The Fashion Tour
Rarity pranced back and forth along the platform of the Ponyville train station, her horn sparking with a mixture of excitement and anxious energy. Today was the day. The day she would finally meet her two unicorn fashionista pen pals, Mitzy Glitter and Diamond Crust. They were arriving from Manehattan, and Rarity had promised to greet them and show them to Carousel Boutique, where they would be staying for a few days.
"Oh, I do hope they like it here," she mumbled to herself, smoothing down her already perfectly styled mane. "It's not quite Manehattan, but Ponyville has its own charm, don't you think?"
She glanced over at Applejack and Rainbow Dash, who were leaning against a nearby post, looking varying degrees of bored. Rarity had enlisted their help to carry luggage and act as tour guides for her guests. She had a fashion show to prepare for, and she needed some reliable ponies to keep Mitzy and Diamond entertained.
"You alright there, Rarity?" Applejack asked, noticing Rarity's fretting. "You look like you're 'bout to jump outta your own skin."
"I'm fine, darling," Rarity said, forcing a smile. "Just a bit excited, that's all. It's not often I get to host such esteemed guests."
"Esteemed?" Rainbow Dash scoffed. "They're just a couple of ponies you met through letters, Rarity. It's not like they're royalty or somethin'."
"They are very well-regarded in the Manehattan fashion scene, Rainbow Dash," Rarity said, her tone slightly defensive. "Mitzy Glitter is known for her adorable, girly designs, and Diamond Crust is practically synonymous with luxury and expensive taste."
"Sounds like a real hoot," Rainbow Dash muttered, rolling her eyes.
"Well, I think it's nice," Applejack said, giving Rarity a reassuring pat on the back. "You've been talkin' 'bout these two for months. It'll be good for you to finally meet 'em in person."
"You're right, of course," Rarity said, taking a deep breath. "It's just… first impressions are so important. And with the fashion show later today—"
Her words were cut short by the sound of an approaching train. A plume of steam billowed into the air as the engine chugged into the station, its brakes screeching as it came to a halt.
"They're here!" Rarity exclaimed, her eyes wide with anticipation.
The train doors hissed open, and a flurry of ponies began to disembark. Rarity scanned the crowd, her heart pounding in her chest. Then, she saw them.
Two unicorns stepped off the train, their appearances matching the descriptions from their letters perfectly. One was a vision of pink and pastels, with a double-scoop of cotton candy-colored hair styled in twin pigtails, complete with a headband adorned with a single, perfect silk flower. A short, elegant scarf was draped around her neck, and a heart was delicately painted on her cheek. Her eyes sparkled with a peach-colored eyeshadow, and fluttery mascara framed her bright, cheerful eyes. Her cutie mark was a trio of adorable bows. This was Mitzy Glitter.
Beside her stood a unicorn who exuded an air of sophistication. Her hair, styled in a sleek, high-fashion manner reminiscent of the famous Photo Finish, framed her face with an air of mystery. Sunglasses perched atop her head, and a diamond necklace glittered at her throat. A luxurious brown fur coat draped over her shoulders, and her eyes were accentuated with navy blue eyeshadow and a sharp, winged eyeliner. Her cutie mark was a stack of coins, shining brightly. This was Diamond Crust.
"Mitzy! Diamond!" Rarity called out, rushing forward to greet them. "It's so wonderful to finally meet you!"
"Rarity, OMG, you look, like, so pretty!" Mitzy exclaimed, her voice a bubbly, high-pitched squeal. She bounced on her hooves, her pigtails swaying with the motion. "I just love your mane! The way it, like, curls is totally adorbs!"
"Indeed," Diamond added, her tone more measured and refined. "Your boutique is quite renowned, even in Manehattan. I am eager to see your latest collection."
"Oh, thank you, darlings!" Rarity said, beaming. "I'm so glad you like it. And you both look absolutely stunning. Mitzy, that scarf is to die for, and Diamond, that fur coat is simply exquisite."
"It's faux, of course," Diamond said, giving her coat a slight adjustment. "But only the finest faux fur for Diamond Crust."
"And this, like, totally cute scarf? It's made with real silk!" Mitzy added. "It feels so soft!"
"Well, you both look wonderful," Rarity said. "Now, let me introduce you to my friends. This is Applejack, and this is Rainbow Dash."
Applejack tipped her hat. "Howdy, y'all. Welcome to Ponyville."
Rainbow Dash gave a half-hearted wave. "Sup."
"It's, like, so nice to meet you!" Mitzy said, practically vibrating with excitement. "Rarity has told us, like, so much about you two!"
"We are pleased to make your acquaintance," Diamond said, giving a slight nod of her head.
"Well, why don't we get your luggage and head to the boutique?" Rarity suggested. "I'm sure you're both eager to settle in."
"Yes, please," Diamond said. "Traveling can be so dreadfully tiring."
"But, like, so worth it!" Mitzy added. "I can't wait to see all the, like, totally cute sights of Ponyville!"
Applejack and Rainbow Dash exchanged a look. This was going to be interesting.
They made their way to the baggage car, where Mitzy and Diamond's luggage was being unloaded. As it turned out, the two unicorns had brought quite a lot of belongings. Several large trunks were stacked on the platform, along with numerous smaller bags and boxes.
"Goodness," Rarity said, surveying the pile. "You certainly didn't travel light."
"A fashionista must always be prepared, darling," Diamond said, her tone implying that this was the most obvious thing in the world.
"We brought, like, tons of outfits!" Mitzy added. "And makeup! And, like, accessories! Gotta have options, you know?"
Applejack whistled. "That's more stuff than I own in my entire life."
"Well, you two are fashion ponies," Rainbow Dash said. "It's kinda your thing, I guess."
"Exactly!" Mitzy said, clapping her hooves together. "Fashion is, like, totally our life!"
Rarity chuckled. "Well, let's get this all loaded up. Applejack, Rainbow Dash, if you wouldn't mind?"
Applejack and Rainbow Dash sighed in unison but set to work, heaving the heavy trunks onto a cart Rarity had brought along. It took several trips back and forth, but they finally managed to get everything loaded.
"Alright, y'all," Applejack said, wiping her brow. "Let's get this show on the road."
