The Royal Crown Ball

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

The following morning, the Rainbooms gathered on a video call to check in with each other. Rarity had been the first to log in, her face framed by her perfectly styled hair and the faint glow of her vanity mirror. However, she was speaking so rapidly and dramatically that no one could make sense of her words.

“And then, just when I thought everything was going swimmingly, bam! Disaster struck! I don’t know how it slipped my mind, but I—oh, the horror!”

“Uh, Rares,” Applejack interjected, her brow furrowed as she tried to follow the torrent of words. “You’re talkin’ faster than Pinkie on a sugar rush. Take a breath and start from the top, would ya?”

Rarity paused, dramatically placing a hand over her heart. “You’re right, Applejack. I must compose myself. Ahem.”

The rest of the group waited patiently as Rarity adjusted her posture and took a deep breath.

“Here’s the situation, darlings,” she began. “I have been approached by none other than the Canterlot Billionaires Association—the CBA—to host their Annual Royal Crown Ball this weekend!”

The camera feed showed various reactions. Sunset and Fluttershy smiled politely, while Rainbow Dash raised an eyebrow.

“Uh... what’s a Royal Crown Ball?” Rainbow asked, crossing her arms.

“It’s a fancy party, Rainbow Dash,” Rarity explained, slightly exasperated. “One where only the crème de la crème of Canterlot’s elite gather for an evening of elegance, sophistication, and—most importantly—networking.”

“So... no pizza and video games?” Rainbow said, unimpressed.

Rarity sighed dramatically. “No, Rainbow Dash, no pizza and video games. This is the opportunity of a lifetime! If all goes well, I may even earn a seat at their table—a permanent position among the city’s most influential designers and entrepreneurs. It’s been my dream for years!”

“That’s awesome, Rarity!” Sunset said. “So what’s the problem?”

Rarity’s face suddenly fell, and her dramatic demeanor returned in full force. “The problem, Sunset, is that I—” She let out a long, theatrical sigh. “—forgot to finalize the catering arrangements! And now, with only days to spare, the company I had lined up has pulled the plug!

“What!?” Fluttershy gasped.

“Yep,” Rarity continued, her voice trembling. “They called this morning to tell me they’ve overbooked and can no longer fulfill their commitment. I’m left with no caterers, no menu, and no time to find replacements! It’s an utter catastrophe!

As the group processed the news, Rarity let out a faint gasp and pressed the back of her hand to her forehead. “I feel faint just thinking about it!”

Before Rarity could completely spiral, Pinkie Pie leaned forward on the screen, her face practically pressed against the camera. “Ooh! Ooh! Pick me!”

Rarity blinked. “What are you talking about, darling?”

“I can handle the catering!” Pinkie exclaimed, bouncing up and down in her seat. “I’ve got all these cookbooks I collected during my food road trip this summer! I’ve been dying to try out some of the recipes!”

The girls stared at her, surprised.

“You went on a food road trip?” Sunset asked.

“Yup! Across five states!” Pinkie said, pulling out a stack of colorful cookbooks and flipping through them with lightning speed. “I’ve got recipes for mini quiches, berry tarts, gourmet sliders, fancy soups—you name it! Plus, I learned so much from all the chefs I met!”

“That’s... actually kinda impressive,” Applejack admitted.

“Pinkie, are you sure you can handle something as formal as this?” Rarity asked, skeptical but hopeful.

Pinkie grinned confidently. “Rarity, leave it to me! I’ll make the fanciest, most delicious food Canterlot’s elite have ever tasted!”

The evening had arrived, and the grand Royal Crown Ball was in full swing at City Hall. The massive venue was decorated to perfection, with chandeliers casting soft golden light over the elegantly dressed attendees. At the center of the room, an elaborate ice sculpture of two swans intertwined stood proudly, surrounded by elegantly arranged floral bouquets.

At the catering table, Pinkie Pie was putting the finishing touches on her entrées, her usual energy channeled into presenting dishes that were both creative and refined.

Rarity approached the table, her dress shimmering with every step as she inspected the display. “Pinkie, I must say, this all looks... surprisingly elegant. But I can’t help but notice some of these dishes are a little, well... unconventional.”

Pinkie beamed, gesturing proudly to the spread. “Oh, I know! I got the recipes from Nick DiGiovanni’s Knife Drop Cookbook! Fancy but with a little twist! Like this one—miso caramel popcorn. It’s salty, sweet, and perfect for a fancy party and a movie night!”

Rarity blinked. “Well... it does look divine. Let’s hope the guests are adventurous!”

Meanwhile, across the room, Applejack and Rainbow Dash stood near the drinks table, both dressed in sharp tuxedos.

“I still don’t get why we couldn’t just wear jeans,” Rainbow muttered, adjusting her bowtie.

