Chapters Of spellcasters and street rats
Twilight Sparkle: Young, bright, ambitious, purple. All traits that could accurately describe the unicorn mare who was even now retreated within her own mind, studying facts she'd long since memorized. The magical mare was sitting in the cute carousel that served host to the boutique of her friend the couturière. Across her sat the owner of the shop, Rarity, a slightly older and no less talented pony than Twilight. The two friends had sat to tea but minutes past and were enjoying the company of a fellow.
Rarity sipped delicately at her tiny teacup as she pretended to listen to Twilight explain her latest theories, some silly quest for something she'd called "Extradimensional teleportation". Honestly Rarity could not be bothered to attempt to wrap her mind around the concept. As a fellow unicorn she of course had the ability to grasp the directions of magical leylines or few the contextual runes of an incantation in her mind, but while she was herself rather talented with her magic, compared to Twilight all but the Princesses themselves were likely to be considered quite inept.
"And if it all goes well than by tonight I'll be able to view alternate universes and see what the results of other actions in any given scenario could be!"
"My my Twilight that's simply Fascinating ! Why I could hardly tear myself away from this little presentation but it is time for me to start running some errands..."
"Oh of course! Sorry I'll be going, it was so nice having tea with you, we'll have to do it again sometime!"
Twilight quickly finished off her tea and trotted to the door with Rarity's accompaniment. She gave a quick wave as she turned out the door and grinned to herself, thinking over her theories again and again until she reached the front door of the library which sufficed as her homestead.
"Spike I'm back!"
"Hey Twi! How's Rarity, did she say anything about me?"
Twilight simply rolled her eyes and patted Spike on the head as she passed him, and began to levitate several books in front of her. The little dragon sighed and picked up a quill and parchment, and began writing down everything his adoptive family chanted off.
The hours passed slowly and the longest parchments in the library became coated in ink. Twilight had long ago closed the books and recited from memory the text and what she had discovered herself. With a smile on her face she closed opened her eyes and looked down at the bored and tired reptile.
"Thank you Spike, I'm sure that will suffice as a fine report to Princess Celestia. Could you go upstairs and send that while I begin the spell?"
"Upstairs? You mean you don't want me down here while you cast it?"
"No Spike, you might be a dragon and magic resistant but this is a really difficult spell, if something goes wrong you could get hurt here. I want you to stay upstairs where it's safer and come down after I've cast it to check if I'm alright, okay?"
"...I don't like it Twi...but I guess I'll do it. Be careful though."
Twilight smiled at the child's care for her and watched his tail bounce as he hopped up the stairs. When she was satisfied with his being out of range, she began her focus. The magic coursed through her body and into her little velvety horn, light emanated from her entire being and her eyes glowed with ethereal light as her body lifted into the air.

Dash you are a serious genius!
Rainbow Dash soared through the skies, flying almost directly at the ground with her wings outstretched. The familiar cone of resistance formed around her as she grinned through flapping gums.
All I have to do is hit Sonic Rainboom level speed and get back up into the air, then turn and go back down, and I can break TWICE the sound barrier!
As the cone narrowed around her and Dash prepared to double her speed she neared the library. With a sound like the crack of a giant whip, and a ring of prismatic light, Rainbow Dash demolished the sound barrier! And crashed.

Inside the tree house the concentration of the magical mare was instantly broken at the shock of the sudden thunderclap. With a yelp, she was instantly gone.
Spike ran downstairs wearing a pot on his head and having two pillows strapped around his tiny chest, he looked around the library for any sign of his close friend. Nothing. His little mouth opened and closed, and tears began to well in his eyes. Quick as he could the small dragon wrote off a note and sent it away to the goddess he hoped could help.

"Get back here filth!"
"Why you'd just beat me!"
A young man ran through a crowded street, dodging the people and hopping over trashcans and fences. In his arms he cradled a roast duck and behind him an angry older man chased him with a butchers knife. The younger man turned down an alley, followed closely by his chase. The alley only went through a short distance before a tall wooden fence ended it, with only piles of garbage and locked doors to fill the space.
"I've got you now thief!"
The young man was tall and somewhat muscular, with lightly tanned skin and waist length jet black hair. His gray eyes twinkled and he threw the roast duck into his mouth with a smile. He turned and jumped at the wall, kicking off it and grabbing the ladder of a fire escape. He turned from his perch and swung, grabbing the edge of the wooden fence and disappearing of the edge.
