Hit'em Where They Live

Previous Chapter

Morning sunlight cast over the speeding Canterlot Freight Train, but the peaceful scene was shattered by the sound of Blue Thunder being thrown onto a train car with a thud.

“Ugh… okay, ow!” Rainbow Dash muttered as she pushed herself up.

Standing above her was Steelfist, an old foe—a burly criminal with cybernetic arms capable of crushing steel. He smirked as he approached the gold bar shipment stored in the car.

“You’re too slow this time, Thunder! This train’s payin’ for my retirement!” Steelfist sneered.

But before he could reach the gold—

Apple Smasher landed beside Rainbow, while Crystal Freeze, Solar Flame, Star Sparkle, Butterfly, and Sugar Girl appeared on top of the cars.

“You didn’t think we’d let you have all the fun, did ya?” Apple Smasher cracked her knuckles.

Get ‘em!” Steelfist barked.

His henchmen, Chain and Chuck, leapt from another car, attempting a sneak attack—

But Apple Smasher was ready. She whipped a stone-reinforced lasso around them, yanking them together and tying them up like rodeo calves.

“This is the part where y’all give up,” she said smugly.

The thugs sighed in defeat. “We surrender…”

Seeing his crew taken out, Steelfist growled and turned to flee—

CRACK!

Blue Thunder fired a thunderbolt, striking his cybernetic arms. Sparks flew as his systems short-circuited, and he collapsed onto the gold bars.

“That’s for sucker-punching me,” Blue Thunder muttered, dusting herself off.

Later at the Clubhouse...

Twilight was at her workbench, upgrading the clubhouse’s security system, installing motion detectors, reinforced door locks, and magical seals.

“No more uninvited guests. Especially Mirage,” she muttered to herself, adjusting the system.

In the Rest Area, Rarity reclined with a mud mask and cucumber slices over her eyes, trying to unwind after a chaotic week.

“This is the fourth attack this week alone!” she sighed dramatically. “**Steelfist today. Crabber at the fair. Thornblade trying to destroy the Canterlot Chem Lab. And let’s not forget the Rogues nearly leveling the city!

Sunset leaned against the wall, arms crossed. “You’re right… but what if it’s not random?

Rarity lifted a cucumber slice. “What do you mean?

Rainbow stretched her arms, wincing from a lingering bruise. “She means—what if someone’s sending them after us? Like, on purpose?

Sunset nodded. “Exactly. It’s starting to feel like **someone’s organizing these attacks—**like they’re trying to wear us down.

The girls exchanged uneasy glances.

Inside the closed Canterlot Science Center, shadows loomed over dusty exhibits and dimly lit hallways. Hidden from the public eye, three familiar enemies of the Crystal Guardians gathered in secrecy.

Cozy Glow, Chrysalis, and Dead-Eye—each with a score to settle.

“He said he’d be here,” Dead-Eye grumbled, arms crossed. His cybernetic eye glowed faintly red, scanning the area impatiently.

“Well, he’s not,Chrysalis snapped, arms akimbo, her piercing green eyes narrowed. “And I don’t know about you two, but I don’t like waiting for anyone.

Cozy Glow, the deceptively sweet-faced yet twisted schemer, gave a nervous glance around the room. “Maybe he—”

Before she could finish—

A distorted cackle echoed through the room.

Out from the shadows stepped a figure that made even Pinkie Pie shiver in fear—

Mad Jack.

His painted, nightmarish grin stretched ear to ear, and his wild eyes gleamed with madness. He twirled his prank-pop gun before casually tossing it aside, the metallic clank ringing out through the stillness.

Mad Jack...Chrysalis gasped, her confident posture briefly faltering.

Cozy Glow gulped, her wide eyes trembling as she instinctively clung to Chrysalis’s leg like a scared child.

The next day, Night Light was driving down a quiet road, heading toward the garden center to pick up a grow lamp.

Unbeknownst to him, in the bushes nearby…

Mad Jack, Chrysalis, Dead-Eye, and Cozy Glow—the latter suited up in her Cozy Clobber mechwatched like predators stalking their prey.

Mad Jack snickered, twirling a juggling pin. “Would you look at that… all alone. No Guardians.

Dead-Eye smirked. “Easy pickings.”

Suddenly, Mad Jack tossed metal jacks into the road, puncturing Night Light’s tires. His car swerved to the side, coming to a shaky stop.

Stepping out, Night Light frowned as he inspected the damage. “Must’ve hit a spike strip…” he muttered, shaking his head. He popped the trunk to get the spare tire.