Applejack smirked. “Because it’s a fancy party, Rainbow. Though I’ll admit, wearin’ a dress would’ve felt even stranger.”

On the stage, Twilight was helping Vinyl Scratch adjust her DJ equipment, making sure the sound system was flawless. Nearby, Fluttershy and Sunset were adding the final touches to the decorations, hanging garlands and adjusting the placement of the centerpieces.

Rarity surveyed the room with a satisfied smile, wiping a bead of sweat from her forehead. The ball was going smoothly—guests were mingling, enjoying the food, and complimenting the elegant ambiance. Everything was perfect.

Until the room began to shake.

At first, it was subtle—a faint tremor that made the champagne glasses on the tables clink together. But then it grew stronger, causing chandeliers to sway and the floor to rumble beneath their feet.

“Uh, does it feel like the whole room is shaking?” Rainbow asked, glancing around.

“That’s because it is!” Applejack exclaimed, steadying herself against a nearby table.

Before anyone could react further, a massive drill burst through the floor in the center of the ballroom, sending shards of marble flying in all directions. Guests screamed as they scrambled to get out of the way.

Twilight stared at the massive machine in shock. “What is that?!

The drill began to shift and transform, unfolding into a towering exoskeleton armor. The machine’s arms were equipped with smaller drills and various weapons, and its chest bore a glowing red power core. The figure inside the armor leaned forward, revealing himself to be a burly man with a rugged face and a wicked grin.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” he bellowed, his voice amplified by speakers in the armor, “allow me to introduce myself! I am Heavy Drill, and I’m here to claim the riches of Canterlot’s elite!”

Fancy Pants, one of the ball’s most prominent attendees, stepped forward, adjusting his tie and speaking calmly into the microphone. “Sir, this is a private affair, and I must inform you that you did not RSVP.”

Heavy Drill laughed darkly. “Consider this my RSVP!”

Before anyone could stop him, Heavy Drill raised his arm, and a laser beam shot out, narrowly missing Fancy Pants as the distinguished gentleman ducked behind the podium. The laser struck the swan ice sculpture, melting it instantly.

Rarity let out a horrified shriek. “Not the swans!

As chaos erupted, Pinkie grabbed Rarity and pulled her away from the danger. “C’mon, Rarity, we’ve got to go!”

Sunset quickly took charge, yelling above the commotion. “Applejack, Rainbow—transform! We’ll get everyone else to safety!”

Applejack and Rainbow Dash nodded, activating their geodes as their transformations took hold. Applejack became Apple Smasher, her fists encased in rocky armor, while Rainbow Dash transformed into Blue Thunder, lightning crackling around her hands.

Heavy Drill turned to the two heroes, unimpressed. “You think you can stop me? Bring it on!”

Blue Thunder was the first to act, hurling a bolt of lightning at Heavy Drill. The electricity crackled across his armor, but a glowing shield activated, absorbing the energy.

“He’s got a shield!” Rainbow shouted.

Apple Smasher charged forward, swinging a powerful punch at Heavy Drill’s exoskeleton. The impact sent a loud clang echoing through the ballroom, but the villain caught her fist with one of his mechanical arms.

“Nice try,” Heavy Drill sneered, twisting Apple Smasher’s arm and hurling her across the room. She crashed into the dessert table, landing in the remains of Pinkie’s carefully crafted cake.

“My cake!” Pinkie cried, devastated.

As the battle raged on, Heavy Drill extended one of his mechanical arms and grabbed Fancy Pants by the collar, lifting him off the ground.

“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be taking my leave—with a little insurance,” Heavy Drill said, gesturing to Fancy Pants.

“Let him go!” Blue Thunder shouted, but before she could intervene, Heavy Drill activated the drill on his exoskeleton, boring a hole into the floor.

With a maniacal laugh, Heavy Drill and his captive disappeared into the ground, leaving the ballroom in shambles.

Sunset ran over to help Apple Smasher to her feet. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, just my pride that’s bruised,” Apple Smasher muttered, brushing cake off her shoulder.

Rarity, still recovering from the loss of her ice sculpture and the chaos of the night, clutched her chest dramatically. “This is an absolute disaster!

“We’ll fix this,” Sunset said, determination in her voice. “But first, we need to find out where Heavy Drill went—and fast.”

Rarity’s eyes sparkled with renewed hope. “Pinkie Pie, you may have just saved the Royal Crown Ball—and my future!”

“Don’t sweat it!” Pinkie said, saluting. “This is gonna be the most fun catering project ever!

As the call ended, Rarity sighed in relief. While the ball still had plenty of other moving pieces, at least one major problem was now in Pinkie’s capable (and slightly chaotic) hands.

