn towards him.

"It'll be fine, besides, we'll go through this together!" Fancy started to say enthusiasticly.

"That's right!" Merry joined in.

"After all, what are friends for?" Fancy finished.

Lucky couldn't help but smile.

He was right, even though she was afraid of the coming months, she wouldn't be alone, her friends would be with her!

"Thanks guys, I almost feel exited about this because we'll do it together" Lucky said with a hum as the three friends continued their conversation, and the chariot continued on its route.
