Birth of a Duo
I came from Canterlot, I had never really liked it there, and it wasn’t quite my cup of tea. I had never bothered making friends I always stayed away from other ponies and wrote stories on whatever I could come up with.
I had decided that I shall leave Canterlot and go somewhere else. No need staying in a place where none of your stories receive any credit even after getting published. I took with me all the supplies that I needed, leaving behind nothing of importance. I got a ticket for the train from Canterlot to Ponyville.
“Though it may not be too far it should be far different.” I said to myself followed by a sigh. I walked onto the train, and whilst going to my seat I accidentally bumped into another pony. Falling back, some of my papers fell out of my bag, I picked myself up off the ground “I am so sorry.” I sputtered about. She was a unicorn; Grey with a red mane. Her tail was also red, with streaks of teal. I looked around for the papers that fell out and at that moment i had realized she had already picked them up with her magic and started reading them.
“So, you’re a writer?” Her voice sounded very beautiful, nice and soft. I was startled by the sheer beauty of her voice.
“Yeah I- I am, or at least I really want to be one. But for now I’m stuck writing my own stories that no pony would pay one bit for.” I had said blandly.
“Would you mind if I read this one?” she said with joy in her voice and a smile on her face.
“Uh no- no not at all. My name is Night Writer, and wha...what would yours be?”
“I’m Alice.” She turned away shyly, continuing to smile even though we were meeting each other for the first time. It was certainly amazing knowing that somepony could hold a smile that long.
“So, since you’re going to Ponyville as well why not sit with me?” I had never met a pony who had been so happy even when they just met somepony they didn't know. Everything was always just a rush down in Canterlot, they would rarely stop to talk to you, especially if you were an earth pony; like I.
“Um, sure why not.” I said as I followed her to her seat. I sat across from her. “So why are you leaving Canterlot Alice?” I asked this out of much curiosity.
“Well, Night Writer I tend to take care of plants, I had originally been helping out in the royal garden. But it seems my services are no longer needed there so I decided why not leave.” Her smile had finally faded. I guess not everypony can keep a smile up forever.
“Well I assume we’ll be on this train for a while so since you wanted to read my story so bad I will let you.” I told her blandly. Quietly she lifted the papers up using her magic flipping the page every so often. After quite some time we had arrived in Ponyville. We both got off the train, Alice still quiet with the story in front of her face. “Look you don’t need to finish it right now; you can take your time Alice, I am in no rush, besides... that story was rejected.” I said emotionless looking at her.
“It’s not that I want to finish it now, it’s just that I’m shocked your stories aren’t more popular, and now I’m shocked at the fact they rejected this story.” She said memorizing her page and putting it into her own bag.
“I’ll bring this back to you when I’m done, but you really should write more often, and especially if it’s anything like this.”
“Alright then I’ll listen to your suggestion. Oh right one more thing you have place to stay right?”
“Yeah I do why?” She asked this very uncertain of why I would even bring it up.
“Well. It’s just that I got caught up in leaving as quickly as I could that I didn’t look for a place to stay, And I was hoping that maybe since we became friends on the way here and that we both want to just go around equestrian that--” Alice had cut me off.
“-That you need a place to stay? No problem, one of my old friends said I could use her house since she owes me, and besides there’s more than one room and she doesn’t come here often anyway. Just follow me, it’s near the library.” Alice said as she started walking off. I sighed and followed her to the building. “Well Night Writer here’s a new beginning. For both of us.”
