Since that day, a rumor had spread that if one were to go to the highest hill of Canterlot at midnight and declare themselves the fastest racer, the Speedy Slime Specter would appear and challenge you to a race. Win, and receive her board. Lose, and they would possess a haunting fate…
That was what led Rainbow Dash skating up the tallest hill of Canterlot in the middle of the night, accompanied only by the sound of crickets, the quiet hum of the streetlights, and the dim glow of the moon. Of course, part of Dash’s mindset was from a bit of skepticism. No way could a slime ghost be real. That was reserved for 80’s horror comedies and weird fetish stories on the internet.
Soon, the street became darker as the street lights got more scarce, and soon, Rainbow found herself looking down the tall, barely lit hill while checking her watch under the glow of a single streetlight. Her heart beat quickly as she watched the seconds tick on. She was so glad no one was there to see her do what she was about to do. She smacked her own lips dry and took a deep breath.
Midnight.

“What? You thought you could just summon me for a laugh? Ha!!” The slime girl rolled her… Eyes, or rather the indentations that resembled eyes, as she held up a board that looked absolutely pristine. “Figures you’d back out. You look like a girl who’d struggle to outrace a granny on a mobility scooter.”
“H-Hey!!” Dash huffed in an offended tone, turning back at the specter in frustration. “Don’t talk to me like that! I’m one of the fastest in town! No one can beat me!”
“One of the fastest, but there’s only room for one at the top,” the slime girl leaned in, a smug grin spread across her gooey face. “And if you’re not first, you’re last. So, do me a favor, Snail Fail, and get off my hill.”
“... Oh, that’s it.” Rainbow Dash dropped her skateboard down and pointed to the slime girl. “I don’t care if you’re a ghost, you’re not gonna beat me!”
“Heh, that’s more like it…” The slime girl dropped her board down and hopped on it. “And you know what? Just to be charitable, I’ll give you a 10-second head start. Go on, impress me.”

I’ll be down this road in ten seconds flat~” As Dash looked down at the winding road lit by only a few lights, a feeling in the pit of her stomach caused her to second guess her decision. It was a street she was pretty familiar with when it came to racing, having done so in the past. Mysteries of Canterlot, huh?” Applejack rubbed her chin, looking back at the slab and then turning forward once more. “Ah didn’t reckon this city havin’ much mystery ‘bout it… But, with that Camp Everfree thing, maybe ya’ll got a point… Think ya can come an’ help us with this here situation?”

“It’s a big leather book with gold trimming and lettering on the front. You can’t miss it!” She then gasped as her voice got quiet. “Hey, Spike! Get me more batteries from my drawer! I’ll let you know how it goes when I head over to help tomorrow, Applejack!”
“Heh, alrighty, Twi. See ya then,” Applejack nodded before hanging it up. That wasn’t the most helpful, but she felt like she got something out of that. Still, even if she was going to have to wait, looking into this thing might be important. Ah should head to the library, she nodded to herself, rationalizing that it was better to be prepared for tomorrow. She turned back to Big Mac, who seemed to have been staring at nothing. “Hey, Big Mac!!”

It looked to be made of the same material as the tablet, and much like the tablet, it had symbols carved in it that seemed… Just lovely to look at… Whispers echoed in his mind as he ever so slightly nodded his head. It all made sense. He needed to… Make it all whole… And return the slab…
He took slow steps forward, hands outstretched with the slab still gripped tight. Everything that he was doing made perfect sense. This needed to be put back. The door needed to be made whole. He had the part to put it there. Maybe on the other side, he’d be free… Yes… Set free… By making the door whole…
The pink slab slid in perfectly, the cracks that once formed glowing before becoming sealed up, leaving the door as new as if it were carved yesterday. She wasted no time in opening and flipping through the book for any pictures that looked like that pink slab. It didn’t take her long to find her answer.
The Temple of Mum’sses. Long ago, in times long forgotten, there’d been whispers of a kingdom where all in its domain were effeminate, even the males. But while the kingdom fell, the influence of Mum’sses remained. Whispers came from the tomb, and all who dared listen would emerge twisted in feminine ways, smiling and murmuring sweet words of their queen. Soon, a cult formed around Mum’sses, moving the sarcophagus about in secret even as the legend of Mum’sses turned to dust. They would always be in the shadows, recruiting and moving about, making more and more changes. The last known hidden temple was within a forest of Canterlot, wherein the cult would face a mysterious end, and whose door was broken to prevent the mummy’s influence from spreading any further. Even still, it was said that as they moved to bury it, that slab still whispered in their ears, attempting to influence them before they sealed away the force for good…
After reading through all of the tale, Applejack’s eyes were as wide as saucers. As much as it seemed far-fetched, it had some points that seemed a bit too convenient to be a coincidence. Worst of all, if it was correct, that meant that she’d just left the hypnotic slab with her brother out in the open.
“... Aw, heck…” Applejack mumbled before slamming the book closed, shoving it back in place, and rushing out to the sounds of shushing aimed at her, which she dutifully ignored. She focused more on hopping in her truck and making a mad dash for the farm.

