Heroes Of Canterlot City
Rouge Rising
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe Rainbooms’ Clubhouse was buzzing with activity as Rainbow Dash zipped from one game to another, testing the limits of her super-speed. Her hands were a blur as she bounced a ping pong ball past Pinkie Pie, scoring another point.
“Not again!” Pinkie pouted, tossing her paddle aside.
Rainbow grinned before zooming over to a chessboard, where she quickly moved her rook to capture Twilight’s bishop.
“Check,” she announced with a cocky smirk, vanishing before Twilight could respond.
Her next stop was at the TV, where Sunset Shimmer was challenging her in Smash Bros. Ultimate. Rainbow’s fingers danced across the controller at lightning speed, landing a flurry of blows before dashing over to Rarity, who was carefully trying to extract a plastic bone from the Operation game.
“Oh, of all the games, I had to play the one that is completely barbaric!” Rarity huffed, accidentally triggering the buzzer and making the patient’s nose light up red.
“Not the point,” Twilight explained, adjusting her glasses as she observed Rainbow’s performance. “We are attempting to test her ability to handle multiple tasks at super speed, utilizing cognitive reasoning, hand-eye coordination, and precision.”
Twilight sighed, glancing at the board game. “That, and Operation was the only board game I could find.”
Meanwhile, on the streets of Canterlot City...
An armored truck rumbled down a quiet street, its heavy cargo unknown to all but those inside. Watching from a distance, a man on a motorcycle checked his watch, noting the 182 seconds he had allotted for this heist.
“One hundred and eighty-two seconds, gentlemen,” he said into his earpiece, his voice smooth and calculated.
The biker accelerated, flanking the armored truck just as a second biker appeared on the opposite side.
“Hey,” one of the truck drivers muttered. “I think we got something.”
Before they could react, a pick-up truck reversed out of an alley, positioning itself directly behind them. The bikers hooked steel cables from the pick-up to the armored truck’s rear bumper.
With a screech of brakes, the pick-up came to a halt, forcing the armored truck to a stop.
“Alright, boys,” the leader said, dismounting his bike and walking over to the pick-up. “Let’s take it through the paces.”
He gestured to his crew. “Brighton, disable the cameras. Clubber, make sure the guards don’t try anything stupid. And Scorcher—”
“Yeah, yeah, lookout duty,” Scorcher grumbled, toying with his flamethrower. “You promised I could torch something.”
“Patience,” the leader replied, retrieving a liquid nitrogen pack from the truck. “All in good time. We’ve got one hundred and fifty-eight seconds left.”
Clubber walked up to the front of the armored truck, yanking the door open and delivering a swift punch to the driver, knocking him unconscious.
“This is a 211!” the second driver shouted into his radio. “211! We are—”
Before he could finish, Clubber flicked his wrist, sending a boomerang whirling through the air. It struck the driver’s face, shattered the window, and returned to Clubber’s grasp.
“That might be a problem,” Clubber reported, looking back at the leader.
“Relax,” the leader said calmly, “we still have one hundred and forty-nine seconds.”
He began spraying the truck’s rear doors with liquid nitrogen, the metal creaking as it rapidly froze over.
Back at the Clubhouse...
A blinking red light caught the girls’ attention. Sunset walked over to the console, squinting at the screen. “What’s a 211?” she asked aloud.
Twilight’s eyes widened. “It’s police code for an armed robbery!”
In an instant, Rainbow Dash was suited up as Blue Thunder, zipping out of the clubhouse in a blur of blue light.
Rarity huffed, adjusting her now-mussed hair. “Does she always have to make such a dramatic exit?”
At the crime scene...
The leader had just shattered the frozen truck door with a powerful kick, revealing stacks of cash inside. But before he could grab anything, a blue blur knocked him off his feet, sending him skidding across the pavement.
“Who—?!” he stammered, ripping off his mask in anger.
Blue Thunder stood confidently, arms crossed. “Sorry, boys, looks like your little shopping spree is over.”
Scorcher, eyes blazing, aimed his flamethrower at her. “Fry, you freak!”
But Blue Thunder was too fast, dodging the flames and decking him with a lightning-infused punch.
Clubber hurled another boomerang, but Blue Thunder caught it effortlessly.
