The Origin Of Derpy
Chapter three: From Depression to Opression

I awoke within my basket, swaying back and forth. I looked over and saw the mare from before, her hair flailing up and down against the wind as she sprinted. I looked back and saw a muscular stallion standing his ground between us and the timberwolves. I could only imagine what happened back there. None the less, she rescued me from whatever grim fate those wolves had in store for me back there.
My savior continued to dash down the dirt path we were on, knocking my head in all directions. Making it near impossible to see where it was we were going. After a few minutes of continued sprinting she began to slow down to a trot. I could now see where we were heading, and took note of a enlarging structure ahead of us. A white picket fence surrounded the structure, flower bushes engulfing the entire bottom of the fence. The scene of playing fillies could be seen from afar. The closer we came to the entrance of the structure, the slower my savior moved. We were nearly in front of the fence when she looked at me and spoke.
"Now I need you to stay hidden for me, can you do that? I just need you to hide under your blanket for now. I promise it wont be for long, I just need you to do that for me."
I didn't know how to respond to that request so I just obliged and rolled over in the blankets covering myself entirely. She did after all just save my life, I have no reason to believe she'd steer me wrong.
"Good girl, now just stay like that until I say its okay to come out".
I poked my eyes out of one of the covers and saw we were finally at the gate where a gray muscular colt stood.
"You're late, by a good half hour Daze... You know I don't like to be kept waiting."
"Yeah... I know I'm late. Can we just keep this between you and me and not tell Ms. Lily?" Daze said in a soothing voice as she bumped her chest against his, moving her lips mere inches from his and lifting her hoof up to scratch the bottom of his chin.
"Well... I suppose we can, but my silence wont come cheap." The colt said as he leaned forward closing his eyes and puckering his lips. Daze instantly reacted tilting her head to the right dodging his face, all the while cringing her's. Daze then moved her whole body away from him and was now standing behind the colt.
"Good, I'm glad we have an understanding." Daze said as she turned away and headed to a door with a sign above it marked "fillies".
"Hey Daze, what's in the basket? I don't seem to recall you leaving with one this morning." The colt questioned.
Daze became frozen stiff. "Oh, what this? No no, I uh.... found it? Right, I found it in the woods. An decided to take it." Daze said while sinking her head and bracing herself, for what I hadn't a clue.
"Uh huh; so you just stole somepony's basket? For no good reason? Just decided to walk off with it huh?"
"No!" Daze said sternly regaining her posture. "I saw no one, therefore I didn't see a reason for me not to be able to take it." She said turning herself the other way again, heading towards the door once more.
"Riiiiiiight...... Well don't worry, I wont be long." He said with a cocky tone. Daze closed both her eyes and wiped one with her right hoof. She gulped down, and headed through the door.
As soon as the door closed, the aura became different. What was once a cheery and pleasant vibe was now all gone. Replaced by a ray of woe and depression, with a gray gloom lingering over everyponys head. We walked through the ere, dimly lit hallway and emerged through the other side. I figured we were in the clear so I began to unravel myself from my covers. "No! Not yet, stay right where you are." Daze demanded in a hush, I halted my actions and began to play possum once more. As she continued to walk I heard sounds mixed with her steps... Sounds resembling metal clanking against something. What it was hitting I hadn't the foggiest. We made our way to a wooden staircase, once there Daze began to sprint up until she reached a door that read 'Room of Daze and Sandy'. She swung the door open, bolted in and slammed it behind her letting out a deep sigh of relief the entire time.
"Okay you can come ou-" Daze was stopped dead in the middle of her sentence. I turned away from looking at her to see what she saw. It was a tan filly with blonde hair and bandages wrapped around her wings. "Sandy?" Daze with a look of fear on her face began to slowly creep towards the filly. "Sandy?!" She repeated, her fear growing in her voice. Daze grabbed her shoulder and the filly jerked her arms over, slapping Daze's arms off of her. The tan filly whipped her face around towards Daze. Her fur under her eyes stained from tears and anger evident within them.
"YOU LIED!" Sandy yelped at Daze. "I TRUSTED YOU! YOU TOLD ME ALL WOULD BE FINE AND YOU LIED TO ME!"
"Sandy I couldn't have bared telling you...."
"DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT HE DID TO ME!? I WAS STRIPPED OF MY INNOCENCE. HE VIOLATED ME DAZE! He broke my wings and violated me..." Sandy became too choked up from her emotions to maintain her angry volume she was addressing Daze with and just began crying into her hooves. Daze reached over trying to make contact with her again, but her hoof was swatted away once more.
"Your......... to me." Sandy Murmured.
"What?" Daze asked in a concerned tone.
"I SAID YOU'RE DEAD TO ME!" She screamed as she pushed Daze away from her and ran out of the room crying. Daze's eye's went dull as she fell onto her haunches. Tears began forming in her eyes, but she did not shed them. She closed her eyes picked herself up and began walking towards me.
"Sandy's a fighter. I know you don't know her yet, but me and her are like sister's. And in time she'll become your sister too. Right now though she's frightened and doesn't know who she can trust in this world. She'll come around... Someday." Daze said all the while looking out the open door. I had no idea what she was talking about; I came to the conclusion that it was grown up stuff. She then continued talking while looking at me. "I failed her today, as a friend and as a sister. But I can still help you. I can still protect you..." She paused for a moment, deep in thought. "Why don't you get on out of those covers so I can take a look at ya, make sure your still all in one piece." She said faking a smile, while patting the top of her bed. I rolled around eventually getting free of the covers, while Daze walked back over and closed the bedroom door. I sat on my haunches in the basket. She walked back over to the bed and put her two front hooves onto it. "Well you coming over hun?" She asked with a cocked head.I looked at her in silence.
"Can you answer me please?" I shook my head in response, and opened my mouth pointing a hoof down it. "well you can at least walk right?" I shook my head again. With a chuckle of disbelief she made her way over to me lifting me up with her two front hooves and began to stand on her hind legs. "I would hate to think what would have happened if I didn't see you before those timberwolves did, must have been fate huh?" She asked me, I only nodded in agreement.
She laid me down on my belly and began examining my wings. "Does it hurt when I put some pressure on them?" She asked leaning a little bit into my wings. I let out a high pitched yelp in response, she instantly backed off. "Okay okay, don't worry I'm not going to touch them anymore; they're definitely broken though." She said as she reached into a night stand that stood next to the bed revealing a roll of white stitched cloth that I had seen nurse Redheart use before and began unraveling the cloth. She then proceeded wrapping my wings towards my body with the fabric. I let out little squeaks of disapproval all the while. "Oh hush, If I don't do this now they'll never get better." That didn't change the fact that I didn't like it. "Okay good, that about does it. Sooo do you have a name?" Lifting myself back up to my haunches I looked at her and shrugged my shoulders. I then remembered the paper that had been stuffed into my basket and pointed to it. Daze followed my gaze and made her way over to the basket. After a few seconds of scavenging through it she found the paper and unfolded it. She read the contents and folded it back up, quickly looking back at my direction. "So this says your name is Derpy Diana Hooves. You're lucky hun, I don't even have a last name but you get both a middle and last!" She said in a teasing voice. I looked at her with a smile. I now had a name, I was Derpy...
My thoughts about my new name ceased when both me and Daze head hoof steps coming up the stairs. Daze began to hyperventilate and shift her head back and forth. As quickly and gently as she could she lifted me up and placed me in my basket. She then proceeded to putting me in the nearby closet. I lifted myself trying to regain my footing from the sudden movement when Daze's hoof held me down. "Stay here and be quiet. Don't make a sound, he can't know your here." Who? The colt from earlier? I thought to myself. Suddenly the door slammed open and made Daze jump. She quickly closed the closet door and turned around to her new guest in the room, all the while leaving her hooves behind her back ensuring the closet would not open.
"30 minutes Daze; you were 30 minutes late..." It was the colt from before.
"you know I didn't mean to Cobblemane." Daze retorted.
"Oh I know." He made his way over to Daze. "You want to be a good mare, and good mare's follow rules." He said caressing her cheek, causing Daze to flinch away from his touch. He became annoyed at her motion and slammed her against the closet door, pinning her neck and face to the door while her front hooves tried pushing back. The slam caused the closet door to just barely open to the point where I could see what was going on. "And good mare's take their punishment!" He said as he spread her hind legs apart and began to haunch himself over her.
"NO! OH CELESTIA PLEASE DON'T!" Daze shouted.