The old butcher growled and kicked a broken box on the ground before he turn and left muttering.
"God damn ninja thieves..."

On the other side of the alley the thief sat on a dumpster and happily tore into his stolen meal. His eyes scanned the world constantly as he ate, lest any should steal his duck from him. Finished with the honeyed poultry, the thief sat back and played with the edges of his cotton gloves and licked his lips.
It was then that he noticed the slender fingers of a female poking out of the trash. Curious, he strode over and touched the girls hand.
"Warm...you're alive!"
Quickly he threw away the bags of trash and flicked the rice and noodles and that covered her.
"You're....naked!"
A young girl slept in the garbage, neither tall nor short, and somewhat plump. The thief hesitated for a second, but pulled off his shirt and pants and put them on the girl. He blushed furiously trying to keep contact to a minimal...but couldn't resist a few small glances. She was young, with pale white skin and somewhat long purple hair, with a violet streak in it. She smiled lightly in her sleep and kept her arms outstretched over her head. A tiny blush covered her face as her stomach made little hungry noises.
"Aw hell...what am I supposed to do with this? I could take care of her but what if she thinks I kidnapped her or what if she calls police...I can't just leave her she could get actually abducted or something...shit, why do women always make things difficult..."
He looked down at the girl and smiled as she whimpered and turned over. Grabbing a dirty sheet he covered her and ran a hand through his long hair.
"Damn you don't have to weaponize cuteness...Fine. I'll take care of you girl, promise."
*A/N I don't know a damn thing about Eastern culture outside what I've learned from 80's kung fu movies. Do not expect this to be accurate, do not get high hopes for this, do not yell at me please. Furthermore I don't intend to make this actually in Tokyo, it's just the name of the fic. Remember, I hate you- enjoy this story*
Twilight Sparkle slowly opened her eyes, slightly stretching her muscles and yawning. She sat up and ran a hand through her hair to brush it out from in front of her shining violet eyes and smiled.
The smile immediately disappeared as she quickly brought the hand back in front of her face and stared at it intensely. She frowned at her appendages as she looked them over.
"I'm a monkey."
"I'm Ko, and you're too cute to be a monkey."
Twilight yelped and tried to leap back but fell over her unaccustomed limbs. She crawled backwards against a wall and stared at the source of the voice.
A young man sat against the wall opposite her, wearing only a pair of pale blue boxer shorts and cotton gloves. He winked at her and stood up, causing her to flinch and jerk her head towards him as though she were trying to headbutt him from afar. For some reason, she panicked when he was unaffected, and began whimpering and cowering.
"I'm not going to hurt you miss!"
Ko stepped back and put his hands behind his head, sitting back down and smiling.
"See, I'm harmless. I promise I won't hurt you."
"Promise?"
"Promise. My name is Ko, what's yours?"
Twilight hesitated for a moment, looking over the boy before she answered.
"Twilight Sparkle."
Ko stood up slowly and sat next to Twilight. He smiled nervously to her and offered a hand, Twilight looked at it confusedly until Ko put her hand in his and slowly shook it. Twilight took a few moments, but returned the gesture and the smile.
"If you..if you don't mind me asking Twilight...What happened to you?"
"I'm not sure honestly. One second I'm about to preform an interstellular transportation spell, the next I'm waking up in Celestia knows where with a talking monkey- no offense."
Ko smiled and nodded, hoping she was only joking. Twilight continued looking over her body, poking at parts she thought odd. Ko closed his eyes and tried to think.
Alright so, crazy girl in an alley, thinks she a wizard from another dimension, not used to human bodies. How fun this will be...Wait, what's she doing?
Ko turned to see Twilight fondling her own chest, a small blush crossing her face as she gently massaged her breasts. A soft moan crossed her lips and she closed her eyes from the unexpected pleasure she found in exploring her body. Twilight had almost all but forgotten Ko was there until she felt his hands grab both her wrists and pull her away from herself. She looked at him, not understanding why he would stop her. His face was almost entirely crimson.
"D-Don't do...that.."
"What are these?"
Twilight lifted up her shirt and pointed to one of her small breasts as though to emphasize her curiosity. Ko quickly moved his hands in front of his eyes, peaking out of the fingers as he did.
"P-put them away Twi! It's indecent!"
"What?"
"You can't just go touching yourself it's...it's bad. Do that at night, alone."
Twilight cocked her head to the side for a moment and gasped.
