Chapter 3: New Day, New Danger

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

The next morning, the sun is rising and shines its rays of bright binary code onto the motherboard ground. That means it’s a new day for the Button Mash and the tweens! A network of luminescent circuits stretched infinitely, humming with energy as the alarm clocks have the group stirred awake.

“Rise and shine, cybernauts!” Sweetie Belle declared cheerfully, stretching her arms as her cybersuit rippled with a cascade of magenta. “A new cybernetic day awaits!”

The Cutie Mark Crusaders—Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo—felt rejuvenated while Snips, Snails and Button Mash were equally refreshed.

Diamond Tiara groaned as she sat up, her shimmering pink cybersuit conforming awkwardly to her frame of course. “Ugh, I barely slept. This stupid suit feels like it’s suffocating me! It’s like this suit has no zipper.”

“Same,” Silver Spoon muttered, fidgeting with the glowing black bands spiraling around her white limbs. “I couldn’t get comfortable at all. Why does it have to be so tight without a zipper? I feel like I’ve been covered in a body paint-like suit.”

Button Mash glanced over, puzzled. “What’s the big deal? The suits are awesome! They’re like second skin, but better. It’s like we’re half human, half computer programs.” He swiped his hand down his chest, the glowing light-green bands of his suit rippling at his touch, then did a muscle flex and did some bodybuilding poses. “I don’t even notice it anymore.”

“Well, good for you,” Diamond shot back, rolling her eyes. She stood up, brushing imaginary dust off her thighs. “But I still hate how this thing shows off... everything in my whole body and every part.” She gestured dramatically at herself, the contours of her cybersuit emphasizing every curve of her form. “It’s embarrassing! Don’t even get me started on how itchy it makes my butt look! Thanks to some cyber body paint-like suit!” She turned around, awkwardly tugging at the material on her behind as though to make her point, trying to take it off to no avail. That made Diamond look very embarrassed at herself.

Silver Spoon chimed in, adjusting her glasses while fiddling with the glowing bands on her arms. “She’s right. I feel we need to get out of here soon.” She frowned as she tugged at her own suit with her discomfort written all over her face. “These body curves on this outfit is making me so embarrassed, it feels like I’ve become a clothless cyber person wearing body paint.

“Look! Our towel doesn’t cover us up!” Diamond complained as she and Silver took their towels they bought from the mall to cover themselves, only for the towels to turn invisible. Once they removed their towels, they just turned into normal material again.

Before anyone could respond, the circular rings embedded in Diamond and Silver’s limbs suddenly began to glow orange. The rings spun rapidly and projected their light outward as faint, rhythmic whump-whump sounds filled the air. Pixelated hearts flickered into existence on their chests, beating in time with the noise.

“What the—?!” Diamond cried, staring down at the glowing projection. Her face flushed as she started to sweat, her discomfort amplifying with every passing second. “What’s happening?!”

Silver’s hands flew to her chest, where her own heart-shaped projection pulsed in a garish shade of pink. “Oh, gross! What is this?! Is this a glitch?!” she panicked, her voice rising an octave.

“Calm down!” Sweetie Belle intervened, stepping forward with her hands raised in a soothing gesture. “It’s just your anxiety sensors reacting. You’re overloading ourselves!”

Diamond and Silver both froze, their glowing hearts flickering as they tried to regulate their breathing. After a few seconds of stillness, the rings stopped spinning and the hearts fizzled out of sight.

“Phew...” Diamond muttered, wiping her brow. “That was... disgusting. Do not let that happen again.”

“Yeah, no kidding,” Silver agreed, shaking her head. “But at least I feel better now. Weirdly... lighter?”

Apple Bloom smirked, crossing her arms. “Told y’all you’d get used to it. Cyberspace works in mysterious ways.”

“Now can we move on?” Scootaloo asked impatiently, tapping her foot against the digital ground. “We’ve got a whole cyber-day ahead and I, for one, am ready to explore!”

Diamond adjusted her posture, straightening her shoulders. “Fine. Let’s just get this over with.”

Silver gave a small nod, her discomfort now replaced by a tentative sense of resolve. “I guess... I am feeling more ready now.”

The group reassembled, their glowing suits pulsing in unison as they marched to their tubes that took them back to CyberCity.

Underground, the Daybreaker and Nightmare Moon viruses got their invention ready. It’s a gigantic laser cannon that is loaded with solar energy.

“It’s complete, my empress.” Nightmare Moon said as Daybreaker grinned.

“Excellent! We shall begin phase 2 of our plan: fire the lasers at the Sun! It will fry the electronic grid forever!” Daybreaker laughed maniacally. “Send it up.”