"Lead the way, darlings," Rarity said. "I'll see you back at the boutique. I have a few last-minute preparations to make for the show."
With that, Rarity trotted off, leaving Applejack and Rainbow Dash alone with the two fashionistas and their mountain of luggage.
"So," Rainbow Dash said, looking at Mitzy and Diamond. "You two wanna see the town, or what?"
"A tour would be delightful," Diamond said.
"Yay! A tour!" Mitzy exclaimed. "Can we see, like, all the cute places?"
"We'll do our best," Applejack said. "But first, let's get this stuff to Rarity's place."
They set off, Applejack and Rainbow Dash pulling the heavily laden cart while Mitzy and Diamond walked alongside, taking in the sights of Ponyville. The town was bustling with activity, ponies going about their daily routines. Market stalls were filled with colorful produce, and the air was filled with the aroma of freshly baked goods.
As they walked, Mitzy and Diamond couldn't help but comment on everything they saw.
"Oh, look at that, like, totally cute flower stand!" Mitzy exclaimed, pointing to a stall overflowing with vibrant blooms. "The colors are so pretty!"
"Hmm, a bit rustic for my taste," Diamond said, adjusting her sunglasses. "But I suppose it has a certain charm."
"And look at that little bakery!" Mitzy continued, her eyes sparkling. "The cupcakes look so yummy!"
"I prefer fine dining, myself," Diamond said. "But I suppose a sweet treat wouldn't hurt."
Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes, while Applejack just chuckled. It was clear that these two were going to be a handful.
They finally arrived at Carousel Boutique, its exterior as stylish and elegant as its owner. Mitzy and Diamond were suitably impressed.
"Wow, Rarity's place is, like, totally amazing!" Mitzy gushed.
"It is quite impressive," Diamond admitted. "Very chic."
"Well, come on in," Applejack said. "We gotta get this luggage upstairs."
They entered the boutique, the interior even more lavish than the exterior. Bolts of fabric in every color imaginable lined the walls, and mannequins were draped in half-finished garments.
"Ooh, so many pretty fabrics!" Mitzy exclaimed, her eyes darting around the room.
"The selection is quite extensive," Diamond said, examining a bolt of silk with a critical eye.
"Just try not to mess anythin' up," Applejack said. "Rarity's real particular 'bout her workspace."
"Don't worry, we'll be, like, super careful," Mitzy promised.
They made their way to the staircase, the task of getting the luggage upstairs proving to be even more challenging than loading it onto the cart. Applejack and Rainbow Dash huffed and puffed, their muscles straining as they hauled the heavy trunks up each step.
"Are you sure you two brought, like, everything you own?" Rainbow Dash grunted, struggling with a particularly large trunk.
"Of course!" Mitzy said. "A fashionista must always be prepared for any occasion!"
"Indeed," Diamond added. "One never knows when one might need a ballgown, or a riding outfit, or a swimsuit made of the finest sea silk."
"A swimsuit made of what now?" Rainbow Dash asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Sea silk, darling," Diamond repeated. "It's all the rage in Manehattan."
"Right," Rainbow Dash said, shaking her head.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they reached the top of the stairs. Applejack and Rainbow Dash collapsed onto the floor, panting and sweating.
"I think I just pulled somethin'," Rainbow Dash groaned.
"You and me both," Applejack agreed.
Mitzy and Diamond, meanwhile, seemed completely unfazed by the effort. They were busy admiring the guest rooms Rarity had prepared for them.
"Oh, this room is so cute!" Mitzy exclaimed, bouncing on the bed in her room. "I love the pink wallpaper!"
"The decor is acceptable," Diamond said, inspecting the furnishings in her room. "And the bed is surprisingly comfortable."
"Well, glad you like 'em," Applejack said, getting to her hooves. "Now, if you'll excuse us, we're gonna go collapse somewhere."
As Applejack and Rainbow Dash began to head back downstairs, they accidentally bumped into a stack of luggage, knocking over a few of the smaller bags. Clothes spilled out onto the floor, a colorful mess of fabric and accessories.
"Oops," Rainbow Dash said, wincing.
"Don't worry, we'll pick it up," Applejack said, bending down to gather the scattered items.
As they were picking up the clothes, Rainbow Dash couldn't help but notice how girly Mitzy's outfits were. She picked up a pink, long-sleeved crop top, its fabric soft and delicate.
"Seriously, who wears this stuff?" she muttered, shaking her head.
Applejack, meanwhile, was examining a red beret that had fallen out of Diamond's bag. She carefully turned it over in her hooves, her eyes widening as she noticed a small tag on the inside.
"Holy moly," she whispered, her voice filled with shock. "This thing is worth more than my entire farm!"
Just then, Mitzy and Diamond entered the hallway, their eyes widening as they saw Applejack and Rainbow Dash holding their clothes.
"Oh, are you, like, admiring our outfits?" Mitzy asked, her voice filled with excitement.
"They are quite exquisite, are they not?" Diamond added, a hint of pride in her tone.
"Uh, yeah, sure," Rainbow Dash said, quickly dropping the crop top. "They're… something."
"We think they're, like, totally amazing!" Mitzy exclaimed. "And you know what? We think they'd look even better on you two!"
Before Applejack or Rainbow Dash could react, Mitzy and Diamond's horns began to glow. A bright light surrounded the two, and they felt themselves being lifted into the air.
"Wh-what's going on?!" Rainbow Dash shouted, flailing her hooves.
"Hold still, darlings!" Diamond said, her voice taking on a commanding tone. "We're just going to give you a little makeover!"
"A makeover?!" Applejack exclaimed. "But we—"
Her words were cut short as Mitzy and Diamond used their magic to strip them of their usual attire. Applejack's hat and boots were sent flying, as was Rainbow Dash's casual outfit. Then, to their horror, they were forced into the clothes that had fallen from the luggage.
Rainbow Dash found herself being squeezed into the pink crop top, its fabric feeling strange and unfamiliar against her fur. A white skirt with a belt was then magically zipped around her waist, and pink high heels were forced onto her hooves.
Applejack, meanwhile, was thrust into a red, v-neck dress, its fabric clinging to her curves in a way she found most uncomfortable. A diamond-encrusted belt was tightened around her waist, and black high heels were magically attached to her hooves. A white fur blouse was draped over her shoulders, and the red beret was carefully placed on her head.