"Little ponies who touch themselves at night make Luna cry!"
Ko sighed and buried his face in his hands.

Princess Celestia stood several feet taller than Spike and was unintentionally imposing. Though a regal beauty and usually the epitome of benevolence, when cross the royal alicorn was no less fearsome than a pack of hydras. She stood with horribly uncharacteristic frown on her face, staring down at the crying baby dragon.
"Where is she Spike."
Her voice was emotionless, her question more of a demand for knowledge.
"She just disappeared!"
"What was she doing Spike."
"I...I don't know your highness...She kept saying a lot of big words I couldn't understand- some kind of a teleportation..."
Celestia looked down and sighed, laying on her side and hugging the dragon with a wing. She nuzzled him affectionately and let him cry into her chest.
"We'll find her Spike, don't you worry."

"Alright so you're from a magical land of talking pastel ponies led by two nearly omnipotent immortal goddess horses, you yourself are a purple unicorn and holder of a super important mystic artifact along with five other magic talking ponies, and your brother is a teeny baby dragon?"
"Correct."
"....."
"...."
"Against all common sense and proper judgement I believe you."
The two had left the alley with little words when the sun began to rise and, after stopping to get new clothes, Ko brought Twilight to a small restaurant where they now sat across from each other and away from others. Twilight was currently caught between trying to explain Equestria and trying to eat a few days worth of fried peppers and mushrooms.
"You...Really?"
"Yeah, I mean stranger things could happen....right?"
A moment of silence passed between them as Twilight stopped eating and simply stared at Ko with a green pepper hanging out of her mouth. She gave the young man a look he found very womanly and made him feel slightly stupid. Ko gave a nervous laugh and ran a hand through his long black hair.
"Heh...Yeah, guess not. Anything can sound silly when you say it like that though. I mean I'm a talking hairless ape in a world where magic doesn't exist and instead we run and fly in giant metal cartridges."
"I never thought of it like that Ko, do you think there are other worlds even sillier?"
"I hope so, I'd rather not be the weirdest thing in existence. Tell me more about Equestria, it sounds fascinating."
The purple eyed girl smiled and began telling stories about her adventures with her friends, of Celestia and Luna, Nightmare Moon, Discord, Chrysalis, Sombra. Ko raveled himself in her stories, smiling and silently applauding the parts he liked.
When Twilight finished both her stories and her meal, Ko stood and quickly walked out of the restaurant and down the street having the girl follow him. The two sat on a bench by a small riverbed and Ko invited Twilight to ask questions about Earth.
"Well, Earth has a lot of countries each governed primarily by their own selves, we're in Japan, which is the easternmost country of the world. We have an emperor but, he's basically just a symbol of state and has no power. The real government is a legislature called a Diet that has 480 representatives and 242 councilors, and also an executive and judiciary branch. There is a caste system still but it isn't recognized much or really at all, the only real acknowledgement now is who can openly carry swords. You said your currency system was something called bits but most trade and service is bartered with other trade and service since your people have singular natural talents you excel at more than others and usually take that as a career path. Us humans don't have something like that, we fight each other using knowledge and skill to find a position in life, the winners get more money for often less work, while the absolute loser gets nothing and ends up as a thief or dead living homeless, or something like that generally."
"That's horrible! Doesn't anybody do anything to help them?"
"Well there are countless organizations that take charity donations and split the fund between themselves and those who need it, the government makes some structures that will house some or feed some, and the common people sometimes give change or food scraps. I feel the most assistance comes from religious groups, primarily the Christian influences, they allow anyone who comes to live on their grounds so long as they work for their keep, they help people find jobs too and offer food and basic medical services."
"Okay...what's religion and Christian?"
Ko waved and sighed.
"No Twilight that would take too long to explain and nobody can do it well enough anyway. You've met gods in your world- the princesses, you know as well as can be known of your origin. Ponies it seems have no need for religion, and it's just a dangerous game to play in any way. Wars and slaughters are started in the name of religion, and countless people die."
Twilight was silent for a long time staring into the water before she turned to Ko. She stared at him for even longer, taking in the sight of her new friend. He was much taller than the other humans, and judging by the items familiar to her in this world he would have been six foot tall. His hair was darker than Luna's night, reaching beyond his waist with a few locks that fell in front of his stone gray eyes. His skin was lighter than Twilight's. While her skin looked practically porcelain, his was tanned, almost a light brown. He wore a strange light blue outfit he called a Kenpo-Gi, something she had seen Rainbow Dash wear before when she tried teaching Applebloom Karate. He looked back into her eyes at first but his face turned slightly pink and he looked away.
