The Displaced Tournament: Future's Darkness.
Into the Unknown: Johnny.
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThings were looking good for Johnny today as he made his way through the market. He was on the hunt for a special treat for his wife and wouldn't return empty handed. Looking from shop to shop he didn't really see much that fit her style and he decided to just order a custom piece from a local jeweler. Paying the kind mare nearly sixty five bits, he was told to come back later to pick up the order. Walking back outside he took a breath.
“Nearly a year now…” He smiled to himself as he looked at the ring on his finger. “Hope she likes it. It'll cost me half a week's wage, but it's worth it.” He chuckled as he began to walk down the street back towards the Base. Dark thoughts had been troubling him for weeks now as his wife was nearly going to give birth to their first child. He was still deep in thought as he walked up to the gate and his troops snapped to attention.
“Sir, welcome back! I pray your jaunt was successful!” One soldier called out as I waived deftly towards him. The trooper looked at his duty partner and raised an eyebrow. “What's with him?” They asked, to which his partner shrugged.
Johnny wandered through the base to his office, closing the door and sitting down behind his desk.
“Man.. this kid's gonna put me in an early grave.” He chuckled as he leaned back and tried to relax. But his relaxation would be interrupted by a blue circular portal swirling into existence, appearing directly in front of him. The circular portal made a humming sound and almost pulsated before a purple blur shot from the portal and landed on the wall behind Johnny. Only to then flip and land with a bow.
The purple blur got up from their bow and revealed themselves to be a five-foot-seven girl with tanned peach colored skin. Their hair is a dark brown, they had hazel eyes, and wore an outfit that’s entirely purple. A patchy potato sack that acted as her hat, a vest, baggy pants, all purple except her shoes which were white. “Hello, Johnny, Hero of Equestria, Husband and soon-to-be-father.” The girl offered a smile, “My name is Diane, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”
He just blinked for a moment before shaking his head. “Well this is an unexpected entrance… May I ask you what the nature of your visit means?” He asked the newcomer as he narrowed his eyes slightly.
“Ah, straight into business, are we? Good!” Diane clapped her hands, “That means we can do this quickly. Alright, so, I have been sent here from my King. I am a representative of the United Equestrian-Eliatropian Kingdom. I come from a world across the Void and I am here but for one reason. To recruit you.”
“Recruit me?” He mused as he scratched his chin. “Recruit me for what exactly? I already have a job, and a quest.”
“I am recruiting you for an event of all events. A competition where eight Displaced will be gathered in one arena for the sole purpose of combat,” She held up her right fist and clenched it dramatically, “I'm talking about the Displaced Tournament!” Diane raised a fist to the ceiling, her voice taking a different tone; vigor, it was.
“A tournament eh..?” He smirked and stood up. “Listen… Diane was it? I don't know if I can. Will I be gone for a long time? I know time works differently between worlds, and I don't want to miss my child's birth.” He said with a stern face.
Diane tried to run a hand through her hair but noticed she had her hat on, she pursed her lips at that. “Well, the answer is simple. Every hour in my world is one minute here. So, at most you’ll be gone for ten hours, capiche?”
“Is that all?” He laughed. “The way you made it sound, made it seem like I'd be gone for days!”
“Days in our world, a few hours here. Also, you get a wish from the Dragon Balls if you win the Tournament.” Diane pointed out with a finger raised.
“The Dragon Balls… I'd almost forgotten about that Series…” He sighed before giving her a smirk. “Alright. I accept.”
“Now,” The Eliatrope clapped her hands together, “You can bring up to however many people you want to come. Everything will be covered, your food, where you sleep, everything.”
He nodded, looking out the window as he thought. He couldn't bring his wife, she was in too delicate a condition to travel. Who would he take with him…
“Aha. I know who I'll bring.” He smiled, turning to Diane. “I will bring the Lunar Regent, Luna!”
She paused for a moment, “...Is that all?” Eliatrope raised a brow, “Just her? I just want to confirm.”
“Eheheh… Well, I would take my wife, but she can't really travel right now, and the rest of my friends are either busy with reconstruction or are still… trapped…” He frowned sadly.
“Oh…” Diane paused for a moment, “Welp, let’s get Luna then.” She opened a portal behind Johnny and ran over and jumped over his desk to dropkick him through the portal. Following swiftly behind.
Sitting in her study, going over the day's reports, Luna sighed as she looked over the paper before her. She had been pulling double duty raising both the sun and moon since her sister had been taken away, and it was starting to show just how much it was taxing her magic. She looked almost like she would fall over if she tried to walk, but somehow managed.
“I don't know how you managed to deal with it Tia…” She sighed to herself as she signed the paper, setting it to the side and picking up the next. A portal opened up in front of her and Johnny was launched out of it and landed on his back.
“Ow… why did she have to kick me…” He groaned as he sat up. Looking around he spotted Luna and smiled weakly.
“Well now, this is new. Have you found some new magic?” She asked as she got up and walked over to him. He stood and dusted himself off before shaking his head.
“No, some kid dropkicked me through that portal from my office.” He sighed.
“WHO ARE YOU CALLING KID?!” From the portal, Diane walked out, “I am over a thousand years old. I could speak to your many greats-grandpa!” She put both her hands on her hips.
“But you look like a kid. Sorry, but I call it how I see it.” He chuckled a bit as Luna looked the girl over.
“Very interesting… she is an old being, but still a child to me.” Luna smiled at Diane.
“Ah, screw you Alicorns, we Eliatropes outlive you guys anyways,” The Eliatrope waved her hand.
“Now now, no need to be hostile. I was merely attempting to be humorous.” Luna giggled softly. “It is not every day one meets another near immortal being after all.”
Johnny just sighed, glad they weren't going to fight each other.
“Lulu, we're here because I've been recruited to a Tournament. And I've chosen you as my guest.” He said as he gave Luna a serious look. She looked back and nodded before turning to Diane.
“Very well. If Johnny trusts your intentions, then so do I.” She said with a slight bow.
“Alright, hurry, hurry, hurry! I wanna be first!” Diane conjured a portal behind her and stepped out of the way, “Go, go, go! Hustle up!” She motioned them to the portal.
“Oh, it's on like Donkey Kong!” He chuckled as he took Luna's hand and they walked through the portal together.
Diane watched them leave and looked back at Luna’s study before shrugging, “Fuck it, backflip!” She performed a backflip into the portal, giggling as she did so.