"No, no, no!" Rainbow Dash protested, trying to pull the crop top off. "Get this thing off me!"
"Now, now, don't be like that," Mitzy said, her voice taking on a soothing tone. "You look, like, totally amazing!"
"I look ridiculous!" Rainbow Dash retorted.
"You just need a few finishing touches, darling," Diamond said, ignoring Rainbow Dash's protests.
Mitzy and Diamond's horns glowed again, and a whirlwind of accessories and makeup products swirled around Applejack and Rainbow Dash. Heart-shaped earrings were clipped onto Rainbow Dash's ears, a white scarf was tied around her neck, and golden bracelets were fastened to her wrists. Her mane was magically styled into long, flowing waves, and pink eyeshadow was applied to her eyelids. Black mascara coated her lashes, making them appear longer and fuller. To complete the look, a pair of feminine sunglasses was placed on her head.
Applejack, meanwhile, was adorned with diamond earrings and a ruby necklace. Her mane was styled into elegant curls, and purple eyeshadow was applied to her eyelids. Black mascara and a sharp, winged eyeliner, similar to Diamond's, completed her eye makeup. Finally, a generous amount of fancy perfume was sprayed onto her fur.
When the whirlwind of magic finally subsided, Applejack and Rainbow Dash stood there, stunned and mortified, looking like completely different ponies.
"There!" Mitzy exclaimed, clapping her hooves together. "You both look, like, totally gorgeous!"
"Absolutely stunning," Diamond agreed, nodding her head in approval. "A complete transformation."
Applejack and Rainbow Dash stared at each other in horror, barely recognizing themselves, let alone each other.
"I… I can't believe this," Rainbow Dash muttered, looking down at her pink-clad hooves.
"We gotta get outta these outfits," Applejack said, her voice low and determined.
"Oh, but you look so good!" Mitzy said, tilting her head. "Don't you, like, totally love it?"
"No, we don't love it!" Rainbow Dash said, her voice rising in pitch. "We hate it! We look ridiculous!"
"Ridiculous? Darlings, you look like fashion icons!" Diamond said, sounding genuinely surprised by their reaction.
"Well, we don't wanna be fashion icons!" Applejack said, stomping her high-heeled hoof. "We wanna be ourselves!"
"But this is, like, so much better!" Mitzy said, her lower lip trembling slightly. "We just wanted to make you look pretty!"
"Pretty is subjective, Mitzy," Diamond said, placing a reassuring hoof on her friend's shoulder. "Not everypony appreciates high fashion."
"But… but…" Mitzy looked at Applejack and Rainbow Dash, her eyes wide and pleading. "Don't you, like, at least kindalike it?"
Applejack and Rainbow Dash looked at each other again. They were both still deeply uncomfortable and embarrassed by their new looks, but they could see how much this meant to Mitzy and Diamond. They had put a lot of effort into this makeover, and they genuinely believed they were doing something nice for them.
"Well…" Applejack began, hesitating.
"It's… different," Rainbow Dash said, trying to find something positive to say.
"Different is good!" Mitzy said, her eyes lighting up. "Different is, like, totally unique!"
"And unique is what fashion is all about," Diamond added.
Applejack and Rainbow Dash exchanged another glance. They still weren't happy about this whole situation, but they could see that arguing was getting them nowhere.
"Look," Applejack said, sighing. "We appreciate the effort, y'all. We really do. But this just ain't us. We're not fashion ponies, and we're not comfortable dressed like this."
"But you could be!" Mitzy said, her voice hopeful. "You could be, like, totally famous models!"
"We don't wanna be models," Rainbow Dash said firmly. "We have our own lives, our own interests. And they don't involve wearing high heels and makeup."
Mitzy's face fell, and Diamond placed a comforting hoof on her shoulder.
"It's alright, Mitzy," she said. "Not everypony is cut out for the world of high fashion."
"But… but they looked so good," Mitzy mumbled, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I know, darling," Diamond said. "They did. But we can't force our passions onto others."
Applejack and Rainbow Dash felt a pang of guilt at the disappointment in Mitzy's voice. They hadn't meant to hurt her feelings.
"Look, we're sorry," Applejack said. "We know you meant well. But we gotta be true to ourselves, you know?"
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash added. "We're just not cut out for this kinda stuff. But hey," she said, trying to lighten the mood. "Maybe you can find some other ponies who'd appreciate a makeover. There are plenty of fashion-crazy ponies in Ponyville."
Mitzy sniffled a bit, but then a small smile appeared on her face.
"You're right," she said. "There are, like, tons of ponies who would love a makeover! We just gotta find them!"
"That's the spirit," Diamond said, giving her friend an encouraging pat.
"Well, now that that's settled," Applejack said, "how 'bout we get that tour started? We're burnin' daylight here."
"Oh, right!" Mitzy said, her earlier enthusiasm returning. "The tour! Let's go!"
"Just give us a minute to get these… things off," Rainbow Dash said, gesturing to her outfit with a grimace.
"Oh, but you can't!" Mitzy exclaimed. "You gotta show off your new looks to, like, everyone in Ponyville!"
"She's right, darlings," Diamond added. "It would be a fashion crime to hide such beauty under a bushel."
Applejack and Rainbow Dash groaned. This was going to be a long day.
They left the boutique, Applejack and Rainbow Dash still dressed in their makeovers. As they walked through the streets of Ponyville, they couldn't help but notice the stares and whispers of the other ponies. Some looked at them with amusement, others with confusion, and a few with what might have been admiration.
"I feel like a walkin' sideshow," Applejack muttered, her cheeks burning with embarrassment.
"Tell me about it," Rainbow Dash said, trying to keep her head down. "I can't wait to get outta these clothes."
"Just try to ignore them, darlings," Diamond said, seemingly oblivious to their discomfort. "They're just jealous of your impeccable style."
"Yeah, or they, like, totally think we look amazing!" Mitzy added.
Applejack and Rainbow Dash just sighed.
Their first stop on the tour was the town square, where a group of ponies were gathered around a fountain. Mitzy and Diamond insisted on taking pictures, much to Applejack and Rainbow Dash's chagrin.