"You forced my hoof DA-" His sentence was cut short by a urgent knock at the door. He paused for a moment in silence... He looked at the door and back at Daze who was now looking at him with fear and tears in her eye's. He looked back at the door and let out a heavy sigh. He grabbed hold of Daze and tossed her onto the bed. He made his way over to the door and opened it revealing another muscular colt.
"Uh huh... and we're sure about this? Alright..." The conversation didn't last more than ten seconds before the second colt left the room and Cobblemane closed the door. He turned back over to Daze and slowly walked over. He now stood a mere inch in front of Daze's face and without warning he struck Daze in the face knocking her over to the side of her bed.
"Why?" Daze whimpered to Cobblemane who was now standing over her body.
"You! You and your little excursion today just got one of my guys killed!" Cobble ended his sentence with a kick into Daze's stomach. My eyes began to water as I saw her get kicked, knowing full well I could do nothing to stop it. "And for what?! That little bitch your hiding in the closet over there?!" He pointed to where I was hidden and my heart sank. "That's right I knew about her the whole time! YOU STUPID... FUCKING... WHORE!" Each insult followed by another blow.
"Cobblemane! What are you doing?!" Said a voice from the now open door. There stood a rather plump pony of mint green coat, purple eyes and white mane/tail.
"But Ms. Lily she's the one that got Stone Killed today!"
"So beating the living daylight out of this poor dear is going to change that?" She said as she began to light a cigarette and walked towards the two. "We treat each and everyone of our ponies as one of our own children... Not a punching bag." She said picking Daze up and brushing her off. "Now this poor dear has been through enough today, so why dont you go down to the kitchen and go grab her some dinner."
"Yes Ms. Lily" Cobble bowed to her before leaving the room.
"I'm sorry Ms. Lily I... I thought Stone would be okay..." Daze said in a hushed voice.
"No no, I'm the one who should be sorry deary." Ms. Lily said as her horn began to glow. "I should have made it clear for you." Not a second later Lily had Daze's hair gripped within her magic. "Now you listen to me you little bitch, cause one more incident like this and I wont hesitate to let Cobblemane have his way with you, are we clear?! I said are WE CLEAR?!" Lily asked again this time taking her cigarette and rubbing the burning ashes from the tip on her cheek.
"YES!!!! Yehehess....." Daze cried aloud, her words becoming muffled from her cries.
"Good... Do not test my patience again." and with that she made her way out of the room. Cobblemane then re-entered into the room holding a bowl in his right hoof.
"Here's your dinner you bitch." Cobblemane snorted as he spat into the gruel which he then presented to Daze, and proceeded to leave. "One more thing. Lily does not know about you're new roommate yet, and I wont tell her... But just know you're going to suffer for keeping her and getting one of my men killed. Mark my words, if you think things have been tough, you have not begun to see the half of it yet." And with that he slammed the door shut. Daze just laid there and curled up into a fetal position, not crying, and not moaning... Just lying there in silence. An hour passed before she moved, lifting herself up from the floor and making her way over to me, stumbling a few times in the process.
"I'm sorry you had to hear that Derpy." Daze said. I withheld any reaction; she didn't need to know that I also saw the whole ordeal. "Well it looks like we're not going to having dinner tonight hun. Don't worry I'll go back into the forest tomorrow and grab you something to eat, since I'm almost certain Cobblemane is going to be cutting our meals in half." She kicked the bowl a little splashing some of the gruel onto the floor. "Why don't we just go onto bed? I know today's been a lot for you, and I'm sure you have tons of things that you want explained... But after tonight, well... I'm not in a very talkative mood. Besides I'm almost certain that it's past your bed time." And with that she lifted me up out of the closet and gently placed me onto her bed.
"I don't know when Sandy will be back. It's best to leave her be for now so I can't have you sleep in her bunk tonight. And since we don't have another one, it looks like you're gonna be bunking with me tonight. Are you okay with that Derpy?" I nodded in response. She was right, I did have tons of things I wanted to know but It was late, and she could explain everything in the morning. She climbed up into the bed and cuddled up against me. She then pulled the covers over us and clicked the lights off. She spoke one last sentence before I fell asleep. "Goodnight Derpy... I'll make sure nothing like that ever happens to you." And with that she gave me a kiss on my forehead and laid her head back down for the night.
Make sure *what** never happens to me?*