Chrysalis cracked her knuckles. “So… who gets first crack at him?”

Before any of them could move—

How about us?

A voice called out.

The villains turned sharply to see the Crystal Guardians standing in formation.

Blue Thunder, Solar Flame, Apple Smasher, Star Sparkle, Sugar Girl, Crystal Freeze, and Butterfly—all ready for battle.

Mad Jack’s grin widened.Nice entrance… but your exit’s gonna be even better.

He whipped out a colorful water squirter and fired—

A stream of acid shot out, burning through a tree like butter.

Star Sparkle threw up a magic shield, blocking the next spray.

Sugar Girl gasped.A squirter that sprays acid? That’s a new one!

Chrysalis summoned her crystal sword, locking eyes with Crystal Freeze.

I’m going to enjoy tearing you apart!Chrysalis hissed.

Crystal Freeze summoned her own crystalline blade.Let’s see you try.

Their swords clashed in a flurry of icy sparks.

Sorry, girls,” Mad Jack began with mock politeness, his grin never fading, “I’m quite the punctual guy—but, alas, I got a little caught up in my work.

He gestured to a smear of paint—and something more sinister—on his gloves.

“It’s so hard to find good help these days,” he chuckled darkly.

Dead-Eye rolled his eye. “Dude, we get it. You’re crazy. Also nuts. Move on.”

Jack’s grin twitched, but he kept his cool.

“The real problem,” Dead-Eye continued, “is those blasted Guardians. Steelfist, Thornblade, Crabber—the whole lot got stomped, and this Darklight guy promised to pay big if someone took them out.

Chrysalis crossed her arms. “And nobody’s delivered.

Jack’s grin sharpened, his tone lowering to a more calculated edge.

That’s why I called you three here. I’m taking matters into my own hands. But, well… I need the best to watch my back.”

He gestured toward them.

Cozy Glow, regaining some confidence, tilted her head. “Okay, Jacky, but every time we go after them, they show up and beat us down. So... what’s your big plan?

Jack’s eyes gleamed.

Chrysalis smirked, piecing it together.

“The answer’s simple,” Chrysalis said, a predatory grin curling on her lips.We don’t attack them right away. We hit them when they least expect it.

Jack clapped his hands slowly, his twisted glee intensifying.

Now we’re thinking like a team.

Dead-Eye charged his cybernetic eye, firing a red laser beam at Sugar Girl.

Sugar Girl cartwheeled out of the way, grabbing a confetti bomb from her hair.

“Confetti Kick!”

Her foot—supercharged with a burst of party magic—connected with Dead-Eye’s jaw, sending him sprawling.

Cozy Glow’s mech stomped toward Sugar Girl.

Hey! Pick on someone your own size!Butterfly called out.

Dozens of birds swooped down, pecking and flapping around Cozy’s cockpit.

Shoo! Shoo, you feathered freaks!” she yelled, swatting wildly.

Blue Thunder took the opening, sprinting forward and placing her hands on the mech.

CRACKLE—ZZT!

She drained the power from Cozy’s suit, causing it to power down and slump.

System error… rebooting…” Cozy groaned inside. “Ugh! Not fair!

Mad Jack kept firing acid blasts at Star Sparkle’s shield, hoping it would melt.

Come on, crack! Crack already!” he cackled.

Solar Flame narrowed her eyes.

She formed a small fireball, aimed carefully, and—

BOOM!

The squirt gun exploded in Mad Jack’s hand, forcing him to toss it away.

That’s not funny!” he barked.

Apple Smasher cracked her knuckles.

I’m not laughin’.

Mad Jack swung his hammer wildly, but Apple Smasher dodged and landed a brutal uppercut—

Sending him flying backward.

The villains regrouped, panting and glaring.

Mad Jack scowled.Okay… time to bail.

He pulled a red balloon from his coat, blowing it up rapidly.

POP!

Confetti burst out—

And the four villains vanished in a flash of smoke.

The Guardians stood there, baffled.

Did they just… disappear?Star Sparkle blinked.

Blue Thunder frowned.Great. He’s adding teleportation to his stupid pranks now?

Meanwhile…

Night Light—completely oblivious—finished tightening his spare tire.

That should do it…” he muttered, wiping his hands. He drove off without a clue of the battle that had just unfolded behind him.

Later, back at the Clubhouse…

Solar Flame shook her head.Looks like Mad Jack’s stepping up his bag of tricks.

Crystal Freeze frowned.Where on Earth did he get an acid-spraying squirter?

Blue Thunder grinned.Jokes’R’Us?

The girls laughed.