"Alright, now, give us a pose, darlings!" Diamond said, holding up her phone. "Something fierce and fabulous!"
"I don't do fierce and fabulous," Rainbow Dash muttered.
"Just try, darling," Diamond said. "It's all about the attitude."
"Yeah, be, like, totally confident!" Mitzy added. "Show 'em what you've got!"
Applejack and Rainbow Dash reluctantly struck a pose, trying their best to look like they weren't completely mortified. Rainbow Dash crossed her arms and attempted a confident smirk, while Applejack awkwardly placed a hoof on her hip.
"No, no, no!" Diamond said, shaking her head. "That's all wrong! You need to own it! Like this!"
Diamond struck a dramatic pose, one hoof on her hip, her head held high. Mitzy, meanwhile, did a cutesy pose, placing both hooves under her chin and batting her eyelashes.
"See?" Mitzy said. "It's easy!"
Applejack and Rainbow Dash tried to copy them, but they just ended up looking even more awkward and uncomfortable. Diamond sighed.
"We'll work on it," she said. "Now, let's get a picture with the fountain. It'll be a lovely backdrop."
They took several more pictures, with Mitzy and Diamond constantly adjusting Applejack and Rainbow Dash's poses and expressions. By the time they were done, Applejack and Rainbow Dash were ready to collapse.
"Can we take a break now?" Rainbow Dash asked, panting slightly.
"We've barely even started the tour!" Mitzy exclaimed. "There's, like, so much more to see!"
"She's right, darlings," Diamond said. "We have a schedule to keep."
And so, the tour continued. They visited the library, where Twilight Sparkle gave them a brief history of Ponyville. They walked past Sugarcube Corner, where Pinkie Pie offered them a sample of her latest cupcake creation (which Mitzy loved, but Diamond found "a bit too sweet"). They even stopped by Fluttershy's cottage, where they got to meet some of her animal friends.
Through it all, Applejack and Rainbow Dash tried their best to be good sports, but their patience was wearing thin. They were tired of being stared at, tired of posing for pictures, and most of all, tired of wearing these ridiculous outfits.
Their next stop was a clothing store, much to Applejack and Rainbow Dash's dread.
"Oh, a boutique!" Mitzy exclaimed, her eyes lighting up. "We have to go in!"
"I'm not sure that's such a good idea," Applejack said, trying to steer them away.
"Nonsense, darling," Diamond said. "A fashionista must always be aware of the latest trends."
Before Applejack or Rainbow Dash could protest further, Mitzy and Diamond dragged them into the store. The interior was filled with racks of clothes, shelves of accessories, and displays of shoes. Mitzy immediately began browsing through the racks, pulling out various items and holding them up to herself.
"Ooh, this dress is, like, totally cute!" she exclaimed, holding up a frilly pink dress. "And these shoes would go perfectwith it!"
Diamond, meanwhile, was examining a rack of scarves, her expression critical.
"Hmm, the quality is not quite up to Manehattan standards," she said, "but there are a few pieces that are… acceptable."
Applejack and Rainbow Dash stood awkwardly by the entrance, feeling completely out of place. They watched as Mitzy began trying on different outfits, twirling in front of the mirror and giggling to herself.
"I feel like I'm in a nightmare," Rainbow Dash muttered.
"Tell me about it," Applejack agreed. "I just want my old clothes back."
As Mitzy continued her shopping spree, she began pulling out more and more clothes, piling them up on the counter. Applejack and Rainbow Dash exchanged a worried look.
"Is she gonna buy all that?" Rainbow Dash whispered.
"I dunno," Applejack said. "But I have a bad feelin' about this."
Their suspicions were confirmed when Mitzy finally approached the counter, a mountain of clothes in her arms.
"I'll take all of this, please!" she said to the shopkeeper, a wide-eyed unicorn mare.
The shopkeeper's jaw dropped. "All of it?"
"Uh-huh!" Mitzy said. "It's all, like, totally perfect!"
The shopkeeper, still looking stunned, began ringing up the items. The total came to a staggering amount, far more than Applejack or Rainbow Dash had ever spent on clothes in their entire lives.
"That'll be five thousand bits," the shopkeeper said.
Mitzy didn't even flinch. She simply pulled out a wad of cash from her purse and handed it over.
"Keep the change!" she said with a smile.
Applejack and Rainbow Dash stared in disbelief. They knew Mitzy and Diamond were well-off, but they hadn't realized just how much money they had.
"Five thousand bits," Rainbow Dash whispered. "On clothes."
"That's more than I make in a year," Applejack added, shaking her head.
As they left the store, Mitzy carrying several shopping bags, Applejack couldn't help but ask.
"Don't you think that was a little… excessive?" she said.
"Excessive?" Mitzy asked, tilting her head. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, you just spent a fortune on clothes you probably don't even need," Applejack said.
"But they were all, like, totally cute!" Mitzy said. "And a fashionista can never have too many outfits!"
"She has a point," Diamond added. "One must always be prepared for any occasion."
"But five thousand bits…" Rainbow Dash said, still in shock.
"Oh, that's nothing, darling," Diamond said, waving her hoof dismissively. "Money is no object when it comes to fashion."
Applejack and Rainbow Dash just shook their heads. They were clearly dealing with a different breed of pony.
The next stop on their tour was a cafe, where they decided to take a break and have some refreshments. They found a table outside, and a waitress soon came to take their orders.
"I'll have a carrot-ginger-kale smoothie," Diamond said.
"And I'll have, like, a strawberry milkshake with extra whipped cream!" Mitzy added. "Oh, and sprinkles!"
Applejack ordered a cider, while Rainbow Dash opted for a simple water. As they waited for their drinks, they struck up a conversation.
"So," Applejack began, "how long have y'all been into this whole fashion thing?"
"Oh, like, forever!" Mitzy said. "Ever since I was a little filly, I've loved dressing up and making myself look pretty."
"I've always had an eye for style," Diamond added. "Even as a foal, I could tell what colors and patterns worked well together. It's a gift, really."
"And how did you two meet?" Rainbow Dash asked.
"We met through a, like, totally awesome fashion magazine!" Mitzy explained. "We both wrote letters to the editor, and we realized we had, like, so much in common!"