Back at the Rainbooms’ clubhouse, the atmosphere was tense. Applejack and Rainbow Dash sat on the couch, ice packs pressed against their bruises from their earlier fight with Heavy Drill. Rarity paced back and forth, her breathing shallow as she clutched a paper bag, repeatedly inhaling and exhaling.

“This is the absolute worst luck ever!” Rarity wailed, her voice muffled slightly by the bag. “Not only was my event ruined, but a supervillain crashed my party! My party!

Pinkie Pie nodded solemnly, munching on a cupcake. “She’s got a point. That was pretty bad.”

Meanwhile, at the computer station, Twilight and Sunset were poring over the Canterlot City Police Department’s database. Twilight’s fingers flew across the keyboard as she pulled up file after file on Heavy Drill, scanning through the information with laser focus.

“Got it!” Twilight said triumphantly. “I’ve managed to dig up some serious dirt on Heavy Drill.”

Sunset leaned over her shoulder, reading the screen. “Looks like he’s been involved in everything from construction equipment heists to sabotaging mining operations. And... oh, great, he’s wanted in three different cities.”

“That’s not all,” Twilight added, pulling up a schematic. “I also found blueprints for his suit, which he calls the Driller Suit. This thing is impressive—enhanced strength, laser capabilities, reinforced shielding, underground tunneling—”

She paused, her eyes wide with admiration. “I mean, as a piece of engineering, it’s incredible.”

Sunset gave Twilight a pointed look.

Twilight quickly backtracked, nervously adjusting her glasses. “Not that I’m, you know, condoning his actions or anything. I’m just... appreciating the design.”

“Uh-huh,” Sunset said, raising an eyebrow.

After studying the blueprints, Twilight tracked Heavy Drill’s location to the docks on the edge of Canterlot City. As she relayed the information to the others, Rarity suddenly stopped pacing and turned toward the group with a determined look.

“I’m handling this myself,” she declared.

Sunset frowned. “Rarity, are you sure that’s a good idea? We should all go together—”

Applejack placed a hand on Sunset’s shoulder, shaking her head. “Trust me, Sunset. Rarity’s got that look in her eye. Ain’t no reasoning with her when she’s ticked off.”

Fluttershy, sitting quietly in the corner, let out a small sigh of relief. “Honestly, I feel bad for Heavy Drill. Not even a villain would dare mess with Rarity when she’s this mad.”

Rainbow Dash grinned, wincing slightly from her bruises. “Heavy Drill is so screwed.”

Rarity activated her geode, her body glowing faintly as she transformed into Crystal Freeze, her superhero alter ego. Her outfit sparkled with icy blues and silvers, and a crown-like tiara of crystal adorned her head.

“I’ll make sure to repay that brute for ruining my party,” Crystal Freeze said with a dramatic flourish. “He’ll learn the hard way not to mess with my events.”

Without waiting for further discussion, she marched out of the clubhouse, her heels clicking with purpose.

At the docks...

Heavy Drill stood near a stack of shipping containers, glaring down at Fancy Pants, who was tied to a chair. The villain paced back and forth, contemplating his next move.

“What to do with you?” Heavy Drill mused aloud. “You’re worth a lot of money to the right people. If I play my cards right, the elite of Canterlot will bend over backward to meet my demands.”

Fancy Pants, despite his predicament, remained calm. “You may think you have the upper hand, sir, but your behavior will not go unpunished. Mark my words.”

Heavy Drill sneered. “We’ll see about that.”

Suddenly, a loud clang echoed through the docks as something struck the Driller Suit’s armor. Heavy Drill turned sharply to see a glowing crystal embedded in the ground near his feet.

“What the—?” he began, but his words trailed off as he spotted Crystal Freeze standing atop a shipping container, her arms crossed and a serious expression on her face.

“This is your one and only warning,” Crystal Freeze said, her voice cold and commanding. “Release Fancy Pants and leave quietly, or face the consequences.”

Heavy Drill laughed, his voice booming through his suit’s speakers. “You’re bluffing. What can one fancy-dressed wannabe hero do to me?”

Crystal Freeze raised an eyebrow. “You’ll find out soon enough.”

Heavy Drill fired his laser cannon at her, a concentrated beam of energy slicing through the air. But to his surprise, Crystal Freeze conjured a diamond shield, blocking the blast with ease. The laser ricocheted harmlessly into the water.

“Is that all you’ve got?” Crystal Freeze taunted.

Gritting his teeth, Heavy Drill prepared to fire again, but Crystal Freeze was faster. She summoned two diamond blades and leapt gracefully from the shipping container, slashing at the laser cannon with precision. Sparks flew as the cannon was severed, leaving Heavy Drill’s suit without its primary weapon.

“WHAT?!” Heavy Drill roared.