“Yes, ma’am!” Nightmare Moon replied as she stepped on the platform with the cannon and had it rise up with her.

Once above ground, she knows what to do: enter the pin (38961), press the button and it will fire away. She did just that just in time for the cannon to hum with power. A minute later, the beam of solar energy fired out and hit the sun!

“Ha! It works! We shall wait for the right time for those so-called Rainbooms, Shadowbolts and their friends to stop us. They will be vulnerable!” Daybreaker laughed.

Down in CyberCity, the tweens were spending a day at the mall together when suddenly, everything became hot.

“Whoa! I don’t know about you guys, but it’s getting hot here.” Scootaloo said, wiping her forehead.

“Yeah, you’re telling us!” Snips and Snails replied in unison.

“No! Not my hair!” Sweetie complained.

“I can’t believe I’m sweating again!” Diamond screamed, beginning to feel miserable.

“Yeah, you’re not alone!” Silver replied as she felt miserable as well.

With that, Diamond and Silver are already getting the effects of their sadness sensors. Their eyes became as wide as puppy dogs and they pout!

“Don’t worry, we’ll figure out what’s causing this. Until then, we better get back to our hideout.” Button instructed as everyone nodded in agreement. Diamond and Silver’s sensors become stable and their faces return to normal.

They all headed to their tubes and set their destination to “The Hideout”. Unfortunately, once they swiped their cards, nothing happened!

“What’s going on?! Why isn’t this working?!” Diamond screamed as she kept swiping her card repeatedly.

“I’m sorry to say this, but this heat seems to be overriding the transport system!” Apple Bloom explained.

“Well, it looks like we have to walk back to the Hideout.” Scootaloo said as the group all walked back to their cyber home. Luckily, the Hideout isn’t over a mile away. They were already practically there after a few minutes of walking.

Meanwhile, the people of CyberLab Industries were surprised that they got more visitors and they realized that the tweens and Button needed help.

“Sir… We’re picking up new visitors here in CyberCity.” reported an employee of CyberLab to the boss who is the CEO.

“Huh? Where?” the boss asked.

“We’re detecting a group of seven inhabitants from the human world.” The employee said.

“Well, who are they?” asked the boss.

“It’s unknown. It’s a group of tweens and one teenager.” The employee replied. “Also, there’s two disturbances happening here!”

“Well, what is it?” The boss asked.

“It’s a fire-like demon virus, (similar to an Ifrit) and a dark black demon virus causing trouble here in cyberspace, heating up the whole cyber city and I think these seven people might be the cause.” the employee explained.

“Alert Sunset and her friends.” the Boss ordered as he and the other CyberLab employees started to send the signal.

Meanwhile, The Rainbooms, Princess Twilight, Sci-Twi, Spike, Starlight and Trixie were having a decent Saturday. They were hanging out together, bringing their pets with them.

“Man, it sure is peaceful here in the city.” Sunset sighed in relief.

“Yeah, but I’m worried about Sweetie Belle, she’s been missing since yesterday.” Rarity replied, feeling sad.

“Same with Apple Bloom, she’s been missing since yesterday too.” Applejack said, looking worried.

“Oh, they’ll be back soon.” Fluttershy said as she held Angel Bunny.

“Yeah.” Sunset nodded. But before the girls along with their pets and the two Spike counterparts could continue with their weekend, their medals begin beeping and it appears that CyberLab Industries are calling them back to Cyberspace.

“Huh? The medals have never done that before.” Princess Twilight exclaimed.

“Same here.” Sci-Twi said.

“Well, we’d better go to Cyberspace and check what’s going on!” Sunset replied.

Just then, The group all press their hands on their medals and open a portal that they step through with the two Spike counterparts and their pets, the humans transforming into their Cyberspace forms as they go through.

Once they arrived, they find themselves in the CyberLab Industries building where the scientists have something dire to explain.

“We’ve got your message, what’s going on here?” Sunset asked.

“Thank goodness you’re here. We came to tell you about—” The employee said.

“Where is Sweetie Belle?!” Rarity interrupted.

“…and where’s Apple Bloom?!” continued Applejack.

“Well, that’s what we’re here to talk about.” the employee said, as the scientists played cam footage of the hideout where the CMCs, Snips, Snails, Diamond, Silver and Button Mash were (the footage was taken from their first night in Cyberspace)!

“Oh, my goodness!!!” Rarity and Applejack gasped in surprise.

“Those two along with Scootaloo and four freshmen including one teen from our school are in Cyberspace?!” Sunset asked in shock.

“Yup, that’s why we need your help.” The scientist replied. “And that’s not all, there are two viruses that are causing a heatwave here in the city.
