Road to recovery

“Twilight?” asked the alicorn mare when the unicorn didn't answer her. When she looked up at the violet mare, she could see why. Twilight had lowered her head and was staring at her hospital bed, breathing deeply and quickly as there was a look of panic in her eyes.

After a few seconds, the princess could see the young mare's mouth moving as if she was trying to say something. “W...what?” she said hesitantly and looked up briefly at the dark blue princess. When she saw the look on Twilight's face, her heart broke when she saw the panic and fear in her eyes. ''On Hearths Warming, you sent a farewell letter to my sister and i and ....'' Luna interrupted herself when she saw that Twilight was no longer listening to her. The mare's eyes darted back and forth as if she was trying to sort out her thoughts and her breathing quickened.

Not knowing what to do, she placed a hoof on her shoulder and began stroking the mare's head and neck, hoping to calm her down a little. “I...I...” she heard softly underneath her, ”Twilight?” Luna leaned down to her so that their faces were directly in front of each other. ''I... I remember...'' Twilight said softly. ''I can remember everything. I dissolved a lot of sleeping pills in a glass of water and drank them and.... And then you came through my balcony door... and... and .... then nothing.....'' the mare exhaled deeply. “How... how am I still alive?” Twilight looked up at the alicorn mare questioningly.

Just as she was about to answer the violet mare, the door to the room burst open and a white unicorn stallion with a blue mane came running in, followed by a pink alicorn mare and a small dragon. “TWILIGHT!” the stallion stopped beside the bed and looked worriedly at the mare. “Hello Shining Armor,” she greeted her brother as she recovered from the sudden shock. ''Hello Twilight and hello Auntie,'' Cadance greeted the unicorn mare and the alicorn mare.

“Twilight!” a small dragon came running up behind the pink alicorn mare and jumped onto the bed next to Twilight. “Hello, Spike?” the unicorn mare looked up in surprise at the little dragon on her bed. “Spike, I thought you were in the dragon kingdom with Ember?” she asked, confused. The dragon's eyes widened at the question, “When the princess sent me a message saying that you were in the hospital, I went back to Equestria as soon as possible! Ember didn't mind “Family comes first” she said,” the little dragon hugged the mare.

“The same with us,” Cadance began to speak after a short pause. “Auntie Celestia and Aunt Luna sent us a message that you were in the hospital and that you were awake,” the alicorn mare smiled down at her worriedly. “Yes Twilight, we were only told that you were here and not why, I tried to get an answer but the princesses are very stubborn and didn't tell us anything. What happened sis?” Shining Armor moved closer and closer to his sister, causing her to push the stallion away with one hoof.

Unsure whether she should answer the question and thus cause the mare and stallion to even more worry, she looked up at Luna questioningly. The dark blue mare just looked back to Twilight's eyes, thinking, until she shook her head slightly, “It's your decision if you want to tell them. They'll find out eventually anyway,” she tilted her head slightly, causing puzzled and worried looks from the pink princess and the stallion, who then turned their attention to the young unicorn mare, who was thinking.

”Sorry Shiny and Cadance. I want to keep the reason to myself for now,” she looked from one pony to the next.