"Your world sounds...horrible...but you look so harmless and kind..."
The beginning of our studies
*A/N.....Any ideas for a freaking story line here? Talk to me jerkwads, I can't do anything right on my own.*
Twilight Sparkle stretched her new body and yawned, flexing new muscles and rolling strange joints. She flipped a switch she had seen used the night before and light flooded the room giving her a chance to look around. It was very small, with a single bed she had slept on and a small table that had a tray with two cups of tea and two plates of rice covered in a strange stew. On the other side of the table Ko lay still asleep on the floor, near him was a wooden chest. The walls were covered with long parchments with a few strange symbols on each of them, and at first glance the door looked like just another part of the wall.
Twilight crawled over to Ko, unaccustomed to the numbness in her legs from sleeping in what must have been a strange position for a human. She sat next to him and waited a few minutes, watching him twitch in his sleep. After just a few minutes though Twilight began poking him until he opened one eye and stared at her.
"Oh uhm..Good morning Ko.."
"Yeah whatever... They brought breakfast?"
"Oh! Yes, there's two plates of something and some tea. I wasn't expecting anything, where are we?"
"...The monastery."
"Mono- A church? So you're a priest?"
"No. I grew up here, I left for a few years but I came back and they let me live here in exchange for work."
"So you're..."
"I'm hungry. Let's eat."
Ko put the pillow from the bed on the floor and motioned for Twilight to sit on it, as he sat on the floor across her and picked up a pair of chopsticks and began to eat. Twilight watched him eat before she picked up the second pair of utensils and mimicked his actions. Ko watched as Twilight repeatedly failed at picking up rice and stew until he finished. When she saw that he'd finished his meal before she even ate a single piece, Twilight lost her temper and threw the chopsticks down onto the table where they'd pounced into Ko's open hand. He smiled slightly and moved to sit behind Twilight, putting the chopsticks back in her hand and closing his own over hers. He moved her hand towards the plate and picked up a piece of the stew, bringing it to her mouth for her. The girls face turned red as she bit down on the food and swallowed a few times until Ko stepped away.
"Never used them before have you?"
"In Equestria we have forks and spoons, and I use magic to use utensils. I'm not used to having fingers or needing my body for dexterity!"
"Relax, you're a quick learner, I wasn't even helping you there except from the beginning."

Twilight and Ko sat on a bench together by a river. Ko sat and listened to Twilight as she rambled about magical properties and the 'logic' behind magic. Though he hardly understood anything, he was still able to attempt to help her work through problems with a secondary perspective. Twilight occasionally tried to focus and levitate a flower out of Ko's palm but to no avail. After giving up on using her magic, Twilight asked Ko about magic in his world.
"Well...To humans magic is all but dead, we don't think it really exists anymore except in some areas and that magic isn't anything like what I've heard of yours. In Africa there are tribes that believe in medicine magic which is like potions or herbs and conversing with spirits to influence outcomes but that's all shamanistic trickery. There are cryptozoologists who insist that there are monsters that can shapeshift and stuff but nobody sees them and lives to tell about it if they are real. I know an American wiccan, a girl from across the ocean- her religion is essentially what most people would call witchery."
"Witchery, you make magic sound like it's a bad thing."
"Most ideas of magic in this world are, while there are some ideas of healing or practical use like telekinesis or teleportation, most people think of magic as something used to hurt people, a power that corrupted the user and made them into devilish fiends. Even the kind of magic that sounds like it would be good is more often portrayed as abused and evil- like, bringing back the dead not to give life but to own it. If anyone could teleport they would probably just use that to sneak and steal, same with telekinesis."
"I don't see anything that could help me get back to my world, I was working on a spell to allow me to see into other dimensions to see how the world could change dependent on certain actions- no more would've could've should've, we could know the best action before we take it. Something disrupted my magic and made me lose control, I suppose I accidentally teleported into the multiverse."
"I can pretend to fully understand that."
Twilight rolled her eyes and leaned back looking up. She raised her arm up and clenched her fist, as though trying to grab the sun. Tears started to come to her face.
"I miss my home Ko... My friends, Spike...Celestia... I can't stay here, I don't belong.."
Ko edged next to her and put one arm around her shoulder, and help his finger and thumb out like an L on both hands.