“You’re joking, right?” she quipped, tossing it aside.
In a last-ditch effort, Scorcher aimed his flamethrower at the pick-up truck, igniting the gas tank. The truck exploded, the force of the blast knocking Blue Thunder backward.
By the time she recovered, the thieves had escaped on their motorcycles, vanishing into the night.
Blue Thunder picked herself up, groaning as she brushed soot off her suit. “It’s gonna be one of those days...”
She dashed back to the clubhouse, determined to regroup and catch these criminals before they could strike again.
Back at the clubhouse, Fluttershy sat on the couch, carefully tending to Rainbow Dash’s burns. The faint sting of rubbing alcohol made Rainbow wince.
“Ow! Easy, Flutters!” Rainbow groaned.
“It wouldn’t sting so much if you hadn’t rushed in headfirst,” Fluttershy scolded gently, her hands glowing softly as she used her healing ability to ease the pain.
Rainbow sighed. “Good thing I have you around, ‘cause I have no idea how I’d explain this to Cranky Doodle.”
Across the room, Sunset folded her arms. “Alright, spill. What happened?”
Rainbow leaned back, exhaling. “Four guys ambushed an armored car,” she explained. “One had a flamethrower, another guy was throwing boomerangs, and one had a liquid nitrogen pack. I’m not sure what the last guy was doing, but he was definitely their leader.”
“Did you get a good look at them?” Sunset asked.
“One of them took his mask off,” Rainbow said. “Didn’t get a great look, but I saw his face.”
Twilight, who had been listening intently, adjusted her glasses. “I’ll look into the police database. If these guys are known criminals, I should be able to pull up some records.”
Meanwhile, at an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of Canterlot City...
The four criminals gathered, frustration and tension thick in the air. The moment they entered, Scorcher spun on their leader, Snowflake, his temper flaring.
“Why didn’t you tell us a freakin’ Crystal Guardian might show up?!” he snapped.
Snowflake exhaled slowly, his icy blue eyes calculating. “I had hoped that a simple armored truck job wouldn’t attract their attention. A mistake. One I won’t repeat.”
Brighton smirked from his corner of the room. “Well, well, the great Snowflake actually admitting to a mistake. Never thought I’d see the day.”
Clubber cracked his knuckles. “I woulda had the lass! Next time, she won’t catch my boomerang—it’ll slice off ‘er fingers.”
Snowflake raised an eyebrow. “The girl broke the sound barrier like Sonic the Hedgehog. You honestly think a boomerang is gonna stop her?”
Clubber frowned. “Ah, ya might be right. Maybe it’s time I upgraded. Scorcher’s got a flamethrower now—big step up from gasoline an’ a box ah matches. Maybe I cin get somethin’ ta add a little kick to my babies.”
Brighton, who had remained quiet for a moment, suddenly spoke up. “Perhaps it is time to step up our game.”
Snowflake turned to him, intrigued. “You got something in mind?”
Brighton smiled slightly, a devious glint in his eyes. “As a matter of fact... I do.”
At Twilight’s house...
Seated at her desk, Twilight Sparkle scanned through a digital copy of Canterlot’s Most Wanted on her computer. She narrowed her search, cross-referencing Rainbow’s description with known criminals.
Finally, she found a match.
Snowflake.
Her eyes widened as she read through his file.
He was a highly skilled thief and tactician, specializing in heists involving experimental technology. But what really made Twilight’s stomach turn was a detail buried in his history.
Her brother, Shining Armor, had crossed paths with Snowflake and his crew years ago.
It had ended badly.
The police officers who engaged them were left with severe frostbite, burns, and deep cuts from boomerangs.
Twilight swallowed hard. These weren’t just petty criminals. They were dangerous.
She immediately picked up her phone, dialing Sunset.
“We have a serious problem,” she said the moment Sunset picked up. “These guys aren’t just a gang. They’re professionals. And if Brighton’s involved… they’re about to get a lot more dangerous.”
At the abandoned warehouse, Brighton led his crew into a section sealed off by opaque plastic sheeting. A crudely made “Stay Out” sign was duct-taped to the entrance, but Scorcher ripped it off with a sneer.
“I don’t do rules,” he muttered as they stepped inside.
