We Used To Be Adored..
It was just a few weeks after the Battle of the Bands and the girls were still sulking over The Rainbooms defeating them. All they did was just mope around, not one of them getting a job or doing anything else in life, which they thought was already over. It was then that they realised that they can’t live off negative energy anymore and had to rely on human food.
When I said they were still pretty miffed about what happened, it wasn’t the whole truth. To be frank, it was mostly Aria and Adagio. Sonata was still slightly her bubbly self and decided to cherish what was left of her days since they weren’t immortal anymore.
The pair thought she was crazy, I mean, they were living in a women's homeless shelter and had to eat disgusting food just to survive. How could someone be so positive living in these conditions? It was the stupidest thing ever.
They unfortunately always had to shift from shelter to shelter as Aria kept picking fights with the junkies and then getting tossed out along with the other two.
Adagio had thought about kicking her out of the trio since she was practically ruining their chances of surviving in these harsh, winter conditions, but she knew two minds were better than one (only two minds because Adagio thinks Sonata was a dummy dumdum.)
This made it the fourth homeless shelter they’d been to and Adagio started keeping a close eye on Aria to make sure she stayed out of trouble. Of course Aria didn’t like this but she knew it was for her own good since they didn’t want to risk getting kicked out of the only other homeless shelter in the area.
It was late at night and Adagio was scrolling through her phone on MyStable and she suddenly came across something. She groaned as she saw a post by Pinkie Pie with The Rainbooms in front of the school each posing a pose that fits their character, with the caption being:
“OMG!!! I love my friends!”
She looked in disgust at her phone for about two minutes before shutting it down and putting it under her pillow and going to sleep. Before she was about to tuck herself in she took a quick glance at Sonata who was sleeping soundly and just sighed.
Sonata was always so filled with light. As much as Adagio disliked her, she couldn't just leave her as it would be cruel. Sonata always knew how to turn a dark moment into something bright which was kind of a reassurance to the other two girls. Sonata would barely make it out alive if she were to be abandoned.Just looking at her left Adagio feeling slight pity.
The girls had nothing but contempt for each other (except maybe Sonata). Not one of the girls ever showed concern for their feelings, but they still wouldn’t separate as it would be a poor decision, they needed each other to survive, that's all it was to them.
Former siren sisters, that was all it was.
Adagio got settled on her bed and pulled the covers up to protect her face from whatever dangers lay ahead since she was sleeping near to lots of strangers and she didn’t know what they were capable of.
She knew that they stood out from the rest of the women at the shelter since they were not ex-convicts, druggies or smokers. They heard of the bad stuff that the people did here, but none of them could compare to how evil they were.
The girls had come to terms with the fact that what they did was pretty wrong, still, they were too stubborn to admit it out loud.
Adagio drifted off to sleep and was soon awakened in the middle of the night. One of the supposed junkies had gotten into a fight with somebody. Adagio, praying it wasn’t Aria, quickly pulled the covers off of herself then shot up.
A junkie had apparently, from what Adagio was told, strangled someone in their sleep for whatever reason. Her ears soon adjusted properly and she realised she was also hearing police and ambulance sirens.
She looked around and everyone was pretty much awake and confused due to the commotion.
This wasn’t a surprise to the girls, things like this were pretty common. Every shelter they lived in had lots of fights, but none of them had ended this horribly.
The paramedics took the deceased person away in the ambulance with the sirens off. Adagio and the girls (who quickly grabbed their phones just in case someone planned on stealing them) obviously wanted to take a closer look but the police just ushered everyone out and started putting up police tape around the premises.
If it wasn’t for the street lights and flashing red and blue police lights, it would’ve been pitch black as it was the middle of the night. The wind was blowing like a madman and the girls immediately started to shiver and wrap their arms around them as they were only wearing t-shirts and sweatpants.
Everyone was mortified, where were the people gonna sleep now? Adagio and Aria being more agitated and annoyed than scared. Sonata, now barely holding in her tears as she was sensitive to the topic of death, walked over and asked one of the cops,
“Uhm.. Cop, sir, can me and my friends go in and get our stuff back?”
Sonata used the word ‘friends’ putting into consideration the other two didn’t think of each other as friends. She turned around hoping they didn’t hear her use the ‘F’ word and luckily for her, they were distracted with something else.
