Three Wannabe Heroes

The shield that Shining Armor and Cadence had worked together to create moments ago shattered under the bombardment of the Smooze. Princess Luna, Cadence, Shining Armor, and Spike groaned in despair. Their last line of defense before Canterlot had failed, and the Smooze was now right at their doorstep.

“Don’t worry! We’re ready!” shouted Twilight, as she and her friends trotted back onto the balcony, followed by Princess Celestia. The six bearers were all wearing the Elements of Harmony around their necks, except for Twilight, who’s was a crown that she wore atop her head.

“Hurry!” shouted Cadence. “The Smooze is about to reach us!”

Indeed, the Smooze had already reached the base of the mountain that Canterlot was on, and it was rapidly rising up towards them. The many evil eyes of the monstrosity stared up at the city hungrily as giant purple mouths and hands reached up out of it towards it’s target.

Twilight looked at her friends. “Alright, girls. It’s now or never.”

The six mares nodded, and stepped forward to the front of the balcony.

“Let’s show that blob the power of friendship!” said Rainbow Dash with a determined look on her face.

They all closed their eyes, and prepared to activate the Elements.

Suddenly, there was a loud sound like a burst of magical energy. They all looked up and saw a beam of magical energy shoot up into the sky above the city. In an instant, it formed a magical bubble shield around the entire city.

“Wait. Who’s doing that?” asked Twilight.

They all looked at each other, but it was apparent from the look of confusion on everypony’s face that none of them, not even the Princesses of the day and night, knew what was going on.

Suddenly, Pinkie Pie shouted, “Look! Down there!” She pointed with her hoof. They all looked where she was pointing and spotted two ponies standing just outside of Canterlot, outside of the shield bubble, on the edge of the cliff next to the waterfall. They were apparently both unicorn ponies, as they had their horns crossed with each others, combining their magic to create the magical shield surrounding the city. One was dressed in golden clad armor, and the other wore a purple sorcerer's hat and cape.

“Who are they?” asked Applejack.

As they kept staring at the two unknown unicorns, they could see that the white one in the armor was a stallion with a blond mane and tail, and the blue one with the cape and hat was a mare with a silvery-white mane and tail.

At that moment, Princess Cadence was the first to realize who they were.

“IT’S MY BROTHER!” Cadence shouted in shock.

“Blueblood!?” exclaimed Shining.

“NEPHEW!?” exclaimed Celestia and Luna at the same time, both in surprise and worry.

Cadence nodded. “… And that one friend of his, Trixie Lulamoon!”

“TRIXIE!?” Twilight and her friends shouted in amazement.

Cadence and Shining looked at them in surprise. “You know her?” Cadence asked.

Rarity snorted. “Let’s just say we’ve met,” the purple maned unicorn said with disdain in her voice.

At that moment, the Smooze smashed itself against the shield bubble. Shining Armor expected it to break like all of his had against it. Yet, to his surprise, it held strong. The Smooze continued to slam itself against the magical barrier surrounding the city, but this new shield did not waver one bit.

“I… I don’t believe it!” stuttered Shining Armor. He stared back down at his brother-in-law and Trixie. “Their shield is working against it!”

“But how?” exclaimed Cadence. “My brother has never been this good at magic! He hardly ever practiced with it, let alone performed feats like this!”

“Trixie isn’t supposed to be this good either,” said Twilight to her older brother and sister-in-law. “Back when we first met her, she bragged about what a skilled magician she was, but we later found out she was just making it all up.”

As the Smooze kept trying, unsuccessfully, to breach the shield, there was suddenly a flash of many colors up in the sky, like a circular rainbow going out in all directions. From the center of it, going at supersonic speed, a brown streak came shooting down towards the sea of Smooze.

“A… A Sonic Rainboom!?” Rainbow Dash stuttered as she looked up at this new sight. “But I’m the only one who can do that!”

“Apparently not,” said Applejack next to her.

Rainbow Dash growled. “Who is that?” she demanded, wanting to know who this new fast flyer was.

The brown streak began circling around over the sea of Smooze, still flying at supersonic speed. As it flew around and around in a circle, the wind began to pick up, and the clouds overhead began to spin.

“They’re creating a tornado!” said Twilight. Then she got it. “They’re trying to suck up the Smooze!”

“Who ever it is, they’ll never be able to create a strong enough one to defeat that thing all on their own,” said Dash.

