Ending 2 I love you Spike (Part 3: The Real Ending part 2)

Previous Chapter

Rarity and Twilight started making their way back home.

“Can you believe it has already been a year Twilight?”

“No I can’t. I miss Spike I wish he was still around, that smile he always wore around his friends. He always brought out the best out of everypony he loved.”

“I miss him to Twilight. I’ll never forget that faithful day he almost… did that action. After I saved him, we were impossible to separate. I knew at that moment that I was in love with him and that I wanted to live with him for the rest of my life. After thinking about what life would be like without Spike… I couldn’t let him go. Now he’s dead and this time I wasn’t there to save him. It’s all my fault Twilight, I should have gone with him, I could have made sure he was safe, he could have been alive today…”

“It’s not your fault Rarity… It’s mine. I could have saved him with my spell, but I failed… Failed! I never forgave myself for that. If it wasn’t for my failure Spike would still be in our lives.”

“It is not your fault Twilight, you did everything you could. You even said yourself on that day that dragon anatomy was different from ours. You did everything you could and that’s the most anyone can ask for. Twilight you are not a failure, so don’t ever say that again.”

“Thanks Rarity.”

“I’m here for you Twilight.” Rarity gave Twilight a friendly hug, Twilight, returned the hug. They both shed tears in memory of Spike.

“I better get home Twilight, I need to get some rest for tomorrow, orders will be coming in.”

“Bye Rarity, and thanks.”

“Anytime Twilight, and always feel free to come over if ever you need cheering up.”

“I will keep that in mind Rarity.”

Twilight walked off to the house her parents used to live in. Rarity on the other hand walked back to her house in Canterlot. That house always brought back memories of Spike. He helped build the house. That was his wedding gift to Rarity, and she would never forget the day he brought her here and said, “Welcome home Rarity.”. Rarity entered her home. The house was still as sturdy as it was the day they moved in. It had not aged at all in Rarity’s mind, it was still her and Spike’s house, the house they spent their last moment together before that faithful accident. Rarity walked into the bedroom. Whenever she thought of Spike, she would come to their bedroom and sit on the bed. She would smell the sheets, since they still carried his scent. She never touched any other object in the room, she wanted to keep it, as it was the last time he moved or touched anything, she couldn’t touch any of his belongings, it was too soon. She would eventually fall asleep, dazed in Spike’s scent.

Meanwhile, Twilight arrived at her house. It was the house she raised Spike in. Every day old memories of Spike and her would invade her mind.

*The first day she brought him home*

“Yes yes yes yes yes yes! I passed my test!” Twilight said the most excited she’d ever been.

“That’s great dear, but now you have the biggest responsibility in your life, taking care of and raising a dragon. Of course your dad and I will always be here to help you.”

“I can do it myself mom! I’m sure there are books on how to raise dragons!”

“Alright dearie, just know we are here for you.”

“Alright mom.” Twilight’s mom and dad hugged her.

“We are so proud of you honey, even though you turned us into plants.” Twilight’s dad said lightly chuckling.

“Very funny dad, you know it was an accident, I had no idea my magic could be that powerful.”

“Don’t worry about it honey, the important thing is that you turned us back to unicorns.”

“I am going to show my ‘brother’ his room!”

“Alright honey, have fun!”

Twilight tried using her magic to levitate the dragon into her room, but her magic was mostly drained due to the sudden outburst that happened only a little while ago. She had to carry him on her back to her room. The dragon on the other hand was making noises that Twilight found adorable. She arrived at her room. The room seemed so small due to all the books lying around and all the bookshelves. There must have been at least one hundred books. To Twilight though, every single one was necessary.

“Well…  I still need to name you. Hmmmmm... I know! You have beautiful spikes on your back and tail… I’ll name you Spike. Spike the Dragon! Well Spike this is my room and now your room as well. I will teach you how to speak, how to read and how to write! It’ll be so much fun! And I’ll show the Princess how great of a student I am!”

Twilight was now in her old bedroom, the same room she raised him as a filly. The burn mark was still there on the wall from the first day Spike learned how to breath fire. That day she came back from school, only to see her new bookshelf that was going to hold her new books; was burned to ashes. Horrified, she turned her head towards Spike. He shot another fireball towards that spot, hitting the wall. Twilight quickly used a water spell to put out the fire.

“Mom! I need you to come here, IMMEDIATELY!”

Twilight could hear hoof steps dashing up the stairs and into her room.

“What’s wrong d… Oh I see the problem.”

Twilight’s mom cast a spell to fireproof the room.

“That should do it Twilight, as for your bookshelf, we’ll simply have to buy another one. Luckily your books are fine. If you want, I can put them in our room until Spike has gone through this phase.”

“That’s alright mom, I need my books to help him through this and besides, you know you’ll never be able to sleep with me going into your room at night looking for a certain book!”