"It looks pretty far away Twi, impossible to reach when we're all the way down here..."
He put his fingers together in a little square, and raised it up so the sun was in the middle.
"But when you look a different way, you can almost just reach out and touch it. I'll find a way Twilight. We'll get you home."

Twilight marveled at the sights around her, the dark Gothic style did nothing to hinder the unbridled happiness the purple eyed girl showed as she gazed across the small bookstore. Everything was black or gray, with dark red symbols etched into the shelves and counters. A black table at the back was occupied by two teenage boys with bright green or blue hair, one in a mohawk, the other fallen in front of his face. They had their heads against the table like they were sleeping but watched Twilight indifferently as she stepped inside. Behind her, Ko leaned against the door frame and sighed. A girl who had more tattoos than she did exposed skin glared at Twilight from behind short black and red hair.
"Hi there!"
Twilight turned to the girl and waved, cheerily greeting her and awaiting response. After a few moments of stare meeting glare Ko tapped Twilight's shoulder and whispered into her ear.
"Twi these people hate everything, especially happy girls. Try to look indifferent, or at least bored."
He half closed his eyes and slouched, slowly turning to the girl and yawning. Her glare instantly disappeared and was replaced with a sigh and a raised magazine. Ko pulled Twilight, who was staring at the clerk with both confusion and shock that any sort of person could exist. He brought her to a couple shelves where nobody was watching them and leaned against the wall.
"Go ahead and look around, take what you think is useful."
"It's okay, I'm done!"
"...What? Already, wasn't there anything that could help you?"
"Oh yeah! I just read the ones that weren't nonsense already. I can read really fast."
"Twilight I'm not going to start on how ridiculously impossible what you just did is. Anything you want to take?"
"Just two- The dimensions of magic , and Mana of our lives "
Ko took the books and yawned again, practically staggering over to the counter and dropping them. The girl looked at them and pressed a couple buttons on the register, a number came up and Ko grumbled as he dropped the money on the counter, took the books, and left with Twilight following him.
"Ko I don't like those people very much..."
"Nobody does, they're the bad side of their kind- depressed rich kids obsessed with Gothic architecture and pseudo-satanism. Don't get me wrong they aren't all bad people, and some of the people in that clique actually know what a smile is, but the ones that advertise that they are in that sub-genre of people are generally just bland jerks. Whatever though- we got the books."
"Great, if I study them I should be able to get an idea of how to do magic in this world!"
"Here's to optimism there love, let's head back to the Monastery."
"How long have you been in this world now Twi?"
Ko sat dangling from a tree branch above Twilight, lazily munching a stalk of grass with his eyes closed as the young unicorn-turned-human lay below with a contemplative look about her.
"One month. I worried that I might be entirely cut off from Equestria, but I keep having these dreams that my friends are trying to save me, and that's reassuring..."
"I won't pretend to be an expert on dreams, but you said that you might not be dreaming and just actually be seeing what's happening in Equestria. I guess I can believe that, not like a dream makes sense anyway."
Twilight Sparkle looked upwards at the boy. Though at first a completely common custom to her, the excessive kindness he'd shown her since they met had truly become something special. As she quickly learned, Earth and Equestria differed greatly, the people were so crude and cruel, there was a great demand for services in return for services as though these humans hadn't ever heard of a favor. More than once had Twilight been led into an alley or dark room by young boys (And even some girls) who's intents were much less truthful than what they'd told her. Twilight looked up and smiled again, remembering how Ko had come rushing in dramatically and stole her away before anybody did....things.
She thought of her own body, which she slowly realized had become marred by her time. A few small scars from accidents and clumsiness with tools of the humans, a couple little burns from when she learned how to non-magically make fires. Out of a moment of home sickness she even snuck away to a parlor Ko told her about, and gotten a replica of her cutie mark tattooed on either side of her hips.
Twilight laughed aloud, Ko's face when he saw them was a humorous mix of anger and blush.
"Why do you ask that Ko?"
"Because...It....Nothing, no reason really just curious. Hey, let's eat."
"You keep looking at those men over there Ko."
"They're just so damn pretty I can't take my eyes off them."
"There's another group of them behind you that are dressed the same, they won't take their eyes away."
"Yeah Twi, four behind me, six behind you, two on the right, fifteen on the left- they're learning I always go left."
"You know them"
Ko shifted uncomfortably in his chair, chewing his bread longer than necessary as Twilight stared at him. his sharp gray eyes slid away from her gaze until she said his name sternly and commanded his attention.
