A New Start For The Two

Author's Note

My second chapterrr, I don't know much about American high schools since I go to an Australian one. This took me a long time to write since I have to prep for exams but I'll still have time to update this and add more chapters!!:derpytongue2:

A New Start For The Two

And with that ending statement, the trio split up and walked their separate ways.

Aria and Sonata had set off, completely having no idea where they were going, but they sure as hay weren’t gonna give up now.

Aria couldn’t believe Adagio’s selfish actions and thoughts were now racing through her head, the dominating one being:

Just wait, Adagio would come back begging to join us again.

The sun was going up as it was becoming morning again, Aria groaned while Sonata looked at where the sun was rising and was mesmerized by the scenery.

Aria couldn’t understand why Sonata was so positive about everything, it was just a sunrise, she scoffed.

Their legs were starting to get tired but they couldn’t find any nearby benches to rest on which was putting Aria in a more grumpy mood.

“Do we even know where we’re going?’ Sonata bugged tapping Aria’s shoulder.

“Uh, no.” Aria replied, slightly annoyed and moved slightly away because of Sonata's badgering. “It’s not like your dumbass could come up with any suggestions.”

Sonata was hurt by that reply but she didn’t want anything else to make this day worse than it already was. She’s always been called continuous insults by both of her friends (mostly Aria), they mostly think that she wouldn’t take to heart since they thought she’s always bimbotic, but they still hurt her deep down inside.

Suddenly, an idea popped into her head.

“Actually, I do have a suggestion!” Sonata exclaimed.

Aria stopped walking and just stared blankly at Sonata. “Okay then, what’s your idea?”

“Weeeeelll, I reckon we could go back to school?”

Aria was now seething.

“Is this your idea of a joke?” She scolded. “Do you even remember what happened last time, or is your little brain too small to comprehend?”

“No, I’m not joking.” Sonata replied.

“Plus, even if we did go to school, where would we sleep anyway?” Aria questioned.

“Well, didn’t that pony Twilight sleep in the library? Like in the side where nobody goes?” Sonata asked. “Maybe we could sleep there instead?”

Aria was stunned, she never thought someone as dim-witted as Sonata could suggest such a brilliant idea. She kept her cool and replied nonchalantly.

“How do you even know that?”

“Just a hunch!” Sonata responded joyfully.

They continued to walk down the path in silence, well Aria was, Sonata was skipping while humming.

“Wait, how would we even get in the school, doesn’t everybody there hate us?” Aria added turning to Sonata who ceased her humming and started walking alongside Aria.

The girls were never faced with this situation, everyone has always adored them and they never had anyone get mad at them, up until The Rainbooms publicly humiliated them.

The next few minutes were an awful lot silent as the two found themselves a bench they could rest on.

“Okayy, soooooo…” Sonata said, shattering the silence.

“So what?” Aria replied. “Make it snappy. I'm literally losing it right now.”

“I know we never really do this, buuuuuut… We could apologise?” Sonata mumbled but it was audible enough for Aria to listen.

“You’re joking?” Aria baffled. “Imagine Adagio was here, she’d literally start yelling at you if she heard that.”

“But she’s not here, we can do whatever we want now!” Sonata pleaded. “Plus, it’ll benefit us both, we won’t be too verbally harassed as much as we were when we got exposed.”

They had been together for a long time, she knew Sonata would never make a decision that could subject them to something bad. So, Aria decided to go along with Sonata's plan.

“Alright.. We can head to the school later once everyone is in class so that they won’t see us enter.” Aria noted. “There’s only so much ridicule one can handle.”

And with that, Aria checked her phone and saw it was 5:45. They had more time for rest than they thought.

Aria had been playing video games on her phone while Sonata slowly dozed off to sleep. She couldn’t blame her, so much had happened last night.

It had been about two hours in (7:45) and Aria got up to stretch for a while before heading back on the bench and sitting back down. She wondered how Sonata was sleeping in such an uncomfortable position.