Brighton smirked. “Good thing I don’t either.”
Inside, a makeshift armory had been assembled, filled with experimental weapons and tech scavenged from black market deals and stolen shipments.
“In my infinite free time,” Brighton began, “I’ve done a bit of... collecting. Nothing major. Just a few trinkets to make our jobs a bit more… exciting.”
Clubber passed a table covered in small circular devices and picked one up, rolling it between his fingers.
“What are these little buggers?” he asked.
“Micro-explosives,” Brighton answered smoothly. “About the size of a penny, but each has the blast radius of ten packs of C-4.”
Clubber’s eyes widened with mischievous delight. “Blimey. I could do some damage with these.”
Brighton raised an eyebrow. “Indeed you could. Just try not to blow your own hand off.”
Clubber ignored him, already affixing a few of the tiny bombs to his boomerangs, his grin growing wider by the second.
Meanwhile, Scorcher spotted a strange-looking gun with a red gas tank attached to it. He picked it up, testing its weight in his hands.
“What’s this thing do?” he asked.
Brighton smirked. “Thought you might like that one. It fires highly concentrated, combustible liquid fuel that ignites on contact with air.”
Scorcher’s grin turned feral. “So basically… instant flames.”
“Precisely.”
Eager to test it, Scorcher aimed the gun at a stack of old boxes and fired. A torrent of red-hot flames erupted from the nozzle, engulfing the boxes instantly. He laughed maniacally, watching them burn.
Then, Brighton grabbed another gun off the table—this one with a sleek, icy-blue design.
“You might want to cover your eyes,” he advised.
The others did as told. Brighton aimed the gun at the blazing boxes and fired—
A white-hot blast shot forward, instantly freezing the fire solid.
When the smoke cleared, the flames were no longer burning—they were encased in ice.
Clubber stared, his mouth hanging open. “Okay, mate... what the hell?!”
Brighton examined the weapon with intrigue. “I’ll admit, this one is something of a mystery. It emits a flame, but instead of burning, it creates a cryo-blast—like something straight out of Captain Cold’s playbook.”
Snowflake, fascinated, stepped forward and snatched the gun. Brighton handed him a pair of specialized goggles.
“These should help,” Brighton said.
Snowflake placed them over his eyes, admiring the sleek design of his new weapon.
“This... this could be fun,” he mused. “But that covers us. What about you?”
Brighton smirked. “Glad you asked.”
He walked over to a metallic crate and unlatched it, revealing something hidden inside.
The others leaned forward as Brighton lifted out an orange-and-green jumpsuit—one that looked heavily modified with reflective panels and energy circuits.
“Something from my days at Sparkle Labs,” Brighton explained. “A little personal project I took with me.”
Snowflake narrowed his eyes. “And what exactly does it do?”
Brighton’s smirk widened. “It’s a Quantum Reflector Suit. It allows me to manipulate quantum fields in reflective images, meaning...”
Clubber raised an eyebrow. “You can... walk through mirrors or somethin’?”
Brighton chuckled. “Something like that. Perhaps a demonstration is in order.”
He zipped up the suit, then turned to face a broken mirror hanging on the far wall.
Without hesitation, he sprinted toward it—
—And vanished straight into the reflection.
“Crikey!” Clubber jumped back.
Snowflake’s eyes widened slightly, impressed despite himself.
Moments later, Brighton re-emerged from another mirror across the room, standing before them as if nothing had happened.
“And that,” he said, brushing off his suit, “is just a small sample of what this bad boy can do.”
Snowflake smirked. “I think we can put this to good use.”
The four criminals stood amidst their new arsenal, ready to bring chaos to Canterlot City.
At the clubhouse, the Rainbooms gathered around Twilight’s computer as she finished her report on the four criminals.
“Alright, here’s what I found,” Twilight began. “Snowflake—highly skilled criminal, specializes in tactical heists and experimental tech theft.”
“Figures,” Applejack muttered.
“Scorcher—pretty much your run-of-the-mill pyromaniac. Loves fire, loves burning things, and that’s about it.”
“Obvious,” Rainbow Dash snorted.
“Clubber—former military, now a mercenary for hire. Uses boomerangs with lethal precision, and given his combat history, he’s extremely dangerous.”