Star Sparkle sighed with relief.I’m just glad my dad’s okay.

Solar Flame placed a hand on her shoulder.Good thing he never knew about the fight.

The four villains retreated to their hideout, licking their wounds after their failed ambush.

Cozy Glow knelt beside her Cozy Clobber mech, sparks crackling as she worked to restore power to its systems.

Come on… reboot… yes!” The mech hummed back to life. She wiped her brow and began cleaning off the scorch marks left from Blue Thunder’s energy drain.

Dead-Eye sat on a crate, reattaching his cybernetic arm with a scowl, the metal clicking into place.

Chrysalis sat against the wall, arms crossed, her green eyes simmering with frustration.

“So much for teamwork,” Cozy muttered.

Chrysalis growled.I could’ve finally finished Crystal Freeze off if you lot hadn’t gotten in my way. I’m better off fighting them on my own.

Before anyone could respond, Mad Jack let out a low, eerie chuckle, his painted grin widening.

No, no, no, Chrysalis,” he said, standing and twirling a juggling pin. “You’re looking at this the complete wrong way.

Dead-Eye snapped his head up.Yeah? And how exactly are we supposed to look at it, genius?

Mad Jack’s twisted grin didn’t falter. He leaned in, eyes dancing with manic delight.

“We learned a great deal from that little skirmish. Every move they made. Every weakness. And now…” He licked his lips, his voice dropping into a sinister whisper. “I finally know how to put an end to those Crystal Fools for good.

The room went still.

Cozy Glow raised an eyebrow.Well, we’re listening, clown.

Mad Jack’s grin stretched unnaturally wide, his eyes wild with excitement.

Have any of you ever heard of the term…

He leaned in closer, his voice a low, wicked hiss:

“Divide and conquer?”

At the Canterlot Mall…

Twilight Sparkle and her mother, Twilight Velvet, stood inside the Tech Shop. Twilight adjusted her glasses as she helped her mom set up a new iPhone—an upgrade long overdue.

“I told you, Mom,” Twilight said with a smile. “You can’t just keep using a phone from ten years ago.

Velvet chuckled. “Hey, it still made calls!

Before Twilight could respond—

Screams echoed from the center of the mall, followed by loud explosions.

Twilight Velvet tensed. “What’s going on?” she asked, concern etched on her face.

Twilight’s heart raced, but she kept a calm expression. “Stay here, Mom. I’ll check it out.”

Velvet nodded reluctantly.

The moment she turned away, Twilight slipped into a side corridor, clutching her geode.

Star Sparkle!” she whispered, activating her magic and transforming into her alter-ego.

At the Mall’s Center Court…

Star Sparkle arrived to find Chrysalis holding stolen money and leading a group of changeling-like minions.

The moment Chrysalis spotted her, she growled. “Ugh. You again. Get her!

The changelings charged, but Star Sparkle calmly lifted her hands.

A gravity surge pulsed from her geode, making the changelings collapse to the floor, unable to stand.

“It’s only ONE Crystal Guardian!” Chrysalis snapped at her henchmen. “Can’t you idiots do anything right?!

She lunged at Star Sparkle, tackling her to the ground.

“We’ve done this dance before, Chrysalis,” Star Sparkle grunted, straining against her. “And it never ends well for you.

With a powerful kick, she launched Chrysalis backward.

Chrysalis smirked as she dusted herself off.

You really ought to watch your back, missy. Someone could get hurt.

Before Star Sparkle could react—

A mechanical fist slammed into her side, sending her sprawling.

Cozy Glow—in her Cozy Clobber mech—stood there, smirking.

Nighty night!” she giggled.

Star Sparkle groaned, trying to rise—

But her blood ran cold as she saw Dead-Eye on his communicator.

“We got the mom.”

Mom?!Twilight gasped, eyes wide with panic.

She forced herself to stand—

But Mad Jack appeared from behind, spraying knockout gas directly into her face.

Coughing and stumbling, her vision blurred—

She collapsed into darkness.

Hours Later—At the Clubhouse…

The Guardians gathered, surrounding a weak and disoriented Twilight, who lay on the couch, slowly regaining consciousness.

Her eyes darted around anxiously.

My mom… they took my mom!” Twilight stammered, tears forming.

Sunset knelt beside her, gripping her hand. We’ll get her back. I promise.

Applejack placed a hand on Twilight’s shoulder. We’re not leavin’ family behind, Twi. We’re gonna bring her home.

Fluttershy whispered softly. But where would they take her?

The room fell silent for a moment—until Rainbow Dash’s eyes narrowed.