"We've been pen pals ever since," Diamond said. "And now, finally, we've met in person."
"It's, like, a dream come true!" Mitzy said, clasping her hooves together.
"So, what do you do for a livin'?" Applejack asked. "Besides, you know, spendin' a fortune on clothes."
"We're fashion designers, darling," Diamond said. "We create our own lines of clothing and accessories."
"And they're, like, totally popular!" Mitzy added. "We have our own boutique in Manehattan, and ponies come from all over Equestria to buy our stuff!"
"That's… impressive," Rainbow Dash admitted.
"It wasn't easy, though," Diamond said. "It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get where we are today."
"Yeah," Mitzy said. "We had to, like, start from the bottom. Diamond used to work, like, tons of odd jobs just to make ends meet."
"I did what I had to do," Diamond said, a hint of pride in her voice. "I even worked on a construction site for a while, hauling bricks and mixing cement. It was grueling work, but it taught me the value of perseverance."
"And I used to, like, sell flowers on the street corner," Mitzy added. "I'd stand out there for hours, rain or shine, just to make a few bits. But I never gave up on my dream!"
Applejack and Rainbow Dash were surprised by this revelation. They had assumed that Mitzy and Diamond had always lived a life of luxury, but it seemed they had to work just as hard as anypony else to achieve their success.
"Wow," Applejack said. "I gotta say, I'm impressed. That takes a lot of guts."
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash said. "I didn't realize you two were so… determined."
"Well, you can't achieve anything in life without hard work," Diamond said. "And a little bit of talent, of course."
"And, like, tons of passion!" Mitzy added. "You gotta, like, totally love what you do!"
Their drinks arrived, and they continued to chat, getting to know each other better. Applejack found herself respecting Diamond's work ethic, and Rainbow Dash discovered that Mitzy was actually a pretty good flier, even she mostly used flying as a means to keep her body in shape for modeling.
"You know," Applejack said, after a while. "You two ain't so bad. For a couple of city slickers."
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash added. "You're alright. Even if you did force us into these ridiculous outfits."
Mitzy and Diamond giggled.
"We're glad you think so," Diamond said. "Perhaps there's hope for you two yet."
"Maybe you'll even develop a sense of style," Mitzy said with a wink.
Applejack and Rainbow Dash rolled their eyes, but they couldn't help but smile. Maybe these two fashionistas weren't so bad after all.
As the day drew to a close, they made their way to the town hall, where Rarity's fashion show was being held. The hall was decorated with colorful banners and streamers, and a long runway stretched down the center of the room. Ponies were already beginning to arrive, taking their seats in anticipation of the show.
"Oh, this is, like, so exciting!" Mitzy exclaimed, her eyes wide with excitement.
"I can't wait to see Rarity's new collection," Diamond said, her tone filled with anticipation.
Applejack and Rainbow Dash, however, were dreading it. They knew they'd be expected to sit through the entire show, still dressed in their makeovers.
"Just try to blend in," Rainbow Dash muttered to Applejack.
"Easy for you to say," Applejack retorted. "You ain't the one wearin' a dress."
They found their seats near the front, and soon the lights dimmed, signaling the start of the show. A hush fell over the crowd as Rarity stepped onto the runway, her horn glowing brightly.
"Welcome, everypony, to the unveiling of my latest collection!" she announced, her voice filled with pride. "I've worked tirelessly on these designs, and I'm so excited to finally share them with you all!"
The crowd erupted into applause as the first model stepped onto the runway. One by one, ponies strutted down the catwalk, showcasing Rarity's new creations. There were dresses of every color and style, from elegant ballgowns to casual sundresses. There were hats adorned with feathers and jewels, and scarves made of the finest silk.
Mitzy and Diamond watched with rapt attention, oohing and aahing at each design. Applejack and Rainbow Dash, meanwhile, tried their best to look interested, but they were mostly just counting down the minutes until they could finally escape.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the last model exited the runway, and Rarity stepped back into the spotlight.
"Thank you all for coming!" she said, bowing deeply. "I hope you enjoyed the show!"
The crowd burst into applause once more, and Rarity beamed with pride. As the ponies began to file out of the hall, Mitzy and Diamond rushed up to Rarity, eager to congratulate her.
"Rarity, darling, that was amazing!" Diamond exclaimed. "Your best collection yet!"
"It was, like, totally fabulous!" Mitzy added. "I loved every single piece!"
"Oh, thank you, darlings!" Rarity said, blushing. "I'm so glad you enjoyed it."
"We sure did," Applejack said, stepping forward. "You really outdid yourself, Rarity."
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash added. "It was… something."
Rarity smiled, then her eyes fell on Applejack and Rainbow Dash's outfits. A look of confusion crossed her face.
"What in Equestria are you two wearing?" she asked.
Applejack and Rainbow Dash exchanged an embarrassed look.
"It's a long story," Rainbow Dash said.
"They were, like, totally inspired by our fashion sense!" Mitzy said proudly.
"We gave them a little makeover," Diamond added.
Rarity stared at them for a moment, then burst out laughing.
"Oh, darlings, you look… interesting," she said, trying to contain her laughter.
"We know," Applejack said, sighing. "We look ridiculous."
"But they, like, totally rocked it, right?" Mitzy said, looking at Rarity for approval.
"Well, it's certainly a… bold choice," Rarity said, still chuckling. "But hey, if you're happy, that's all that matters."
"We're not happy," Rainbow Dash said bluntly.
"Oh," Mitzy said, her smile fading slightly.
"But," Applejack added, "we appreciate the effort. And we learned a little somethin' about fashion today."
"You did?" Diamond asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash said. "We learned that it's not for us."
"But that it's, like, totally for some ponies," Applejack added, giving Mitzy and Diamond a small smile. "And that's okay."
Mitzy and Diamond smiled back, understanding dawning in their eyes.
"I guess you're right," Mitzy said. "Everypony has their own, like, totally unique style."
"And it's important to respect that," Diamond added.
"Exactly," Rarity said. "Now, how about we all go back to the boutique and get you two out of those… lovely outfits?"
Applejack and Rainbow Dash breathed a sigh of relief.