“Great,” Rarity sighed. “So a criminal, an arsonist, and a war vet with a penchant for throwing sharp objects.”
Twilight nodded grimly. “That’s not all. Fluttershy and I looked into Brighton… and we found nothing.”
“Nothing?” Sunset frowned. “Like, no records at all?”
Twilight shook her head. “It’s like he doesn’t exist. No criminal history, no birth records, not even a driver’s license.”
Fluttershy bit her lip. “That’s... unsettling.”
Before they could dwell on it further, a loud alarm blared, flashing red across the screen.
“They’re hitting the Canterlot City Museum!” Twilight exclaimed.
The girls didn’t hesitate. In a burst of magic, they transformed into their alter-egos—The Crystal Guardians.
At the Canterlot City Museum…
The four criminals gathered in front of the diamond display, eyeing their prize with greed and admiration.
“It’s beautiful,” Brighton mused, his fingers twitching with anticipation.
“And it’s ours,” Snowflake declared.
With a smirk, Snowflake raised his cold gun and fired at the glass case. The extreme frost caused the protective barrier to shatter instantly, leaving the diamond untouched.
He reached out and grabbed the jewel, smiling victoriously—
BOOM!
The wall exploded inward, sending debris flying as the Crystal Guardians arrived in force.
“Alright, boys—hands in the air! Now!” Apple Smasher ordered, stepping forward with her rock-armored fists clenched.
Snowflake smirked. “Speak of the devil.”
Before anyone could react, he fired his cold gun at the group. The girls dodged, narrowly avoiding the freezing blast.
Clubber took advantage of the distraction, hurling an explosive boomerang. It sailed past the heroes, embedding itself into the opposite wall before detonating with a deafening explosion.
Blue Thunder took off at super speed, hoping to flank them—
ZAP!
A cold shot from Snowflake’s gun clipped her in the side, sending her spiraling to the ground. She hit hard, gripping her lower back in pain.
“Sweet Equestria, that’s cold!” Blue Thunder groaned, shivering from the frostbite.
Before the others could react, Brighton suddenly appeared in front of Solar Flame and Star Sparkle, his blasters already firing.
The two girls dodged, but Brighton appeared again behind them, opening fire once more.
Star Sparkle barely managed to block the attack with her magic shield.
“How are you doing that?!” Star Sparkle demanded.
Brighton smirked. “Hard light holograms. Adapted from my reflective technology. I believe your father helped me perfect it… Twilight.”
Twilight’s eyes widened in shock. “What?!”
Before she could process his words, Scorcher unleashed a torrent of fire, forcing the girls into a corner.
“Little crispy, girls?” Scorcher taunted.
Before he could strike again—
SIRENS blared outside.
The Canterlot PD arrived, led by none other than Shining Armor.
Snowflake’s smirk faltered slightly. “Tch.”
Shining Armor drew his gun, stepping forward. “Snowflake, you’re under arrest!”
Clubber pulled out another explosive boomerang.
“Catch this!” he sneered, throwing it straight at the police force.
Blue Thunder’s eyes widened as she spotted the blinking red light.
She instantly dashed forward, catching the projectile and hurling it toward the ceiling just as it EXPLODED—
The sheer force knocked everyone back, including the Crystal Guardians and the police.
Through the smoke and chaos, Crystal Freeze yelled out: “We need to fall back!”
Sugar Girl threw down a glitter bomb, momentarily blinding everyone in the room.
Taking advantage of the distraction, Snowflake and his crew made their escape.
Scorcher grinned manically. “That was awesome!”
“For once, I agree with ya, mate,” Clubber said, laughing. “I could get used to this!”
Snowflake smirked, flipping the diamond between his fingers. “Agreed.”
Brighton adjusted his reflective goggles, a wicked glint in his eye. “And this? This was just the beginning.”
The Crystal Guardians sat in various states of exhaustion and injury. Rainbow Dash lay on the couch with heating packs on her back, still wincing from the effects of Snowflake’s cold gun. The others had bandages on various bruises and burns from their failed encounter at the museum.
“That fight would’ve been pretty cool,” Rainbow muttered, shifting uncomfortably, “if it wasn’t because of, you know… terrible circumstances.”