The first thing that tipped her off that something was wrong was the pink mist that was gradually creeping in. It was barely noticeable from a distance once she arrived, but she figured it was better safe and sorry and strapped her mouth up with a bandana before venturing back towards the dig site.
Ah dunno why ah’m headin’ this way… She tried to rationalize to herself as she walked forth. Big Mac probably put it in the barn, away from everyone. Ain’t no way he stayed too close to it…
Even this couldn’t dissuade her doubt, as she still kept walking towards the original founding spot of the slab, and while it wasn’t there, the fog was certainly getting thicker. This got her out of that mindset of lying to herself about the reality. Big Mac was probably in trouble, and she was going to need to find him and get him out. Stealing her resolve, she pressed on with little fear.
She’d come across the source of the pink mist, a large hole which definitely wasn’t there before. They checked for sinkholes and she was sure this wasn’t there. In her own rationalization, this meant it must’ve been some kind of magic from that slab. Gotta focus… She thought as she tied down a stake with a rope attached and threw down the line. At the very least, she wouldn’t need to fall to descend.
As she eventually descended into the hole and hit the bottom with more ease than her brother, she took a gander at her surroundings and noticed the soft, dark pastel look of everything, little light able to illuminate everything as she tried to see through the fog. Although she couldn’t parse much of the details, she at least got a look at the fog’s source: The large door, left cracked open which she could easily fit through!
Upon entering, she was met with a shocking sight: A woman, easily a couple heads taller than Big Mac, looming beside her sarcophagus, jet black skin and whitened eyes wrapped up in silky pink bandages as she hummed to herself. It didn’t take her long to spot Applejack.

Once it was opened, Applejack caught sight of its contents: another mummy, easily up to the hips of Mum’sses, with long, blonde hair and swirly pink eyes being the only visible parts of the body that weren’t wrapped in pink bandages. Even his crotch was bound in some kind of gold-plated codpiece, displaying a circular bulge. One of those bindings was gripped in Big Mac’s arm, the source that stopped Applejack’s kick in her hands.

Her eyes scanned the different books, when her gaze came upon the largest at the top, jutting out. Pure leather, gold trim, it screamed super spooky and not something to be touched…
“Perfect!” She decreed as she hoisted the book up before leaping off the ladder onto a nearby chair. She completely bypassed the cover, flipping through pages with a hum for anything that resembled a recipe. It was weird though, it was like the book was kinda fighting her, as if the pages were trying to move on their own? Eventually, the page flipping stopped not at a recipe, but a story…
“The Diaries of D’Lish…” Pinkie spoke with a curious tone as her eyes slowly ran across the lines. According to the account, there was once a bookstore in Canterlot which housed all kinds of mysterious and interesting books that could “make all your dreams come true”. Well, at least according to them. There was quite a lot of praise for those who dared to try this store, and the books the owners treasured more than ever were the Diaries of D’Lish. Seven different recipe books which could reportedly grant the wishes of anyone who created these dishes.
However, it soon turned out that this bookstore was more than just a place of literature: It was a cult’s homebase. In it, the Cult of D’lish would meet, planning towards the summoning of their demon mistress to sow chaos in the world. They had become so close to victory when their ritual was stopped by a pair of plucky college sisters, sending the cult through the portal and leaving the store abandoned. The books were locked away in the basement, never to be heard from again…
“Oooo… That’s pretty neat!” Pinkie giggled, sitting up in excitement at the engaging story she just read only to shrink back down from another loud shush by the librarian. It was then that something caught her train of thought. “Hmmm… Abandoned… Wait, wasn’t there an abandoned bookstore in the city…? The one that no one bothers replacing! Yeah! Maybe that’s it?”
Pinkie now knew what she was going to do today. Urban exploration for some new recipes! In the mind of anyone sane, this would be a horrible idea.
“But Not my mind~” Pinkie giggled at the author with a wink.