"That sounds like a plan," Rainbow Dash said.
They all headed back to Carousel Boutique, where Applejack and Rainbow Dash finally changed back into their own clothes. As they were getting ready to leave, Mitzy and Diamond stopped them.
"Wait, darlings," Diamond said. "Before you go, we have a little something for you."
"Yeah," Mitzy added. "It's, like, a thank you for being totally awesome tour guides!"
Mitzy and Diamond each pulled out a small, beautifully wrapped gift box from their bags. They presented one to Applejack and the other to Rainbow Dash.
"What's this?" Applejack asked, eyeing the box suspiciously.
"Just a little somethin' to remember us by," Diamond said with a smile.
"Open them up!" Mitzy exclaimed, bouncing with excitement.
Hesitantly, Applejack and Rainbow Dash opened the boxes. Inside, nestled on a bed of soft tissue paper, were two pieces of clothing. Applejack pulled out a red bandana, embroidered with a delicate pattern of apples and diamonds. Rainbow Dash found a pink scarf with a rainbow-colored lightning bolt stitched onto it.
"We made them ourselves," Diamond said. "We thought they might suit your… unique styles."
"They're, like, totally one-of-a-kind!" Mitzy added. "Just like you two!"
Applejack and Rainbow Dash looked at the gifts, then at each other. They were surprised by the gesture, and touched by the thoughtfulness behind it.
"Wow," Rainbow Dash said, running her hoof over the soft fabric of the scarf. "This is… actually pretty cool."
"Yeah," Applejack said, tying the bandana around her neck. "It's… well, it's kinda nice."
"We're glad you like them, darlings," Diamond said.
"They're, like, totally perfect for you!" Mitzy exclaimed.
"Well, thanks, y'all," Applejack said. "We appreciate it."
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash added. "It was… an interesting day. But we had fun, in a weird kinda way."
"We did too!" Mitzy said. "It was, like, totally the best day ever!"
"Indeed," Diamond said. "We'll never forget our time in Ponyville."
They all shared a smile, a sense of camaraderie having formed between them despite their differences.
"Well, we should probably get goin'," Applejack said. "Sun's settin', and we got chores to do."
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash said. "Places to be, things to… not wear."
Mitzy and Diamond giggled.
"It was lovely meeting you both," Diamond said. "And do visit us in Manehattan sometime. We'd love to show you around."
"Yeah!" Mitzy added. "We can, like, go shopping, and get makeovers, and, like, totally have a slumber party!"
Applejack and Rainbow Dash exchanged a look.
"We'll… think about it," Rainbow Dash said.
They said their goodbyes, and Applejack and Rainbow Dash headed out into the twilight, leaving Mitzy and Diamond to enjoy the rest of their stay at Carousel Boutique.
As they walked back to Sweet Apple Acres, Applejack and Rainbow Dash couldn't help but reflect on the day's events.
"Well, that was… somethin'," Rainbow Dash said, breaking the silence.
"You can say that again," Applejack agreed. "I never thought I'd spend a day gettin' dolled up like a prize-winnin' show pony."
"Yeah, and I never thought I'd actually kinda like a pink scarf," Rainbow Dash added, fingering the fabric around her neck.
"They weren't so bad, though, were they?" Applejack said. "Mitzy and Diamond, I mean. A little… intense, maybe. But they meant well."
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash said. "They were alright. For a couple of fashion-crazy city ponies."
They walked in silence for a few more minutes, each lost in their own thoughts.
"You know," Applejack said, finally. "I still can't believe that Diamond worked on a construction site."
"And Mitzy sold flowers on the street," Rainbow Dash added. "They're tougher than they look."
"Guess you can't judge a book by its cover," Applejack said with a nod.
"Or a pony by her excessively sparkly outfit," Rainbow Dash added with a grin.
They both laughed, the sound echoing in the quiet evening air. As they approached Sweet Apple Acres, they noticed a group of stallions standing near the entrance, looking in their direction.
"Uh oh," Rainbow Dash said, her eyes narrowing. "What's this all about?"
As they got closer, they recognized the stallions. They were some of the local boys, known for hanging around town and trying to impress the fillies.
"Well, well, well," one of the stallions said, stepping forward. "Look what we have here."
"If it ain't Applejack and Rainbow Dash," another stallion said, grinning. "Lookin'… fancy."
Applejack and Rainbow Dash bristled at the comment, but before they could respond, they heard a voice behind them.
"They do look, like, totally amazing, don't they?"
It was Mitzy, her voice filled with a playful challenge. She and Diamond had followed them, curious about their encounter. Using her magic, she levitated Rainbow Dash over beside the stallions.
"Why don't you, like, go talk to them?" Mitzy suggested, a mischievous glint in her eye. "I bet they'd, like, totally love to hear all about your day."
Rainbow Dash glared at her, but Mitzy just winked.
"Yeah," Diamond added, joining in on the fun. "Show them how a real mare handles herself." She used her magic to levitate Applejack to join Rainbow Dash. "Be direct. Don't waste time with pleasantries."
Applejack and Rainbow Dash looked at each other, then at the stallions, then back at Mitzy and Diamond. They were trapped.
"Alright, fine," Rainbow Dash said, sighing. "But if this goes south, it's on you two."
"Just be, like, totally yourself!" Mitzy said encouragingly. "And, like, maybe try to act a little cutesy. Boys, like, totallylove that."
"And don't forget to be confident," Diamond added. "Show them you're not afraid to speak your mind."
Applejack and Rainbow Dash took a deep breath and approached the stallions, trying to channel their inner fashionistas.
"Howdy, boys," Applejack said, forcing a smile. "What brings y'all out here?"
"We were just, uh, admirin' the view," one of the stallions said, his eyes fixed on Applejack's bandana.
"Yeah," another stallion added. "You two are lookin'… real nice tonight."
"Why, thank you," Rainbow Dash said, trying to mimic Mitzy's bubbly tone. "We just had a little… makeover."
"A makeover, huh?" a third stallion said, raising an eyebrow. "Well, it, uh, suits you."
"We think so too," Applejack said, trying to imitate Diamond's confident tone. "It's important to always look your best, you know."
The stallions exchanged confused glances, clearly not used to seeing Applejack and Rainbow Dash act like this.