As who ever it was kept flying, a tornado began to form over the Smooze. It started out as a small funnel cloud, but it rapidly grew stronger and stronger as the brown streak flew around at amazing speeds. Soon, a full-blown T11 class tornado was raging right beside the mountain that Canterlot was on, and it was still growing stronger.

Rainbow Dash and the others were wide eyed, as they couldn’t believe what they were seeing. This one single Pegasus had managed to create one of the most powerful tornadoes they had ever seen all on his or her own! As far as they all knew, that was impossible. They were all glad that they were protected from the harsh winds by the shield bubble around the city.

Over the sound of the raging winds, they could just hear the sound of a deep bellowing roar as the Smooze began to get sucked up into the massive twister. The purple mass struggled to resist, attempting to slide away from the storm, but it was to no avail. The tornado began to turn purple in color as the powerful suction of the cyclone pulled the sea of purple liquid into it’s rapture, bit by bit, draining it all up off of the land, slowly uncovering all that it had immersed beneath it. After a few minutes, the entire ocean of Smooze had been sucked into the tornado, and was now trapped in the gigantic vortex.

Down on the cliff outside of Canterlot, Trixie and Blueblood connected their horns again and shot a beam of magical energy at the tornado. The beam began to create yet another bubble shield, this time around the Smooze tornado. The brown streak flew out of the twister to safety as the shield bubble completely entrapped the tornado. The brown streak then slowed to a stop in mid air, and it was then that Twilight and her friends could all see that it was not a Pegasus, like they had thought, but a griffon. And not just any griffon, but a griffon that Rainbow Dash recognized immediately.

“GILDA!” Dash shouted in disbelief. Everypony looked at her.

“You know her too?” asked Shining.

Before Rainbow could answer, Pinkie Pie spoke. “She used to be Rainbow Dash’s friend, but then we all found out that Gilda was really a big meany, so now they’re not friends anymore.”

“How do you know Gilda?” Twilight asked Shining.

“She’s been spending time with Blueblood and Trixie. We’ve seen them getting together sometimes to…, I don’t know, bitch and complain about things they don’t like, I guess.”

“We mostly just ignore the three of them,” said Cadence.

With a flash of bright light, the shield bubble surrounding the city vanished, and the bubble around the Smooze tornado began to shrink, growing smaller and smaller, trying to squeeze the Smooze down. Finally, the bubble reached as small as it could become with the Smooze trapped inside it. It was a giant purple ball floating just beside the Canterlot Mountain.

Gilda then flew down underneath the giant floating purple ball and began pushing up on it, flapping her wings as hard as she could. At the same time, down next to the waterfall, Trixie and Blueblood flared their horns with magic, apparently pumping everything they had in them into this next spell. Just then, the giant Smooze ball began to ascend, slowly up towards the sky. Its speed increasing little by little as it went.

One by one, everypony watching began to suspect what they were doing.

“No way,” said Spike.

They watched as Trixie, Blueblood, and Gilda, combined their magic and muscle, and threw the gigantic ball of goo up into the sky, launching it into space. There, it sailed harmlessly into Celestia’s sun.

The six Elements of Harmony fell, unused, from their bearers to the ground with a loud clatter. No pony noticed this as all of them continued staring at what they had just seen with their own eyes, their lower jaws all hitting the ground.

“That’s…” began Shining Armor.

“Im…” said Rainbow Dash.

“Possible!” finished Twilight.

At that moment they began to hear the sound of cheers coming from different places in Canterlot, as ponies, royal guards and civilians who hadn’t been evacuated in time and were still in the city, began coming out in celebration, having also witnessed what had just happened.

Trixie and Blueblood teleported themselves inside the city walls and Gilda flew down and landed next to them just as dozens of Canterlot ponies began to surround them, shouting words of praise and gratitude.

Trixie, Blueblood, and Gilda stood there smugly, taking it all in.

Gilda looked over at her too friends and spoke to them over the sound of the roaring crowd. “Best. Plan. Ever,” she said with a grin.

Trixie smirked back at her. “Was there ever any doubt?”

Up above on the balcony, the six Element Bearers, Spike, Shining Armor, and the three Alicorn princesses, all looked down at the new heroes as they enjoyed all the attention they were getting.

“I had no idea our nephew and his friends could be so heroic,” Luna said to her older sister in amazement.

Celestia narrowed her eyes as she stared at her nephew and his two friends. “Neither did I,” she said with suspicion in her voice.
