Ballad of Serenity
Waking up at dawn

The sun rose on another day. Its rays slowly being filtered through the trees.
a slight breeze in the air could be felt. the sunlight slowly made its way to my eyes as the sun gently awoke from its own slumber. there was an odd sense of serenity and peace in the air. almost as if the events of last night never happened.
but of course, the evidence was there, plain to see on the dusty bloodied ground.
I finally opened my eyes to greet the new day. hearing a quiet yawn as the Pony inside the tent too awoke.
Taking out a small pack of rations and a pot, I began breakfast. "You alright in there?" I asked, my voice a little hoarse from the lack of fluids. I heard a slightly muffled sound of acknowledgement. I then heard a fumbling sound, as if somepony was struggling with a zip. "Could you... unzip me?" I finally heard the voice, it had a slight rasp to it. I gave a slight chuckle.
"Of course, i'll be right there" As I took a step inside, I was blessed with a vision of....well...
she was stuck in a sleeping bag, her white tanktop must have gotten caught in the zip. "Just hold still" I grabbed the zip and simply gave it a good hard tug. within seconds the zip was undone and I finally met the poor mare. "so What's your name then?" I asked as I held out a lonely hand, she looked at me, wary of the gesture.
"Scootaloo" Within minutes of this small revelation, we were sat around the ashes of the fire.
"How's the food?" I asked, clearly seeing the look of distaste on the Orange mare's face. She shot me a slightly disgusted look.
I chuckled for a moment or two. "so, what are you doing all the way out here?" She suddenly looked a little upset.
Then with a few brief seconds, she spoke. "I.... I ran... I just ran away, okay?" she then took another tentative mouthful of the slop that i could barely call food. "I can't help if you don't let me" I surmised. I had already finished eating, and simply used a small cleaning spell on everything used. I heard the deep sigh emanating from behind me.
"Why do you want to help?" she asked, her head hung low. "in fact who the hay are you?"
I then shot her a glance. I pulled my tail out of my coat. "on my travels, I gained the name yellow tale, that name should do for now" I stated calmly. she watched as i picked up the small book and placed it gently into my inner jacket pocket.
"So why did you run away?" I asked, she began to look ever so slightly nervous as she pulled out a small necklace.
I instantly recognized it. "oh, please tell me she's not..." my heart sank. Scootaloo's eyes widened.
"You knew Rainbow Dash?" I nodded. I pulled out the small book and shown her the front page, it was signed not just by Rainbow Dash, but the other elements aswell. "well, Relax, she's touring with the Wonderbolts" I soon did just as she said.
"thats good, hell thats great!" I smiled. I began to pack the tent up, using my hands.
"Dude, You have a horn" I simply nodded.
"I know, but I'd rather not rely on magic too much" I chuckled.
Within minutes, the tent and the tools were packed away. "so why did you run anyways? you didn't steal it, I hope?"
she shook her head. "ah... then what?" She looked at me for another brief moment as if she was studying me.
"I don't deserve it" I blinked. then looked at her.
I looked at the necklace, sure enough the red crystal hung there, embedded on a bed of gold.
"what makes you say that?"
she looked me in the eyes and then walked towards Ponyville. I simply collected my things and followed.
soon voices were heard. each calling her name. "I didn't want this, I was happy enough living in Rainbow's shadow," she sighed. "all my life, All i wanted was to fly, ya know?" I nodded as i caught up with her.
"but in the end, the doctors and the experts said i would have difficulty staying airborne" I stopped in my tracks.
she turned to look at me. "why am i even telling you this, I haven't even told my friends this"
"because... in all honesty, i haven't a clue" she looked at me for a moment.
I then placed a hand on her shoulder. "but what i do know is this, Dilly dally shilly shally"
a look of confusion spread across her face. "what?"
"so you can't fly that well, I'm crap with basic magic" she looked at me for a moment.
"really?" she asked.
"yep, the cleaning spell cleans stuff on a molecular level, and my levitation spell? yeah... I just cast that on myself and it allows me to fly..." I slow down for a moment. I look to the young mare for a moment, her eyes lighting up with an idea.
"the point is, we move on, we adapt, you can still use your wings cant you?"
she nods. I simply smile. "theres my point, and as for the element thing... well...."
I scratched the base of my horn for a brief moment. it became a bad habit.
as we continued walking, she spotted her friends still screaming her name. "Sweetie Belle Over here!" Scootaloo shouted.
I watched as she was reunited with her friends. I carried on walking.
Finally after several months of travelling...
I had made it to Ponyville, I walked straight to the post office.
"Excuse me? I need this letter to be delivered Post haste!"
the stallion behind the counter looked at me, bewildered.
"How the Buck did you know my name?"
I shrugged. "Coincidence, anyway, it needs to be delivered to Celestia..." the stallion directed me to the library.
I slapped my self on the forehead. "I forgot about that" I chuckled nervously.