“Aren’t you supposed to be asleep at night?”

“I mean… Oh darn, I fell right into that one.”

“Don’t worry about it deerie, just make sure you sleep long enough. That doesn’t mean you can read until two in the morning.”

“I usually go to sleep by one am.” Twilight said, lying to her mom.

“Those were the good days.” Twilight said out loud.

She was sitting on the bed now. It wasn’t the bed she had slept on in her filly years. It was a newer bed, but to Twilight it would still give her memories of Spike and her. That room would always be special to her. Twilight was getting tired; she decided to go to bed early that day. Memories of Spike and her continued to flow through her thoughts before she finally fell asleep.

*20 years later*

One day left. Twilight and Rarity had only one day left. They were in the hospital, dying of old age. Twilight’s heart was beating at a slower pace every hour; it was now close to stopping. Rarity’s lungs were having trouble breathing. Every breath was smaller and smaller as time went by. A familiar voice could be heard.

“Twilight, Rarity how are you two feeling?” Sweetie Belle asked, not wanting to hear the bad news.

“Our time is almost up Sweetie.” Rarity said with a weak voice.

“No… NO! I won’t allow it! I can’t lose my big sister. I bet I can find a spell to cure the both of you…”

“I’m sorry Sweetie Belle, there is nothing you can do. The doctors tried everything, even magic. Even I couldn’t cure us with my magic when I had more energy.” Twilight said, coughing a small amount of blood.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do without my big sister.”

“Try to take your mind off of the negative. How has your life been going Sweetie?”

“It has been going great. I just signed a contract for a new record, and I also found out I am pregnant. The doctors say it’s a unicorn, female. I’ve already decided what I am going to name it.”

“What are you going to name it?”

“I am going to name her Rarity, after her grandma, the best grandma that existed!”

“I am honored Sweetie.”

The nurse had walked into the room.

“Visiting hours are over, I’m afraid you’re going to have to leave.”

“I’m sorry but I’m not leaving, my sister has hardly any time left before the inevitable and I want to be here for her last moment. Please, this is very important to me.” Sweetie Belle said, tears forming around her eyes.

“I’m sorry but visiting hours are over…”

“Please let Sweetie stay, Twilight and I would love her company until the inevitable happens. She is the only close family I have.”

“Alright, but keep the noise level down, the other patients need their sleep.”

The nurse closed the door and left them in peace. Sweetie Belle walked up next to Twilight. Twilight held out her hoof giving Sweetie the hint to hold her hoof.

song

“Twilight I wanted to thank you for all the times you helped me and the Cutie Mark Crusaders with our plans to get our Cutie Marks and for helping me learn how to use magic. You were a great friend Twilight.”

“Thank you Sweetie. I’ll miss seeing your filly, but I wish you the best of luck with the rest of your life. I’ll always be with you through the magic of friendship, whenever you need a friend.” Twilight said slowly in a soft voice.

Sweetie Belle walked over next to Rarity. This time Sweetie hugged Rarity, being careful to not hurt her.

“Big sis, I wanted to thank you for everything you’ve done for me. You helped raise me, you helped me whenever I needed help and you helped me learn magic as well. We may have almost never agreed on anything, but I always loved you anyway. I don’t want to say goodbye, I want to be able to bring you home tonight and say everything is alright. But as we both know that won’t happen.” Sweetie Belle could no longer hold back her tears.

“Sweetie, my time may be almost over, but I want you to promise me to live your life to the fullest. I’ll always be there in your heart Sweetie, there to help guide you and help you through the hard times. I wish you luck with the new filly. And always know your big sis loves you no matter what.” Rarity’s breathing was getting worse. It was almost time, Sweetie Belle just stayed beside Rarity’s bed, holding her hoof. She wanted to be beside her sister as long as possible. A few hours had passed by, Rarity and Twilight had passed away.  Sweetie Belle was crying the hardest she has ever cried. When she finished she informed the nurse and left for home.

Rarity and Twilight woke up to the sight of… Ponyville.

“Where are we?” Rarity asked.

“You are in the afterlife.”

“Spike!?”

Both Rarity and Twilight ran up to him and hugged him as hard as possible.

“SPIKE WE MISSED YOU SO MUCH!” Rarity said, giving Spike a passionate kiss on the lips.

“I missed you guys too! I was waiting for the day we would be reunited again.”

“I’m glad to have my brother back. I missed you so much Spike. Everyday I would come home, memories of you and me would flood my mind. I always looked forward to those memories, they always reminded me that you we are always connected through the magic of friendship.”

“I too Spike use to love going home. For the first year, I kept the room exactly as you left it. I couldn’t change anything I missed having you around so much. I would fall asleep to your smell from the bed sheets every night for that first year. I wanted you back in my life.”

“Well now we will have each other forever. Let us go home.”