"Ko. Who are they?"
He sighed.
"Bad people, Yakuza they're called- gangsters that run the city, they can do whatever they want and get away with it so they do. Drugs, prostitution, even murder and rape. Yeah the police officially are after them all, but I've seen the deals and bribes, officers are hired straight from Yakuza clans. This is a pretty big gang of them, 'Kings of Darkness' they call themselves, specialize in drug running of mostly heroin and meth. Bad guys, everyone you see in this area wearing a pale yellow armband with that red symbol on it are with them."
"Why are they staring at you like that..."
"We're going to run Twilight, I can't afford to fight them all with you here, it's too dangerous."
"You shouldn't fight them at all!"
"Sometimes Twi, a man must be a gentle fist, so he may have open palms."
"I don't understand.."
"I saw it in a movie once, fight so that you can be peaceful another time."
Before she could say anything Ko stood and left some money on the table. He took Twilight's hand and began to slowly walk left out of the plaza they were eating in. He kept his head down, and watched out of shifty eyes as the gang members began to circle towards the left where he was headed. They started making hand motions and covering their faces with bandanas and putting on sunglasses. A few of the gang split off and formed a circle, closing in on Twilight and Ko.
"Don't try running this time you shit we got you fucking surrounded."
Ko looked to the side and saw one man standing closer than the rest. He was tall, kinda skinny but very muscled for his size, his hair was bright orange and fell to his shoulders. Twilight remembered that wasn't a natural hair color for a human, and that dyeing your hair such colors was considered socially unnacceptable. He had pulled down his bandana, revealing a large scar that covered his right cheek. He grinned and showed braces.
"And ruin the chance to stand in company with one of the Four Dukes of Despair? Minami you insult my manners. This is a bit public for you, a bit brighter than what you're used to also isn't it?"
"Shut the fuck up you little punk we've got your ass coated so why don't you beg us for some fucking mercy already- oh wait, I forgot you don't know who your fucking betters are!"
Minami struck out and punched Ko, Twilight yelped and held on to him as he stood straight again.
"You wanna do this Minami, let's go somewhere private. I'll fight."
"Ooh he'll fight boys! Shut the fuck up shitbreath! I'm taking you down this time, fucking to hell Koga!"
Minami turned and began to walk, he was flanked by his posse until Ko and Twilight were forced to follow him. He walked through the kitchen of the restaurant they were by and out into a small courtyard littered with trash and vagrant yakuza. Quickly a circle was formed around Twilight, Ko, and Minami. Both boys stood facing each other, Minami beginning to circle around. Ko did no turn, though he threw off his shirt and closed his eyes. Twilight circled Ko as well, standing close to him and opposing the orange haired gangster.
The assault came, Twilight stumbling back out of the way as they began to fight. She watched them, seeing the gangster through wild punches and some kicks even. Ko slipped past or blocked all of them, occassionally returning with an open handed slap across the face. Minami increasingly got angry, hearing his own friends laughing as he was slapped. He pulled out a knife, opening the switchblade as he stabbed and swung it at Ko, who still dodged.
Twilight screamed when she saw the knife, calling out to Ko to be careful. He quickly looked back at her, getting stabbed when he did. Minami backed away, a huge crooked grin on his scarred face. Ko groaned and bent over, falling to his knees. Twilight rushed next to him, he threw the knife out of his stomach onto the ground.
"Finish him! And take the girl!"
The gangsters sitting around watching the fight jumped up, grabbing sticks or knives or chains and walked menacingly towards the pair on the ground. "So what are all these drawings? Circles and lines and runes and stuff, what's it mean?"
"These are magical leylines and augmented spheres of power that float through the universe and influence fate and reality. A unicorns magic, or an alicorns, works by altering the shape or consistency of the magical leylines and fixating them into bent points that change the physical world. By studying how the 'circles and lines and runes' look naturally in my world and in your world, and then how they look in my world when I tried to bend time, and then when I tried to teleport, I can attempt to find how the magic in this world would have to look to open a portal from here to Equestria!"

"You're not going to ask about how there's magic in this world, or that I had previously and am now attempting to time travel and teleport?"

Twilight Sparkle sat on the opposite side of the little table in Ko's room as him. All around them the young unicorn turned human had drawn circles and symbols, all connected by an intricate pattern of lines which led to a wide basin of water on the table. "Are you sure this is going to work Twi?"