Applejack frowned, arms crossed. “You doin’ alright, sugarcube?”
“I will be,” Rainbow said with a groan. “But it feels like I got frostbite—way worse than before.”
Rarity inspected Rainbow’s skin carefully, a look of concern crossing her face. “It’s presenting itself as third-degree frostbite. It’s slowing your healing.”
Rainbow’s eyes widened. “Slowing?”
“To be honest, if your cells weren’t regenerating at the rate they are, you’d be a lot worse off.”
The room fell into a moment of silence before Applejack broke it. “How did those guys get their hands on weapons like that?” She then turned to Twilight. “And what’s with that guy with the hard-light clones?”
Twilight frowned, still deep in thought. “Beats me… but he knew my name. And he mentioned my dad. How does that fit into this?”
A sudden realization dawned on her. Eyes widening, she rushed to her laptop, quickly typing into the Sparkle Labs Employee Records.
The others gathered around as a file popped up.
The screen displayed an old employee record:
Name: Brighton Sterling
Occupation: Quantum Physicist
Status: TERMINATED
“Brighton was a brilliant quantum physicist,” Twilight read aloud. “His ideas were revolutionary, but… my dad found out that he was planning to weaponize his projects and sell them to the military.”
Sunset clenched her fists. “And that’s why he got fired.”
Twilight scrolled further down the record. Her face paled as she read the next part.
“It says here that Brighton broke into the old Sparkle Labs facility and stole several things from their restricted vault.”
Pinkie Pie gasped dramatically. “Including miniaturized explosives and guns that spew fire and ice!”
“Exactly,” Rarity nodded. “Which means those weapons must be recovered post-haste!”
Sunset leaned forward. “Good idea. The guns should have some sort of tracking system left over from their lab days. If we can find the right signal…”
Twilight smirked. “Leave that to me.”
At the Warehouse...
The four criminals sat around a table, admiring their latest prize—the massive stolen diamond from the museum.
Clubber whistled. “Look at the size of that beauty.” He turned to Brighton. “How much do ya think this thing is worth?”
Brighton, ever the strategist, tapped his chin. “Couple hundred million by my guess.”
Clubber rolled his eyes. “Forget about just the diamond. We should be thinking bigger!”
Snowflake raised an eyebrow. “How much bigger?”
“With these babies?” Clubber gestured at the advanced weapons they had stolen. “There’s no safe we can’t crack, no museum we can’t loot. This city is ours for the taking!”
Snowflake twirled his cold gun in his hands. “Getting ahead of ourselves, aren’t we?” He smirked. “I agree that with weapons like these, no one can stop us.” His smirk darkened. “Except them.”
Scorcher leaned forward, cracking his knuckles. “So… we snuff ‘em out before they snuff us.”
“Exactly,” Snowflake said coldly. “Once the Crystal Guardians are out of the picture, this city will be our personal playground. We can do—and take—whatever we want.”
The villains exchanged grins, a twisted silence settling in the room as their plan took shape.
At the clubhouse, Pinkie Pie hummed to herself as she pinned up photos of Snowflake, Scorcher, Clubber, and Brighton onto a bulletin board. She stood back, hands on her hips, deep in thought.
Rarity and Applejack entered the room, noticing Pinkie’s setup.
“Uh, Pinkie dear, what exactly are you doing?” Rarity asked, tilting her head.
Pinkie grinned. “I’m coming up with villain names for these guys! You know, something catchy.”
Applejack smirked. “And what’d ya come up with?”
“For Snowflake, I’m calling him Shiver!” Pinkie declared.
“Fitting,” Rarity mused.
“For Scorcher, I went with Inferno! Because, well, fire!”
Applejack raised an eyebrow at Rarity. “Are we actually gonna call ‘em that?”
Rarity sighed. “Let Pinkie have her fun.”
Pinkie tapped her chin. “Still working on Clubber, though. Needs to sound cool.”
After a moment, her eyes lit up. “Ooh! Ranger!”
Applejack chuckled. “Okay, that one ain’t half bad.”
Meanwhile, in the tech room…
Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy checked in on Sunset and Twilight, who were analyzing data on the stolen heat and cold guns.