Knowing Mad Jack?” she muttered.

Everyone turned toward her.

“There’s only one place he’d go back to…

Sunset’s eyes lit up with realization. The Science Center.

The Crystal Guardians crept into the closed Canterlot Science Center, the air thick with tension.

The two heroines moved carefully past model rockets and planetary displays.

Dead-Eye emerged from the shadows, cracking his knuckles with a mechanical whirr.

Fancy seein’ you two.

Apple Smasher stepped forward.Where’s Twilight Velvet?

Dead-Eye smirked. “Who? No clue, sweetheart.

Blue Thunder clenched her fists. We can do this the easy way… or we get answers the hard way.

Dead-Eye’s cybernetic eye glowed, and he raised his laser cannon arm

Thought you’d never ask.

Sugar Girl’s hair suddenly frazzled, sensing danger.

Wait—trap!” she shouted.

BOOM!

She fired a confetti blast from her Party Cannon, exploding a cluster of hidden changelings lying in wait for an ambush.

Blue Thunder scowled.Okay, they knew we were coming.

Solar Flame narrowed her eyes.Alright, we split up. If you see anything—

Alert the others, got it,” Apple Smasher finished.

The team split, cautiously moving through the dark exhibits.

In the Space Section with Apple Smasher and Blue Thunder...

In the Hall of Mirrors with Butterfly, Sugar Girl, Crystal Freeze...

The three Guardians stepped into the eerie mirror maze, their reflections multiplying infinitely.

Sugar Girl tensed, sensing something.

Duck!” she yelled.

A venomous blast splattered across a mirror, sizzling through the glass.

Chrysalis and Cozy Glow emerged from the reflections.

Crystal Freeze summoned her crystal sword.Bad idea sneaking up on someone in a hall of mirrors.

Chrysalis sneered.You’ll never find Velvet.

She clapped her hands together, creating a shockwave

Shattering the mirrors around them.

Changeling minions poured out from the broken shards, their eyes glowing with menace.

Cozy Glow grinned. That is… assuming you survive long enough to look.

WIth Solar Flame and Star Sparkle, at the Robotics Lab...

The two girls moved carefully, sensors buzzing around them.

Suddenly—

Darts flew past their heads, embedding into the wall.

Mad Jack emerged, twirling a colorful cane.

You two are such a delight.

Star Sparkle’s eyes burned with fury.Where’s my mom, you psycho?!

Mad Jack grinned wide.Oh, she’s fine. Probably having tea as we speak.

He twirled the cane faster, his eyes gleaming with madness.

But you? You should be worried.

Star Sparkle raised her fists, her magic crackling.Bring it.

Dead-Eye swung a powerful punch at Blue Thunder, but she ducked swiftly, her speed giving her the edge. She retaliated with a hard kick to his chest, sending him stumbling backward.

Fast, but not fast enough!” Dead-Eye barked.

His cybernetic eye glowed red, firing a searing laser beam.

Apple Smasher stepped in front of Blue Thunder, taking the blast directly to her chest.

Dead-Eye smirked. “Ha! Gotcha—

But Apple Smasher stood firm, only slightly dazed. She gritted her teeth through the pain.

“You’re gonna wish you didn’t do that,” she growled.

Together, Apple Smasher and Blue Thunder delivered a synchronized punch—one to Dead-Eye’s jaw, the other to his mechanical eye.

CRACK!

Dead-Eye collapsed onto his back, groaning. His cybernetic lens sparked, flickering with damage.

Blue Thunder knelt beside him, her tone sharp.Who’s been sending all these villains after us? Who put the target on our backs?”

Dead-Eye coughed, blood trickling from his lip. “I ain’t tellin’ you nothin’.

Apple Smasher cracked her knuckles, her eyes hard as stone. “You sure about that, partner?

Her glare alone made Dead-Eye hesitate.

He groaned, giving in. “Alright, alright! It’s Darklight! He put the bounty on you! He wants you outta the picture.

Blue Thunder’s eyes narrowed.Who the heck is Darklight?

Dead-Eye panted. “Don’t know much… just that he’s serious. And he’s got connections. Real bad ones.

The Changeling minions kept swarming, their numbers endless—

But Sugar Girl blasted them away with her Party Cannon, switching it to ice mode.

FWOOOSH!

A frosty blast froze several changelings solid, trapping them like insects in ice.

Cozy Glow, frustrated, aimed her mech’s cannon. “Oh, you are so gonna regret—

Before she could fire—

Butterfly called on a gust of wind, blowing loose snow and frost across the mech’s joints.

