Hiding a rainbow

15 minutes of searching and nothing.

"Wait! There she is!" A white hoof pointed to a blue figure with a rainbow mane sitting on top of a hill.

Rainbow was looking into the distance. She then closed her eyes and remembered a pinic here with her family. A family she used to have.

Flashback

A pure white Pegasus mare with a red, orange and yellow mane was laying on cloud, about a meter from the ground, and was looking downwards. She had indigo eyes and a sunset cutie mark. Her name Sunset Breeze.

Her husband- Lightning Blitz- was a musky blue with hair resembling a lightning, but green, blue and purple. His were tinted rose and had lightning bolt cutie mark.

Next to him were two young fillies.

The youngest was white tinted blue. Her hair was blue with a purple and red stripe. Her eyes were magneta. She had no cutie mark, her name was Daydream.

The eldest was Rainbow Dash. She was running around, among the daisies, with her father and sister. She was giggling and smiling. She was happy.

End Of Flashback

A tear ran down her cheek. She heard her friends and Soarin come up but did not speak to them.

"Rainbow, sweetie. Are you ok?" Soarin asked as he landed next to her.

She didn't reply. She just stared blankly at Celestia's sunset.

Six concerned looks were exchanged before returning to Rainbow. They decided to leave her. As they left, Rainbow whispered,

"I'm sorry. I miss you. I failed you." Her head drooped as she said the last parts.

The next morning, Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy and Pinkie met up at Twilight's waiting for Soarin.

"I do hope that Rainbow dear is ok." Rarity inquired as she applied the last of mascara.

"Ah just wanta know why she looked so depressed." Just as Fluttershy opened her mouth to reply to Applejack's comment, Soarin entered with a depressed looking Rainbow behind. Her hair was dullened and ruffled, her wings were messy and drooped, her eyes carried bags and her cheeks looked moist.

"Girls, I'm sorry I worried you last night. I....I...I just had somewhere to clear my hear."

"Rainbow, why?" Fluttershy asked.

"Well...I...um."

"Well?" Rarity was growing impatient.

"Fluttershy, you remember when you moved to Ponyville."

Fluttershy nodded.

"Well, that's when everything went downhill."

Flashback

"Mom! Rainbow has nicked me crayons! MOM!" Screamed Daydream.

"Girls, play nicely and no yelling." Her voice as soft as Fluttershy's.

"But..."

"No buts young lady, listen to your mother." Ordered Blitz.

"But Rainbow-"

"You are not a goat, Dream."

"Hmpf!" Rainbow stuck her tongue out.

"Daaad?" Rainbow was acting her cutest.

"No!"

"But you don't even know what it is yet!"

"Still no!"

"Oh come on! Gilda has got an awesome party this weekend! All the cool ponies are going!"

"What?! That Gilda! She's not a good example for my little Dashie." Sunset said as she tidied up.

"Oh horseapples!" Rainbow muttered.

"MOM! DAD! RAINBOW IS- mmphf." Dream got a hoof to the mouth.

"Rainbow Miriam Dash! Be nice to your sister and mind your language!"

KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.

Blitz got up to answer the door.

"Come on girls, time for bed." Ushered Sunset.

"HEY! WHAT THE-"

"GET DOWN NOW!" Yelled a low voice. A dark brown Pegasus held down Blitz and held a knife to his throat.

"GIRLS!" Sunset tried to get over to them but was stabbed in the chest by a marine blue pegasus.

"MOM!" The girls squealed.

"SHUT IT!" He hissed.

"What do you want?" Blitz asked worrying for the safety of his children.

"Well, rumors say that you are loaded."

"With you gone we can hoard it!"

"You disgust me!"

As Blitz spoke, one of the pegasi plunged a knife into Blitz's back.

The fillies whimpered.

The strange stallions grabbed numerous expensive items and left. Completely forgetting the two scared fillies.

"Mom.dad." Rainbow whispered.

"Rain-Rainbow. Look after Daydream. For us. Protect her." Sunset choked.

"Yes. Yes. I promise. I love you." Sobbed Rainbow.

"Mommy. Daddy. Please don't go." Whispered Dream choking on her own tears. The two fillies were distraught.

"We both love you. Make us proud. Become a Wonderbolt, Rainbow. We...love you!"

Blitz closed his eyes. He was gone. Quickly followed by Sunset.

Rainbow hugged her sister tight.

"It'll be okay. Don't worry."

Tears soaked her cheeks.

"I promise. I promise on my life that I will keep you safe Daydream. I love you."

They both fell asleep hugging each other, trying to dream away the event that just happened.