"I'm not sure Ko, I really hope so..."

"It's so much easier to do magic with a horn...the alicorn that makes up a unicorns horn allows a connection to the leylines, sort of like plugging into an outlet- it charges you."
"But if you don't have a horn, shouldn't you be unable to plug into the magicka?"
"Well sort of, I am still a unicorn, my mind and my heart, so I can understand leylines and magic patterns. A pegasus, or an earth pony can't do that. That's why I could write them down and draw them- but I had to do that because without my horn I can't print them in my mind. All this time I've been drawing the symbols that build up the magic patterns for simply feeling magic, in my world and yours. It's taken...a long time, I started this just after you got stabbed, but I think I have it done."
"So...This spell will bring you home?"
Twilight looked at Ko and looked into the basin with a sad smile.
"Not yet. But if it works, you'll be able to meet my friends."
"What do you need me to do?"
"....Just sit there and wait."
Ko awkwardly looked away and scratched the back of his head, embarrassed as Twilight began to preform her ritual. There was a faint hum in the air as a gentle breeze began to blow, and though Ko stared at the runes he could not see the glow that began to emanate from them. The water gently stirred for a few seconds before it stopped, and Twilight removed her fingers.
She opened her eyes and looked into the pool, smiling at the visage now shining in the clear still water. She tapped the water and watched as the figure in the reflection jumped at a sudden shock, turning around and gazing back at her confused and shocked. She smiled and recited familiar words in a clear confident voice for the first time in too long.
"Spike, take a letter please."
Not even half an hour later a crowd had gathered around the shimmering silver portal which stood in the middle of the library. Spike, Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, Shining Armor, Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, and Twilight's five closest friends were now gazing into the semi-reflective oval of magic that shined with the visage of two oddly hairless beasts.
After a few short questions to determine if it was truly the young apprentice, and extensive questioning about where she had gone, and how, and why she looked as she did, and who the other 'person' in the room was...Twilight had finally gotten a chance to introduce her human friend.
"His name is Ko, he found me in a dark damp place covered in filth, and he protected me, taught me the ways of this world called 'Earth' so that I could survive here. Ko, these are my friends and mentors; Princesses Celestia and Luna, my brother and sister-in-law Shining Armor and Cadence, Spike the Dragon, and the fellow Elements of Harmony- Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy. They are the ones who taught me how to make friends, and practically raised me."
"Yo."
"Ko show some respect! They're royalty!"
Twilight blushed excruciatingly red and lightly smacked the boy who sheepishly grinned and bowed. In turn, each of the prismatic ponies on the other side nodded or greeted the stranger. When they had all met, and the pink one was saddened by the lack of the ability to throw either a party for the safe finding on Twilight, or the meeting of Ko, Princess Celestia stepped forward, a serious expression on her face.
"Twilight. You've lost your horn, but can still cast magic?"
Twilight's smile faded and she gave a nod.
"Yes Princess, the magical fields are different and faded in this world, but present still. I can see them but with difficulty, but given time I could find a way to cast spells, like this communications portal."
"Do you know how our two worlds connect, Twilight?"
"Judging by the geographical consistencies and similar linguistics, I have assumed that this is a parallel dimension in the same timeline, and position as our own world... just a world where a different species rules."
"Ever wise my dear Twilight, to come to such a conclusion in the year you've been gone."
"We've missed you Twi...can..can you come back soon?"
Spike stepped forward and held his tail in both claws. Twilight stared at him, a saddened look on her face. He has grown, at least a few inches, and was beginning to show muscles. He must have been doing a lot of work in my absence, probably had been staying with Applejack on the farm and working with them to earn his stay. She thought. But... He was at the library when the portal opened, and it looks lived in... Has he been caring for it, the entire time, in case I would return?
Ko reached over and wiped a tear off the girls face, taking her hands in his. He turned to the portal again.
"Horses. I have no magic, and in my world I live in poverty, and have many enemies. But to see this girl, and know her troubles... I will protect her, she will remain safe in my care, and I will do everything I can until she returns to you."
As he spoke, the portal shimmered and flickered, and slowly faded away.
The rest of the day, and into the night, Twilight cried into Ko's chest.
Twilight lay her head down, the shutters of the room sliding closed and allowing darkness to be acknowledged. Ko turned and looked at her, waiting until his eyes adjusted and he could see her clearly in the dim. She was laying bare, exposed to the world save for the thin sheet of her blanket as she lay in his bed.