Aria tried many attempts to sleep but after a sixth try she finally dozed off before setting up an alarm for 9:45.

Again, two more hours had passed and it was now time. Aria harshly (not too harsh) nudged Sonata awake.

She yawned and Aria pointed to the time on her phone which made Sonata jump up from the bench.

Yawn Let's go, the students are probably in class now.” She gently got Aria’s hands to help her up but Aria just swatted it away.

She got up on her own and started walking ahead, noticing Sonata was still behind, she motioned her to pick up the pace.

It wasn’t a long way to CHS but the girls still had to be kind of stealth-like, what if someone arrived at school late and saw them walking about.

At last they arrived at the gates and slowly opened the entrance door. They remembered where Principal Celestia's office was from the last time they were here, and so they walked over to the office.

They just stood by the door nervously kind of, at least Sonata was. But hey, if they forgave Sunset Shimmer, maybe she could forgive them.

And with a deep breath, Aria knocked on the door.

“Come in.” A gentle but commanding response was heard loud and clear. They jumped slightly.

The two gulped, Sonata grabbing on to Aria for protection but she just moved her away, annoyed. Aria opened the door and the principal had her eyes on her desk on some documents.

She looked up and couldn’t believe what she saw. There in front of her were two of The Dazzlings, Aria and Sonata.

“Oh.” She said, astonished yet disappointed. “Take a seat ladies and tell me what brings you here again.”

The two followed the principal’s orders and sat down on the two seats in front of her desk. Aria just slumped on while Sonata had perfect posture.

“So..?” She made a face that basically read “I have better things to do.” Aria soon spoke up.

“So, me and Sonata were wondering if we could enrol back?”

Celestia’s face was a look of disapproval and disappointment. She slowly nodded her head looking down kind of, swallowing a chuckle while tsking.

“So you can try to hypnotise us again? I don’t think so.” Celestia snapped back, but in a more polite sort of way looking back down at the files in front of her, shifting the papers. “Plus, what's the magic word?” She added while writing something down on one of the files.

“Look, we come reformed.” Sonata added. “Please, if you could just give us a second chance like what you’ve done with Sunset.” She pleaded, clasping her hands together like she was praying.

“Like Sunset, huh..” The principal mumbled audibly as she put her pen down, looked up and then put her fingers laced together with the index fingers pointing up, lightly tapping.

Celestia had given Sunset a second chance, what she did was kinda worse than what The Dazzlings did. It would be really unfair to not give them a chance.

She analysed them once more and noticed there was a member missing from the group.

“Where’s the other one, Adagio Dazzle?” She questioned.

“We parted ways, she thought she was too good for us and went off on her own.” Aria answered, in a seething but controlled manner.
“Mhm..” The principal replied. “Well, we could get you enrolled back, but one more slip up and I’m throwing you out” She mentioned firmly as she flipped through some papers and handed the pair an enrolment sheet. This response lightened up the pair's faces (Aria, only slightly).

The two signed the sheet, leaving the home address and parents contact information unfilled, Celestia didn’t mention anything about it as she knew their current situation (not the homeless part though).

“Welcome to Canterlot High, again.” She nonchalantly exclaimed. Sonata giggled and lifted her arms in the air but then Celestia just shot a look at her, implying that she should not be proud as they were there on probation, Sonata soon calmly collected herself.

“Miss. Inkwell?” The principal called out to the passer by the door which was behind the girls. A lady in office attire and large spectacles that covered some of her features walked up to the door. She held a clipboard to her waist. Sonata and Aria curiously turned their heads to see who it was. “Could you get these ladies their locker arrangements?” Celestia calmly ordered.

The lady, by the name of ‘Miss. Inkwell’, from what the girls have heard, nodded, pushed her glasses up to her face and walked off quickly towards somewhere, perhaps her office. The girls couldn’t see much since they were facing the other side.