The Cozy Clobber froze in place, gears locking up.

What the—!?” Cozy frantically pressed buttons, but the mech wouldn’t budge.

Crystal Freeze seized the opportunity, slashing her crystalline blade.

SHING!

She sliced off the cannon barrel, rendering Cozy’s weapon useless.

Ugh! You Guardians are the worst!” Cozy whined.

Before they could celebrate—

Chrysalis tackled Crystal Freeze, pinning her to the ground.

I’ll break you this time! ” Chrysalis snarled; her eyes filled with rage.

Butterfly’s instincts kicked in. Her geode glowed faintly, and her eyes flashed green.

Tapping into the strength of a bear, she grabbed Chrysalis and hurled her off Crystal Freeze, sending the villainess crashing into a pile of broken mirrors.

Before Chrysalis could recover, Butterfly locked eyes with her, activating The Stare.

Chrysalis froze, her body trembling under the intense gaze.

Where is Twilight Velvet?” Butterfly’s voice, though gentle, carried an unbreakable authority.

Chrysalis struggled but couldn’t resist.

“She’s… in the basement lab… secured under lock and key.

Butterfly released the stare, and Chrysalis collapsed, panting.

Sugar Girl smirked.Yay! Go team!

Solar Flame stood her ground, flames subtly flickering along her fingertips.

“You were never much of a threat, clown,” she said with a dangerous edge.

Mad Jack grinned, his manic energy undeterred. That was then, girly. This is now.

He lunged forward, throwing a handful of metallic jacks laced with electric sparks.

Both girls dodgedSolar Flame ducking low, while Star Sparkle raised a gravity shield.

Solar Flame countered with a sharp kick to his face, making Mad Jack stagger backward. Star Sparkle followed up with a magical blast, but Jack rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding it.

Scared, ladies?” he taunted, his grin widening.

Solar Flame smirked.Oh, I’m terrified. But I like to dive head-first into my fears. So… do your worst, freak!

Mad Jack’s eyes gleamed with twisted delight.

Oh… not that I needed your permission, but that’s precisely what I had in mind.

Star Sparkle narrowed her eyes. What do you mean?

Jack twirled a card between his fingers, his tone dropping lower.

Ever wondered why every villain’s been coming after you? Steelfist. Thornblade. Crabber. The Rogues. Us.

Solar Flame stiffened.

Star Sparkle’s jaw tightened.

There’s a reason, girls.” Jack leaned in, his voice dripping with malice. “You’ve been messing with forces you can’t possibly understand. You’re in the way of something… bigger.”

Star Sparkle had heard enough.

I’m done with your nonsense.

She fired a concentrated gravity blastslamming Mad Jack into the wall with a loud THUD!

He collapsed, unconscious.

Solar Flame approached her.You okay?

Star Sparkle’s breathing was heavy, but she nodded.Yeah… but he knows something. Something big.

Before they could discuss further, the rest of the Guardians arrived, Twilight Velvet unconscious but safe in Butterfly’s arms.

Star Sparkle rushed over.Mom! Is she okay?

Butterfly nodded.Just sedatives. She’ll be fine.

Relief washed over Twilight.

The CCPD swarmed the Science Center, placing Mad Jack, Chrysalis, Dead-Eye, and Cozy Glow into custody.

Shining Armor gave his sister a reassuring nod before the doors of the police truck slammed shut.

But as the villains were driven away, their eyes burned with hatred—and Mad Jack’s smile never fully faded.

The Guardians gathered around the table, nursing their wounds and processing everything.

Rainbow Dash leaned forward.Dead-Eye spilled something. Some guy named… Darklight. He’s the one who put the bounty on us.

Rarity furrowed her brows.Darklight? Who is that?

Applejack shook her head.Dunno. Never heard that name before.

Sunset tapped her chin in thought before grabbing her journal.

I’m asking Princess Twilight. If this is Equestrian magic… she might know something.”

A few minutes later, her journal glowed with a response.

Sunset read aloud:

We fought a Darklight before. He was a necromancer troll, steeped in dark magic. We defeated him, but…
If there’s a human version of him in your world, Sunset…
Be careful. He’ll be just as dangerous.

The room fell into a heavy silence.

A necromancer?Fluttershy whispered.

Pinkie shivered.Spooky…

Star Sparkle clenched her fists.Whatever he is, he’s been coming after us. He threatened my family. He’s made this personal.

Sunset’s eyes hardened.

Then we find him. We stop him. Together.

The Guardians nodded in agreement.

Because now… it wasn’t just about defending the city.

It was war.
