It was a normal day in the city of Juno. The fishermen were bringing in their hauls, and setting right back out. The children played ball in the streets as mothers watch. The birds were chirping, and flying about as the elders sat and traded stories from their varied past. Juno was a quiet town, but we were proud. We were proud to be in the Seventh Nation, the only nation besides the Eleventh to stay out of this goddess forsaken war. Karklands war had started centuries ago, the twelve nations grew apart and settled it in bloodshed and violence. But we're humans, and fighting is what humans do best.

But the Seventh stayed out, and its citizens were grateful. I've been in Juno all my life, and I always expected to be. Not out of being a dead end town, I could leave whenever I wanted too. But out of safety, as I was a Magi. To date it is believed I was the last magi of Karkland, the very last human to be granted the Goddess's gift. I was taken as a child because of my powers, left to be studied in an Inquisitor prison of the Eight Nation, run by High Inquisitor Talaki. He was one of the most evil beings ever created on this planet. But I was able to escape with the help of smugglers and relocated to Juno with my family, and the city and its people have protected me ever since. But war always found a way to arrive, and that's exactly what it did.

I remember walking through the market that day, gazing at all the merchandise available, saying hello to all my friends as I walked home. I looked on as repulser vehicles zoomed pass overhead, their hover grids blowing a gentle heat upon the pathways, simpler vehicles also traversed around the city.  As I made my way home I saw one of my sisters' friends, Peter, playing kickball in the street. He saw me and a big bright smile crept across his face.

"Evan!", he shouted, "Think fast!".

The young child threw the ball towards me and I caught it mid-air with levitation, as I knew he wanted me to. His eyes grew large in amazement as I hovered the ball back to him.

"Evan you are so AWESOME!" the child exclaimed.

I chuckled as I said my goodbye and continued my way towards my home.

As I walked up to my family's home I saw my three younger sisters playing outside, Tamra who was 14, Sarah who was 12 and then Casey, who was turning nine this week. Tamra looked up to see me with her confident grin, she was definitely a spitting image of me, strong-hearted and bold, but also compassionate when needed.

"Hey big bro!" she said," You wanna see what we did to Missus O'Hearans flower bed?".

I gave her a look of pretend disappointment, which she saw through.

"Now haven't you put that woman through enough annoyances?" I asked.

She just laughed and punched me in the arm in a sibling way. I rubbed her head and hugged my two younger sister and made my way inside the house.

"Hey ma, hey pa! I'm back from the market!" I shouted, "But I need to go back out and help Sandusky fix his repulser board, he jammed the hover grid once again."

My mother yelled from the den, "Okay honey, just be back in time for supper!"

"And you tell that slacker to quit riding over Hilmont Street, 'fore I blast him outta the sky!" my father added.

"Alright guys, will do, I love you."

As I made my way out of the house again Tamra ran up to me excitedly.

"Hey! You're going to work on Dusky's repulser right?" she asked.

"Yeah kiddo, wanna tag along?" I replied.

She beamed at me, about to agree, when suddenly she was cut off from a noise. It was ear piercing, it sounded as if someone was screaming in the highest pitch possible by a human. And that's when the bomb's started falling.

I barely reacted when I yelled at Tamra to get the girls and get inside the house now. She turned to me as I ran off.

"HEY! Where are you going?" she yelled to me, almost crying.

"Don't worry, I'll be right back. I have to see what's going on. I love you Tamra, tell everyone else that I love them too. I'm not leaving you." I said as I ran off into the chaos.

As I ran through the now devastated market there was chaos all around me, I still had no clue what was going on until I looked above me into the sky. Warships were raining rockets upon Juno, warships from the Eight Nation of Janmori. They blasted everything in the sky, from passenger and luxury repulser crafts to the small amount of militia vehicles deployed. Juno didn't stand a chance, we were a small fishing village, our police force and militia consisted of part time fishermen and older veterans. That's when troop transports started to drop in, landing a dozen troops in every load.

These soldiers, no, these monsters, were shooting mercilessly. I saw a group of them rounding people into a group, they were all crying and holding onto each other, begging for their lives. The Janmori simply clicked their safety on their guns off, and gunned the whole group down. I was enraged, I could feel the adrenaline and magic course through my body, a deadly combination. I felt my hands light with fire, a power I usually restrained, but I felt nothing as I sent fireball after fireball at these monsters. They screamed as they lit, trying to pat the fire out, but it overtook them as I watched. Another group turned the corner and I felt something inside me, as if an impulse my mouth let out some of the most ancient types of magic, a power tome.

"CORALA MAL NAN," I shouted.

The soldiers that were once running towards me instantly vaporized as a beam of pure energy suddenly erupted from my body and cut them down.

My body had never felt so drained, soldier after soldier poured in; it seemed infinite. Then I ran, ran as quickly as I could back to my home. I passed many bodies in the street, some burned, some shot, others hardly recognizable by explosions. I passed by a small body, a very familiar body, it was Peter. Blood was stained on his shirt from a bullet wound, They had not even spared a child. I ran quicker, bent on saving my family, I had to make it. As I turned the corner I saw my house, the soldiers had not made it there yet.

"Thank the Goddess," I said to myself.

Then I saw Tamra run out of the door and onto the porch, her little body was shaking. I reached out my hand running towards her.

She screamed "Big brother! Eva-"

Her voice was cut short as a stray bomb landed on my house. Completely obliterating it.

My heart nearly exploded as I screamed "TAMRA! GIRLS! MOM, DAD. NOOO!"

I fell to my knees, I failed them. I couldn't protect them, everything I loved died in front of my eyes. Another explosion rocked behind me; it sent me to the ground, I could feel myself blacking out.

All I remember after that was being dragged away by someone somewhere, the person's words shouting at me, "Evan! Evan! Don't worry buddy, we're getting out of here, Dusky isn't going to leave you here."

I never got to thank my best friend as I blacked out, just wanting to die.