She returned in such a jiffy that Aria thought, ‘She must get paid a lot if she runs around taking orders from the staff.’ She handed two sheets to the girls with a face so sour that it could curdle milk, and as soon as they grabbed them, she wiped her hands on her shirt as if the two had a disease and quickly rushed off somewhere else.

As the two stood up from their seats and were about to exit through the door, Celestia quickly got up and handed them their school schedule.

“Remember girls, one major goof up and it’s time for you to search for a different school.” She noted strictly and with that she slammed the door behind them. The girls flinched slightly before scurrying off somewhere where the principal wasn’t in earshot.

They found themselves in the locker area with the door to the gym being adjacent to them.

“What's up their asses?” Aria mentioned with a slight chuckle turning to face Sonata, awaiting a response, she did get one, but it wasn’t one she was expecting.

“Aria!” Sonata nudged Arias' shoulder with her elbow. “Be grateful, she literally gave us a second chance.” Aria also nudged Sonata's arm harder, leaving Sonata rubbing it with her other hand.

“Whatever.” She replied carelessly.

“Oh wait! Let’s see if we have any classes together!” Sonata replied excitedly. The two held up their schedules side to side and compared which classes they had. Unfortunately, they only had like no classes together.

They both thought that Principal Celestia had something to do with it and she was trying to get under the girls’ skin, maybe as payback for what they did.

“Bummer!” Sonata exclaimed as she turned to see Aria was to some degree not bothered by it at all.

“Welp, I guess I should be heading over to algebra.” Aria added as she began to walk off to where her class was supposed to be.

Sonata waved over goodbye but only received only small acknowledgement.

Aria’s side:

Aria walked over to where her supposed class was. It didn’t show on her face, but she was scared shitless. She opened the door and everyone turned their heads to see who was interrupting their lesson and when they did, they were shocked. The teacher, Miss. Harshwinney was also stunned but then told the class to calm down.

“Apparently I have algebra.” She mentioned as she looked around for a seat. There was an empty seat at the back so she went ahead and took it. The students sitting near that desk immediately went and scootched away from it.

Aria was annoyed by this and just shot the students (who were still staring and whispering about her) death stares.

She put her head down but could still feel the glares facing her. Miss. Harshwinney continued with the lesson and that's when Aria realised how tough getting through this day is going to be.

Sonata’s side:

Unlike Aria, Sonata was slightly optimistic about meeting her old classmates again, the only thing that was keeping her from being fully confident was what they were going to think of meeting her.

As she walked over, she noticed Rarity grabbing something from her locker. Sonata quickly found a hiding spot. Rarity looked over her shoulder, she sensed someone was looking at her but she just brushed it off and headed towards her respective class.

When Sonata found that the coast was clear she made a run for it. She had chemistry and walked towards where the chemistry room is located. She took a deep breath and pulled the door open. All the students were wearing lab coats and safety goggles, and the teacher, Miss. Cheerilee was grading test papers on her desk.

The teacher looked up and let out a small gasp. “Oh! Class we have a new student… I suppose.” She stood up towards Sonata. There was a itty bitty hint of disgust in her face and Sonata could tell. The entire class was now staring in disbelief at Sonata, she could make out a few girls, Fluttershy and… Twilight Sparkle?

“Please take a seat over here, class will be over soon.” Miss. Cheerilee pointed to a seat beside her desk. Sonata awkwardly sat herself down and she heard everyone still gossiping about her and shooting daggers, all but Fluttershy and Twilight.

After class:

The whole day was filled with bullying and teasing by partially the whole student body, all but The Rainbooms. In fact, it was them who told the others to stop making fun of the girls, some actually stopped but some on the other hand wouldn’t stop.

It was lunch and the two were at the cafeteria, they sat on a table on the far end and literally devoured and inhaled their food (they hadn’t had a proper meal for a while).

“Woah, you sure can reaaally put it away!” Pinkie exclaimed walking over to the two, along with The Rainbooms.

