Chapter 6: The Spinning Staircase

“DUCK!” Luigi exclaimed as the ghost punched in our direction, and Luigi and I jumped out of the way.

“What the heck is that ghost?” I asked in fear.

“That must be a portrait ghost,” Luigi said while we dodged more punches the portrait ghost threw at us.

“What? A Portrait Ghost?” I asked.

“That’s a more powerful ghost than the last one we faced,” Luigi quickly answered as we continued to dodge the attacks.

“So how do we defeat it?” I asked right when something happened. Instead of throwing more punches at us, this portrait ghost tossed giant candles while Luigi and I tried our hardest to dodge them.

“We just need to strike it with our flashlights, then suck it up, just like with the last ghost” Luigi explained.

“Sounds simple enough,” I said as I noticed the ghost's eyes were wide open.

“Take this!” I exclaimed as I fired my flashlight at the ghost, only for it to block it with the candle.

“Hm, nice try, I won’t allow you to suck me up this time!” The portrait ghost exclaimed just as something unexpected happened. He slammed his body onto the ground and just like that, the floor was starting to disappear.

“Quick, onto the stairs Twilight!” Luigi said as he helped me onto the staircase just as the floor was no more.

“Better run!” The ghost said just as the staircase started to disappear as well.

“RUN!” I exclaimed as I and Luigi started to run up the staircase as fast as we could. As we were rushing up the stairwell as fast as we could, I wasn’t sure about Luigi but I could feel myself getting more tired every step.

“I…I can’t….go ... .much…farther,” Luigi said as I saw some sweat on his face as I got an idea.

“I think I know what to do,” I said when I thought of the same spell I used when the Crystal Empire returned. I was about to cast the spell just when I bumped into something. I looked up and saw the ghost as I took a few steps back.

“I was hoping you two would survive, there’s no fun defeating you two so quickly, but now, it’s time for you to go!!” The portrait ghost exclaimed while we flashed our flashlights at the ghost as he lit up.

“Now!” Luigi exclaimed as we both caught a grip on him as we started to suck him up.

“NO, NO, NO!!!” The ghost exclaimed as we made quick work of him as Luigi sucked him into his Poultergust.

“T….that was fun,” Luigi said as we both took a second to breathe.

“That was…scary,” I said just as the staircase and the room started to return to normal.

“I felt the same when I caught my first ghost,” Luigi chuckled as his Poultergust vibrated. “I think I should take this,” Luigi said as he held the Virtual Boo in his hand. “Hello? We’ll be there soon,” Luigi said as he hung up.

“I’m assuming Egad wants us back at the lab?” I asked.

“It seems so, better brace yourself,” Luigi said as he pulled out the TV, it grew in size as we both stepped through.

“Welcome back you two!” Egad excitedly said as we exited the TV.

“I’m never going to get used to that,” I said, holding my head.

“I assume you heard the news?” Luigi asked.

“I saw that the spike disappeared,” Egad said.

“That’s because we took care of that ghost!” I said excitedly.

“Congratulations to you two!” Egad said happily.

“I see why those ghosts have a separate name now,” I said.

“Speaking of, I have something new to show you,” Egad said as he pushed a button on his desk and this tube-like box appeared. “Could you both place the tubes of your Poultergusts into the slot?” Egad asked. It was a little difficult to position correctly but we both managed to do so.

"What is that for?” I asked.

“Glad you asked Twilight. That’s my new, slightly damaged containment chamber, a device that contains the ghosts you and Luigi have managed to capture so far,” Egad explained.

“That sounds useful,” I said.

“Didn’t that one break out King Boo and Hellen Gravley, hence the reason were here?” Luigi asked.

“Don’t worry, I worked out the kicks, that shouldn’t happen again,” Egad said.

“It better not,” Luigi said.

“Speaking of, I believe you two have another area to explore, I’m detecting energy readings from the second floor of that palace, you two better go check it out,” Egad said.

“I suppose we should be heading back anyway,” I said.

“Good luck out there, I have a feeling these ghosts will be much more difficult to defeat,” Egad said.

“We’ll be ready for them,” Luigi said as we stepped through the TV, preparing for what was yet to come.

. . .

“ARE. YOU. KIDDING. ME??” King Boo shouted in anger.

“How? I thought that the butler would be able to take care of them!” Hellen shouted in rage.

“You’re failing me, AGAIN,” King Boo said with disappointment in his voice.

“What? You agreed with my plan of sending the butler to attack them, this is your fault as well! Not to mention Luigi's far more powerful with that pony helping out!” Hellen exclaimed.

"You're right, who is that pony? Find out who she is and where she's from! She's just as a threat to us as Luigi is!" King Boo exclaimed.

"Yes King Boo, I'll keep an eye on her, we can't let them stand in our way for much longer," Hellen said.

"Good, maybe unlike last time, you could be useful for once," King Boo said.

"Are you forgetting that it was MY plan to bring Luigi and his friends to MY hotel?" Hellen exclaimed with rage.

"And it crumpled to the ground, not to mention you send the butler to attack them," King Boo said.

"You agreed!" Hellen exclaimed.

“Ugh, well, he was a weak ghost anyway, what we need to send a ghost that I know they won’t be able to defeat!” King Boo said.

“And what ghost would that be, my love?” Hellen asked.

“First off, we’re not dating and we will never date, so stop calling me, 'my love', secondly, I’m thinking that if we want to stop those two, we need to send…those sisters to bring their final curtain call,” King Boo said.

“I couldn’t think of anyone better, let's do it!” Hellen exclaimed as the two roared with laughter…for Luigi and Twilight’s final curtain call.