Enraged, he swung one of the suit’s massive arms at Crystal Freeze, but she dodged with elegance, her movements swift and deliberate. She countered with a flurry of slashes, each one slicing into the suit’s armor.

With one final move, Crystal Freeze unleashed a freezing blast from her geode, encasing Heavy Drill in a layer of solid ice. The villain struggled against the frost, but it was no use—his suit was immobilized.

Crystal Freeze stepped forward, shattering the ice around Fancy Pants’s chair with a wave of her hand. “Are you alright, Mr. Pants?”

Fancy Pants smiled warmly as he stood, brushing off his suit. “Thanks to you, my dear. You have my eternal gratitude.”

Crystal Freeze smirked. “I may have an idea on how you can repay me.”

The sunlight poured into Rarity’s boutique as she sat at her design table, her hands expertly guiding a sketching pencil over a blank sheet of paper. Her workspace was filled with swatches of fabric, sewing tools, and a mannequin adorned with a partially finished dress. The success of the ball had reignited her creativity, and she was brimming with ideas for her next collection.

“Perfection doesn’t rest,” she hummed to herself as she added a flourish to the gown in her sketchbook.

Her focus was interrupted by the sound of the front door creaking open. Sweetie Belle peeked inside, holding a small stack of mail.

“Mail’s here!” Sweetie Belle chirped, skipping over to her sister.

“Thank you, Sweetie Belle,” Rarity said absentmindedly, still engrossed in her sketch.

Sweetie Belle set the mail on the table but froze when she noticed a sleek white envelope bearing the elegant gold logo of the Canterlot Billionaires Association (CBA).

“Rarity!” Sweetie Belle exclaimed, picking up the envelope and waving it in front of her. “This one’s from the CBA!”

Rarity’s eyes widened as she immediately set down her pencil and snatched the envelope from her sister’s hands. “Oh my stars!” she gasped, clutching it dramatically. “This must be the result of my efforts at the ball!”

“Open it! Open it!” Sweetie Belle said, bouncing with excitement.

Rarity carefully tore open the envelope, her hands trembling slightly. She unfolded the letter and began to read. Her eyes scanned the page quickly, and with each word, her expression lit up more and more.

“To put it simply,” she said, her voice trembling with emotion, “I’ve been accepted into the Canterlot Billionaires Association!”

Sweetie Belle clapped her hands. “That’s awesome, Rarity!”

Rarity leapt from her chair, twirling in delight. “Oh, Sweetie Belle, this is a dream come true! All my hard work has finally paid off!”

Sweetie Belle giggled at her sister’s happy dance before grabbing her backpack. “I’m gonna go meet Apple Bloom and Scootaloo at the park. Have fun celebrating, Rarity!”

“Have fun, darling!” Rarity called after her as Sweetie Belle left the boutique.

As soon as the door closed, Rarity resumed her impromptu happy dance, twirling and spinning around the room.

“Accepted into the CBA! Oh, this is the best day of my—”

Her phone buzzed on the table, cutting off her celebration. Rarity quickly composed herself and answered the call.

“Hello, this is Rarity,” she said, her voice professional yet warm.

“Miss Rarity! Sapphire Shores here,” came the smooth, confident voice on the other end.

Rarity froze, her eyes widening in shock. “Sapphire Shores? The Sapphire Shores?”

“The one and only,” Sapphire replied with a chuckle. “Listen, I’ve been hearing some buzz about you from my contacts in Canterlot’s fashion scene. Word is, you’re one of the best designers in the city.”

Rarity could barely contain her excitement. “I—I’m flattered! To what do I owe this honor?”

“I’m gearing up for my next tour,” Sapphire explained, “and I need some fresh, fabulous outfits to make a statement. Your name came highly recommended, so I wanted to reach out and see if you’d be interested in designing a few pieces for me.”

Rarity clutched the phone tightly, her heart racing. “Oh, absolutely! It would be an honor to design for you, Miss Shores!”

“Fantastic,” Sapphire said. “And don’t worry, I pay very handsomely for good work. My assistant will be in touch to arrange the details. I’ll need the first drafts by the end of the month.”

“You can count on me!” Rarity promised.

“Looking forward to it,” Sapphire said before ending the call.

Rarity set her phone down, her hands trembling with excitement. “Sapphire Shores, one of the hottest music artists in the city, wants me to design her tour outfits!”

She collapsed dramatically onto her fainting couch, her hand over her heart. “I feel like I’m dreaming!”

But this wasn’t a dream—this was real. Her hard work, her passion, and her dedication were finally paying off in ways she’d only ever imagined.

“First the CBA, now Sapphire Shores,” Rarity said to herself, her voice filled with determination. “This is just the beginning.”

With renewed focus, she returned to her design table, ready to take on the challenges ahead.