Pinkie arrived at the rumored location, the old abandoned bookstore. It still had that fine wood look, even if the wood was mostly rotted away. Pinkie took note of the burn marks on the wood as she ventured in without a second thought, humming a cheery tune the whole way as she looked through the shelves at the many books on offer. If she could, she’d maybe find something useful for fun!
Sadly, most of the books seemed to have the structural integrity of no-ply gas station toilet paper, and the ones that didn’t simply weren’t legible.

“Well, if someone just went to bed, then I wouldn’t be needing to walk away from a potentially fun plot development!”
She retorted, not realizing that 3 in the morning was the perfect time to write even on school nights.
“Go to sleep, or I’m going to get this story banned by breaking every one of Fimfiction’s rules!”
Okay, fine. Jeez…
“Thank you!” Pinkie smiled and turned back to the door to pick at it, humming a lullaby to put the author to sleep.
By the time the author had awoken, Pinkie had already picked her way through the several locks and sidestepped any traps that they could have done, and she stood in front of the door with a face that could only be described as smug beyond measure. Indignantly, the door slowly crept open, revealing a room that was scarred by some kind of explosion. Burn marks centered around the room, shelves splintered and scattered the contents away from the blast radius, and at the far end of the room stood a large safe, the only thing standing after what was no doubt a climactic encounter.
“Welp! Let’s see these diary thingies!” Pinkie said, largely ignoring the scene and skipping straight to the safe. Despite the warning signs, she was eager to have new recipes. As she approached, she looked at the safe tumbler with a hum. Snapping her fingers, she produced a stethoscope and listened in as she very carefully turned the tumbler. Click, click, click, and the door was opened.
“Piece of cake~!” Pinkie giggled before spacing off. “Mmmm… Cake… Moist, juicy… Oh! Right, the diaries!”
Quickly, she opened up the safe, where 7 books rested, bound in string. She ever so gingerly snagged them in one quick scoop, smiling wide. “Hehehe, time to make me some tasty, spooky snacks!”

The books were quite interesting reads, actually being diaries of this D’Lish guy as he worked to make the tastiest desserts in the world. Every so often, a recipe was offered, more and more elaborate and decadent than the last. Trying to pick which one to try was becoming tougher for Pinkie, now saddled with too many fun options.
Eventually, she settled to start with one “No-Bake Red Devil’s Broodcake”, what looked like a mix of red velvet and devil’s food cake. She nodded to herself with a big smile. “Alright! Time to see how this tastes on its own first!” She declared, pumping her fists in the air.
She began gathering up as many ingredients as possible. It was all standard stuff, sugar, flour, the richest chocolate she could get her hands on, just a tiiiiny bit of goat blood. Pretty basic in her eyes. Then, it began talking about things like “A memory of sweeter times”, a “essence of a bitter rivalry”, and “proof of fiery passion”. She hummed to herself in thought, looking around for anything that could fit that description. A photo of her with her sisters, a medal she won the baking competition against Crystal Prep, one of her extensive personal profiles.
More and more it asked, and the weirdest part was how it all blended together with ease. She wondered idly what was going to come out of this, especially when there were no instructions on preheating or even bringing anything to a boil! Instead, the recipe called for Pinkie to pour the contents into a large greased cupcake container, then draw a pattern around it in bone dust. Once the candles were set up and lit, the final step that she needed to follow was a simple rhyming chant while holding out her hands. After reading it a couple times, she took a quick breath, held out her hands, and declared.
“Tasty is the batter blended,”

The moment she threw her hands to the sky, a blaze erupted from the circle, engulfing the flame and leaving Pinkie stunned. It even came with tiny horns
“Oooo!” Pinkie declared, leaning in as she gave the cupcake a poke. Sure enough, it felt like it was freshly baked and smelled absolutely delicious. Twilight took a breath and adjusted her glasses. Papers scattered the floors, barely legible formulas dotting the space, alongside patches of loose hairs and very large scratch marks. Running back to the main desk, she held up the librarian. “I’d like to check this out, please.”