“Sorry ma’am, this place is closed until further notice, maybe for about two days, you should probably transfer to a different shelter for the time being.” The cop replied.
“Sergeant Shining Armor, should we request more backup? There’s another fight breaking out and it’s getting out of control.” Another female officer reported as she rushed over.
“Permission granted.” Sergeant Shining Armor responded, now turning towards Sonata. “Now ma’am, we have lots of angry citizens bugging us, if you would please cooperate it’ll make our job easier.”
“Oh.. Ok.” Sonata replied meekly as she walked back to the girls.
“So, what did he say?” Aria demanded, arms crossed. Adagio also came over and stood beside Aria and put her hands on her hips.
Sonata sighed, “They said we won't be able to enter for about two days and we can’t get our stuff as well!” The blue haired girl whined, pouting while crossing her arms.
“What!” Adagio roared, loud enough to catch the attention of the nearby cops.
Both Aria and Sonata flinched and pretty much soon after two cops walked over. Now would be an extremely great time for them to use their Equestrian magic, no thanks to The Rainbooms.
They didn’t really need their stuff, especially since they barely had anything. But Adagio was still pretty cross about not getting her proper rest so basically, her stuff not being returned to her was really the last straw.
She clenched her fists as two cops who heard all the commotion walked over to help sooth Adagio.
“Ma’am could you please cooperate? We really are trying our best here.” An officer noted in a soft yet commanding tone.
“Well clearly, your best is not good enough.” She growled, pointing a finger at the officers with her other hand on her hip.
Noticing that Adagio was about to pounce on one of the cops, Aria and Sonata reacted quickly and grabbed both of her arms just as she was about to attack.
“H-Hey!” She yelped as she was brought back, aggressively pulling her arms away from the two girls.
“Thank you so much girls for being able to stop me before jumping two police officers and going to prison for aggravated assault! I really appreciate it.” Aria yelled in sarcasm. “You could’ve literally gone to jail if we hadn’t stopped you.” She also added in a more stern voice.
“Oh, so now you’re talking?” Adagio snapped back. “You can’t even control your anger, we wouldn’t have even been in this mess if it wasn’t for you! You’ve got us into this shit.”
“Woah, woah ladies, you need to calm down.” A female cop hollered, now standing in between the two girls with both of her arms raised up in a ‘T’ shape.
Sonata just watched in perplexity as the two stopped their screaming match, she turned around to see that there was an audience too.
A few different cops came and tried to diffuse the situation by breaking up the audience. The cop in between Aria and Adagio had left, issuing a warning to Adagio, along with the other cop.
“I think it’s best if we split up.” Adagio said while turning her back. “You and Sonata can go elsewhere, I’m better off without you guys.” She didn’t mean it, the words just slipped out of her mouth like word vomit.
The pair of girls looked at Adagio in surprise, they’d always been together, for centuries even. This was the first time this topic had ever come up.
“You guys have only been slowing me down, I’m only after success and you guys can’t even get ahead on your own without me giving you orders! Y'all have just been a herd of sheep to me. I pity you.” Adagio stated, turning her head back around slightly to face the pair.
“So that's what we were to you? A bunch of dumdum heads who can't do stuff on their own?” Sonata choked out, stepping forward. “You know, if it wasn’t for us, you wouldn’t have even made it to where we were.”
“Sonata’s right. We always did everything for you.. you barely lifted a finger.” Aria remarked now standing beside Sonata. “Even after everything, you always still bossed us around and were always so ungrateful. You never acknowledged us as equal.”
Adagio was visibly taken aback by such a preposterous claim, though, deep down inside she knew it was right.
She always yelled and snapped insults at the two. Whenever Aria and Sonata got into physical fights, she’d always just brush it off, but the second she got pulled into them, she would yell at them both. Sonata would be upset while Aria would just be pissed.
But of course, Adagio being the stubborn person she was, decided to not admit her wrongs.
So her stubbornness got the best of her.
“Well, I’ll be leaving now.” Adagio declared as she began to walk off.
“Fine, be that way.” Aria replied bluntly. “Hmph! Come on Sonata, pretty sure she couldn’t last a whole day without us.”