Twilight adjusted her glasses. “These weapons aren’t just high-tech. The heat gun reaches Planck temperature—the absolute hottest anything can theoretically get. And the cold gun can hit absolute zero.”
Rainbow frowned. “Translation?”
Sunset explained, “If we can cross their beams, they should cancel each other out.”
Pinkie, still brainstorming, suddenly perked up. “Okay, so Shiver, Inferno, and Ranger—but I still need one for Brighton!”
Before anyone could respond, a smooth voice echoed from the entrance.
“If I may interject,” Brighton called out, stepping into the clubhouse. “I’ve personally taken to the name… Mirage.”
The room went dead silent.
Behind him, the rest of the villains—**Shiver, Inferno, and Ranger—**stepped inside, their weapons ready.
Shiver’s icy blue eyes locked onto Twilight. “Where’s Night Light?”
Twilight blinked in confusion. “What? I—I don’t know anything about that!”
Mirage sighed dramatically. “A shame. But I’ll take a consolation prize.”
Before anyone could react, he lunged forward and grabbed Fluttershy!
“Fluttershy!” Sunset shouted, stepping forward, but—
Inferno aimed his gun at them, flames flickering at the nozzle.
“I dare ya,” he sneered.
With a smirk, Mirage stepped backward—right into a mirror.
He and Fluttershy vanished.
The villains followed through the mirror portal, leaving the Crystal Guardians stunned.
Silence filled the room.
Then Pinkie crossed her arms. “Really, Mirage?” she muttered.
The others turned to her in disbelief.
Pinkie shrugged. “What? He said it, not me.”
Shortly after, Twilight worked tirelessly to track Fluttershy’s location, the TV screen suddenly flickered to life. The image sharpened to reveal Shiver, Mirage, Inferno, and Ranger—with a tied-up Fluttershy seated in front of them.
Shiver stepped forward, grinning coldly.
"Greetings, citizens of Canterlot City," he said smoothly. "The name’s Snowflake, but you can call me Shiver."
His voice dripped with casual malice as he continued.
"I’m gonna make this very simple for everyone. Blue Thunder. Apple Smasher. Sundown. Parker and Main Street. We settle this. Just you two.
Anyone else shows up?” He smirked. “Well… I think you get the picture."
The screen cut to static.
Rainbow clenched her fists, fuming. “Oh, that jerk!”
Twilight’s fingers flew across the keyboard. “I’m working on tracking the video’s origin,” she said.
Sunset folded her arms. “How do you want to play this?”
Rainbow’s eyes narrowed. “Shiver made it clear—he wants us to show. Makes it easier to take them down.”
Applejack exhaled. “I feel ya, sugarcube, but… what if it’s a trap?”
Rainbow blinked at her. “It is a trap.”
Applejack sighed. “Just makin’ sure we’re all on the same page.”
Sunset stepped up. “You two—gear up and be ready. The rest of us will track Fluttershy and bring her back.”
Rainbow cracked her knuckles. “Time to end this.”
At the Warehouse…
Inside a dimly lit storage room, Inferno finished tying Fluttershy’s restraints, pulling the last knot tight.
Across the room, Shiver turned to Mirage. “Is everything ready?”
Mirage adjusted his gloves. “Just finished rigging the entrance.” He smirked. “Good thing we still had that stash of explosives lying around.”
Fluttershy’s eyes widened as she struggled against her bindings.
Before she could cry out, Inferno shoved a rag into her mouth, gagging her.
"Just sit tight," Shiver said smoothly, kneeling down to meet her gaze. His icy blue eyes gleamed with amusement. “And pray the next people who come through that door… are us.”
Fluttershy’s muffled protests were ignored as the villains laughed, stepping out to prepare their ambush.
At Parker and Main, police barricades were set up to keep civilians away from what was about to be a massive showdown. Officers stood by, tensely watching as the city braced for impact.
Then—
Blue Thunder and Apple Smasher arrived, vaulting over the barriers with determination set in their eyes.
On the other side, Shiver, Mirage, Inferno, and Ranger stood waiting, their weapons gleaming under the setting sun.
“Glad you ladies could make it,” Shiver said smugly. But when neither of them responded, his grin widened. “What’s wrong? Cat got your tongues?”
Still, the girls didn’t speak. Instead, they dropped into fighting stances, eyes locked onto their targets.
