Unforgettable past
Chapter 1: What just happened?
It was a ”normal” day in the Everfree forest. You could always hear the owls in the daylight, and how the cold wind played music in the treetops. You could hear the wildlife start running as you entered the many paths of the forest. You could even hear the snores of the cave monsters, or whatever lived inside the caves. Normal ponies would normally stay out of the forest for many reasons, mostly by the fear that an Ursa Minor would appear, or even worse. But it was a different thing if you lived in the forest already, just like Zecora. She knew the forest quite well already, as she had lived there for a while and knew most tricks to stay safe while wandering in the dangerous forest.
Zecora was on a walk to gather some new interesting herbs she had discovered some days ago while taking her daily walk. It was her job to find and discover all the functions of the new and interesting herbs she had found. As she was trying to find and gather the herbs, she noticed some weird wind strokes time by time. It was like Rainbow Dash felt for a one-man race around the forest. But Zecora couldn't see any pony in the sky because it was so dark. That made Zecora realize that she had to hurry home before it got too late, bad things could happen after midnight in the this forest. So she started to run home to her little hut and tried to ignore the possible dangers that could happen.
As she entered her hut she let out a weak sigh. She looked around in her hut. It was still in a complete mess after the many times she had thought “ I will do it later”. There were lots of books lying scattered around on the floor in a total mess, almost all of her potions, brews, flasks and ingredients were placed on the wrong shelves and some of them were even lying on the floor, even her many masks were on the floor. She didn't even know why. She just ignored the mess (again) for the moment so she could get started with the new and exciting herbs she just had picked up. After a couple of hours of experimenting and writing about the herbs she was almost done with her first test brew. She just needed to drop a few more drops of the last ingredient. But just as she was about to carefully drop the those last drops. She was interrupted by something she couldn't even explain herself.
Everything happened so fast. She didn't even know what happened, not even afterwards. All that she could understand was that she heard a big explosion, just like when you break the sound barrier, like Rainbow does before she makes a Sonic Rainboom. But she realized that this wasn't a Sonic Rainboom at all. Because almost directly after she heard the explosion everything turned dark, pitch-black. And almost directly after that, an enormous wind struck her hut and everything around it. She couldn't see it, but she heard how the trees almost got ripped from the ground, and how all of her flasks and potions hit the wall and floor. Even Zecora herself got pushed into the wall by the wind. When she finally got back on her feet she heard a giant crash just outside her door. All of that happened just for some seconds. She had never been this scared in her entire life. The light finally came back after she heard a big crash just outside her door.
She could barely stand up with her shaky hooves. There was also some glass shards stuck on her hooves thanks to all of the flasks crashing to the floor. She carefully tried to go to the door with her shaky hooves, but after some unsuccessful attempts she focused on not falling down. After successfully avoiding all of the shattered glass lying on the floor like a maze, she managed to get to the door. As she opened the door she could see some thin smoke coming up in front of her. She quickly thought it could be a small meteorite or something like that, which would explain the big crash, but nothing else. As she looked down to see what it was, she got a shock - of all of the things that could come crashing so hard it made a small crater it was a pony.
A young stallion pegasus, who was brown by the color. His mane and tail was in a terrible shape, like he had been flying through trees and bushes for hours. But aside from that, the mane and tail had a very unusual color, they were in a unique silver color, and his mane was surprisingly long for a stallion. And as if that wasn't weird enough, his cutiemark was impossible to guess the meaning of. It was a red question mark, nothing more, nothing less. She could clearly see that he wasn't from around here. He must have come from some foreign land, probably from some desert country. But then something very strange caught her eye - his wings was nothing she had ever seen. First, they were in a different shape than a normal pegasus wing. Secondly, they were slightly bigger than normal wings. And last was the color. Every pegasi wings she had seen so far was the same color as the ponys body, but his wings were black. He had a brown colored body but black wings. She knew something was weird about him.
But now he needed her help. He was exhausted, and not just a little. She had never seen a pony as tired as he was. His body was full of scratches from sticks, trees and bushes, she guessed, as he had probably been flying around in the forest. She tried to drag him through her hut that was currently filled with glass shards from all of her broken bottles. Before she could safely drag him to bed she had to clear away most of the glass, luckily, her hut wasn't big. So she just had to clear a little path from the door to the bedroom door. After carefully putting the shards aside she helped him to bedroom. Before leaving him to rest she had to check if he was alright first. Because no one would be alright after crashing that hard into the ground. Surprisingly, there was no sign of anything from the crash on him. He was in almost perfect shape, except the small bruises and scratches.
After examining him for a short while she got back to her cauldron. Then she realized that her house was in an even worse mess than last time. She took a deep sigh and grabbed her broom. Because she didn't “have” time to clean her house, she just put all the glass shards into a corner and wiped up the most of the spilled liquid that used to be potions and brews. Now she could start with her potion, again. Her last one got ruined because of the giant wind push, that knocked it down. But then she realized that she was way too tired to even go get the new ingredients, again. Plus it was way to late for that too. So she just took some blankets and laid them on the floor to sleep on, because her bed was currently occupied at the moment by a completely unknown pony. She was wondering if all this actually happen. Then, she fell asleep.
When she woke up she didn't know what to think anymore. Everything was still in a mess, the glass in the corner, the lousy cleaned floor and the weird stallion in her bed. She didn't think about it very much as she went outside almost directly to get some fresh air. She had to get some new samples of the herbs she took yesterday, because they were used in vain thanks to yesterdays incident. Thankfully, she already knew where they were so it was easy to find and pick them again. As she went back into her hut she didn't know whether to be relieved or disappointed. Everything was still the same. She let out a weak sigh and went to work. The stallion were still sleeping though, but more calmly this time. As she started with her brew she started to notice how the stallion started to struggle in his sleep. Twisting and turning around, not so violent but was enough to see that he was obviously having nightmares. After awhile she were almost finished with the brew. Thanks to her notes from the last time, it took far less time than it normally would. She just needed to add some more leaves, but not too many. But just when she was about to drop the leaves something distracted her - It was the stallion.
He had woken up, and calmly sat up on the bed. It was clear that his vision was not clear yet, as he was trying to focus on objects very near to him. It looked like he hadn't noticed Zecora yet. But thanks to that distraction, Zecora accidentally added too many leaves into the brew. Thanks to that, the brew blew up and made a small explosion. Zecora just stood there with a poker face, her brew had just exploded in her face. She started to laugh at the irony until she saw him. He didn't look as sleepy now as he did just seconds ago, and neither did he look surprised. She could see how his face made an angry expression, and it looked angrier and angrier every second untill he jumped out of the bed. Zecora just stood there, scared by his reaction. Was it something she did? But she couldn't think very much about it since the stallion had already planted his fore-hooves on the floor then quickly turned around and heightened his back-hooves in the air ready for a kick. Zecora didn't have time react and instead got kicked into the wall. While she lay on the floor she saw him running out of her house and then, she passed out.
She later woke up, in her bed. She had a bandage on her head. She went out of her bed to check out the rest of her hut. Her hut was clean. No glass on the floor, in fact the floor was completely clean, all of her flasks were on the right place. Now she was confused, did this really just happen? Did she just get kicked by a complete stranger? The things that confused her the most was her cauldron - or more about what it contained. It was the brew she had tried to make twice, but now it was complete. She just went to her bed again with one simple question..
"Did all that just happen?"
This wasn't the first time some pony would stumble on this unknown stallion. This was only the beginning of an unknown adventure yet to be discovered.