"So," Rainbow Dash said, deciding to follow Mitzy's advice. "What are you boys up to tonight?" She leaned in closer, batting her eyelashes for good measure.
The stallions stammered, taken aback by her sudden forwardness.
"Uh, we were just… hangin' out," one of them said.
"Yeah, nothin' special," another added.
"Well, maybe you should, like, totally hang out with us sometime," Rainbow Dash said, giving them what she hoped was a cutesy smile.
"Yeah," Applejack added, trying to follow Diamond's instructions. "We could, uh, talk about… things. You know, whatever you boys are interested in."
The stallions looked at each other, then back at Applejack and Rainbow Dash. They seemed to be at a loss for words.
"Uh, sure," one of them finally said. "That sounds… nice."
"Great!" Rainbow Dash said, clapping her hooves together. "It's a date!"
"A date?" the stallions repeated in unison.
"As friends, of course," Applejack added quickly.
"Right," Rainbow Dash said. "Just a friendly… get-together. You know. To… discuss our shared interests."
The stallions nodded slowly, still looking a bit bewildered.
"Well, we'll, uh, see you around, then," one of them said.
"Yeah," another added. "Later."
With that, the stallions quickly walked away, leaving Applejack and Rainbow Dash alone with Mitzy and Diamond.
"See?" Mitzy said, beaming. "You were, like, totally amazing!"
"You handled that like a true professional," Diamond added.
Applejack and Rainbow Dash just stared at them, still trying to process what had just happened.
"I can't believe that actually worked," Rainbow Dash said.
"Me neither," Applejack agreed. "I feel like I just stepped into another dimension."
"Well, you did great," Diamond said. "And who knows, maybe you'll even start to enjoy this whole 'fashion' thing."
"Don't push it," Rainbow Dash said with a chuckle.
They all laughed, the tension of the day finally dissipating. As they walked back towards the boutique, Applejack and Rainbow Dash couldn't help but feel a newfound appreciation for Mitzy and Diamond. They might be different, and their world of fashion might be completely alien to them, but they had shown them that there was more to life than just apples and speed.
"You know," Applejack said, as they reached the boutique. "Maybe we could, uh, hang out again sometime. You know, as friends."
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash added. "Maybe you could teach us a thing or two about… not looking like complete dorks."
Mitzy and Diamond smiled.
"We'd, like, totally love that!" Mitzy said.
"Indeed," Diamond added. "We could have so much fun together."
"Just… maybe next time, no makeovers," Rainbow Dash said.
"We'll see," Mitzy said with a mischievous wink.
They all laughed again, the sound echoing in the night. As they said their final goodbyes and headed their separate ways, Applejack and Rainbow Dash knew that this was just the beginning of a very interesting friendship.
The next morning, back in their normal clothes, the two were helping Rarity clean up after the fashion show, as Mitzy and Diamond slept in, exhausted from the previous day.
"So, you two seemed to have gotten along with Mitzy and Diamond pretty well," Rarity commented as she folded a bolt of fabric.
"Yeah," Applejack said. "They're alright. Once you get past all the… you know."
"The glitter and the glam?" Rarity asked with a smile.
"Exactly," Rainbow Dash said. "They're actually pretty cool. In their own way."
"I'm glad to hear it," Rarity said. "They really are wonderful ponies. And very talented, too."
"They sure know how to spend money," Rainbow Dash muttered.
"Well, they do work hard," Rarity said. "And they're very passionate about what they do."
"Yeah, that's true," Applejack said. "They're go-getters, I'll give 'em that."
"And they did teach us a few things," Rainbow Dash added. "About not judgin' a book by its cover. Or a pony by her sparkly dress."
"That's a good lesson to learn," Rarity said. "And who knows, maybe they even picked up a thing or two from you."
"Maybe," Applejack said with a shrug. "But I doubt they'll be tradin' in their high heels for work boots any time soon."
"You never know," Rarity said with a smile. "Stranger things have happened."
Later that day, after Mitzy and Diamond had woken up and had breakfast, they all gathered in the living room to relax before the two visiting unicorns had to leave to catch their train back to Manehattan. As they were chatting, Mitzy suddenly gasped.
"Oh my gosh, I almost forgot!" she exclaimed. "We have, like, totally important business to discuss!"
"What's that, darling?" Rarity asked.
"We need to, like, plan our photoshoot!" Mitzy said, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Photoshoot?" Rainbow Dash asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes!" Mitzy said. "We need to, like, totally capture your amazing makeovers with some professional photos!"
"I thought we agreed to never speak of those makeovers again," Applejack said, sighing.
"But they were, like, so good!" Mitzy said. "And we need to, like, show the world how totally talented we are!"
"She has a point," Diamond added. "It would be excellent publicity for our brand."
"And," Mitzy continued. "We have the perfect idea for the poses!"
"Oh boy," Rainbow Dash muttered. "Here we go again."
Mitzy and Diamond's horns began to glow, and Applejack and Rainbow Dash found themselves once again being levitated into the air.
"What are you doing?!" Applejack exclaimed.
"Just getting you two into position," Diamond said. "Don't worry, this will only take a moment."
They were moved around like rag dolls, their limbs being arranged into various poses. Rainbow Dash found herself being positioned in a series of "girly" poses, as Mitzy called them.
"Okay, now, like, toss your hair and look at the camera!" Mitzy instructed.
Rainbow Dash reluctantly tossed her wavy mane, feeling completely ridiculous.
"Perfect!" Mitzy exclaimed. "Now, sit on that chair and, like, put your hooves under your chin! It'll be, like, totally cute!"
Rainbow Dash sighed but did as she was told, feeling like a puppet on strings.
"Amazing!" Mitzy said. "Now, hug me and, like, wink at the camera! We'll look like totally best friends!"
Rainbow Dash grimaced but wrapped her arms around Mitzy, giving the camera a forced wink.
Applejack, meanwhile, was being directed by Diamond into a series of "elegant" poses.
"Now, darling, hold this expensive purse and look at the camera with a sophisticated expression," Diamond instructed.
Applejack awkwardly held the purse, trying to look as sophisticated as possible.
"Excellent!" Diamond said. "Now, sit on that chair and hold this fan in front of your mouth. It'll give you an air of mystery."