“Leave us alone Rainf*gs.” Aria yelled, not too loud to catch the attention of the nearby people.

“Hey, don’t call us that,” Rainbow Dash announced. “Besides, what’s wrong with being gay?”

“Yeah.. Are you homophobic Aria…?” Fluttershy added. Aria didn’t respond and just tried to block out their annoying claims by digging her face into her arms. Sonata soon spoke up on behalf of her ‘friend’.

“She’s not homophobic guys’, she loves the LGBTQIA+, don’t you Aria? wink wink

Aria just groaned, annoyed. The girls didn’t have any feelings about the LGBTQIA+, they didn’t even care about them (except maybe Sonata). But they definitely weren’t homophobic.

“Ok enough with this gay stuff, and, can you guys also stop with the whole angel act as well?” Aria snapped, pulling her head back up. “You’re just doing this to make you guys feel good about yourselves.”

“Listen sugarcube,” Applejack added. “We were there when it happened to Sunset, we don’t want it happening to you as well.” She said, probably talking about the aftermath of the Fall Formal, though the pair weren’t there to see it all unfold. Sunset soon came forward.

“Take it from me, these six girls helped me find a better way, these girls are your friends.” She noted.

“Yeah, even after the Friendship Games when I turned into a raging she-demon, they still forgave me.” Twilight also added.

Aria just cringed, then she wondered about Twilight.

“Wait, what are you talking about?” Aria questioned. “Since when did Twilight get into such trouble, isn’t she the one who brought you guys together with the whole ‘friendship is magic’ thing?”

The six girls looked at each other in confusion then realised what Aria meant. The Dazzlings weren’t there when the Friendship Games happened so they probably haven’t met ‘human world’ Twilight.

After explaining, it soon began to become clearer for the two.

“So that’s what happened!” Twilight then added at the end of her explanation, turning beet red slightly and looking down in embarrassment and shame before Sunset put her hand on her shoulder. She regained her composure with the comfort of her friend.

“Ohh! That makes much more sense.” Sonata remarked while clapping her hands. Aria still had a plain expression on her face (her eyebrows still furrowed kinda like it always is).

The two girls let their guards down (mostly Aria since Sonata basically trusts everyone she meets) and let the Rainbooms sit on their table. Sonata was a social butterfly so she started a conversation with the girls while Aria faced the other side with her face resting on her hand.

She zoned out and her ears were naturally blocking out the sounds of laughter and conversation until she heard her name being called out.

“Ariaaaa!?” Pinkie queried while waving a face around Aria. “Earth to Ariaaa!”

Aria moved her hand in a way to tell Pinkie that she was mentally here. “What?” She turned around facing the girls.

“Well, Sonata told us about what happened,” Sunset replied, concerned. “About you guys' situation, and what happened with Adagio.”

“So she did…” Aria quickly shot daggers at Sonata but she just shrugged her shoulders, completely oblivious to what she’s done.

“Whaaat?” She asked. Aria just groaned and facepalmed once more.

The rest of the day was a blur for the two girls. They were obviously made fun of a lot, but they also gained a strong ally and they really felt reassured.

Aria met Sonata at the forsaken side of the library. There was a pile of books stacked up to make a bed, big enough for the two of them and there was a cover that was used as a blanket. Sonata was looking through some of the books which Aria thought was weird, then she remembered. It slipped her mind that they didn’t have their phone chargers and that Sonata’s phone must have died and that's why she was reading.

They had made sure nobody had seen them walking into the library since this was the only place they thought they could sleep in. They girls lied down and stared up into the skylight, at least Sonata was, Aria just turned around and started hogging all the blanket. Sonata didn’t want to start complaining so she just let it be (after pulling the blanket a little closer to herself) after what happened this whole day.

They couldn’t rest properly as thoughts were now running in their heads like toy trains, all they could think about was:

I wonder what Adagio is up to right now?