Shiver sighed dramatically. “Okay, so much for small talk. Gents!”
At his command, the villains raised their weapons—
Blue Thunder moved first.
WHOOSH!
In a blur, she darted past them, dodging gunfire and explosions.
Mirage smirked, conjuring several holographic clones, each one raising their weapons and firing at her from different angles.
Apple Smasher wasn’t having it.
She slammed her fists into the ground, launching small pebbles of rock through one of the Mirage duplicates—
CRASH!
The fake shattered like glass.
“That’s new,” Apple Smasher muttered—just as Inferno’s flamethrower nearly engulfed her. She barely rolled out of the way as heat scorched the pavement where she had just been standing.
“Ranger! Cover me!” Shiver barked.
Ranger nodded, pulling five explosive boomerangs from his belt and hurling them at once.
Blue Thunder saw them coming.
She sprinted up the side of a building, barely dodging the spinning projectiles. At the last second, she leapt off the wall and landed on top of a parked car, using the momentum to springboard off it—
BOOM!
The boomerangs connected, setting off a massive explosion that tore the car apart.
Shiver, meanwhile, aimed his cold gun at a fire hydrant and fired. The rushing water froze instantly, creating a slick sheet of ice across the street.
He smirked. “Run on this.”
Blue Thunder didn’t have a choice.
The second her foot hit the ice, she lost control. Her momentum carried her forward, and she slid uncontrollably straight into the icy hydrant, crashing hard onto the pavement.
“Blue! You okay?!” Apple Smasher called as she ran toward her.
Blue Thunder groaned, pushing herself up. “Yeah, I’m good. But we need to get Shiver and Inferno to fire at each other.”
Apple Smasher nodded. “Right. If their beams cross, they cancel each other out.”
“But first,” Blue Thunder huffed, shaking off the impact, “we gotta take care of the other two.”
Apple Smasher slammed her hands onto the pavement, raising a rock dome around them—
BOOM! BOOM!
Outside, Ranger’s explosives and Mirage’s blasters pounded against the barrier.
Inside the dome, Blue Thunder took a deep breath.
“Okay,” she muttered, cracking her knuckles. “Let’s end this.”
On the Other Side of the City…
Twilight and Sunset arrived at an old warehouse, their scanners pinpointing Fluttershy’s exact location inside.
Before they could move in, an armored figure suddenly landed in front of them, his metallic suit gleaming under the streetlights.
Twilight instinctively activated her magic shield, while Sunset’s hands glowed with fiery energy as they prepared for a fight.
The figure raised a hand. “Back off.”
Sunset narrowed her eyes. “Our friend is in there, and we’re getting her back.”
Twilight quickly scanned the warehouse with her Sparkle Scanner, eyes widening as the readings came through.
“The entire building is rigged with explosives!” she gasped.
The armored figure nodded. He raised his gauntlet, sending out a controlled burst of energy, drawing out the excess heat from the explosives, making it safe for them to enter.
Before they could ask who he was, the figure rocketed away, disappearing into the night.
Twilight and Sunset exchanged glances.
“We’ll deal with that later,” Sunset said. “Let’s get Fluttershy.”
At Parker and Main…
Blue Thunder and Apple Smasher were still under heavy fire, their rock dome now completely frozen by Shiver’s gun.
Shiver smirked, aiming the gun directly at them. “I’d say ‘better luck next time,’ but… well, you know.”
The villains surrounded the two heroes, Mirage raising his blaster for the final shot.
BANG!
A single gunshot rang out—shattering Mirage’s blaster!
The villains turned sharply, eyes landing on Shining Armor, who stood with his smoking gun aimed right at them.
“Not today.”
Blue Thunder seized the opportunity.
She charged through the group at lightning speed, knocking all four villains to the ground.
Ranger recovered quickly and hurled a boomerang at Blue Thunder—
But she had grabbed one of his boomerangs too.
She threw hers at the same time, colliding mid-air with Ranger’s, creating a double explosion that sent him flying back.
Meanwhile, Apple Smasher found herself cornered by Shiver and Inferno, the two standing on opposite sides of the street, weapons aimed at her.
“Looks like your luck’s run out,” Shiver taunted.