Applejack did as she was told, feeling like she was in some kind of bizarre play.
"Stunning!" Diamond exclaimed. "Now, stand back to back with me and turn your heads dramatically. Show them how beautiful you are!"
Applejack sighed but followed Diamond's instructions, turning her head to the side and trying to look as glamorous as possible.
Through it all, Rarity watched with amusement, occasionally snapping pictures with her own phone.
"You two are naturals!" she said with a chuckle.
"Easy for you to say," Rainbow Dash muttered. "You're not the one being forced to pose like a show pony."
"Just a few more, darlings," Diamond said. "And then we'll be done."
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the photoshoot came to an end. Applejack and Rainbow Dash practically collapsed onto the floor, exhausted from the ordeal.
"I think I've had enough fashion for one lifetime," Rainbow Dash said, panting.
"Tell me about it," Applejack agreed. "I need a long nap."
"But the pictures turned out, like, totally amazing!" Mitzy said, looking at the photos on her phone. "We're gonna be, like, so famous!"
"Just promise us you won't post those anywhere," Rainbow Dash said, giving her a pleading look.
"We'll see," Mitzy said with a mischievous grin.
"Mitzy," Rarity said, giving her a warning look.
"Okay, okay," Mitzy said, relenting. "We won't post them. Like, probably."
Applejack and Rainbow Dash groaned.
As the time for Mitzy and Diamond's departure drew near, they all gathered at the train station once more. The two visiting unicorns had their luggage packed and ready to go, and they were saying their final goodbyes.
"Thank you all for, like, totally the best visit ever!" Mitzy said, hugging Rarity tightly.
"It was a pleasure," Diamond added, giving Rarity a rare smile. "We'll have to do this again sometime."
"Absolutely, darlings," Rarity said. "And do visit again soon. Perhaps for the next fashion show?"
"We wouldn't miss it for the world," Diamond said.
"And maybe next time, we can, like, convince Applejack and Rainbow Dash to model for us!" Mitzy said with a wink.
Applejack and Rainbow Dash groaned in unison.
"We'll see," Applejack said.
"Don't hold your breath," Rainbow Dash added.
They all shared one last laugh, then Mitzy and Diamond boarded the train, waving goodbye as it pulled away from the station. As they watched the train disappear into the distance, Rarity turned to Applejack and Rainbow Dash.
"Well, darlings," she said. "That was certainly an experience."
"You can say that again," Applejack said.
"I still can't believe we let them do that to us," Rainbow Dash said, shaking her head.
"They did grow on you though, admit it," Rarity teased.
"Yeah, yeah," Rainbow Dash said. "They were okay. But I'm still never wearing that pink thing again." She shuddered at the memory.
"Fair enough," Rarity said with a chuckle. "But I think we all learned something from this, didn't we?"
"Speak for yourself," Rainbow Dash mumbled.
"I learned that I never want to see another diamond-encrusted anything for as long as I live," Applejack said.
"And I learned that there's more to ponies than meets the eye," Rarity said. "Mitzy and Diamond may be a bit… much, at times. But they're good ponies, with big hearts. And they're very talented, too."
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash said. "They're alright. Just… different."
"Different is good, darlings," Rarity said. "It's what makes life interesting."
As they walked away from the station, they spotted a group of colts looking in their direction, whispering to each other.
"Oh, great," Rainbow Dash muttered. "Here we go again."
"Just ignore them," Applejack said.
But as they got closer, they realized the colts were looking at them with a different kind of expression than before. It wasn't the usual teasing or flirtatious looks. It was… admiration?
"Hey, Applejack, Rainbow Dash," one of the colts said, stepping forward. "You two, uh, look nice today."
"Yeah," another colt added. "That, uh, that style really suits you."
Applejack and Rainbow Dash were taken aback. They weren't used to getting compliments from these particular colts.
"Uh, thanks," Rainbow Dash said, feeling a bit awkward.
"Yeah, thanks," Applejack added.
"So, uh, you two doin' anything later?" a third colt asked, a hopeful look in his eyes.
Applejack and Rainbow Dash exchanged a surprised glance.
"Uh, we have chores," Applejack said quickly.
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash added. "Lots of… chores."
"Oh," the colt said, looking disappointed. "Well, uh, maybe some other time, then."
"Maybe," Rainbow Dash said, not wanting to commit to anything.
The colts nodded and walked away, leaving Applejack and Rainbow Dash alone once more.
"What was that all about?" Rainbow Dash asked, looking after them.
"Beats me," Applejack said. "Maybe they finally realized we're too cool for 'em."
"Or maybe," Rarity said, a knowing smile on her face, "they just appreciate a mare with a unique sense of style."
Applejack and Rainbow Dash looked at each other, then burst out laughing.
"Yeah, right," Rainbow Dash said. "Come on, let's go home. I've had enough excitement for one day."
"Agreed," Applejack said. "And maybe when we get back, we can burn those makeovers and pretend this whole day never happened."
"Now, now, darlings," Rarity said. "Don't be like that. It wasn't all bad, was it?"
"It was definitely memorable," Rainbow Dash said. "That's for sure."
"And who knows," Rarity added. "Maybe one day you'll even thank Mitzy and Diamond for introducing you to the wonderful world of fashion."
Applejack and Rainbow Dash just rolled their eyes, but they couldn't help but smile. It had been a strange day, a day filled with surprises, discomfort, and a whole lot of glitter. But it had also been a day of learning, of friendship, and of discovering that sometimes, the most unlikely of ponies can have something in common.
As they walked off towards the sunset, they knew that, no matter what, they would never forget their encounter with the two fashionista unicorns from Manehattan. And, even if they wouldn't admit it out loud, a small part of them was actually grateful for the experience.
After all, how many ponies can say they've had their lives turned upside down by a pair of well-meaning, fashion-obsessed pen pals? Not many. And that, in itself, was something special.
The three friends continued on, leaving the events of the day behind them, but carrying the lessons they had learned with them. And, somewhere in Manehattan, two unicorn fashionistas were already planning their next visit to Ponyville, excited for another chance to share their passion with their new friends, whether they liked it or not. Because that's what friends are for, right?