Apple Smasher glanced between them, realizing they were directly across from each other.
She smirked. “Let’s test that luck.”
She stepped forward, forcing them to fire their weapons simultaneously.
The blazing heat from Inferno’s gun and the freezing cold from Shiver’s hit her at the same time, sending waves of pain through her body.
Still, she pressed forward.
Shiver and Inferno grinned, pouring on more power.
Just when it seemed like she couldn’t take anymore—
She ducked!
The streams of heat and ice collided directly, creating a massive shockwave that blasted both villains off their feet.
They crashed to the ground, groaning in pain.
Shiver reached for his cold gun, but—
Shining Armor stepped in, kicking it away before aiming his pistol at Shiver’s face.
“Not this time, Snowflake.”
The Canterlot PD moved in, placing handcuffs on the four criminals.
Blue Thunder and Apple Smasher exchanged victorious nods then left.
At the Clubhouse…
When Rainbow Dash and Applejack entered, they immediately spotted Fluttershy—completely unharmed.
Without hesitation, Rainbow rushed forward and hugged her tightly.
“You okay?” Rainbow asked softly.
Fluttershy smiled, hugging back. “I am now.”
Nearby, Pinkie Pie twirled in her chair. “Sooo… what about Shiver and his goons?”
Rainbow smirked. “They’re going away for a long time.”
Applejack nodded. “Won’t be causin’ trouble anytime soon.”
Sunset, however, was still deep in thought.
“That armored guy…” she muttered. “Who was he?”
The room fell silent.
Whoever he was, he knew about the bombs.
And something told them this wasn’t the last time they’d see him.
The armored figure stood on the outskirts of the city, hidden beneath the shadows of an abandoned lookout point. His helmet lay on the table, revealing a strong but mysterious face illuminated by the glow of multiple holographic screens.
Each screen displayed files, footage, and reports—all centered around one particular subject:
The Crystal Guardians.
His eyes scanned through battle recordings, police reports, and news clippings of their recent encounters. Sunset Shimmer. Twilight Sparkle. Rainbow Dash. Applejack. Each name flashed across the screens.
He exhaled slowly.
“They’re stronger than I expected…” he muttered, tapping a control panel as the screens flickered to new data.
His gaze hardened.
“But strength isn’t always enough.”
The four Rogues sat handcuffed inside the heavily armored prison truck, its engine humming as it carried them toward Canterlot Maximum Security Prison.
Inferno, however, was not taking it well.
He glared at Shiver, his jaw clenched in frustration. “I should’ve burned the entire city block down!” he snapped. “But nooo, I listened to you.”
His anger flared as he leaned forward.
“We had the diamond. We had the weapons. We could’ve had everything. But you had to pull your stupid plan.” His eyes narrowed. “How’s that working out for us now, genius?”
Shiver leaned back calmly, unaffected by Inferno’s outburst.
“It’s hit a snag,” he admitted. “We’ll just have to adapt is all.”
Ranger scoffed. “Adapt?! How exactly are we gonna adapt when we’re in the slammer?” He gestured to his bright orange jumpsuit. “I don’t know about you, but orange ain’t my color.”
Just then—
The truck came to a sudden stop.
The Rogues tensed, exchanging confused glances.
“What the—?” Mirage started.
Before he could finish, the rear doors of the truck began to shift.
Before their very eyes, the metal doors turned to solid gold.
A loud crack echoed as a massive hammer smashed through the golden doors, sending shattered pieces crumbling to the ground.
As the dust settled, a tall brunette woman in a black leather suit stood at the opening, smirking. She twirled the hammer in her hands, revealing golden handprints burned into the handle from her touch.
“I’m always cleaning up after you, aren’t I, bro?” she teased.
Shiver grinned. “Good to see you too, sis.”
The others exchanged shocked glances.
“Sis?” Inferno blinked.
Shiver turned to them with a smirk. “Boys, I’d like you to meet our newest member…” He gestured toward her. “Crystal. My sister.”
She crossed her arms, golden energy flickering across her fingertips.
“Nice to meet you, boys.”
Without wasting another second, the five villains mounted waiting motorcycles, engines roaring to life.
As the police sirens blared in the distance, they disappeared into the night—ready for revenge.
